I definitely wouldn't go with PODs again. While it's a cool idea and seems like it's going to be easy it turned out not to be that great or simple. For what you get it's super expensive and not as convenient as they'd lead you to believe. When the driver dropped our POD off he was very worried/seemed uncomfortable about unloading it where we lived. If they have some kind of restrictions they should say in advance.. my boyfriend pretty much had to convince the guy to put our POD down at all. He wanted to put it down the street which would have really sucked. When our POD was dropped off for us in LA everything went fine but what they don't tell you is that PODs is much busier up here in the Bay area and that they might try to leave your POD with you for weeks, even if it's empty! We needed ours picked up ASAP once it was unloaded because it was blocking a drive way we share with our new neighbors. PODs told us we'd have to wait almost 2 weeks for them to come get it! This was completely unacceptable and after speaking with several representatives and sitting on the phone for quite awhile it got cleared up. Basically you had to get a person who was willing to call the facility over and over again until someone would pick up the phone and agree to get the POD within 4 days instead of 14. I don't really want to deal with a company where I have to get people on the inside "on my side" just to get good service. I was very grateful to the representative who helped get the POD picked up in a timely manner but yeah, I wouldn't go with them again. read more

I was told at time of scheduling I would be able to call 24hrs prior to delivery of pod container to my new location. Called today and nothing is available until April 1st and we need to be out of our current house by the 30th. Otherwise the customer service rep was really nice. If I could give them half a star I would. 1) The driver placed the POD over my lawn and then refused to move it a) I had a full two feet of space on one side that he could have used and he refused to do so. b) I had a full five feet of space in front of the POD and he refused to move the mod that direction 2) The driver took off, without even a goodbye..just drove away... how professional 3) When I called to complain, the Customer Service rep informed me that they would not move the POD and that I had signed a waiver stating that I OK'd the position; but here is the rub...they had me sign the waiver BEFORE they placed the POD. So they could have put it on the F'n Moon and I would have had to take it. 4) When I asked if they would come pick it up they said that I would have to wait 2 days before they could pick it up. No way that they could just send the driver back? Really? So... my choice now is to delay my kitchen project or use their dumb POD. Heck of a business model they have PS. I am actually moving across the country for the third time. The first two times I used UPack and this time I used POD. Overall its been a good experience but with this move its a long time between when I left my home and when I get my stuff. I left Colorado on 12/28, they picked up the POD on 12/29 but I am not going to get my stuff until 1/11. Last time I put an Airtag in the POD so I knew I could track it across the country. I did it again and I can see my stuff only 30 min away from home. But its going to take two more days to get their. Now I don't know about you but that is driving me crazy. I really want my stuff and have tried asking them if we can push up the delivery date. No luck at this point. I tried going to their website to leave this feedback. No such luck as there is no way. In this day in age where you can track deliveries it would seem that they should consider that. Especially since I can track it without them. When the guy delivered the pod, he lifted the pod up but then instead of moving it over he TIPPED IT UPSIDE DOWN. Which resulted in so many items being ruined and broken. Had lots of antique wooden items that are busted. He knew what he did was wrong once it happened and said "would you like to look at the stuff inside?" When I filed a complaint to PODS (this was April 2022) we talked to a woman on the phone who said it would probably look like about $5000 in damages. Then after emailing proof back and forth they FINALLY decided to close the case (took 7 months!) and give absolutely no compensation saying we signed away our rights and they aren't liable. I have yet been hit again with great disappointment.... today I find that PODS has charged me AGAIN... I am at this point beyond disgusted... I was overcharged beyond the highest amount of any price I was quoted... Denied any discount I was promised... Charged a FULL months rent for a pod I am not going to have... a POD that surely will be re-rented again at full price...in a day or two!! That is theft from the consumer... (me).... They lost my business forever, terrible company, terrible customer service! If i could give a negative review I would. Moving to a new location within 50 miles of my old home. POD showed up in window for drop off and initial pick up, but after moving in and needing my property, the delivery of my POD was nothing less than terrible. Was to receive my POD on a Friday between 12-3pm. So I waited because I had friends over to help make the move, and nothing, no call, not text, no email. 