I love Plum Market! It's got a vibe I enjoy much more than Whole Foods, and this location is very convenient. Great wine selection, staff with great cheese knowledge and yummy, yummy prepared foods. Why not 5 stars? It's hard to find a decent parking spot (I don't mind at all in the summer, but dang, it's so cold and awful this winter!). Also, selection can be hit or miss. Plum earns three starts for their wine section alone. It's great. The staff is helpful. They have a wide ranging of prices, etc. Other than that, it's not a place you'd do your regular shopping. The produce section is much worse than it would at first appear to be, meat/fish aren't as good as other places in town. They have some great products that you can't find elsewhere though. The local Plum Market in Ann Arbor is a real plus for the area. Granted, they are expensive in general, but when they place items on sale, they do a good job..and the items themselves...are always top quality higher-end products. If you are shopping for wine...this is the place. Domestics and imports...there's a huge display and sale priced well. I look for the sales, plenty of opportunities to try new wines, but the old reliables, whether from France, Italy, Spain, etc., are always there within every budget. read more

This place is awesome! It is very clean and neat, the employees are nice, and you can find practically anything you want, especially if it's a specialty item. Some of their prices seemed a little steep, but they have one-of-a-kind items and a great selection. The to-go foods section was phenomenal, and they even had a cute little chocolate shop area. And the beer and wine section...wow! You can probably find anything you are looking for, seriously, it's huge! They also have a great selection of coffee, and it you like Sweetwaters coffee, it is sold here as well. Actually, I saw a few of their brews sold here that I didn't see at their stores. When we were shopping for a house in Ann Arbor our realtor took us to Plum. I have to admit that I was impressed on that first visit. Then again, I was living in Downtown Detroit and had to do my shopping at the Kroger in Allen Park on my way home from the office on weeknights OR make a special trip on the weekend. Upon moving to Ann Arbor I didn't have a set plan as far as grocery stores - I figured we'd join the co-op in Kerrytown or find a locally-owned spot (we use Arbor Farms). I didn't ever see myself doing all my shopping at Plum, although I'm sure some people do, but it did seem like a great spot to get things that you might not find elsewhere or a place to pick up things before entertaining. I go to Plum a few times a month but more in the summer months because they have fun stuff for the grill and their fresh veggies are super-fresh. I also pop in for soup sometimes, because they do have good soup. A few times I've gotten food from their hot bar but it's often way too picked over to be appetizing. The salad bar, after a fresh stocking, is awesome. The cold salads have a variety of flavors and inspirations and you can usually find something for even the pickiest of eaters. I use Plum as more of a takeout place than a grocer -- ready-made sandwiches and other meals are good, they have a bakery/deli/Swirlberry, I love the selection of flowers. But, all in all, it's pricey and pretentious but, there are a few good things: 1. Really fresh produce 2. Great ready-made stuff (though the hot bar can be a little sketchy) 3. Olive bar 4. Awesome artisanal cheeses 5. Great beer/wine selection I come here before entertaining to pick up flowers for the table, funky things to serve for finger food and occassionally pop in to indulge my need for australian licorice. Expensive but good

This is such a great little market. It's like the baby of Whole Foods w/ a little more of a homey feeling. The wine selection is very nice with a couple guys back there to help you pick things out. The lady in the vitamins area was also super helpful and knowledgable. I could easily pass hours away walking around this place. I could also easily spend lots and lots of money at this place. That's the main issue - the cost is definitely up there. But it's really about the same as other specialty markets, so it's what I expected. I don't much like the parking lot - especially when it's raining. It's a little "scattered", and close parking is limited. Overall great little market. Oh, and if you want a coffee at Zingerman's (attached), check in on Yelp and you get a little free-bee. Plum Market is clean and well organized. It looks and smells just like Whole Foods, almost. I was a little disappointed with the customer service. After making eye contact with a number of employees, I was ignored. Not even a greeting! I understand that the prices are high because they sell quality products, but they should also focus on their customer service. There's plenty of seating to eat your hot meals in the store. The candy selection is a little small, but they have agave gummy bears! There were short lines for the sandwiches at 8pm, a little after the dinner rush. read more

