In Alaska, we'd probably call a place like this a "Roadhouse". It's a nice little place to wet your whistle in a hilly/"driftless" area of Wisconsin. They have man beers on tap, and the variety is impressive! Everything from hoppy IPAs to crushable corn lagers. Definitely worth a stop! read more

This was a stop for us touring the rural Wisconsin countryside. The place has a restaurant, bar, booths, tables and a patio. The decor is cram as many photos on the wall as you can to hide all the old school woodwork. The whole place is old woodwork from floor to ceiling. People were enjoying the food and the bar with friendly staff and one guy offered to give us his stool if he had one but he didn't. I can't speak for the food because we were heading for dinner but the place was full of people eating. This is a cool funky place and I'm glad that we stopped for the ex. read more

First time I visited this place was in about 1971. Whenever I'm up around Ridgeway and Dodgeville, I make a point of buzzing it to make sure it's still there and doing well. There were a few spells in the 70's and maybe 80's where it was not open. The current owners are excellent stewards of their historical little building. read more

I visited this bar around the end of January 2018. The location is an older former store turned bar with clapboard walls, and tongue and groove ceiling and walls. There were two quaint wooden booths for dining seating and black and white motorcycle photos displayed about. They were featuring 8 beers on draft and a $5 quarter pound cheeseburger special. This cheeseburger was blanketed with Colby jack within a soft, lightly toasted bun and was paired with a little container of creamy potato salad. Tasty! Through the week they offer specials like fish frys and smoked prime rib, and I hear they do breakfast as well, so it is probably worth calling to see what is available. In any case, if you're a fan of places with character, I think you'll enjoy stopping here for a beer or a bite! read more

A hidden gem in Dodgeville! Great little restaurant and bar. A little out of the way, but the food is fantastic and the waiter/bartender was pleasant and efficient. We had burgers and fries and both were excellent. I didn't know what to expect when we got there, but they serve extremely high quality food at very reasonable prices. The place was clean, the decor was fun and interesting and they have a surprising amount of parking, even for larger vehicles. A great stop and definitely worth wandering off the beaten path to get to it. read more

I have reviewed them before and forgot I had. Earlier review I gave them 2 stars. Today it's a solid -5. It's been about 3 yr since I have been here (husband has been here recently several times with a friend) but we had out of town company and wanted a country drive and I was willing to try it again. Wow, horrible experience inside at the bar area, but we all left not thinking too much of it when the owner CONFRONTED my husband in the parking lot defending his food. WHAT? Anyway, besides the first over cooled burger and the replacement over-salted burger and the weak old fashions, everything else was standard but nothing stellar. Wait staff too loud and laughing (flirting??) with some young buck at the bar. It was getting tiresome. The echo too much for my eardrums. The stools are so damn uncomfortable at the tables. My back had enough. I needed to go. Guys wanted to drink more and watch Packer/Viking game but I couldn't stand the pain to my back, so we left but the owner actually yelled at my husband about our unhappiness with our uncle's food. Between the weak drinks and the crazy owner - well there is no need to go back again. Way out of our way. Not worth the time/effort/energy/gas/emotional distress. read more

Pleasant Ridge (a.k.a. "The Ridge," "P-Ridge," "Tred's House") is bar none one of the best bars you've probably never heard of. It's a 100+ year-old converted general store at the intersection of County Z and ZZ in Dodgeville, run by a cool cat named Charley. On any given day, there might be a line of Harleys in the front, horses tied up out back, and a really cool crowd of people from all over packed into the bar. As for specifics, it's a beer bar, so don't come looking for mixed drinks, but you can get one of the tastiest pints of Guinness you'll ever have (yes, WAY better than most Irish pubs). Charley keeps a couple Lake Louie brews on tap, too, and just added Spotted Cow. For eats, the Ridge serves breakfast (try the Texas Egg Sandwich) and lunch (go for the Ridgeburger). Charley also books some seriously good bands, including the Raindogs, the Amoreys, Screamin' Gene and the Lake Louie Growlers, Better Daze, Dealin' and others. Bands either play in the bar or from the outdoor stage, depending on weather. The Ridge is such a cool place I hesitate to tell you about it, but it's too good not to share. You should check it out. This bar is worth getting off the beaten track to visit. Nice friendly service with the bar and dining area decorated in movie art. Great menu of sandwiches and good selection of local crafts. I tried the Lake Louie IPA brewed in Arena WI about 20 miles from P Ridge. For lunch I had the Philly Cheese which was excellent, served on a local baked roll with tasty Swiss melted over hot sliced beef and veggies. Yum! My sister had The Rueben served on marbled rye which she loved. Double Yum! Great service, food and beer in a genuine country bar. Doesn't get any better than that! read more