3pm came and went and still nothing. Called customer service just to wait 20 min, get the run around and get hung up on. Called back and talked to Jay who assured me my delivery would still happen before 5 or maybe 6, he was not sure how long they were delivering. I was told to call back after 6 if they did not show up. Frustrated I called back the following morning to be put on hold another 30 minutes. Talked to the same woman that hung up on me the first time to see when my 'new' delivery window will be. I was told 'It was canceled for some reason'. WTF! Apparently this company runs itself because there are NO managers that will interact with customers, or anyone to speak to since the customer service people are clueless. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! I have had a terrible experience with PODS. Our request for pick up was canceled. On three separate occasions, we placed "special" requests with customer service for the pod to be picked up and then found out the request was never placed. We would have done this on our own on the website but the website said we couldn't schedule it online and instead had to call. The pod was scheduled to be picked up and delivered within a few weeks of it leaving our apartment, we were then told it would take 2 weeks to be picked up and an entire month to have the pod delivered. I will never recommend PODS to anyone unless this is fixed. read more

Upgrading to 2 stars, based on a couple of small mitigating factors. 1) Throughout this entire ridiculous ordeal, Charles B was surprisingly mild-mannered and professional, even when I freaked out after finding out that our POD had gone across country without our knowledge. He was so even-keeled that I actually felt a bit bad about the way I treated him initially. HOWEVER, this does not negate the fact that he tried to get me to do something unethical, and possibly illegal (see original review for those details). 2) PODS managed to find a workaround to get my POD back into California, without my actually having to do anything unethical (or possibly illegal). 3) They gave me a credit for one month's rent to compensate me for my inconvenience. I appreciated this gesture. Would I use PODS again? Honestly, no. The fact that they don't have some kind of double-check to prevent POD mix-ups like this one doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. I also tend to think that if they hadn't needed that agricultural form signed for the State of California, they wouldn't have even told me about the mix-up. They would've just brought my POD back to the point of origination, and I would've been none the wiser. I would've been left wondering why my possessions were such a mess when I emptied my POD, and they probably would've just shrugged. Next time, I'll just get an actual storage unit. PODs cancelled the move pickup the night before it was to occur. They did not call to inform me of this cancellation. They charged my account for the $2287.26 for the move, though. Imagine my surprise when I called to schedule final delivery to find my container with all my furniture, supplies, books and memories sat 800 miles away! Things go wrong at the best of times, let alone during a pandemic, so some slack is due. However when I called to resolve this, the agent gave me the standard run-around: "It wasn't ever scheduled." She claimed, despite my email confirmation stating otherwise. "Nothing's on the account." Despite the -$2287.26 charge writ large on my credit card. It was a nightmare to deal with customer service. Horrible service. My son moved from Palo Alto to Brooklyn in June, pod was picked up May 30, shipped to Brooklyn, for delivery June 30/July 1. BUT pod "can't be delivered because fork lift at Brooklyn storage site has been broken for over 1 month" so pod can't be put on truck for delivery. They "don't know" when a repair person for the forklift will come by to fix. And they won't rent a fork lift to provide the required lifting onto delivery truck. WHAT A JOKE!!! On Pods website it says you can get access to your Pod at the storage facility with 24-48 hour notice. I called last night, and they say I can't get access to it for 6 days! I'm in the process of closing on our home and need to add some more items to our Pod. I'm supposed to leave in 5 days! I'm closing on a house! I don't know what we are supposed to do! I lost a full box of expensive books and my $1200 mattress to water damage that they magically don't cover on their insurance policy, even though during the sales pitch, they tout how safe your stuff will be and you get up to $10k of coverage. The letter I got after their "investigation" basically states that the only time they actually cover anything is in the event of a handful of things that WILL NEVER happen. So basically they