My late grandmother was a superb country cook and her name was Maggie. Good omen! We got there about 11:45 and got a table right away. Our server was Devin and she was terrific. We split the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The portion that they brought out was gigantic....plenty for two average appetites. What I really liked about it was - it was not over-breaded and it was fork-tender. (in my humble opinion, too many places are giving you a lot more breading that doesn't have meat under it. Yes, it's a first-world problem.) The mashed potatoes were also quite good, along with the cream gravy. I'm not a huge green bean fan, but my wife really liked them. This place has a cool vibe and we plan to return sometime soon. It's one of the top 3 CFS's we've had in Fort Worth / mid-cities.

We ordered nachos as an appetizer to split, along with two beers and a kids meal. What arrived was Motley Crue waking from a drug binge, raiding the pantry and trash, then declaring "let's do it." What was supposed to be nachos was anything but. The only explanation is someone who had never seen nachos tried to recreate them after hearing a rumor from someone at a Lowe's parking lot. The "chips" were not tortilla chips. They were rectangular strips of pale, flimsy material that looked like scraps of drywall film pulled out of a new construction site. An albino drywall experiment that somehow escaped the kitchen and landed on a plate. The entire thing was covered in barbecue sauce, with some mystery white liquid poured over the top. We assume it was supposed to be queso, but it definitely was not queso. Calling it queso feels disrespectful to actual queso. We ate maybe a quarter of it and decided we needed to leave before things got worse. Six hours later, we received an unannounced encore performance in the bathroom. I would avoid this place like a plague outbreak--unless you have an upcoming colonoscopy and want to skip the bowel prep.

My guess is 200 menu options are available (e.g., pot roast, burgers, veggie plates, tacos...). TIP: Head to the counter, order/pay, pick table, & waitstaff brings your order to you. Staff is SO friendly! Food is not quick, but it's worth it bc it's prepared for you so arrives hot & delicious. Ambience is late 80s/90s frozen in time. There is a tv to watch the news & sports. Maybe 15 tables inside. Location is just off 8th, a few blocks south of Rosedale/Magnolia. Private parking in-front. Definitely worth a visit!!!

There are two interior dining areas and a few bistro type tables on the sidewalk in front. My husband comes here for their chicken fried steak and loves it. I decided that today I would get a BLT since I had seen a good review on it. They definitely didn't hold back on the bacon. It was crunchy which is the way I like it, but may not be for everyone. I just wish the lettuce and tomato was more proportioned to the bacon. After eating a few bites I had to open the sandwich to make sure there was tomato in it, and there was but it was a small thinly sliced portion. So, the sandwich was good but the B overpowered the L and T. Food came out promptly even though is was a busy lunch service. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Love The Tavern! We…read moreended up there for Sunday brunch on a bit of an impromptu decision, and I'm glad we did. I had the salmon Benedict, and it was fantastic. It was cooked perfectly, and the portion was huge, I couldn't even finish. We also tried the blueberry pancakes, and I honestly think they might be the best pancakes I've ever had. Definitely worth ordering. As always, the service was great and on point. We even got to sit on the patio, which was surprisingly comfortable for August in Texas. They have fans on each corner that help circulate the air. The Tavern always has a great vibe, and it shows in everything from the food to the staff. We'll definitely be back soon!

We were led to the rear of the cafe and seated at a 2 top in the middle of the dang floor, by our selves, surrounded by booths, VERY AWKWARD DINING EXPERIENCE! Well, 5 minutes after we sat down, I'll be danged if she didn't seat a party of 2 at the lone booth that she lied about being held for a party of 4!!! She ruined the entire dining experience, which was my wife's birthday dinner out......should have walked out of the place and gone somewhere else, like to Clearfork!!!!!!!!

Decided to pop in after being in the area and it was also too long since my last review here. I…read morecame in at lunch hour and it was popping. On the hottest day, I sat outside, but the fans kept the air moving so it wasn't terrible. Joseph attended to me quickly and was excited to serve me despite the heat. I ordered the steak bite appetizer and the mahi mahi tacos with fries. The steak bites were flavorful and the sautéed onions amazing. Perfect appetizer for two. The mahi mahi tacos were simply beautiful. All the flavors came through from the housemate tortilla, grilled mahi mahi to the citrus marinade and pickled onions. I do think the avocado cream got forgotten but I asked for it and Joseph brought me some. I added it to the second taco and it elevated. The crema has a little kick that is just perfect. I also consider myself a picky French fry eater. I'm more a frite fan than fry fan. Maybe it's the tallow, but these fries were wonderfully crispy and well salted. I highly recommend this meal! Overall, a great meal with great service by Joseph. It is always a mood booster to be around people that are in great spirits and do their job well.

When it came to the starters, the ordering menu online states the portions could feed 3-4 people. I…read morethought, "Great! reasonably priced starters that can feed an entire family." However, once I received the starters, I felt the portions were much smaller than expected. In my opinion, the charred campfire chicken could feed one person, while the cochinita nachos could feed two. I will say the charred campfire chicken was juicy and had a nice charred texture. The white bbq aioli and smoked corn slaw were delicious and paired nicely with the chicken. Unfortunately, the cochinita nachos were very disappointing and, honestly the worst nachos I've had at a restaurant. The nachos are the primary reason for my two star rating. The Mexican pulled pork contained a few fatty pieces, and the Jack cheese was unevenly dumped throughout the nachos in large chunks. The bottom of the plate was also soaking in grease from the cheese. I've never experienced this with nachos at another restaurant, and I would think the excess grease would be drained so the chips at the bottom aren't left sitting in it. I noticed that most guests were ordering their small burgers and fries, so I may return to try those or possibly order another chicken dish.
