Salmón Playa Azul w/ mashed potatoes & salad. Margarita flight
    Jasmin G.

I have been coming here since before they had burned down and it might have been a blessing in disguise because the new Playa is beautiful! The bar set up is niiice. Seating feels similar to before, but upgraded. Our waitress (ugh forgot her name unfortunately, i remember her because she had braces & was so cute lol) but sooo sweet! Super attentive and just an angel! My bf ordered the margarita flight which I think he said wasn't on the menu anymore but she said she would get it for him anyway. A doll. He ordered the New York strip mash w/ veggies and of course didn't wanna share I ordered the Salmon mash and salad. Everything was fresh and juicy and so flavorful. The mashed potatoes I could probably have ate just alone, literally perfect. Salmon was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked. We had to yell out to the Chef how amazing everything was 10/10 !

I was craving a fried fish so I came here for lunch. Delicious as usual and wasn't disappointed. The only thing I didn't care for is the rice, it was pretty dry and plain. Everything else was great!

First time trying this place out ~ my family members who live in SF said they have been coming for years . Definitely great authentic Mexican food/ Seafood . Ambiance: A ~ I enjoy that you get a touch of Mexico with the wooden chairs and details on it . Food : A ~ all dishes were delicious and fresh . We were a group of 6 and everything came out together. Next time I visit the area I will be going back to try other dishes !

Came in recently and they had great food!! We had the mixto cocktail which had shrimp and octopus it was fabulous!! Also shared the calamari which had a really nice light batter to it. Entree was carne asada which was perfectly cooked. Waiter could have been a little more attentive but otherwise great experience.

Always fresh the food here is so good. I recommend trying everything on the menu. Vuelve a la vida and mariscada a la parrilla are my favorite. Playa azul nachos is my favorite appetizer.

    Amazing

What an authentic place. A place where you feel like familia. From the regular clientele , to our Bartender Sandra to the owner Don Roberto treated us with love and tequila shots and appetizer. It is a hidden gem in the Mission. A must visit again...

Food was ok.. service was horrible. Waitress would rather talk to her co-workers then actually do her job. You are not missing out on much !

I'd give them about a 3.5 out of 5. On a good day, they come out with that perfect golden-brown finish. On a bad day, they look and taste undercooked to the point where I've had to throw them back on the stove at home just to make them edible. The ambiance doesn't do much to help. It's your typical Mission-style Latin restaurant, kind of sticky and worn-in, but in a way where you can't quite tell if it's part of the aesthetic or just a lack of upkeep. Now, let's get into why this leans closer to a one-star experience. The staff consistently come off like they'd rather be anywhere else. They don't smile and often come across as rude. Timing is basically a suggestion here. If you place a takeout order, plan well ahead, at least 45 to 60 minutes before pickup. Every single time I've called, I've been told 25 to 30 minutes, only to arrive and wait another 15 to 20 minutes. Without fail. And in a neighborhood where parking is already a headache, with limited meters and tight timing, you'll feel that delay. Your patience will absolutely be tested. Don't say I didn't warn you. Update: Today's order included a hit inside the cheese mixture of the Pupusas. Disgusting.

For dessert: churros, flan. It's all delicious and flavorful Drinks: They have a bunch of unique cocktails - one with blue cheese and coconut?? - but they were all great. Definitely try one of these Service: We were pretty slow and had a lot of questions, but our server took it all in stride and was wonderful throughout Price: Dinner + dessert + 1-2 drinks each came to about $80pp after tip Only downside is they don't serve coffee

Smooth clear and easy to drink. Highly recommend Tamarind Twisted Tea (seasonal): yum! Comes in their own house made can, only $12 compared to regular $18 menu cocktails FOOD: Fish and shrimp ceviche: 3.5/5 $18? -The fish wasn't bad, but all I tasted in this dish was lime. Corn nuts were yummy addition but if you gave me fish and shrimp blind I wouldn't be able to tell you which is which -lots of fish protein and a small portion of chips. If you were hoping for a more unique flavor, skip Skirt Steak Carnita Asada: 4/5 $34 -best of the three we ordered -steak was perfectly cooked, tender and great beef flavor came through with some simple salt and queso at the bottom -comes with ~4 blue corn tortillas -queso was very thick and stuck to the cast iron so if you don't like cheese, it's easy to separate Service- simple but they were very busy so little to no attention aside from delivering the food Layout- tables are super close together lol I heard everything the couple next to me said Overall: -not much to complain about but didn't feel love for any dish -bill came out to be almost $200 with tip for 3 dishes and 4 drinks.