are saying that their company insurance policy is nothing but a load of crap. Thanks for putting me out over $1200 and a mattress. I will NEVER use PODS again. By the way, Regardless of their useless excuses, my belongings were not damaged when I loaded them, but they were when I unloaded them. While they may say that the cause is "unknown", what I know is that my belongings were destroyed while in PODS possession. This is the poorest excuse for customer service I've ever experienced. If I could give them a zero, I would. I'll make it short. I booked a pod online for delivery the next day and it was confirmed. Next day, no pod or call. I call them, and they said online system shouldn't have scheduled it. What!! She rescheduled and confirmed it again over the phone for delivery for the next day. That day came and went. No pod. Again, I make a call to the 877 number, and manager says there's nothing in the system. Uuuggghhhh!!!! She further states that she'll call back in an hour to See what happened. No call ever. Do NOT waste your money on this moving service. Save yourself alot of time, effort, and stress by using local moving companies/storage. Below are the issues that were experienced during the move: 1. Charges that don't match original quote. Apparently PODs feels that the delivery fees quoted are not final fees. They charged me almost double the delivery fee than what was quoted. 2. If the driver doesn't feel "comfortable" delivering or dropping your POD, it will be taken to storage WITHOUT your consent. Further more you will be charged for this storage (or the difference between onsite and offsite monthly storage fee) and ANOTHER delivery fee. 3. No call ahead and missed delivery. This resulted in paying a moving company a minimum 3 hour fee for standing around waiting on the POD that never arrived. Opened a dispute with PODs customer service, haven't heard a peep from them. 4. Scheduling is a nightmare and they don't tell you that they only deliver to certain areas during certain days of the week and you can bet that the day you want...no options. All in all, the 'affordable' PODS solution ended up costing almost double the original quote. read more

DO NOT USE PODS!!! You are better off hiring a moving crew to load a truck and move all of your stuff for you for the same price! First of all, PODS does not give you a window of time when they will arrive to deliver or pick up your POD. The wait until the day before to give you a 4 hour window! The day before?! What kind of sh** is that? All delivery companies that I have worked with can give you a window at least a week in advance. But not PODS. Also, when PODS delivered it to my house they had the door/gate facing the my neighbor's house, so we had to walk all the way around the POD to load everything...how can you get that wrong? I contacted Pods in July to supply me with a large unit for an upcoming cross country move. I needed the flexibility of being able to load things over time that I plan to keep while I weed out and sell other items, an option you don't have with a traditional moving van. I have plenty of space to park the pod. When I initially contacted them, they said they don't serve my zip code, but when I pointed out that my town is a straight shot on an interstate freeway just 84 miles from their nearest warehouse, they seemed to decide to accommodate me. I filled out forms, signed an agreement, created an account and agreed to an Oct 1 delivery date. They processed my credit card payment. As my delivery date neared, I was told by an online chat person that I would receive my ETA after 5 pm on Sept 30. When I didn't hear from them, I called customer service, who told me that I would need to haul my belongings 84 miles up that freeway and load my pod at their warehouse. What??? Since I drive a Honda Fit, hauling household goods that would fill a 1000 cubic ft pod 84 miles to load at their warehouse would be an impossible feat! So I found myself high and dry at the last minute with no forewarning. My two attempts to speak with a person prior to Oct 1 were met with a recorded message to check my on line account. Here is a screenshot of my Pods account. To my eye, it looks like I'm all set for Oct 1 delivery. Someone from Pods put me on hold for about 45 minutes when I called the evening of September 30 to try to present my case about being stood up a few hours before delivery by their company, then...to add fuel to the fire...disconnected me. By this time I was a nervous wreck because I felt like The rug had been pulled out from beneath my feet. I have things ready to load, and my house goes on the market soon! Moving is stressful enough without this kind of incident. My realtor suggested 1-800-Packrat, whom I called Oct 1. Their pod arrived Oct 4 and I've been loading it . Packrat's warehouse is located about 5 miles from Pods. The person from that company couldn't believe how I'd been treated by Pods. I couldn't either. read more

