I dropped by Plentea when I came to visit my friends in SF. They recommended this shop, and I trust their opinion because they grew up in the SGV too. I got the ice milk with pudding and boba, something I normally get in SoCal. Plentea's version was just as good; the boba was chewy and sweet. I thought it was a cute touch (also environmentally friendly) that the drinks came in glass jars. These glass jars are not very sturdy though. I tried making tea and poured boiling hot water into the jar, and the bottom cracked--not the shop's fault; I was just dumb haha. It's all 'bout that jar, 'bout that jar, no tea. ^I'm not a fan of that song either, but it quite accurately describes my thoughts on Plentea--it's one of those places that is an obligatory SF bucket list item, but once you've gone there, had your share of photographing the photogenic hipster jars, and now have the photogenic hipster jar in your cupboard, it's not really worth going back unless you are showing friends around SF and know that take-home photogenic hipster jars will make them happy. The storefront and ambiance are everything you'd expect, i.e. photogenic and hipster. It seems a tad bit out of place in the more oldschool neighborhood as a shiny cafe boasting large, clean birch planks and a minimalist logo in an artsy font. The birch accents extend to the interior, and together with the menu written on the chalkboard, the high stool seating, and half second level layout, it gives off a very clean and modern vibe. Perhaps an advantage of the chalkboard menu is that they can raise prices easily, because when I went the prices were slightly higher than what I had seen on Yelp. Paying almost $5 for milk tea is pricey, but you are buying drinkware as well. Service was alright; it had a hint of that hipster edginess and they didn't ask me about ice/sugar level preferences when I forgot to ask. Also, be sure to grab a cap! It's quite useful for the future use of the jar. I got the iced milk tea with black tea, which turned out to be good but not all too amazing--it might have been the creamer, but I thought there was a bit of a strange taste to the milk tea overall. At least the jars are large size so there was Plentea of tea. I came here last week as I found out this place is right by my work and bought two drinks- sea salt creama with honey boba and peach green tea with lychee jelly. Prices ranged from $4.50-$6 and you get to keep the glass bottle. You could bring it with you the next time and you get 10% your next order. It is SUPER DELICIOUS and they have SUPER FRIENDLY STAFF! This was my first experience trying boba tea, or tea with tapioca balls. I have to be honest, I wasn't a fan of the boba. They were too chewy and not exactly how I imagined them to taste. Everyone in my party was trying milk tea, and I again have to be honest and say the thought of milk mixed with tea sounded gross. I'm thinking coffee and creamer/milk and tea... nah, I passed on that and branched out on my own, and ordered the strawberry green tea. Even though I usually don't like my green tea sweetened or flavored, this tea was delicious! The glass bottle was a nice touch and will bring it back with me on my next trip to San Francisco, just so that I can get 10% off, and have a reason to go back. Unless, I decide to use it as a flower vase instead. This place is one of the places that's missing in my city, so I hope that San Franciscans appreciate the fact that they have Plentea and glass bottles. I've got boba tea on my mind, so I thought it was finally time to write about my experience at Plentea. Two words: genre redefining Friends tried and failed to turn me onto boba tea in the past taking me to their favorite spots around the edges of Chinatown. But the tea was too sweet, and the tapioca pearls really did nothing for me. They were gummy, bland, and entirely undesirable. Fast forward several years to my first excursion to Plentea. I was with a group from work, and figured I would give boba tea one last try. The plan was to try the simple classic (black milk tea with tapioca pearls) and see how it went. Damn. That's good. It's the kind of good that probably now has ruined me for almost all other milk tea I might encounter. But at least I now kind of get it. Because more than a sugar bomb, this was about tea first and foremost. Tannic, malty black tea was the dominant flavor. And it was good tea. There was just enough milk and sugar to smooth out the edges. The tapioca balls weren't slimy at all. They were firm and snappy. Chewing on them was a pleasure, and the act of chewing helped to extend the joy of my tea and not diminish it. Speaking of joy... it's hard not to be delighted by the visual appeal of this shop and its product. Count me among the many who have been charmed. Given the high quality of everything else, I was only dismayed to see they were pouring Kirkland milk from Costco. This is San Francisco. It's Clover country. Get with the program Plentea. But with lines out the door, I guess they don't have to change a thing. To get a fifth star from me, they'll need to take that one last step towards awesomeness. So close. read more

