After letting the staff know, they DEMANDED I pay 50cents for a drizzle of honey! After an EMBARRASSING confrontation, I was viciously given honey with a HORRIFIC ATTITUDE! Almost good. That's how I would describe this playa bowls experience. The bowls themselves were great, as well as the service. However, one of the bowls had an "unidentifiable object" in it. Our best guess is a chunk of SPATULA. Yes, SPATULA in my smoothie bowl. Tried to crunch on it like coconut, although it was white like coco it definitely wasn't. Imagine if my child was eating an açaí bowl and he choked on this. Even worse, what if the SPATULA WAS BLENDED!? I've been to multiple Playa Bowls locations as well as the Playa Bowls truck in Jackson and I've got to say, the service at this location is atrocious. I know from previous experiences that the line and wait time tend to get outrageous, so I ordered online ahead of time so that I could beat the line. Within seconds of placing my online order, I got a text saying that my order was received and would be ready 35 minutes later. I got to the store about 40 minutes later and went straight to the pick up counter. My order was nowhere to be found, so I asked one of the girls working if they had it behind the counter. She asked for my confirmation number, then looked around for my order for a few minutes. Finally she comes back and tells me that they didn't get my order (that's great, because they had already charged my bank account for it!) and that they would make it now. I ended up having to wait another 25 minutes. All in all, it would've been faster to just wait in line. Also, given the fact that I had already waited 40 minutes and my order was lost, my order should've been bumped to the front of the line and made immediately, not put behind 8 others. So, given the lack of competency and customer service, I won't be returning. read more

Not sure where all the negative feedback is coming from for customer service- every time I've been treated nicely and served in a timely manner. Usually there is a line out the door but the wait time is no longer than 15 minutes, and it gives you time to look over their extensive menu as there are plenty of playa bowl options. I highly recommend eating 'for-here' because you get significantly more food. There aren't many seating options and it is pretty cramped inside but people are in and out all the time so finding seats shouldn't be an issue. read more

Came here with my family while we at the beach. The concept and presentation in general is really cool. We tried the pink flamingo and Nutella and liked both, but Nutella was definitely the favorite. The bowls are pretty pricey though ($10-12), but assuming that's because the ingredient are fresh. And it takes some time for them to make them, so don't come when you are in a rush! I think it is crazy that people are giving bad reviews just because of the line and the wait. Playa Bowls has become very popular, and everyone at the beach wants to get one. I'd never blame the employees or the store for having to wait in line. YES, this location is more crowded than the other Playa Bowl locations I have visited, but that is because you are at the beach!! If you don't feel like waiting in line, then go somewhere else in the area with no wait! Even with there being a long line, I find that they are fast with taking orders and making the bowls. They are calling names pretty quickly, so I think the workers handle the crowd well. There is also a lot of seating options inside and outside. There are a few tables with umbrellas outside, or there are a lot of seating options inside. I think it is nice to get out of the heat for a while and sit inside, but it would also be nice to bring your bowl onto the beach! I think this location is perfect! So many people want playa bowls at the beach. I have been to this location twice, but go to lots of different playa bowls all of the time. I found that the bowls here are not as full but that is probably so you don't spill them if you walk with it to the beach? Anyway I definitely love it here and will keep coming back! read more