We were able to reduce the costs of our interstate move significantly and have a lot more flexibility to pack and unpack in stages using multiple PODS. We had very little damage and were quite pleased to have more control over the logistics of our move. We used guys from local moving companies on each end to help us load and unload the PODS, great decision, well worth it. The local PODS drivers were all great. My only caveat is that some of the phone service reps are better than others - the great ones can save you huge time and energy to set up or change pickups and deliveries. If you don't get someone real sharp on the phone, call back again a little later to avoid lots of frustration and wasted time. read more

I am beyond frustrated and angry with PODS. I scheduled my POD to be delivered to my new home out of state on Sept 25th. This scheduling was done a couple of weeks ago. This Sunday I received an email that my delivery was canceled because I didn't accept my rental agreement. I didn't get a call. They just canceled my delivery. Of course, when I called them the first person I spoke to wouldn't let me explain the problem and told me I was interrupting him. All of his worldly possessions weren't somewhere in limbo. So I had a few choice words for him, hung up and called again. I explained that my rental agreement had been accepted and he agreed there was a mistake. He acted very nice and said he was going to submit my delivery as a special circumstance and if it didn't get approved it would be delivered on Oct 5th. Today I called to see if my original date had been approved or if it was going to be delivered on Oct 5th. Neither had happened. I asked to speak to a manager but of course the supervisor was busy. I am told he will call me later. I will be surprised if that happens. I have special work related equipment in that POD. PODS didn't seem to care about lost wages and a disgruntled employer. Buyer beware. Run away. Run far, far away. We moved from DC to California. Read all the way to the end. (I'm 39 years old and this is my FIRST negative review ever). They said that it would take ten days and it took thirteen (not that big a deal). I got an email saying that the pod would show up on Friday at a certain time. We had friends and family there to help us unload. When the drop off time came and went I logged into my account which said it was coming later. We waited more. When it didn't show up then I called. The girl said that the driver was running behind but we were the next stop and he would be there soon. We waited. An hour later I called and asked to speak to a supervisor. After researching for 20 minutes he told me THAT MY POD WAS STILL IN VIRGINIA. Apparently there was some additional paperwork that needed to get done... I asked how come nobody let me know about this paperwork over the last 8 days and how come I got three different confirmations that it was arriving. No idea. He didn't care and that was obvious. I faxed them back their missing paperwork and my POD shipped. After two weeks of sleeping on the floor I got an email saying that our POD would show up between 9-12. More friends and family over. At 1:00 I logged in to my account and it said that my POD would be there at 12-4. At 4 I called and explained my concern and the girl had an attitude like she couldn't care less. Finally my POD shows up at 5. We open the door to find that a forklift blade had punctured the POD and ripped my king size mattress, went through the stereo box, through a painting, through a dresser, and destroyed my fiancées kitchen table that used to be her Grandmothers. On the outside of the POD they just put a thin metal white plate to patch the hole but no phone call or anything. Everyone that you talk to that works there says that they just went through a change in their system and it is a complete nightmare. It's been going on for two months with no end in sight. Run away. This is the second negative review I've ever written, and it is well deserved. The whole reason I moved with PODS was because I was pressed for time, needed my things stored for a few months, and needed it shipped to my new apartment several months down the line. PODS couldn't make that happen. First, after trying for about a month to lock down a same day delivery and pickup of my POD, their CSRs were unable to get in touch with the Hayward location to make that happen. I live in DT SF, which as many know, is slim to none on parking. Same day was required for me. Second, that turned out to not even matter, because after setting a ship date to my new apartment, and charging me and arm and a leg (literally thousands of dollars), they failed to solidify the required permitting for my area, all of which they assured me they would take care of several weeks in advance. The POD was never delivered to my apartment - the whole reason I went with PODs in the first place. They instead suggested I rent a truck and move the materials myself from Hayward to downtown. Refund? Discount? We are sorry? Personal phone call? Nada. PODs, you suck, and I will never recommend you to anyone. read more

