We went there for the first and last time. Short version: Soup was supposed to be included with our meal. We received our entrées, no soup. The waitress says she forgot our soup, that brain-dead imbecile, and tells us to tell the flat liner at the register, he'll adjust the bill. The flat liner says he can't take it off the bill because the soup was included with the meal (in other words, free). F*ck the Plaza Diner. The food sucked anyway. read more

My husband and I were here last night and seated at one of their small booths. The place was packed! Lovely waitress, smiling and accommodating. We ordered the special- short ribs, mashed potatoes, and chose the coleslaw(never even tasted) as a side. Started with salad(good), and soup. New England clam chowder (potato soup-tasteless). The entree was presented nicely, and although the ribs were "burnt" on the outside, they were very tender inside. However, the sauce/gravy was also lacking in taste, and salting it didn't help at all. We didn't complain. Ok-so, here's the problem:- about 5-10 minutes into our meal, the wreath that was hanging above us, falls down smack on top of our table!! sending carrots and coleslaw smashing to the floor, and almost giving me (a heart patient), a heart attack! After all apologies from our waitress, we were offered replacement meals (which actually they were out of), but- no, thanks. Or- free dessert! We chose the dessert- to go, but could not believe we still got a bill for the entire meal, but were told it would be rectified at the cashiers counter. What we got there was an argument, telling us the dessert was our "rectification". . After a few more words, we were begrudgingly given a $9 discount! I feel that our uneaten meals should have been free, along with the desserts, and a voucher for another meal on the house, at the very least. (Still left a nice tip for the waitress, too). They told me they would give me 2 new pieces of French toast and took forever to deliver that. He then came and told me not to ever call again. They are horrible service and the food is bad. The food is definitely lacking.....something......the pancakes had a strange taste, almost as if they weren't cooked completely through or something. The scrambled eggs TASTED fine, but lacked that fluffy beautiful texture most look for. Instead, it came out so flat it looked as though it had been run over before being plated. Thankfully, the bacon was real and cooked properly, but everything else either had a funny taste or was presented TERRIBLY! The only saving grace for this diner are the employees. The staff is very fast but also pleasant. If you combined the service of this diner with the quality of food from a diner down the road (George and sons) you'd have an outstanding establishment!!! read more

There's no better way to put it: Communication stunk today! When we first walked into the establishment, everything was going fine and the communication during the order-taking process was rather mediocre, the stuff that stands out where communication says "woah!" (and the gap starts) is the fact that we had gotten served on several chipped plates. Communication worsened as the experience continued going forward. At the very end, we told one of the employees (who could potentially have been the owner or manager) that we had requested an additional desert. He should have in turn told our server about it. Minutes later, our server came back with the check (she obviously didn't have enough time to make the adjustment to the receipt, but because only half the additional stuff had arrived at the table, we had to open our mouths (we are law-abiding citizens). Personally, when it came to the menu, there was no information as to their proportions. Although the menu never told us that a short stack of French toast would have only been one piece (versus the traditional two) they told us (that should have been mentioned that short stacks of french toast were only one "sheet"). The other iffy communication was the real size of the OJ that was relatively-sized by our server. If you are in the mood for orange juice, for a healthy serving glass, go for the large size OJ, though the large size is comparable to small glasses elsewhere). Everything else is tiny! When I was told about the size of the small OJ, I vouched for upgrading to a medium and was sadly disappointed. It was nowhere close to an average medium size glass as compared to most diners elsewhere. It'll be a long time before i head back into this establishment again. Thanks to this experience. Although this place years ago used to be a favorite for us to stop at, this place has turned into something we don't want to stop at regularly. About a week ago, my parents went through there and received a chipped glass and a cheap bill) But then hoped the same not-so-much issue-type of day would transpire yet again, and apparently, we got more than we could bargain for. The place wasn't very busy, so the problems couldn't have been a result of that type of issue. If there were 5 people in that restaurant during this morning, I could have easily said that the amount of people there were causing a hassle, but it wasn't that. 4/4/14, My boyfriend and I went to have breakfast at The Plaza Diner, a place where we normally go to for breakfast. Our experience today was not what we expected to have. First of all it took approximately 25 minutes to come out and that was 2 orders of a combination omelet with bacon and ham and cheese, both orders had the same meat but different cheese choice. We started to eat and we both looked at each other like something is very wrong here, we opened our omelet up and it was just ham and cheese, no bacon, not even a scent of smell of bacon. We called our waitress over and explained to her that we did not get the bacon with the omelet. She was looking for it and I said to her that if you have to look for it, it is surely clear that there is no bacon to be found. She did offer to bring out some bacon on the side, he did not want it so he was already displeased with his breakfast, wanted to change the bill from combination to ham and cheese omelet. She came out with 2 very small pieces of bacon that has been sitting around, the bacon was cold, also stating this is what the chef gave me and he calls the shots. It was certainly not worth the money. My boyfriend, is a quite man and doesn't like to create any waves, but this was something that really annoyed him once he received the bill. He was charged for both omelets with bacon and he expressed his story to the hostess and she was very sorry as well as the waitress. So the chef, makes the calls as to what the customer gets charged for is what we were told. Unfortunately for Plaza Diner, we were both displeased and sorry that we will no longer be patronizing to our local diner anymore. Message to the chef, you may of called the shots to cheat your customers out of their money, but what you lost was a long standing customer, so I call that shot! We tried this place after a late movie. We ended up coming in a half hour before closing. To be honest, I wish they hadn't served us. Here's what happened. I ordered a pizza burger deluxe. Comes with fries, lettuce, tomato, pickle and a couple onion rings. Typical diner fare. The other two that I was with, ordered a burger with swiss, sauteed mushrooms and onions, and a cheese omelet, respectively. Let's start with the omelet. It was runny. Rushed. The homefries weren't very good. As for the burgers, we had both asked for medium rare, given the fact that restaurants usually cook the meat further than the order you give. What we received, were two fry and overcooked burgers. They weren't hockey pucks, but they were sure as *heck* not medium-rare, or anywhere close. My burger was fine. There's sauce and a bunch of cheese to moisten it. I didn't bother complaining. The other individual, did. And rightfully so. First off, she didn't even get what she ordered. The mushrooms look like they were just popped out of a can, cold, dry and thrown on the burger. They weren't sauteed. Likewise, the onions didn't show up at all. The hamburger was dry. Dryer than mine. And with nothing to camouflage it. We told management. The owner came over and looked at it. He basically said "Oh, it looks OK!". After he left, the waitress agreed that the burger was overcooked, and felt bad that she had to take heat for the chef's mistake. Evidently, this is not uncommon at this establishment. As I read the other reviews, I could see similar complaints. As of now, I wouldn't really recommend this place to anyone. There are better places to spend your money, and on a far better meal. Pretty nice for diner food! I liked the atmosphere, our waitress was phenomenal with answering all our questions and making sure our orders were all correct. It was great! After coming here several times before with "ok" service, this last visit prompted a review. The quality of the food has gone down hill, burgers are prepackaged, tomatoes are small and the lettuce is brown. Not a fan of Plaza Diner. Between the quality of food and prices you can do better. Food is literally just thrown together. My toddler got a hot dog and I don't know what came out. It was white and flavorless. There beverages come out in tiny cups which means constant refills which means more money. The service isn't always friendly either. I used to love the Plaza Diner but since it went under new ownership I find it totally lacking in the quality of the food they serve.

