Food was great and salsa and chips the best. Great House Margarita and I am very picky about my margaritas.

My gf got the T-bone steak and when her steak came it was cooked to perfection but had ZERO seasoning. We asked if they could put seasoning on it and put it on the grill for a minute just to sear the seasoning on the steak. 30 minutes later she gets her steak back and it is over cooked into oblivion. Also took our waitress over 15 minutes to get us a water refill, she also only stopped and checked on us ONCE during this. They don't care if they serve terrible food read more

Great flavors! I liked the modern atmosphere with lots of natural light. Service was great, everyone was very friendly and attentive. My Ranchero Special was a LOT of food with a piece of juicy well seasoned chicken and a piece of thin steak that was very tender and easy to cut and very lean. I have come to not expect a lot out of the rice at Mexican restaurants but this was very good, not oily at all and not crunchy. The refried beans were great as well as the pico. Tortillas were soft for some great fajita like action and this plate also comes with one chicken enchilada too sending you completely to the full zone. The chips and salsa were also very tasty with big onions and cilantro. There was a creamy dip with the chips too that had a unique flavor that I was neutral on but my wife loved. She also had the chicken tacos al pastor that had a tangy red sauce and flavorful pineapple on three soft tacos that were overflowing with meat. She ended up taking one home. The Pineapple Serrano and Jalapeño margaritas we had were great too. Could have been a little spicier maybe. Surprised they didn't have different sizes on the margaritas, the default was what you would consider a jumbo at other places but was perfect for us. Fun new restaurant in Sioux Falls! I love their modern twist on Mexican food. They brought out chips and salsa with some white cream dipping sauce. It was HEAVENLY! My first choice for Mexican was Chevys Fresh Med but they were closed so I searched Mexican restaurants and read reviews for each & this restaurant had the best reviews. Most Mexican restaurants are all the same so I was excited to try this. Considering it was a Saturday night we were seated right away & our server took our order right away. What was crazy was how fast the food arrived! My husband had the 2 beef burritos & he enjoyed them. I had the beef enchiladas & beef taco and they were ok, nothing exciting about them. One thing I wish they had an ala cart section. I really wanted to try the California fish tacos. The margaritas at the next table looked great and they do make guacamole table side if you would like it. We were in and out in an hour. The interior is pretty ups ale and not your typical brightly painted Mexican restaurant. It was nice but I would probably not go again. read more

This was our second visit to Plaza Azteca. We were seated quickly during a slow lunch on a Wednesday. Our server was friendly enough and we started our meal with drinks: water for my wife and the strawberry agave Margarita ($16) for myself. The margarita tastes great, but it very clearly overpriced- they don't even name a tequila for the recipe, just "tequila blanco". The margarita glasses appear large, but they're filled to the brim with ice, so your serving isn't actually that "jumbo" at all. We ordered the Queso Fundido appetizer which is about a cup of chorizo with queso blanco poured over it served on a scalding fajita grill plate. The plate was so hot that it completely scorched the queso and the chorizo, meaning there was virtually zero flavor left in it by the time we tried it. I would not recommend the queso fundido to anyone. My wife for lunch steak fajitas ($15.50) and I got the chori pollo ($19). Had I known about the flavorless chorizo, I would have ordered something else. The meal itself was fine: chicken was tender and well seasoned, beans and rice were good, tortillas were hot and fresh. But it did not rise to the level of commanding a $19 plate price. Our lunch (two drinks, app, two meals) came to $87, a price which simply did not reflect the quality of food, drinks, or service we experienced. I would have happily paid maybe $55 or $60 for the meal, but at $100 with a tip, this new Sioux Falls establishment has not earned a third visit from us. read more

First time here. Walking in, the restaurant is well decorated, kind of contemporary and fun. Service was wonderful. We had the table side fresh made guacamole, it was really good. Our meals were a bit disappointing. Kind of bland. Prices are a bit expensive. Might give it another try, but not sure. read more

Went for lunch mid week. Wasn't busy at all. Seated fast waited for too long for our waiter to greet us. Ordered the Enchilada Suizas. They were hardly edible. The sauce was too sweet and they used canned chicken . Portion was very small even for lunch and the refried beans were flavorless. Salsa was ok no heat at all and the weird white dipping sauce they serve with the chips was odd and not in a good way. I agree with previous reviews... if you want a great Mexican meal go to the local restaurants in town. read more

