Poke House is a really good "go to" for a great poke bowl. First, the staff is always patient and really helpful! That is important when there are so many options to choose from. Patrons are making a ton of choices from all of the great options and, it can be time consuming. Today, I stopped by to pick up 2 bowls. Each had VERY different ingredients and sauces. The employee was patient and very accommodating. I was reading, off my phone, the options that my sister chose. Then, giving the options that I chose for the second bowl. He didn't skip a beat. Even more frustrating for him, I think, was asking for all of the sauces on the side. He didn't seem to mind. He graciously put all of the sauces in little cups. He also labeled them with a Sharpie. Nice touch! Before I move on with the review, I'd like to offer a suggestion for the side sauces. If you are taking your order to go, the sauce containers will ultimately tip over in the bag, on the way home. Although the containers are of good quality, the sauce often leaks out. Perhaps adding a quick wrap of Saran Wrap (or the like), would aid in keeping the multiple sauce containers from tipping over in the bag, on the way home. The fish has always tasted fresh! Not once have I eaten here and complained about the quality! Sometimes we don't want to go to a sushi restaurant to get good raw fish. It's also hard to trust a poke restaurant in a strip mall. Trust me on this, Poke House does the job! I've been to this location at least a dozen times. Not once, was I disappointed in the quality and service. I'm so glad that this place is so close to me! I randomly stopped here for dinner after searching on the map for a healthy and quick dinner option but it's now one of my favorite places! This is my first time coming to this restaurant! I got their smaller bowl, which includes only one premium topping. I got the salmon. For my base, I chose half brown rice and half salad. I really like all the fun toppings, seasonings, and sauces that they have. There is no limit to the amount of normal toppings you can get. My friend tried the miso soup. It came out of a machine, almost like how fruit juice comes out of those machines at the hotel continental breakfast. The soup had no flavor and barely any tofu or green onion. We were tempted to add our own salt or soy sauce to make it palatable.I don't know how they make them, but it doesn't seem like they're using enough miso paste. They slide your bowl down like an assembly line to each station and you can pick out your items. First is the base. You can select from white or brown rice, salad, combo of both, or pokerrito. I usually get brown rice for it's nutty flavor and chewy texture. Next is the protein. I like the salmon as it's rich and buttery, but there's also various tuna, shrimp, tofu, and a weekly special. All the raw fish is very fresh. You would tell them how many scoops you want. Third is the sauce. They're all good so I like to mix and match. I enjoy the House on Fire for some kick and the Garlic Miso. They drizzle it all over the protein and base. After that are the mix-ins. You can let your creativity shine! My favorites are the crab salad, seaweed salad, edamame, pineapple, cucumber, and corn. All the produce available makes it super healthy. :) Finally, the toppings. I love the crispy bits so I ask for them all! They have garlic crisps, hot Cheetos, tempura crisps, and furikake. Overall, it is a great combination of flavors, textures, and colors. I went to eat at this poke place and the rice was way too mushy. Rice should be fluffy and have a good texture, not feel like mashed rice. It honestly made the meal unpleasant. In Asian cuisine, rice is one of the main parts of the dish, so the quality and texture really matter. Grabbed some dinner from this place. Had the poke bowl, it's all they serve, I had the ahi and ahi Thai chili. Both were good and tasted fresh. I went with half rice and half greens as I always do. Other poke place seemed to have more to choose from, although they did have crushed flaming hot Cheetos which I skipped. I didn't like that they drizzle the sauce over your bowl instead of mixing it separately like other place I've been too. The other thing I didn't care for was the tipping. I order one Spicy Tuna, Spicy House, cilantro, red cabbage, corn and onion, hot Cheetos, with wasabi aioli bowl. One of the shrimp bowls had no shrimp on it. The other shrimp bowl had shrimp but hard rice. The tuna bowl was meh. The tuna wasn't fishy but wasn't fresh, it was just aight. Yummy yummy in my tummy! I normally went to Pokeatery on 51st Street but it's far from where I live now, so I decided to give Poke House a try since it's much closer. I was a little skeptical because I loved Pokeatery a lot. I have to say Poke House really impressed me. I always go for a poke bowl. A regular bowl here is $10.49 (2 scoops of protein) and a large one is $12.49 (3 scoops of protein). At Poketary, you can get 4 scoops of protein at $12.49, so here is a bit more expensive but not too bad since it's closer to me. I ordered a regular bowl and thought it would be small, but it was not. The portion is huge, each scoop of protein is decent (not too much, not too little). Here is what I got: Half white rice and half salad. The rice here is Japanese/Korean rice, not regular white rice or Jasmine rice. It's not as sticky as sushi rice, but not as dry as regular rice. It has a good mix of dryness and stickiness which makes it very good. Protein: salmon and classic ahi poke. Classic ahi poke is already mixed in sauces, so no extra sauce is needed. Both are very fresh. Sauces for salmon: spicy house, garlic miso, and sesame shoyu. Toppings: I get all except avocado (they charge extra for avocado) and hot Cheetos (sorry hot Cheetos fan, I just don't need to put this artificial and bad stuff in my body). You can drizzle spicy mayo or wasabi aioli on top of your bowl. I chose spicy mayo and my husband chose wasabi aioli. Both are equally good - adding some creamy taste and a little spice to the bowl. What really stands out about a bunch of their toppings is seaweed salad - I can't get enough of it. Very sad experience coming here for a Poke Bowl as a quick bit between shopping experiences. Right off, when we asked for furukaki on the rice, we had to ask a few times just so she understood what we wanted then was told "that's for after at the end." I then stepped forward and told here we wanted on the rice before the fish, not after, to which she begrudgingly complied. We selected spicy ahi, which was ground up fish and ahi poke. We were also able to select other toppings so choose seafood salad, ie imitation crab and mayo, and nori strips. The food was not good and had little flavor. Rice was undercooked. Spicy ahi was not good or spicy. Even the ahi poke was a little bland. We will never be back here again as the food was not so good and the server, who was fiddling with her facial piercings while fishing our food, so gross and unsanitary, was terrible.