First let me say that we have gone to this diner in Hudson for many decades when we were in the Hudson area and needed a place to get something to eat. We have noticed a long slow decline but last night was the end of the line for us. We went there at around 4:45 for dinner on a Thursday. They already had no vegetables for serving with dinner except corn which was cold and out of the can. I suspect the offered beans which they were out of would have been canned beans as well. Did this place enter the 21st century. The food was below average even for an old diner and bad given current diner fair. Then on top of that the food provided an intestinal nightmare later that evening. I have what one would call an iron clad digestive tract and never have issues. I do like to eat and I can handle a lot. I have a simple rule no internal organs and if it wiggles, crawls stay away and if it jiggles be cautious. Stay away I am done here. read more

I've eaten here plenty of times hoping the next time it would be better but it never gets better unfortunately. Burgers are always so dry it's tough to swallow! After confronting one of the people who took my order the following time about it he said "well did you say well done?!" I said "um no,it even if I did it was way past that!" So I ordered a burger again and asked for medium well this time.... Guess what? It came back as a dry tasteless patty, once again! Their food has no flavor at all! Oh and another time I went to eat there, inside this time because I usually do take out, there were fly's everywhere! All over the salad bar , hovering us, it was disgusting! I ordered a Chicken cutlet parm sandwich and fries, the cheese looked like it was melted then put in the fridge and then taken out to be melted again... After eating there, I had the worse stomach bug ever. I was violently sick! I never called to report it but I should have! I definitely got food poisoning! My husband still continues to give them business but I'd much rather walk a mile or so to another diner. read more

I eat here very often for a couple of reasons. One being that they always have good food in my opinion. I know people who have bad experiences here, but it is usually just a small problem like the food comes late or they mess up slightly on the cooking. But normally it is good for me. Every day they have great soups and the service, although slow at times, is still quite good. The prices are a little high, but it is worth the extra couple of dollars to get good food. I personally have only have two bad experiences here, the first was when i was given the wrong food (it was suppose to go to the table next to mine) and the second time was when the service was extremely bad. They were extremely packed and they only had a handful of waiters and waitresses working at the moment, so it made sense that the service was going to be slow. All in all, the Plaza Diner is in my opinion a really good restaurant to go to for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. read more

Very good diner food and the price is right. I generally get burgers or breakfast here. The service is attentive, and the food is prepared in a standard way. The hamburgers come with tomatoes. The portions are big. You can fill up with 10-15 bucks and be good for the day. read more

Stopped in starving for lunch on a very busy Mother's Day but immediately was seated at the counter. Gyro sandwich was delicious and hot, reall hit the spot! My companion's lox omlette was a bit tasteless and looked overdone, but we left happy! Will be back. read more

Absolutely, positively, the worst meal I have ever attempted to eat. And I am not very picky. Gross.

I had one of the specials last week, mussels at $7.99. I love mussels and eat them often, as soon as I ate the first one, I knew they were old. The taste was not sweet, but strong and fishy. One mussel I spit out and wouldn't eat. And only 12 mussels on my plate! They are so cheap, usually you get a huge stack. Complained to the waitress, who spoke English poorly, apparently she complained to the chef, could see he was agitated. Nothing done, so paid the bill, also complained to the cashier, again, nothing done. Immediately after leaving the diner, was nauseated, continued to be feeling ill for two days.