We finally tried this! They always seem busy but the mixed reviews had us questioning if we should go. I thought it was really good. The chimichangas were not as crispy as I'd have liked but still good. Not a fan of the cold ranch served with the chips and salsa but it was complimentary. The drinks were great! We just had the best Mexican food ever at Plaza Azteca in Sioux Falls. Their homemade guacamole was nothing short of amazing. I had the best Pina Colada that I have ever had. Ordered fish tacos. Used frozen fish, deep fried tI'll outside was brown. Completely cold inside. Threw it on a cold tortilla and put some red cabbage on the top and a lime. A cup of bottled chili sauce. Disgusting. Sent it back. Ordered enchiladas suizes came within 3-4 minutes. Threw canned chicken on a cold tortilla with a canned green sauce on it with drizzle of sour cream and sprinkling of white cheese. It was cold. The black beans were from a can with about a teaspoon of cheese. All disgusting. Not great service. Offered no water. Pineapple marguerita was good. Everything tasted like it was put together out of jars and cans. Not even close to restaurant quality. Wondering if there is actually a chef. Will NEVER go back. Overpriced. read more

Had to a chance to try out the new offering on the south end of Sioux Falls. We went on a weeknight, so it wasn't too crowded. The first thing we noticed was the complete lack of ambience. It was like sitting in a food court at the mall. Cheap tables and looking around everything is drab and gray. No artwork, no "theme" music and nothing to enhance the dining experience except a lot of noise. The chips were and salsa were bland and nothing noteworthy. I noticed the drinks/bar menu were definitely on the high end though they did offer a good selection of options. The service was good, and we received our order very quickly, and drink refills were quick too. I had the one of the combos, beef enchilada's w/ taco ($14) while my dining companion had the chicken fajitas ($20). The enchiladas were also very bland, and my friend noted the chicken fajitas also had a few pieces of beef in them and the chicken and veggies all had that same bland 'steamed' taste as if they had been sitting in a steamer pan before being served. The table is also completely bare, no hot sauce (most places like this have a couple of varieties of hot sauce at the table IE Tapatio or something to give life to the food) and there was also no salt or pepper. Chain restaurant that isn't worth going to. Food was cold, no flavor to the food, it was over priced, portions were small compared to other SF Mexican restaurants. It was so loud with the music you couldn't have a conversation without yelling. The line was long, almost an hour to get a table and the service was poor. We had to ask multiple times for our bill, only to find our bill was not correct. Wouldn't go back, I'll continue to support the local ma' and pa' Mexican restaurants with good tasty food and service in Sioux Falls. read more

This is my second time going back to this restaurant, so obviously they're doing something right!! My first time here they knocked it out of the park and I had absolutely no complaints, but I can't say the same on the second go....although it wasn't the food being the issue!!! The food here gets FIVE STARS all the way!!! I think it was the 5 wait staff/host that stood there with a dumb look on their face when we initially walked in at 4:00 when it wasn't busy yet, who all thought, "hmmm, where should we seat these people in an empty restaurant?" Well we were seated At apparently a table where the waitress wasn't even there YET, because after 10 minutes of waiting for nobody to come over for our drinks I went back up to our lovely hostess and asked and she informed me our waitress just "showed up for her shift and should be right over!" I went and sat back down and looked around and saw nobody but we did flag down a nice gentleman that was walking by waiting on other tables that were now surrounding us. We did end up ordering once he brought our water since we didn't want to pass up an opportunity of not getting anyone back again! I ordered the Philly Cheese Burrito and my husband ordered the Piña Loka. They were both amazing! (The first time I was here I order the birria tacos and by far the BEST birria tacos I've had! I had the lunch portion and it was huge) When we were finished, it had seemed our waiter had disappeared - we waited for about 15 minutes before we could get a box or a check to get out of there. Granted, they did get busy and were very packed at this point.....or maybe he was just chit chatting with the crew up front....we don't know! Lol! All we know is our food was outstanding. Waitstaff NEEDS WORK & apparently needs to get to work on time. We will be back - wish the queso wasn't $9.00....that's highway robbery!!! We have tried it twice. The food is good but spendy for what it is. We went for dinner both times and our servers were horrible. We didn't get our whole order either time and had to hunt down other staff members to find our servers. They don't come back and check on you at all. Fantastic Food, service was definitely lacking. Unfortunately we had terrible service by the manager who was too busy with everything and everybody else to pay any attention to us. Probably a bad time of day for them but perfect for us since we arrived to an almost empty restaurant that quickly pretty well filled up.
