Ate here again for the um'teenth time. Easy to find them on the outside of the food court. Mall parking is mall parking. The creamy sesame dressing on ahi is our favorite, and over "all salad" instead of rice. We always split a large and it fills us. All and all it's good poke for a decent price. I am not a poke purist. But if you read my review- you may think I am a poke purist. Normally Poke sits in a marinade- that is how the flavor soaks through the well lack for a better word- flesh. to make the whole fish taste great. So when they have this idea that they prepare the poke right there and then- yes the fish is fresh as you can see the fish before the marinade goes on but then the marinade is only a glaze and not a true poke style. So maybe it should be Glaze in a Box. The neat thing is you get to pick- so you are part of the experience of your poke- so that is the NEW thing that will get you to try poke if you are a mainlander that has never had this before- I understand fish so tell me what sounds great to put on my fish right in front of me!!!! That is the sizzle with the steak - idiom- no steak here- just glaze. Food wise- it is still good fresh fish- it has to be, no one would buy it if it wasn't great looking fresh fish because we can see what is being prepared in front of glass. Poke & Box offers customers a more customizable approach (somewhat reminiscent of mainland poke bowls) to creating their own poke bowls in an efficient yet convenient way. The process to making your own bowl is simple (if you've made a sandwich at a Subway before this will make sense). You make your way down the assembly line, where friendly staff members are ready to help make your bowl for you. First, choose your Base- either rice or salad (or half n half), and then move on to selecting the ingredients you'd like to be mixed in with your poke: green onions, avocado, raw onions, imitation crab and cucumber. Next up is the PokeMix. This is where you can choose which form of protein you want in your bowl: fresh ahi, salmon, tako, scallops, shrimp, tofu, or chicken. Then its on to the sauces! Love this place! I'm a regular and come here almost everyday after my shift. Although there's many places in the mall with poke, I love it here because of their variety. I usually go with the small size which comes with a choice of salad, or rice (brown or white), you can put topping on it like furikake, tempura flakes, etc. Also there's a variety of main entree seafood, the poke is the best but shrimp and scallop is good too. They also feature multiple sauces and you can sample it too. I can't bring myself to give this restaurant a bad review on their food because it's so good, but I do have a gripe. I know we're in a pandemic so they adjusted their hours. That doesn't bother me because they posted their new hours. My problem is they aren't following those hours. I guess they're staying open until they run out of food for the day? I'm not sure, just guessing, but I've come several times now before 6:30 pm and they're already closed. If you're going to close early at least put a sign on the door. Or better yet post something online. A few weeks back they randomly closed for a few weeks and then reopened with no word. Their website said nothing about being closed. The only thing I saw was on the mall's site it just said "temporarily closed" again with no reason. It's very inconvenient to never know if they'll be open or closed and driving all the way to Ala Moana only to find they closed at 5 pm. I'm posting the hours they have listed. Wow this place is a great deal! We got the medium (two choice) poke bowl. Comes automatically with two scoops of rice (or salad), a scoop of crab salad and a slice of avocado. I picked double ahi, and my boyfriend got ahi and salmon. They use these little scoopers to scoop your fish into a bowl and it doesn't look like a lot (two scoops per choice, so double ahi was four scoops ahi) but once they mix it with the sauce and veggies (onion, green onion and cucumber), I thought it was a good amount for a $10 poke box! The spicy shoyu, mild spicy and sesame sauces were all tasty. For toppings we got nori and dried onion. I loved the dried onion! After this, we picked two sides to go with our medium bowl. We both got tobikko and taegu. I love that this place gives you free sides to add to your poke box so you don't have to buy it separately like you do at the supermarket. So price wise, all of this for $10 is an amazing deal! And I'm not sure if I just came on a really good day, but the ahi and salmon were melt in your mouth good /drool/ like ono seafood soft. If their sauces were like ono seafood sauces (my absolute favorite poke place) I would come here every day! But dang! I've been to Poke & Box once before in the past and once again today. I feel that there hasn't been much improvement flavor-wise. For $9.99, I purchased a small box with white rice, avocado, imitation crab, mild spicy ahi, and masago + furikake. The sauce used was too mild for my taste, but I didn't know if I could ask for a sample beforehand. It tasted largely of mayo, so I feel that if there was a more balanced mixture of the sauce, the flavor could be improved. The ahi tasted a little stale and had hard, stringy bits in it. The staff is very generous with the toppings! I received a lot of furikake and masago, which went well the taste. The avocado was a bit hard but the crab tasted fine. It seems that the amount of fish I receive varies per visit. The portion sizes are decent, but I find that the taste is a little too flat for me to fully enjoy the meal. The staff was pretty quick and efficient, but I felt like they were tired of serving me and wanted to get me to the register asap (it could have just been that it was lunch hour and they were stressed). I feel that customer service could be a little more welcoming, but I do understand that it can get tiring and stressful in the food industry. Overall, I think this is an okay place to get your poke fix if you're in the Ala Moana area. However, personally, I feel that the flavor is a little lacking and the fish isn't as fresh or as plentiful as other places in Hawaii. Ahh, poke, I love poke. Would I recommend this place? Sure. They're conveniently located in the Ala Moana food court, more so near the aja bento place. I came here a couple months ago, and I'll admit that I was a bit confused on how to place an order. The amount of poke you get and the number of sides you get depends on what size plate you get. I got a medium size poke box so I got to choose 2 types of poke. I chose the ahi and the salmon :) They have a bunch of sauces to choose from (this is the sauce that they'll mix with your poke.) I came a while ago so I don't remember exactly what I chose but I think I chose the wasabi mustard and the hot spicy. The