I thought this place was pretty great, can't really say anything was off today. Probably the biggest issue is getting there because you have to navigate a winding maze of roads/parking lots to find it. Once you find it though, it's worth it. The inside is huge, it has high vaulted ceilings and a lot of nice woodwork (was it something else before?). It was super clean too. They have a bar. I was most impressed by the service, our waiter was super efficient and very friendly. The guy that made our guacamole table-side was really nice (and funny!) too. They have your standard Mexican restaurant menu, huge and overwhelming, lots of combinations, etc. I ordered the chimichangas. Our food arrived incredibly fast, I think we waited longer to order our food than for it to arrive. The chimichangas were fantastic. Prices are reasonable. Definitely worth checking out. read more

When I planned my trip to Washington, PA, I selected another Taco/Mexican restaurant. When I checked in to my hotel, they provided a list of restaurants and Plaza Azteca was on it. I did a quick Yelp search and chose to come here. I sat at the bar and had their Birria Tacos. Wonderful!!! It was not crowded on a Sunday afternoon and the service was good. I really enjoyed it so much that when my friend arrived the next day, I told her about it and we had a late lunch on Monday. She had never had Birria tacos so she had them and loved them. I chose the chicken and chorizo dinner (I can't remember the name). She also had Sangria and I had the house margarita. Again, great choices. So the next afternoon, we were looking to get a drink and ended up here again. It was happy hour and we stayed a while. My friend ordered the Mexican Fried Rice with Chicken. She was intrigued and ended up loving it. I had the Chorizo and cheeze fondue (I think they call it Fundido). I love the chorizo. So when I got home and before I started this review, I did a search. To my glee and surprise, this is a chain restaurant. I didn't get chain vibes. The closest one to me in MD is about 1.5 hours away but there are two w/in 20 minutes of my bro in VA. Absolutely amazing stop! If you live around the area or passing through, I highly suggest this delicious spot. Immediately upon walking in, the host was so nice and quickly sat us at a booth. The atmosphere was fun and lively. Our waitress, Rosa was so incredible! She was very polite and kept checking on us in the most timely fashion (after apps, food, and dessert). Disappointed with this place. Our bill was $61 and I don't feel like the quality of the food was worth this. I had the chicken fajitas and the chicken was unseasoned. The tomato/pico was such a minimal amount. The rice was plain. The beans were good. The enchiladas and burrito combo were the exact same. Just a tortilla with plain hamburger meat stuffed inside with a little sauce drizzled over it. Even the salsa given to us with the chips was disappointing as it was runny and didn't have much flavor. Sorry I really wanted to like you but the food was sub par. I like my food hot...what I was served was barely warm. Taste and quality....again you let me down. Quite honestly..it reminded me of a frozen Mexican dinner reheated and slapped on a plate. The ground beef lacked flavor. The salsa was so-so with no option for a spicy salsa. My chili relleno was oily and rather bland. On a plus note the server was attentive and friendly. Can't say I want to go back after this experience. Well this is a new restaurant that just opened up . So excited to be the first to review it . Meeting a friend here so I got here a little early to grab a drink at the bar. Bar had a large selection of drinks and at least 16 different beers on draft . They offer free chips and salsa. After a drink at the bar went over to the hostess and got a table . Very nice place with great food. This restaurant used to be a Ponderosa. They kept the open floor plan but dressed up the interior quite a bit. Open, light and airy with very well done decor. I ordered the Burrito Chipotle and was impressed. The grilled chicken was done to perfection, not tough or rubbery. The sauce was not as spicy as I had expected, and had a nice smoky flavor. Be aware, when you arrive they will ask of you want guacamole. This is not gratis, but 'table side guacamole' at $9. It is made to order fresh at your table and uses two whole avacados. Very good. The service was very attentive and courteous. Well worth 20% tip. I'd come here again, and I suggest that the other Mexican restaurants in our area have a serious competitor. read more

Great service but only decent food. I think Plaza Azteca is a little pricey (especially drinks) for what it is. I've never had a bad experience but it leaves something to be desired. I've ordered the Tacos de Camaron several times. It is a good-sized portion of three tacos filled with grilled shrimp, cheese, and pico de gallo. It is pretty good but there is a lot of cheese. I've also recently had the Pescado Azteca - fish with shrimp, mushrooms, spinach, and peppers. I like having an entree (fork) option as well. This was pretty flavorful albeit pretty pricey. The fresh table-side guacamole is also a cool experience, but I wouldn't really do it more than once. Honestly, making guacamole isn't that difficult. Overall, I'd say try it out but there are definitely better Mexican options. read more

We ordered through grubhub so I cannot comment on the physical aspects of the restaurant. I was not impressed with the food. The Baja tacos were basically just a giant beer battered fish filet with too much spicy mayo and a little sprinkle of cabbage. My boyfriend got the enchiladas el jefe and seemed to enjoy then well enough. I know its standard for Mexican restaurants to send take out with a big bag of chips and salsa but I really wish there would be an option to skip it. It seems such a waste to throw it all out. Every time we are out in Washington we usually pick up some Plaza Azteca. In non-COVID times I recommend dining in! The staff and experience is always lovely. For appetizers I love to get the table side guacamole or ceviche. I also really enjoy that they have a pretty diverse vegetarian/vegan selection, this makes it easy to find tasty options that won't make me very sick. Above average Americanized Mexican food. My chicken and chorizo burrito was really good and the fresh made guacamole was excellent. My wife said her enchiladas were very good as well.