I very rarely go to Plum Market even though it's closer to my house than Whole Foods, but after stopping in last night for some guacamole and a bottle of wine, I may change my mind. Their beer and wine selection is just KILLER. The array of non-alcoholic beverages is also dizzying and wonderful. However, I can tell you they were charging about $2 more for one of my favorite wines than any other place I've purchased it. The homemade guac I bought was very good. This is a very aesthetically pleasing store, although I find it maybe a bit cramped. Also, I loathe their parking lot. So, we'll see what happens. I still think Whole Foods has a better selection and I think I like going there more than Plum, but I was impressed enough by my visit last night that I think I'll give them a try on my next grocery outing. The Bo and I have been on a mission to get us some Mead (honey wine). We tried the Huckleberry Liquor Store (they had two different brands), & Whole Foods on Eisenhower (carried just B.Nektar). We decided to hit up Plum Market to see if they would have more of a variety of mead and they do! Their wine selection is just amazing. What an awesome place to pick up a wine after work to unwind, or for a dinner party! They have a great variety of beers and ales too! We definitely got a bit distracted on our way to find mead. We saw Malbac bottles 2 for $11! Some Cote Du Rhone wine for $5.88! A very helpful Plum Market worker showed us where there Mead section was and we were happy to see at least 4-5 different brands. We picked up a Nordic mead called Viking Blod, and next time we want to try the B. Nektar's Plum honey wine, especially made for Plum Market. read more

Absolutely love Plum Market. You can certainly find great deals on booze and food. My favorite is the La Vielle Ferme Rose and at $5.97 a bottle you cannot find it cheaper anywhere in the City. They also have a great soup and salad bar and their sushi holds its own in comparison to other local grocery stores. You may not be able to find some basic staples you're looking for since they're pretty much organic but they have great food. read more

Plum market has a great selection of wines and natural or organic food. This little market is great to just pick up a few items or in my case, get a bottle of wine as a gift. Definitely do the coupons and the UM ID as much as possible and join their rewards club. You'll get extra coupons and $10 off for every $500 spent. Went to plum market for the first time a couple of months ago (been lazy in getting to my review), partly to get some groceries, but mostly to get a quick bite to eat for dinner with their pre-made food choices. Therefore, in all fairness you can take this as more of a review of their food options rather than as a grocery store. Your choices include fresh pizza from a wood burning oven, hot food prepared and served on a bar and sold by the pound, or a salad and soup bar, both also sold by the pound. Overall the food was fine - probably better than average in taste and ingredient quality. The choices were generally varied, although I found the salad bar to not be as varied as the other sections, and some of the hot food bar choices were rather uninspired (onion rings anyone?). All of this would have been just fine if it wasn't for the price: $9/lb. For that kind of going rate, I expect more. Based on that, skip the lettuce greens and french fries, and load up on more imaginative fare. At least that way you will get closer to getting your money's worth. read more

Plum Market is one of my favorites for fresh fruit with samples, sushi, salad bar, croissants see inside. THe yave many organic products and bulk quinoa and large containers of almond milk. I randomly decided to get the groupon for plum market a couple of days ago. I had heard good things about the market, so I decided to give it a try. It does remind me a lot of whole foods, and I like it because the store is like a local version of the chain. but it is still pretty pricey. I have to agree, if you are a foodie, it's a great place to go. I have to give them one plug: they have an impressive collection of imported goods. They had my favorite italian chocolate (kinder bueno) and also a decent sized british foods section with wheatabix. I don't think I'd go here every week for my grocery shopping. But I'd def come back when I wanted a treat. Also, I am pretty excited to try some local Michigan cheddar cheese. Thanks for the previous reviewer(s) who said to keep an eye out for local foods. Finally, we had to stop by swirlberry. We are pinkberry and froyo fans. It was very good. I haven't yet found a fro yo place was as good tart fro you as pinkberry, but this place was pretty good. We got a small pomengranate with mochi, choco chips and mangoes and it was pretty darn good. So all in all, I'd def go here again. It was pricey, but perhaps a good place to go if you're looking to treat yourself. read more

This review is based mostly on customer service. I have always liked plum market despite their very steep prices, which makes it almost inaccessible for most people. But their selection for specialty items and produce is exceptional. Today I had to run in to grab a few items and a birthday card, I was in a huge hurry which wasn't their fault, but I asked if they do cash back because I needed a $20 to pay my sons instructor. I have never asked for or gotten cash back before, so I wasn't sure if I needed to push a different button, so I asked the checkout girl, who was polite enough and she said they don't do cash back, so I asked if they could break $100 and the guy bagging my groceries very rudely said no they can't do that, which is ridiculous(also, I was spending over $100 on my purchase.) So when I was done I asked if there was customer service and it turned out the grocery bagger was also the customer service at their make shift customer service desk. I asked if he could break the $100 there and he also said no to that. He wasn't polite or apologetic about it, he was just plain rude. So they should probably get someone else to handle their customer service. I don't usually shop at that plum market I go to the one on Plymouth rd, where I have never had a problem. If I go into a store expecting an exceptional level of quality I also expect an exceptional level of service. read more