Been there 3 times first time great for ribs.. 2nd time for burgers and they served the lettuce that was all being recalled at the time.. today for the third time ordered a BLT for 7$ and another one minus the bacon.. but still charged me 7$ for that sandwich too.. said something to bartender who went to I'm assuming the owner or manager and said something.. still came back with change for 2 7 dollar sandwiches.. wont be back there again. Pleasant Ridge is unique. A great place to have a burger, chicken sandwich, fried green beans and a good beer. I have some updates and comments to add to the earlier review. They still have 2 Lake Louie's and Guinness on tap, and rotate good beers on the other taps. They also have a good selection of bottles. In addition to Harley's or horses you might also find a pub crawl bus or a pack of bicycles in the parking lot, everyone is welcome. They have added an ATM, and have Wi-Fi. In addition to breakfast (weekends only) and lunch, the grill is open for dinner. It seems to vary how late they keep the grill open, so it may be a good idea to call if it is past 7:00. Wednesday is $2 burger night, but only burgers / appetizers are available then. They are closed on Monday's. Pleasant Ridge is definitely off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. read more

Pleasant Ridge is one of those places about which I ask, "It's so great - why don't I go there more often?" Maybe it's because I work just down the road - so I feel like it's always there. At any rate, on the way to a show at American Players Theatre recently, I initiated one of my friends into the awesomeness that is P Ridge. She was wow-ed by the scenery and bowled over by the deliciousness of the Ridge Burger. Caution: If you're looking for a place with foodie-worthy entrees and foofy la-la cocktails, the Ridge is not for you. This is a beer bar - and a cash-on-the-barrel-head beer bar, at that. (They do have an ATM, so no worries on that score.) P Ridge is about great burgers, breakfast and sandwiches in a gorgeous setting - with a back deck on which you can tip a few. Friendly people, too. Was back this week and had a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. Pretty good. Realized it's a beer-only bar too...didn't know that the first time. They have Sioux City Root Beer, and that's a big plus. Still, "A-OK". 3 stars it remains. read more

Our 1st time here. Service was good and food was ok. We ordered a couple of mixed drinks but couldn't taste any. Vodka in them. The inside was really unique and bigger than it looked from the outside. I had the mushroom burger that was tasty. read more

Pleasant Ridge is good. We had the Friday night fish fry and the fish had a different batter on it. Something I had never seen done before. Almost like a corn meal batter. It was good. An excellent little "dive" bar. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, deep fried green beans (okay, there's more but these are great staples). Breakfast is good too. Best ribs and best service. I'm not from WI, so when I'm here and it happens to be a Thursday, I make sure to go out of my way to eat here. I come to visit my boyfriends family pretty often, so this place is definitely a gem. I'm never disappointed. Make sure to get the cowboy potatoes with your order. Called to hear the specials. Person answering couldn't hear me. Didn't address me at all like a potential customer. Only said "I can't hear" to those around her and hung up on me. Pretty rude to be hung up on, regardless of reason. A better way for someone, who is looking to improve business in a small town, to respond to phone issues might me "I"m sorry, but I can't hear you. Would you mind calling back? Maybe the connection will be better. Sorry to have to hang up on you" and THEN, hang up. I called back thinking maybe my second interaction would be better. Same gal answered. I if they could hear me, they said yes --no mention of hanging up on me a second ago. I asked for the specials and the answer was just a rude "what's on the menu." I called to ask because their facebook page advertises themed nights and so I thought it was pretty cool, and was wondering what was the theme tonight. The girl who interacted with me twice representing her restaurant, made me feel not welcome to come in at all based on both interactions. nice little country bar.the owner is very rude.had breakfast there this morning and I had ordered my eggs over medium and they came out very over easy.i sent them back and the girl brought them back out to me and the owner was cooking he had just broke the yoke open and over cooked the egg completely so I sent them back again.the owner came out of the kitchen mad as hell couldn't understand what was wrong with my eggs threw my plate on our table I mean he threw it down them grabed it back up and went back to the kitchen mad.its too bad we enjoy going to this little bar but when the owner treats his customers like he treated us we will never be back and I wont recommend anyone ever eat there.by time he cooked my eggs for the third time the rest of my food was cold.this is no way for an owner to treat customers.its not my fault he cant cook an egg over medium. read more