poke, along with the sides that I got to choose, made for a nice meal. My poke box was quite full and to be honest, it was filling. I couldn't finish all of it and had to pass my leftovers to someone else in my party. Here, they marinate the poke right then and there, (once you decide your choice of sauce.) I personally like my poke to be well-marinated (marinated for a while so that the sauce really seeps into the fish.) We all love a deliciously marinated poke, but the toppings can make a simple poke and rice plate lunch into something quite extravagant :) Food: Quite delicious. They have all the usual poke options -- ahi, salmon, tofu, and much more types of seafood marinated in various sauces. I went with shoyu ahi and the tofu with shoyu sauce. They have 3 different sizes for their boxes -- small, medium, or large. I went with the medium since I wanted to share with my my mother in-law. I didn't know that they were super generous with the portions, so we had left overs! I think next time, the 2 of us can get the small. There were many options for toppings and sides too. I really love the customization feature of this kind of eatery. Oh, but a side note: the salmon didn't look so good, so I didn't order that despite wanting to eat salmon... So, always check out the color of the meat before ordering (but of course this applies to all poke places)...it just so happened the image of that weird colored salmon is imprinted in my brain.... This is the owners of Aja and is connected right next to the food court. Once you walk in you see so many choices to chose from. First you chose your fish either ahi or salmob. Then your starch or salad , after that you choose your own sauce that they will mix your fish with and of course you can try the sauce first. It's great they take you down the whole assembly line where they also have a choice of taegu, kimchee and etc. We bought the one choice for $7.99 /each and we were not disappointed. It was definitely delicious and worth every penny. Only thing that I had disliked was the fish. I had the salmon and it wasn't cut properly. They still had that gray skin on the salmon which gave it a more fishy taste. I really like this place I'm most likely to come back and try the different mixes for the sauces. They have limitless amounts of flavors and toppings so that you can truly customize your bowl. I ordered a medium size with spicy ahi and shoyu tako and loads of other things on top (avocado, crab, cucumber, tobiko, furikake). Good quality and fast, so don't pass it up if you're curious to try it. Even though I'm giving five stars for a great meal at a reasonable price, there are some things that could've made it better. 1. Customer service I get that they aren't asking for a tip and they just want to give you your food and get you out, but a smile or a nice tone of voice would have been nice. Poke & Box is a new addition to the food court in Ala Moana. I was excited to try this place after seeing everyone rave about how cool it was to basically build your own poke bowl. Today was my first time trying it here but I wouldn't give it 5 stars, maybe a 3.5 stars. I got a small poke bowl w/ white rice, fresh ahi (along with the hot spicy sauce), crab meat, ginger, onions, nori, and cucumbers. Hot spicy sauce wasn't spicy to me at all.... I guess I should've gotten the very spicy sauce added to my ahi. I did enjoy how fresh the ahi was though. You could tell it was fresh because it definitely melts in your mouth, so that was a huge plus. The toppings added to my bowl was also a great addition because I actually got tired of the taste of my poke after a while. I guess I'm just so used to my poke bowls from Ono Seafood in Kapahulu and several other places that I'd rather refer. If I'm ever craving a poke bowl, this place will probably not be one of my options. Not an overall fan, like how everyone else is. While eating, I found a blue piece of plastic while I was chewing on a piece of ahi (picture below). Not exactly sure how it got there but that kind of ruined my appetite & I chose not to finish the rest of my poke bowl. That was pretty much the only downside of my first time trying this new place. Not much lettuce was placed on the bottom, and when we moved onto the poke itself, I requested a mild spicy poke with furikake, tempura flakes, masago and taegu.. no no no.. only one selection from each section..so I had to settle for tempura flakes no furikake, taegu, no masago.. oh well.. The second bowl I ordered was salad base and scallop, unsure of what sauce to get I asked for a suggestion, she said sesame..so I agreed to get the sesame..it wasn't sesame that I got, it was shoyu..I'm willing to give this place another shot, but for the price I paid for what I got, I think I could of found a better deal elsewhere. read more

Why I have a craving for poke when there's a HepA scare is beyond me. But I was anxious to try this place for a while. My first positive is what you get for $10 bucks. Imagine poke bowl from Foodland but 10x better. The ratio of rice to poke, poke definitely wins vs. Foodlands version. This isn't a Foodland put down, they still have the best recipes. But here you make your own! Easy to do! The taste of the ahi with spicy shoyu was soooo fresh and Ono. Plus I had my jalapeño slices and Taegu on the side.....heaven. The add on garnishes I must try them all later. The only reason why only 4 stars was the white rice was like eating mochi rice. Whoever made the batch may not know the finger measure to cook rice. Also the tofu with creamy sauce was a bad choice on my part, in my opinion didn't match. I wish I double tapped the ahi. Like Arnold, I'll be back. read more

I don't have a single bad thing to say about this place. Super nice staff, fair prices and good food are all included. At first, I thought the customization concept was a little gimmicky, but I am blown away by the quality of the fish itself. So soft, so fresh, and totally void of any chewy ligaments. I recommend the super spicy (not super spicy in reality) and gochujang (it's on the sweeter side). The banchan are delicious and the little scoop of avo is free! I love me some good poke! I saw this place while strolling the food court at Ala Moana looking to find some grindz. I thought stuff would be expensive since it's in Ala Moana but I was pleasantly surprised a medium plate is around $11. I have a big appetite and the medium plate was able to fill me up. There is so much you can choose from and I love that customization. The staff was really friendly and answered any questions I had. The fish is really fresh and all the sides taste good. Overall, I was very surprised at this place because of the cost and the quality of food. If I'm ever in the neighborhood I'll definitely stop by and I highly recommend this place. read more