Why are most things have the intention of being fabulous in OVERRRATED Ann Arbor, always seem to miss the point. This is a primary example. The hot bar is a bunch of fried foods, do you know how quick fried foods die on a hot bar and become soggy mush? A hot bar should have house made delicious offerings like slow cooked beef brisket or creamy mac & cheese, not an appetizer item from Chili's that someone smokin out back forgot to run to the table. What is up with the signage in this place? Could you please put a few more items on the placards in the aisles. Gee, I want doritos and deodorant in the same place, makes for easy access to essentials I guess. It always seems like I am on a search for EVERYTHING here. At least @ Whole Foods there is usually anyone on the floor to assist. I will give them credit on wine deals, Michigan items and the cheese selection is not bad except there are only HUGE pieces cut, need to work on more reasonable sizes. I know the "Aldi" crowd won't shop here because of prices, but if you can brave the parking lot @ WHOLE FOODS ON WASHTENAW (Go early or late), they have much better quality, service and better prices and WILL TAKE PLUM COUPONS you get in the mail, no questions asked... read more

Plum Market has excellent food for which I would easily give a 5-star rating if money were no object. But their prices make Whole Foods (Whole Paycheck) look reasonable. While there are some unique things here that other places don't have, the terrible parking, poor produce selection, crowded aisles and rude staff make it too much of a pain to come here. Plum Market presents itself as a high end grocery store, and while it may not make much sense to pay 25-50% more for the same quality groceries, its a niche store for a niche market. If you're looking for speciality goods, you may indeed find what you're looking for at Plum Market that you couldn't at Whole Foods, Meijer or Kroger. What draws me to Plum Market is the occasional 10-15% off coupons that I find with my weekly grocery advertisements and when used on their sale items, I actually end up getting a pretty good deal. Also, the pro tip that not many AA residents know is that they leave out a table of bakery items every night at 8pm where you can find items that range from Avalon bread to Zingerman cakes to Achatz half pies all half off. I remember when the old fox theater closed and plum market came to be (in Ann Arbor). I have some mixed feelings about this place. The serious positive feelings I have come from the meat/seafood section. I don't eat meat from most places anymore, but when I did, the Brooklyn burger was a MUST. The hot bar is delicious, the pure protein salad next to the pizza kitchen is one of my favorites, when i used to drink the wine was fantastic and the wine dude knew his way around wine and a glass of that fine chamagna and the zingerman's and swirl berry cafe is a nice wind down snack spot. That being said... I DO have my problems here. They seldom honor their sale signs. When you find a mistake, do NOT call before taking it back. They scramble to take down the signs. Then lie about it. I have had employees to admit it. Weird. The hot bar is kind of expensive even though its yummy. A lot of things are doubled the price here than they are at other local grocery stores too. When you go to ring up, watch any fruits and veggies you get that aren't organic. Sometimes they assume everything is organic, though they have gotten somewhat better about this. Other than that, they cool. Despite some flaws, ill be back. There's so many quality products and its so convenient. read more

Strange praise for a grocery store, but I am a big fan of the plum market music. I am also a huge fan of coupons, and the 10 percent off your purchase coupons are plentiful at this place, plus lots of other specials. I really like how plum market is laid out and they often have some of my favorite foods on special (FAGE yogurt for $1). Also, this place, oddly enough, has the cheapest wine in town. I was at the Meijer and my favorite white wine was selling for $21, then at the Kroger and it was selling for $25... but at Plum it was $18. The wine guy is very knowledgeable and makes great suggestions. The market is on the pricey side for a lot of other items, like most produce and cheese and prepared food. I'm not really sure why anyone would go out of there way to shop at Plum. It's prices are as high as Wholefood's are, but the products aren't as good of quality. Also, it has some of the more common items, that you could get at Krogers or Busch, but the prices are worse. It seems like it's stuck in between these two types of markets, but has the bad aspects of each and none of the good aspects. It has high prices like Wholefoods and artificial flavors, hydrogenated oils and GMO produce like Krogers. Plum isn't a terrible market but I just don't see where the appeal is. read more