My wife and I chose PODS because we assumed that it would be less of a hassle than renting a conventional storage shed. We were wrong. Scheduling for drop-off and pick-up took a bit of time and planning. But we sort of anticipated the logistical challenges and were mentally prepared for the inconvenience. What we did not expect, however, was just how frustrating it was to deal with PODS's employees. When we first ordered the pod, they quoted us one price. But, later on (after we spent days loading our stuffs into the container), we discovered that the price on the written invoice was actually higher than the quote over the phone. When asked about the discrepancy, they informed us that the person who gave us the lower price lacked sufficient training and made a mistake. Naturally, we were surprised and irritated by the lame excuse. To spare you the ugly details, suffice it to say, a series of infuriating back-tracking and bureaucratic run-around ensued. I am writing this while in the process of moving. It seems customer service is NOT a priority of PODs. I ordered my moving supplies from PODs because their site promised EASY returns. With this peace of mind, I was wiling to pay for the premium. Low and behold, when I did exercise this return policy, it seems hidden on the site not even on the receipt it states Return fees upon return fees. So I was bamboozled by PODs. I was directed to the place on there site where it stated this and guess what...there's 3-4 clicks before you find and it is not even stated on the receipt. I wonder what the BBB has to say about this...I will update as soon as I find out. Secondly, It seems their employees are trained to lie. I caught their representative in a lie not once but twice. The most interesting one was that people had two names. A person name Charlene who notified me of the fees via email, suddenly became Kelly. When I asked to speak to a manager, immediately said "He was on a phone call" without even checking or even pretending to check or offer voicemail. Of course during the transfer, the line "accidentally" disconnected. Let's just say...save yourself some headache, BRING YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. read more

This was an unbelievably bad experience, and I didn't even get past the point of getting a quote with them. I spent a total of about an hour on the phone over three phone calls, including with a manager who turned out to be only marginally more helpful than the front-line dullards. I got 9 different quotes from them, none of them matching what they told me over the phone. They told me they would price match another quote I got from a different company, confirmed it in email, and then the price was different when I went online and then spoke to them on the phone. I have paid $3,000 to have my things stored in a pod over the course of 12 months. Once I was finally ready to have my POD delivered, I called 8 days in advance from the day I wanted my POD to arrive. I was told that I needed to give them a 5-day notice. But of course, they can't deliver my POD until 11 days from the day I gave them notice, not 5, which was clearly communicated to me initially. And, look at the verbiage that is clearly stated under the FAQ from their website: "Delivery time depends on a variety of factors, which include availability of delivery vehicles and the distance to the delivery location. PODS scheduling technology provides the flexibility to meet your moving needs." A PODS supervisor said it is literally impossible for them to accommodate my Sept. 1 delivery date. What happened to that "flexibility to meed my moving needs"? Now I'm going to have to move in on a Thursday, and use a vacation day from work. I won't have help from my friends to move in. PODS is a solution for consumers that are willing to pay a premium for convenience -- convenience for one of the most dreaded burdens: moving. I am appalled that they have inconvenienced me like this, and they weren't willing to make any kind of compromise. TERRIBLE customer service. If they don't step up to the plate and try to accommodate the reasonable needs to a year-long customer, I will denounce PODS as much as humanly possible. Please, don't use PODS. For our remodel project, it made sense to pack our things to get them out of the way and store them in a POD off site before construction actually began. Everything started well with PODs, it was delivered in a timely fashion BUT we only wanted it to sit on our driveway for two days and be returned. My neighbor had used a POD for quite a bit of time and the special rate (no pickup/drop off charges if you do a 3 month rental) seemed just the ticket. Unfortunately, that is when the problems began. 1. I found their website to be unusable. Might be me, but I could never successfully schedule a pick up or drop off. I resorted to CHAT (and calls). 2. Apparently if you only want the POD on site for two days, you have to schedule both the drop off and pickup AT THE SAME TIME. Because they are heavily booked. 