Not a huge fan of this place, first time in New York and probably wouldn't recommend this location out of all the other places I've been around here. after a 6 hour flight from CA, an evening in Time Square, 4 hours of sleep, 5 hours in the studio, followed by a 3 hour nap, my friends and i were FAMISHED... 4pm, and not knowing where to go for food, we asked the hotel doorman for suggestions. He suggested we go towards W46th street between 8th and 9th ave. We walked in that direction, there wasn't much that caught our fancy. Thankfully, we turned the corner and saw PCP. We walked in and it was quiet, with only a handful of people at the bar downstairs. We were seated upstairs, at our request. It was quiet at first, we were the only table upstairs, since it was only 4:30 or so... Even still, we got prompt service, and they didn't forget about us. By the time we left, several more tables had joined us upstairs. All the food was good - my friends veggie sandwich looked amazing, and the shrimp penne was just the right amount of creaminess. The fries with (and without) cajun seasoning were awesome. and my fish and chips, tender, not too dry. Oooh, i can't believe i almost forgot to talk about the drink. it was some pineapple something special cocktail they had. It was so good, perfectly stiff, and a fabulous way to wake up from an afternoon nap. Walking into Playwright was a life-saver. Got us fueled up and ready to take on the town again! read more

Came here last Tuesday to pre-game before America's Got Talent. They had $5 cosmos during happy hour and they were absolutely delicious! Strong too! I had 3 and I was good for the night :) The bartender was a sweetheart and kept us entertained! I will be back. Very chill environment. read more

We just came here for drinks because on their website it specified that the date we went, Friday, December 21st, there was a happy hour. My friend had already gotten a table and when the waiter came by, he asked for our order and I asked about the happy hour and he just says, "we don't have a happy hour here." I have stopped in here a couple of times and have always enjoyed myself. This pub is spread out over four floors. They have a fantastic rooftop patio that boasts views of the surrounding theater district. The service is not as good as I would like it to be but it isn't terrible either. Prices are reasonable and they have a relatively expansive menu. It is worth stopping by if you're in the area. read more

Stopped in yesterday after seeing a matinee. Great little spot. Has a long bar on the left and tables on the right. There is a dining area upstairs, but we only went to the bar. The bar area had all the NFL games going on at the same time. It was a little bit like sensory overload, but in a good way. The beer was good, as was the appetizer sampler we ordered. Chill place in the theater district to grab a drink while you have to wait for a table at nearby John's Pizzeria or if you're just trying to pass time waiting for your Broadway show to start. It should be noted that I loathe this neighborhood, and never EVER come here if I am not forced to by a visiting friend/family member, and therefore I always try to steer us towards the least "touristy" places possible. The location would indicate that it is full of tourists, and while it kind of is, it really doesn't feel like it, which is always a good thing. I ordered a Ketel One martini and it was well made and very strong-I was way more inebriated after imbibing than I normally would be! Definitely worth the cost-it was $18 for my martini and my friend's rum and coke. If I had to be in this 'hood, this is a good place to spend time over a drink or two with a friend. read more

I love calamari and theirs was good with a well paired green sauce (with a kick). The bread pudding is delicious with a nice punch of rum and raise. Another stop on our drink our way through Manhattan tour. Spotted this Irish bar with a rooftop patio and decided to stop in. Climbed three flights upstairs and sat in the corner of the bar in the shade (it's hot!). Got two local beers, the Brooklyn lager which was very nice. FYI they close the rooftop patio at 4:30 for dinner service. read more

Playwright is a bit off the beaten track from Times Square. It's a many level bar, but don't be fooled in thinking this is typical bar food, as the food is actually really good. Salad, sandwich, you cannot go wrong. Everything we have had here we really like. And, they pour a good Guinness. The best service is at the bar - so sit up there, make friends, with the bartender, and have a great meal and a beer while watching some football. read more

The rooftop setting is great, the food and drinks not so much. This is a nice place to meet and grab a drink, but they're typical New York City drinks and are watered down. I'm sure there are nicer rooftops in SOHO but for the central location it's not terrible. read more

Good service on a very busy and crowded St. Patrick's Day parade day. I had the Shepherds Pie, which was just OK. It was too liquidy for my liking, but the taste was good. My wife had the Chicken Pot Pie. The crust was like a rock, requiring a knife to cut through it. Just like my meal, the base was very watery, but tasted ok. My son had the Steak, which was perfectly cooked and he enjoyed it. I was happy to see turnips on his plate... I ate those. read more

I've come here several times and I'm never disappointed. The food is really yummy its all well seasoned. The drinks are good, I would recommend an amaretto sour or lager bomb :). Bartender was pretty, so she didn't think she had to serve the customers. The beer was cold and not overpriced for NY. Someone got something fried while we were there and the oil definitively needed changing. Lots of TV's, it was a good place to watch the Rangers beat the Devils. read more

We stumbled into this place as times square tourist a few years ago. It was a place where anybody can get a drink, no fuss. Every year that my bff and I would visit the city, we would stop by this pub on our last night to say goodbye to NYC. There's always people here, even on a random Monday night. They have music on the 1st floor, drinks prices are reasonable, and you can get a cosmo for $5, draft beers for $4 during Happy Hour. I recommend the fish and chips here. Now that I finally moved to NYC, I took my bff here last month on her last night here. We like the 1st floor, always busy, and yes, you can always gets a drink. You don't have to be anybody special. My husband and I wandered in before a show a few blocks away, essentially because we were starving and pub food is generally middling to tasty. The place isn't all that wheelchair-friendly, but what else is new in Manhattan? Luckily, the charming hostess offered to squish the two tiny tables that were the right height together so we'd have room to eat. I had the grilled, marinated chicken sandwich, which was quite lovely; I imagine it would have been the same even if I hadn't been ready to gnaw off several of my own fingers. The accompanying fries were tasty as well. If you've seen my other food reviews, you know my husband had the burger, which came as ordered with a lovely flavor.