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this store from the beginning, probably because I don't dig spending $14.95 on a pack of toilet paper or $22.00 on a miniscule bag of pet food. The store does have it's perks, however - they boast a very impressive wine selection and carry certain items that I haven't found anywhere else. They may also have Cherokee hair tampons in stock, but don't quote me on that as I've never asked or checked. I'm also a sucker for the twinkly lights on the storefront, as I love to revel in such an aesthetically pleasing sight right before I drop $1,200 on my groceries. Thank you for A++ Customer Service! On the afternoon of Friday 01/07/22 I went shopping with my 85yo grandmother, whom I was visiting from out of state. Every team member we encountered was patient and personable and took an extra moment to chat with my Grandma. She lives alone and grocery shopping is one of the only times she connects with folks in these pandemic times, so the kindness they showed is extra impactful. It breaks my heart that she normally runs errands alone, and seeing the support that she was offered gives me tremendous peace of mind. Extra thanks go out to the wonderful gal (a floor manager maybe? I'm sorry I didn't catch your name!) who found us an extra N95 when Grandma's broke, and to the wonderful cashier in the MSU beanie- she loved chatting with you both and told me so! Retail is so hard, and the pandemic is so brutal... please know that y'all made our day and we are very grateful to you all for the experience! I live within walking distance of the newer Whole Foods at the corner of Ann Arbor-Saline and Eisenhower Parkway, but I will still get in my car and drive to Plum Market to shop. Plum Market is a Michigan-specific store, and in light of the state's rough economic times, I do think it's important to buy Michigan products. Whole Foods: not Michigan specific. One of Plum Market's platforms is that it generally wants to have lower prices than Whole Foods, and I think that Plum Market generally succeeds at this. I think that overall, there are more things on special at Plum Market than at Whole Foods on any given day (especially since Whole Foods likes to trick people into thinking that things are on special by putting a big sign in front of something when that's really just the regular price). I've also noticed that the prices on most things are comparable to those at Whole Foods if not lower. The one thing both Plum market and Whole Foods sell that is more expensive at Plum Market is Wallaby yogurt (which I eat everyday). But on the flip side, I've also noticed that Kerrygold Butter is always $2.99 at Plum Market which is the sale price of it at Whole Foods where it normally sells for over $4. Do I think that some things are more expensive at Plum Market? Yes. But overall, I think it's still less expensive than Whole Foods. Besides, Whole Foods doesn't have any sort of frequent shopper club like Plum Market does now. I also never get coupons in the mail (or by email) from Whole Foods to give me $5 off $25, $10 off of $50, or $20 off of $100. So even if you think that Plum Market is slightly more expensive than Whole Foods, the coupons can probably help compensate for it. And, yes, you can get a 5% discount for showing a valid UMich student ID. I also find Plum Market to be more aesthetically pleasing than Whole Foods (I think it's because of the lighting), and I find it easier to navigate. The best deal at Plum Market is at 8 pm every night when a good chunk of their baked goods section goes on special. I believe Zingerman's baked goods go to 1/2 off and other items go to $1, but the last time I went, I only got charged $1 per Zingerman's item. And, let's face it, who's going to complain about that? read more

This is my favorite grocery store and we travel from Lansing to Ann Arbor at least once a month - usually twice - to get groceries here. Yes, it is a little more pricey, but with their selections it's a foodie heaven and whenever I go here I don't have to run around the state or order as many specialty items on the Internet. On this past trip I even happened upon Scharffen Berger bittersweet chocolate for baking. I've always had to order it before as I've never found it in a grocery store with the exception of AJ's in Scottsdale AZ and seeing I live in Michigan, that doesn't do me much good! Homemade local ricotta and mozzerella, Zingerman's breads/pastries, Calder Dairy milk (BIG fan of milk in glass bottles...it tastes different), a phenominal selection of wines, which are beyond reasonably priced, very large selection of local and organic products (local grass fed beef). They also sell (you have to ask for them) Parmigiano=Reggiano rinds - which if you make your own red sauce - makes a fanatastic edition while it's simmering, as well as the ends to the prosciutto - also excellent for cooking various Italian fare. Beautiful store, fantastic looking produce but the prices are insane. I have a lot of allergies and if I am looking for something specific as an alternative than look no further. This place had as many choices for vegan ice cream as a Walmart does for soda but you pay the price for this service. I can say although I'm shocked and in awe with all the choices I will not be back. I felt very out of place, the clientele was stuck up and like I said before- the prices do not justify any of the perks. I enjoy the finer things in life but I also work for my money and will go back to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. read more

I prefer Plum to WholeFoods because it is way less overwhelming but still manages to pull together a lot of good food under one roof. There are still some good deals to be found in the sale section when you walk in the front door, but overall the prices are exorbitant (ie bulk oatmeal...how can you justify almost .50 cents a pound more than at already expensive arbor farms?? or worse, $5 a pound rhubarb when even the the PFC has it for $3?). The produce selection is nice, but they are always putting everything away when I go, which I find obnoxious. Is the store closed? No? Okay, let me peruse the swiss chard at my leisure then! The baked goods sale after 8pm is a good deal, but unfortunately the plum market bread isn't very good. The meat counter is pretty to look at, but they don't carry grass fed beef or cuts of bison (these are relegated to a teensy section of the pre-packed cooler). All that being said, the store has a nice ambiance, helpful staff, a smart layout, and nice, quality selections of everything they carry, so I still keep going back. read more
