First off, this place is family owned, so they care. My friend drives all the way from Mountain View because he 'likes the place.' It is laid back. I have had many of their drinks and I love almost all of them. I usually have a yummy croissant and my friend has a Gluten-Free option. The ways he inhales his food, it must be good. Expensive but what were you expecting when it's near Hillsborough? Very good food and seating and friendly staff. Charming vibe. People who come with their own board games and buy food still get charged. It's $5 for the 2nd hour and $2 for the 3rd hour. So each of us got charged $7 even though we each spent over $25 apiece on food and drink. We agreed to go somewhere else like Game Kastle RWC to play our games in public. The charge to play board games is arguably worth it if you are playing and learning some of their available library games. Parking is metered. Expect to feed the meter every two hours. Only .25 cents per 30 minutes so a minor annoyance. MY GRADE: C plus to B minus (B to B plus for the overall vibe) read more

I've been here twice, once for a mixer and another to share the experience with the hubby. The staff have been friendly and helpful each time. This place gives off a casual feel with a little fancy flare. You can come here with friends and family to hang out and play a game from their wall of fun. I haven't tried their food yet, but the drinks have been pretty good. The Mont Blanc was recommended and it did not disappoint. I've been back specifically for that drink. It's an elevated cold brew with a deliciously crafted cold foam sprinkled with orange zest. The zest alone gave it a beautiful aroma and flavor. It kind of reminded me of chocolate dipped oranges. As for the Blue matcha, the oatmilk was a bit overpowering and I don't know if I'd order that again. Although again it's beautifully crafted. The new cafe just opened 2 weeks ago. The concept is a board game cafe where you can have coffee, food, and a play board game with friends and families. It is a good-size shop with the second floor, which will be opened later. It feels nice to be in the shop. The menu is simple it is mostly for breakfast and brunch/lunch. You order at the cashier, and they will deliver the order to your table. We order latte, afogato thunderspeaker, and avocado toast. They are good. The latte is hot enough. We stopped here thrice while visiting my large adult son and his wife in Burlingame! It's my large adult son's new favorite place in the area. Nestled on a friendly, walkable street, this little cafe is warm and inviting from the moment one walks in. I was impressed by a beautifully carved table the owner said was left behind by the previous owner. We ate lunch on the 4th of July while playing the games "Love Letter" (which I still don't understand, lol) and "Insider." My husband and I both had a chicken croissant sandwich that was very yummy, along with a poached egg. My large adult son had a mushroom and fontina toast sandwich and a poached egg, which he said was delicious. My son's latte was decorated with a lovely design. The cafe offered a special red, white, and blue matcha drink for the 4th of July, which several members of my family ordered. I had a taste: delicious. The special drink was $7. In addition to sandwiches and other menu items, there is a cooler with drinks and offerings such as "overnight ghia oats and yogurt," "chia pudding," and "housemade granola yogurt parfait," all of which looked delicious. My only criticism is the 4th was a VERY warm day - during a heat wave in the peninsula- and the cafe was quite toasty. A few strategically placed fans would have been welcome. However, the heat is a rarity, so it is probably not often an issue. The cafe has an entire wall of games to choose from. Rates are $7 per person during the day and $10 in the evenings. Those rates are good for 2 hours. There is also a free box of games for one hour. One evening we stopped by and played "Abducktion". This is a game where you use strategy to move little plastic ducks around. The cafe is a great place to try out new games! The owners and workers are charming. The cafe is clean, with a large, well-stocked restroom. The seating is plentiful and comfortable, and cute game pieces decorate the tables. After having walked by Plucky's a few times, I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. It's similar to many cafes you see around Burlingame, but it has an inviting vibe where you're encouraged to play games, chat, and gather with friends. The interesting concept is around the games feature where you pay $7/person for 1 hour to play any of the many board games they have in the cafe. The decor is lovely with a modern, Scandinavian