3. Through no fault of PODs, a fire and subsequent poor air quality meant that our pickup was delayed by TWO WEEKS. Fine, but communication about what was going to happen was pretty poor. Dates moved without notice and at the last minute, and the website showed a pickup which didn't occur. 4. Again, when it came time to re-deliver the POD, the website just refused to accept my request so I used CHAT again. Even though I'm already signed in, the long, long list of questions (and the slowness on the part of the agent in responding) was PAINFUL. If only the website worked. 5. EVEN after the agent said he had scheduled the drop off, the website showed "no delivery scheduled" for the next 20 hours. Didn't give me much confidence. 6. The delivery window said 11am to 2pm... driver showed up at 8:00 AM! Last minute scrambling to move our cars ensued. 7. While the original drop off guy was careful to not drive over our sprinkler heads, the return guy was NOT so careful. I haven't checked, but the weight of the wheels almost certainly broke one of our sprinkler heads... it's now been pushed down below the level of the soil. 8. The quality of the actual storage POD varies considerably. My neighbor had one that was made of steel frames and had plenty of spots to hook safety strapping and tie-downs. The one that was delivered to me was 4x4s with tiny eyelets here and there. The cinch strapping wouldn't fit. 9. If someone wanted to get it in the latch on the roll down door is not going to be much of a deterrent. The door is a thin metal and it would be very simple to pry the latch off the door to gain access - or cut through the plastic sides of the container. Keep that in mind if you plan to keep your POD on site. If you do use PODs, I highly recommend that you just CALL them. Don't bother with the website at all - it's an exercise in frustration and futility - and don't expect the website to be accurate. All in all, I don't think I'd use them again. read more

We called customer service for a same day delivery and pickup, but they kept failing to meet our expectations. Eventually, we were able to speak with Adam in Milpitas and he went out of his way to make the arrangements for the same day delivery and pickup. Absolutely the worst customer service nightmare I have ever had. We moved across the country, entrusting all of our belongings to them. They rescheduled delivery of our POD four times, two of which they failed to even notify us of the change. At one point they couldn't even confirm what city our belongings were in. Four times, we had to reschedule with the families helping us unload. We had to continually change our living arrangements, eventually spending a week in a hotel and upwards of ten hours on the phone with them to get our belongings delivered. All the while, traveling with a one-year-old. The week we planned to unpack before beginning work at a new job in a new city was wasted, and I had to begin work while my wife was stuck with a baby and a home full of still-packed boxes. It was the most prolonged, stressful, and expensive customer service nightmare I have ever had. In the end, they offered us a pittance, which would have covered only a fraction of our hotel costs, not to mention the exhaustion and emotional turmoil. And to get that offer, I would have had to sign an agreement to never tell anybody about the experience, which we obviously declined. So I speak for myself, as well as anybody else who went through that nightmare but opted to sign the silence agreement, when I say, DO NOT TRUST THEM. read more

Like so many others, I wish I could give a negative 5 stars. Why didn't I look at these reviews before I booked this service?? The customer service rep who signed me up and took my money was so cheerful and enthusiastic and convincing! Plus the flexibility of it all! They drop it off, you load it up and they move it to your new home then pick it up when it's empty. Easy, right??? Crazy hidden fees, storage, taxes, coverage... the gal on the phone who signed me up told me I didn't have to pay for the transport until the day the POD left but she was wrong. When I called to see why my POD account was listed as overdue, the ridiculously rude man on the other end told me I was lying about what the booking gal had told me and that they would now have to delay my POD delivery for an additional two days. So essentially we moved across the country and the POD people refused to deliver my things on the date promised. I was lucky to have family there who could put us up as we had no bed or kitchen/bath things. For a misunderstanding they could have been so much more gracious and taken care of the customer's needs. For several Thousand dollars including hidden fees and markups for months of storage I didn't ask for OR use, they could have at least delivered the POD on time, right? The truth is that when all was said and done I could have hired pro movers to pack my house up for me and drive it up to my new home, unpack and put it all away and paid about the same as what POD ended up costing in the end. My advice, don't even consider them. Worst customer service ever and it'll cost you even more to be condescended to by their "support". read more