One of the hyped boba tea places in the city! They are known for their signature glassware. I come here once in awhile since it is just a few minutes away from my office. I think their milk tea and fruit tea are decent, they tend to be over sweet at times. However, my favorite is the Milk Ice Tea with Brown Sugar. It tastes exactly like vanilla ice cream. I also tried their Takoyaki Balls, they are OK, more flour than tako inside. Overall, a decent place, but I prefer i-Tea more which is nearby! read more

The bottles and interior are gorgeous! The wait was decent, as it does get a little crowded if everyone just sits and waits there, but they do have a upstairs section, which is really cool. The employees were really nice. The drinks were okay, I've tasted better, but it was a nice first time try here. Parking is really hard to find, since a lot of the meters are tow-away during certain hours. So you can either park at the parking lot, or find parking farther away and walk your distance here. I didn't like the sea salt creama oolong Milk Tea as much, the creama just didn't fit to my taste at all. I got it because it was a specialty drink, and it was pretty unique, since not many boba places have that drink. But other than the drink, everything else was pretty cool. Was DYINNNNNNNNNNG to try this place ever since it opened and Dominic T. started blowing up my instagram feed with pictures.. FINALLY made it over here today during my 2 mile walk from Trader Joe's in Nob Hill and there was hardly anyone in line. They were completely out of glass bottles and offering at 20% discount for giving it to you in a plastic cup. Heck yeah! I'd prefer the plastic cup over the glass bottle any day! Since it was my first time here, I ordered the black milk tea with tapioca so I could appropriately benchmark the place. The milk tea is pretty strong..I'm feeling pretty wired after drinking it, and I'm a 3-4 shots of espresso type of gal! But I like how you can actually get the tea flavor without just a bunch of creamer and sugar. The tapioca is a great consistency and perfect the chewiness. I'm actually quite impressed! I'm definitely level setting because this is a boba shop IN FiDI and in NorCal..BUT, its worth the four stars because it is in a convenient location, has awesome hours because they're open late-ish, AND it had yummy tapioca. On the expensive side, but definitely good tea - probably one of the most talked about in SF. The tea is served in a glass bottle, and you receive a discount if you remember to bring the bottle back (what a great branding strategy!). Even with the discount though, two teas with boba cost $11.50. Knocked down one star because the tables were in *desperate* need of cleaning (every single one had something spilled on it) - but only one star because the shop is crazy busy. It's understandable that the workers don't have the time to escape the kitchen and squeeze between crowds to mop. If you're looking for seating, the upstairs was emptier. It's in downtown SF, so an easy enough place to stop by while exploring or running errands. I ordered the mango fresh fruit tea with tapioca pearls. It tasted great, although their shreds of fruit were a variety of sizes (some too big for the straw lol). It seemed like they were trying to emphasize how freshly cut the fruit was. The tapioca probably wasn't the right complement, but the pearls were perfect. I also tasted my friend's coffee milk tea - definitely tastes like it would give you a caffeine boost! Visiting SF, I was recommended Plentea for boba by Jason W. I went here with my girlfriend and I got the sweet taro milk while she got the ginger honey tea. Drink: Sweet taro milk. 4/5. Not super sweet. As Jason W. mentioned previously, the drink has taro pulp in it so I commend Plentea for using fresh ingredients. The tapioca is decent (read: pretty chewy, solid, though not sweet) but doesn't compare to the bubbles from KungFu Tea, which is a plentiful (haha) chain on the East Coast. My girlfriend got the the ginger honey tea (3/5), which was severely lacking in honey. Though again, they threw in fresh ginger so that is noteworthy. The vibe and decor is hipster-Asian. Lots of open wall space and bar spots to sit around the venue. They're going heavy on the glass bottle theme here, decorating the place with numerous plants in these containers. Downstairs is more of a sit and chat area while upstairs has a cozy space where you can sit and do work with the free Wi-Fi. The price is steep so I don't think I would come again to try more drinks but the complimentary glass bottle my drink came in makes it worthwhile as a one-time visit. read more