vibe that many European cafes have. However, the seating is not as comfortable as they look. Maybe it's their way of not wanting you to stay too long I ordered the matcha latte & salmon toast. Yummy The salmon with cucumbers hidden underneath were fresh and full of flavor. Yay! A new and novel cafe in the neighborhood. I've had lunch and breakfast here and the quality of the food and service are outstanding. I arrived a few minutes after the croissants came out of the oven, the Americano was perfectly brewed and not watery like some of the big brand purveyors of coffee. I loveeee this cafe so much! The coffee is always great, and the food is so tasty but never makes me feel gross or bloated like other places do--it's clearly high quality and really well made. So allot enough time if you're coming during prime meal times! *Experience: Grab a table, order via QR code, and pick your games! We got here at 9AM on a Saturday and it was not busy at all. We were probably the only ones playing board games that early while everyone else was enjoying their coffees and pastries. You can order everything via the QR code and then return your used cups/plates at the designated area. During our 2hrs, we were able to play 2 games - one complicated strategic game (1.25hrs) and one quick game (.75hrs). Time sure flies when you're having fun! *Food: My husband and I shared the special beef sandwich and it was delicious! I also got the einspanner while he got the blue matcha. Cute cafe for a peaceful Sunday morning with lots of light shining through. Not too crowded but still had foot traffic which was nice. The drinks were yummy! Tokyo Fog had a pinch of pandan which showed through but the matcha wasn't that strong in flavor. I was a huge fan of the latte sunkeeper which had a hue of citrus. It was not too sweet or lacking in flavor. The breakfast burrito was hearty, cheesy, and delicious! I was here last year when they opened and I recall the barista was very proud of the place, and made an excellent espresso. I came back this year a few days ago and was deeply disappointed. Good points: The croissant was very good; not bready and doughy like most you get at cafes but crisp on the outside and good flavor. Bad points: I'll admit that I'm fussy, but I ordered a macchiato. I like my macchiato's the way they're supposed to be made: A small bit of foam on top of the espresso. They made it the way most coffee shops make it: A liquidy foam poured on top of the espresso so that it's essentially a mini-latte. First of all, I hate the taste of milk. When made right, you don't taste the milk, but you taste a wonderfully carmel-like espresso. With milk/foam filling the cup to the brim, you taste only the milk, and a hint of coffee coming from somewhere. It had a little heart shape on top. I don't care about the artwork; I care about the taste. Baristas should learn the proper way to make a macchiato. Unfortunately, Starbuck's has set the trend for drinks that are mostly milk, and the result is a public who demands it. My daughter's Matcha also had too much milk and she complained that all she could taste was the milk. I was hoping for a cafe that took pride in their craft, as the barista who I met last year did. Now it's just like most other cafes, which is to say, mediocre. read more

This was our first time coming to Plucky's Cafe. We stood off to the side to look at the menu, but I felt we were rushed to order even though we came before 3:30pm (they close at 4pm). The iced oat chai latte was okay. The tiramisu einspanner was $9 and very small. Flavor wise, just tasted like a creamy espresso. I was also confused that I was charged $1 for oatmilk for the tiramisu einspanner and $0.75 for oatmilk for the much larger iced oat chai latte. I didn't realize the difference in the charges until after I paid, but I didn't want to bring it up to the woman who probably didn't have the patience to explain it to me anyway. In terms of the food, my boyfriend said the chicken sandwich was good. The mushroom and fontina toast that I ordered surprisingly lacked flavor as it was pretty bland. I heard this cafe was new, and it had really good reviews which is why we came to try it out. Overall, I wouldn't recommend coming until they work out some kinks since they are new. I also think some of the menu items are overpriced for what they are. To end on a positive note, I will say that it was pretty packed when we came in, and the vibes were nice. The cafe is larger than I thought it would be, and it was clean with ample seating. If you're in the Burlingame area there are a lot of different cafe options to explore that are amazing. If you choose to come here, I hope your experience is better than ours. read more
