Great sushi, reasonable prices, fresh fish. Mizuno has been one of our go-tos since moving to Merrick. We typically order a couple of specialty rolls and then round out our meal with the three roll special (pick any three, plus miso soup & salad all for $15). Most of the kitchen appetizers are good too if you're looking for a few land based selections, but I found the sushi appetizers a little small for the price. For example, the salmon chalaca consists of four bite sized morsels of salmon & tuna wrapped around fresh mango slices...for $12. For that price, I'd rather snag another specialty roll or something more substantial from the kitchen. After some trial and error, we have a pretty generous shortlist of favorites here, chances are you'll be happy here too! read more

Let me start by saying ive been coming here for years and its disappointing to see the decline in quality at mazuno. Place used to be atleast a 4 star review but now its a steady 3. Today I got the kani salad which was fresh and tasty. I also got the three roll combo which comes with soup and salad. The soup is bland and the salad is a basic house salad with ginger dressing. Roll wise I got the spicy shrimp which was the best of the three. The sweet potato roll was dry and skimpy. For my last roll I got the eel avacado roll. The avacado was fresh but the eel was very dry and rubbery. So disappointing and rubbery I didnt even finish it. Atmosphere wise it pretty nice but very dark. Staff is friendly however very very slow. I understand places have bad days but this has been the case the last three times. read more

Mizuno looks like every other sushi place from the outside, but the inside is nice, clean, and modern. There is a large selection of rolls but honestly, like at most sushi places, they all start tasting the same. Too much rice, crunchies, and sauce. You can't even differentiate between the different types of fish. My boyfriend and I shared the fancy, volcano, lovers, and snake rolls. I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but this place isn't as great as it was hyped up to be. Prices are average at best, and the special roll (a $16 roll to be exact) didn't have the components that it was supposed to. Rock shrimp tempura was regular shrimp. Change the price to reflect that then, no point in charging me extra when it wasn't what I ordered. It's pretty inconsiderate. Other than that, food was okay. But I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat here again. read more

On Valentine's Day my husband and I ordered from mizuno through seamless. The restaurant was swamped and our order took an hour and a half longer than it was supposed to. We were frustrated but also understood. The hostess wound up hand delivering our food because she felt bad for the delay and we really appreciated it! A week later we got a gift card in the mail from mizuno apologizing for the inconvenience on Valentine's Day. It was so nice of them. Great way to show your customers that you appreciate them! I am particularly picky about the sushi I eat. I generally go to a real Japanese owned place in the city but it's hard to do right now. I have sampled quite a few sushi places around the Town of Hempstead and they have all varied from bad to mehh. Then I found Mizuno. The fish is usually pretty fresh. This I can tell because I order sashimi and it those 'monster' rolls that have a ton of Mayo, sriracha, etc to disguise the actual flavor of the fish. I also get the three roll maki combos consisting of yellowtail scallion rolls. Some of the lazier sushi chefs just out in strips of yellowtail and roll it up. Mizuno chops up the yellowtail and mixes in the scallion. It makes a difference. They won't have specialty items like raw shrimp, uni or toro but what they do have is guaranteed to be fresh. read more

This place doesn't get enough credit. I find that these days, most sushi places with some longevity are usually all around solid, but sometimes a place brings another level of depth, as has Mizuno. I wouldn't dare extend an opinion on what to order, but i enjoyed the tar-tar salad immensely, and would return for that alone! Was looking for a sushi restaurant so decided to use Yelp to find one. Found Mizuno read the reviews which were very positive, so decided to try it out. Was very glad I did. Turned out to be on one of the better sushi restaurants I have been to in a while. Inside the decor was modern and the lighting was just right. We ordered edamame and kani salad to start. For dinner ordered a rainbow roll, lobster roll, king dragon roll, dragon roll, 2 fancy rolls, and tuna roll brown rice. The fancy roll was outstanding and we finished off with some green tea ice cream. The food was excellent and the service was also very good. I highly recommend this place. Never again. 3 hours for my delivery!!!! Granted it was Valentine's Day BUT I live 1.5 miles away and when it got here my hot stuff was cold and soggy. So I'm guessing it had to sit around for a while... Then when the delivery guy came I gave him a $5 tip because he was nice and I always feel you should tip something.. He then came back and told me I needed to pay, which was very strange because I paid 3 hours ago with me Credit card using YELP... The outside is unassuming but the interior is sophisticated and intimate. There's only a handful of tables and a sushi bar so it's a nice place for a quiet meal or a date. Their menu offerings are pretty standard. We had the three roll combo, the sweetie roll, seaweed salad, and shumai. The sweetie roll is in the shape of a heart so that's pretty interesting. Loved their food and ordered from them often for the last few months- unfortunately though I will never order from them again. Their delivery person was extremely disrespectful and threatening to my mother when he mistakeningly thought she didn't tip (the money was stuck together and lots of small bills). Banging on the door, screaming, yelling, shaking his fist full of the cash we had just given him- the whole thing. Can't expect him to know but my whole family is in the service industry so it would've been met with a lot more understanding if he came back calmly and didn't refuse to count the money back to us. Manager was extremely apologetic when I called but unless he was fired I wouldn't feel safe having him deliver to my home again and since that likely won't happen- I will not be ordering again. I'm accustomed to seeing a wider variation of fishes available. There was more on the menu; however, I am hesitant to order raw fish that is not displayed. I decided on salmon with avocado and tuna with cucumber rolls. My order was ready in under 10 minutes. It wasn't the quickest service yet it wasn't excessively long.