The biggest appeal to this place is sustainability, as all the drinks come with a glass bottle. Overall, the matcha latte is just okay; it is definitely slightly above average, but I have tried better in many other places such as Stonemill Matcha. The nutella milk tea is excellent in itself, as it is something that is not really found in many boba places. The syrup is somewhat like nutella syrup, but it is more bitter than sweet. The bulk of the flavor is carried in the milk tea itself, and it was pretty fragrant. However, adding boba to this is just slightly off, but it still makes a decent pairing if you were to really crave boba. The boba itself is decently soft, though they come in various sizes rather than a singular uniform size. Overall, this place is a decent place to get boba, but the glass bottles can be overkill if you were to be a regular at this place (unless, which I don't know yet since I only went there once, they allow you to bring back your bottle to "refill" a new drink). read more

I guess this isn't a store's responsibility to provide bathrooms. But for a place that has a chilling area and sells drinks & food, I would expect there to be one. Bad customer service. Plus without the cup, the total for a drink still came out to be 4.20$. And honestly, the one thing that makes this place appealing is the cup, it just annoys me that they said they ran out and I saw them. (I already had the cup, I don't need it. But to put it into perspective, the gourmet coffees and fresh-pressed juices dotted all around the neighborhood go for higher. I got the oolong crema tea which was presented quite prettily with the crema foamy and swirling on top of the tea. It tasted fresh-brewed with just the perfect amount of sweetness and cream. Two thumbs way up. Like a weirdo, I also took a picture of someone else's fresh fruit orders which also looked super refreshing. Surprisingly, Plentea has one of the best Ice milk drinkI've ever had. I ordered it w/ brown sugar and egg pudding. LOVE it!!! Very smart marketing with the glass bottles to create hype in the FiDi. Before, unless you can get there before lunch time, you won't be able to get your hands on the milk bottle and it drove me crazy. I wanted my tea and boba in a milk bottle! But now, the milk bottle is available all day errday. Finally got one today and I was satisfied. Aside from the milk bottle craze, the quality of their drinks is good. The 2 times I've been here, I got the black honey lemon tea with aloe and tapioca. It's not sweet, the perfect hint of lemon without it being too sour, the aloe jelly gave it the perfect balance of sweetness, and the tapioca was fresh and chewy. I like it. Today, Kash was having a special promotion in front of Plentea. Free drink on them if you download their app. Who am I to turn down a free drink? Otherwise, this drink would've cost me $5.00 ($4.50 for the tea, $.50 for each additional toppings. Thanks Kash!) The fresh fruit tea here is really comparable to Tpumps, but what made me like this place better was the fresh fruit bits and more options of topping add-ins other than tapioca such as aloe, lychee jelly, taro pudding, egg pudding and more. I came in around a little after they opened at 11:30am so thankfully no line at all. This was my first time here so I kinda wanted to play it safe and ended up getting what I usually order at Tpumps, which is peach green tea except I was able to add aloe and tapioca. It was really light, refreshing and I liked how the peach flavor wasn't noticeably syrupy. I also loved the bursts of freshness I'd get from biting into the aloe and fresh peach chunks. They aren't stingy with tapioca so the the boba to tea ratio is good, I ended up having leftover boba once I finished the tea. The tapioca texture could be a little softer though. My coworker recommended the brown sugar milk tea with egg pudding and tapioca, but it sounded a little daring to try for my first time. I soon regretted not getting it after trying hers. The milk tea wasn't too sweet at all and the egg pudding was a nice, soft add in. I'll probably be back to get that one. It is a pretty pricier than normal boba spots, but like most peeps said the extra is paying for the reusable glass