Worst Playa Bowls location EVER. First night at the shore, a MONDAY night, 9pm, I waited 22 mins in line because the girl taking orders is beyond confused. Every one in line was rolling their eyes at how SLOW & sloppy the girl taking orders was. She kept "misunderstanding" & making mistakes. Horrific. She couldn't even count change and was irritating all of the customers in front of me in line. Finally it was my turn at 9:22pm. I was told I could NOT order juice as they closed their juice machines. So I had to order a smoothie. This took FOREVER. Then she had to call the manager over because they couldn't use their blenders for Ginger. SO I had to settle again. They over charged me so much (my one smoothie cost me $18, how I do not know). BUT I was too tired of waiting and just paid. My friends were also irate at how long this was taking. I had to wait an additional 12 minutes on top of the 22 minutes for the actual Smoothie, which by the way, was NOT "smooth" at ALL. It was chunky and bland. I had to CHEW my smoothie as they clearly didn't blend the kale and cucumber enough. They served the cup to me without a lid; they just covered it with saran wrap. This location is packed with apathetic, inarticulate and extremely SLOW staff. The owner should reevaluate and take notice. Clearly it's ALL about location (the beach) and they simply don't care. Nutella acai bowl is sooo good. This place is a nice place to go for breakfast before heading to the beach. Lots of healthy options, with a very large variety of bowls and all different fruit. This was actually my first time trying a bowl from Playa. I've had other açaí bowls from other places. Despite the long line and crowd, my bowl was made quickly! They also have a varied selection of smoothies and juices if you'd prefer to have something to drink. The bonus of this place is that they also had pitaya bowls, chia seed bowls, and oatmeal bowls! Great variety and the fruit was fresh. Yes it can get pretty steep in cost but health is important and what you put in your body is key. Sure fruit has a lot of sugar as a lot of articles will tell you but at least it's natural fruit sugar and these bowls are filled with super fruits, vitamins, and antioxidants necessary for tissue repair and overall cell health. They have combinations to order like the açaí with granola, banana and honey...but they also have make your own which was what we did and loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpful in making decisions. I would highly recommend that you stop by for breakfast or a cool afternoon snack on a hot beach day. Staff at the register are very nice and took our orders quickly and efficiently. I got an Electric Mermaid bowl to go. It came with pineapples, mangos, blueberries, coconut, and granola. The fruit was sweet except the mango pieces seemed a bit unripe. The granola added a nice crunch. When you order, the staff at the register ask for your name like at a Starbucks and call your name when it is ready. However, the store was very noisy(with the sounds of people talking and multiple blenders being used) and that made it very hard to hear the names being called. My guy got the Power Acai bowl and initially balked after I dragged him here when he realized the menu was all fruit and smoothies. He was hungry and wanted "real" food. I told him to be patient and get the power bowl (which has added protein powder) and he was okay with trying it as long as it had peanut butter in it. I ordered the Power Coco. We got our bowls and he dived in without hesitation and loved it. I sampled his and should have ordered that or my initial choice, The Electric Mermaid, instead of the warm coco mush I got instead. His acai bowl had a great consistency and was super cold and refreshing. He was also full before he finished the bowl. Definitely more meal than dessert - another plus on a hot day! I wish there were more places like this everywhere. The choices for bowls and smoothies are pretty infinite and I love the whole concept after I fell in love with it in Hawai'i. This review is mainly for the service I experienced- located in busy Pier Village, Playa Bowls is a hot spot. The music was playing so loud that I couldn't even think when I walked in. Since I had never been before, I needed time to check out the menu... I had to ask the cashier a few questions and she just seemed bothered and annoyed. Once I ordered, she seemed confused as to why I wanted my Acai bowl without apple juice, so I had to tell her that I couldn't have a lot of sugar. Again, she seemed annoyed. I get it. I maybe made the order more complicated. In the end, my bowl was delicious and I would definitely go back. A little pricey, but I think it's worth it for the quality. I had a pretty good experience. It seems overpriced but if you really think about it, they're giving you a lot! Compared to where I work with making pitaya and acai bowls, they're reasonable. They actually give you you're money's worth. The only issue I had was I specifically asked to substitute Nutella with almond butter and I said it three times and the girl asked the other girl who took my order and she said almond butter, yet they put peanut butter on it. I ate it anyway since I was so hungry but what if I had a peanut allergy? Also, I wish they had more vegan options like vegan protein, a chocolate hazelnut spread or sauce, etc. other than that I really enjoy playa bowls and think they're reasonable and would probably go back at some point again. Update: came back again and they have vanilla plant fusion. I got a coconut bowl for the almond butter and again they used peanut butter...then I asked one of the girls to definitely make sure they use the plant protein being vegan and having a dairy allergy. They didn't look too pleased with me watching and making sure, but I wanted to be on the safe side. But I'm pretty sure they didn't use protein in general or it could be because the coconut has a powerful taste. I'll figure out later if they used the vegan protein or not.. This used to be my favorite place but it's been going downhill, especially now during the pandemic. I ordered for pick up and over an hour later my order was still not ready. They need a better system for pick up too, since no one could social distance. Employees would come outside with your order and call your name (very very quietly) once or twice and then go back inside. Maybe you could do what many others are doing for take out and have a table outside and have the bags on there where people could grab and go. After an hour of waiting I kindly asked if she could check for my name and the employee gave me attitude! She said "you see how many people are waiting you're going to have to wait!" I was so taken aback- it was a simple question and I didn't ask like a "Karen" so I didn't understand why she had to get snippy with me.