bottle which is pretty neat. $13 sounds a lot for 2 drinks here, but I wouldn't mind having it once in awhile since I'd most likely only get it if I was around the area. One of my least favorite bubble tea shops. Their success seems to primarily come as a function of location (proximity to companies in downtown) than it is quality. The Salted Oolong is the closest they have to a unique drink that offers levels of flavor and texture with the salted foam. The other boba drinks are one-note and are just slightly better than a Quickly or powdered equivalent. Their paper straws break easily (friend had to go back for another) and are not wrapped, which means in the self serve format, it's an absolute cleanliness disaster with everyone grabbing straws out of the same bucket. read more

In fact, it's almost $5 after tax for most of their drinks +boba (Lemon Tea, Milk Tea, Fruit-Flavored Tea). For their fresh smoothies +boba, it'll run you to almost $8. If you bring their HEAVY glass bottle back, you get 20% off your next purchase. But I kept mine to use as dumbbells at home, because 20% off later, its still pricey. (tip: fill them with Gatorade to consolidate your workout space) While I'm not a big fan of Plentea's prices, I bet I'll be coming here again and again. I often spot people walking around the Chinatown/financial district area with these stylish milk-jar glass bottles filled with milk tea and boba. They are definitely eye-catchers and good marketing tools because it made me curious about where everyone was getting this fancy-looking boba drink. Now every time I carry around a glass, I get asked all the time about where it's from. They're pretty, which I give credit for, because, you know, we eat with our eyes too. The drink itself is good-- just good and above average. Their standard is not too sweet, so it's not one of those places where you have to ask for less sugar every time. I can taste the freshness in their tea, but it sometimes has a slight bitterness to it, like over-steeped tea. Their boba is consistently tasty and delectably chewy. Did you say boba? Last time I was in the Bay I had to try the famous Boba Guys. This time around my must stop boba visit was Plentea. They have a really cute storefront-- it's pretty narrow but they have an upstairs loft where customers can lounge for a bit with their drinks. The menu includes classic milk teas, fruit milk teas made with real fruit, blended milk tea, and iced teas plus a small assortment of small plates that range from sweet waffles to fried fish balls. They also have a specials board with rotating seasonal teas and offerings. I immediately went for one of their specials: sea salt cream oolong tea. Sea salt cream is my absolute favorite but not many tea houses carry it, so when I see it I have to order it. My girlfriends ordered the black milk tea and the almond milk tea. We all added boba, of course! The sea salt cream oolong tea was good but not the best I've had. I really liked that the tea wasn't overly sweet and I could really taste that distinct oolong profile, but the sea salt cream wasn't well balanced. It leaned a bit too much on the salty side and the consistency could have been more on the meringue side rather than melty. If you love sea salt cream, you know what I mean. I tried my friends' drinks and they were good but nothing to write home about it. Though major points for not being drenched in sugar; I hate it when tea house do that. The cute glass jars can go home with you or can be recycled with the shop which I thought was really cool for those of us that have an abundance of cutesy mason jars from other foodie adventures (guilty!). Plentea doesn't charge extra for the glass bottles like most places do, and I like how they get customers to reuse the bottles (eco-friendly!) with incentives. That being said, the price for drinks is kind of pricey for the amount of drink (compared to normal bbt cups). So, I guess prices might already be marked up for those bottles? I tried their black milk tea, and was kind of disappointed. Like another Yelper said, it tasted kind of chocolate-y. Not like black milk tea at all. On a second visit though, I tried their honey lemon black tea.. and that was much better! They actually topped it with three slices of lemon. Definitely think it's a hit or miss depending on the drink you choose, and what your preference is. So nice to have a boba place near union square! Love the fresh fruit milk drinks here, I see them cutting up the fruit just for my drink! It IS very pricey, my honeydew fruit milk cost almost $6 and, let's be honest..No milk tea should cost that much. Extra cost for a glass bottle, which I didn't opt for. You CAN adjust the level of sweetness here :-) Thumbs up for that! Nice clean interior, wish it was cheaper. But it's yummy and satisfies my sweet tooth twice over. I'm not a huge fan of this place. I ended up going because I wanted the glass bottle.. but beyond that novelty, there's really no reason in going. The first time I went, my friend and I both felt like hot milk teas before we thought about our experience and realized that hot drinks are not served in glass bottles. The hot milk tea was actually not bad. Nothing stand out, but not bad. Still insanely expensive though. Was about $4.50 for one. The second time I went, I was determined to do it right, so I got a pearl milk tea. First of all... at $5.44 who has the money for milk tea that expensive??? I'd rather go down the street and at least get high quality pmt from Boba Guys or something. I get that part of that money is paying for the bottle, but when the milk tea is really mediocre, $5.44 is ridiculous. Honestly it tasted like $1 pmt you can get in Richmond. Tea itself was very dilute and flavorless and the pearls were clumpy--i.e. you'd bite down and find your teeth stuck. No bounce at all, no flavor. At least I got a bottle out of all of this? I will say they have some interesting dessert options, so if a friend ever wants to try the place... I might go back and give the dessert a shot. Also $10 minimum for credit card. tldr; inflated reviews because they market well; bottle is pretty cool and I'm glad I got one, but definitely not a fan of their tea, especially at that price. read more

They have a decent variety of fruity flavors and kinds of drinks here. But the drinks are sooo expensive????? In my opinion, anything above $4 for a regular-sized drink (without boba!) is pretty expensive and the drinks here are at least $4.50 on average. I see that they serve their drinks in glass milk bottles, but my friends and I went later in the afternoon, so we didn't get them. I think I could justify paying more for the bottle, but otherwise $5 just for a boba-less drink is far too much. Anyways, I got peach milk with honey boba. It was pretty meh; I have DEFINITELY had better. I mean it was literally just blended up frozen peaches...with milk. The honey boba was nice, soft, and sweet though. I forget what my friends got, but they seemed to enjoy their drinks. They have a small lounge area upstairs, but there seems to be no air conditioning up there so it was a little stuffy. Service was fine and the drinks came out quickly. HONESTLY, you should just walk over to Union Square where Boba Guys is, in my opinion. Higher quality tea and drinks, more limited menu but also more affordable than Plentea. They also have cute glass jars for their drinks too! read more

DRINKS IN CUTE JARS! Great way to attract people, right? It's totally INSTAGRAMABLE worthy! :) I love the look of the jar and the toppings that float around inside! I would even save the jars! I ordered the green milk tea with honey jelly. There is nothing too special about the milk tea, so next time I'll give an update on the fruit drinks! My drink was $4.50 which is pretty pricy for milk tea but I'm sure I paid for the jar more than the tea. They don't accept credit card transactions less than $15 so bring money! However, the worker was nice enough to let me use card even though I ordered one drink... He knew I was a first timer! The place is pretty clean and looks new... A cool spot to hangout with a friend during lunch. Although if says Chinatown, it's in the financial district so goodluck finding parking or not getting into thick traffic around 5 during the weekday. For $5+ for a drink, it's nice that you get to keep the glass bottle as a souvenir. Tried the Lavender Lemonade w/ lychee jelly and it was ok. It was more of a lemon spritzer than a lemonade. Very bubbly w/ specks of lavender at the bottom. The jelly itself wasn't overly sweet but did add texture. read more

Love this place! Everything is on point from the workers to the tea to the ambiance. Who hasn't seen the super cute plentea glass bottles? I had to see if this place lived up to the hype. There was plentea of people waiting in line that's for sure. To be honest I really only came for the bottle because I mean who doesn't like cute bottles? I ordered the Oolong Milk Tea. Normally when I try a new boba place I always order Milk Tea to determine if I like it or not. Unfortunately it didn't meet my standards. It tasted more like milk and sugar instead. Also it wasn't really worth waiting in line for 20 minutes then waiting another 10 for our drinks. I'll probably come by another time when it's less busy and try some other drinks. read more
