Located right next to an autozone and 7-11, Poki Monster is a pretty solid place to satisfy your poke craving. I'll simply list out the pros and cons: Pros: - Good amount of food for the price. - Lots of different toppings to choose from: cucumber, ginger, furikake, avocado, imitation crab, masago (fish eggs), fresh seaweed, green onion, sesame seed and nori. The best part is that you can add ALL of these items for no extra charge...so do it! Cons: - Stick with the white/brown rice and salad. The nacho chips didn't look too good. - Make sure to advise them to take it easy on the ponzu. In the end, I really enjoyed my meal as I feel I got my monies worth (did I mention that portion sizes are nice?). Not the best nor freshest poke around, but still a 4 star establishment. read more

Service - Good Food - OK Refillable fountain drinks - Good There are so many poke spots popping up in SoCal. This place wants to keep the normal poke style without the kale/healthy feel to it while being different. I think they should go with the basics first then move on to a specialty that no one has like their variety of sauces. I ordered a regular poke bowl with salmon and spicy salmon. The main thing that surprised me is that they don't mix the fish with the sauces. They pour the sauces over the poke and rice so the taste isn't consistent. Typically, poke should be marinated for some time so that the fish absorbs the flavors. Not many joints do it in SoCal, but even then, they mix them over night so that the fish is marinated to those sauce. The best example is Bear Flag in Newport Beach. They definitely know how to make poke the right way. That's a tougher one to chew and definitely not a great thing. It's doable, but not satisfying. I didn't hate my experience, but as the growing poke market escalates in SoCal, this place will find themselves in the end of the pack in my opinion. read more

Located in a tiny inconspicuous plaza, next to a 7/11 and some other random stores, Poki Monster is quaint, clean and what I'll call unique. (They know the competition so they're trying to be competitive) It was empty when I came in the early afternoon, but that was a ok with me. It just meant that hopefully, the customer service would be on point to assist their only customer, me. And you know what. On point. Layout you're looking at something similar to Chipotle, serving line with a menu layout similar to what you'll see nowadays in a quick service eatery. 1. Choose your bowl size and base. White rice, brown rice, salad, or nacho base. Or split it with a Half/half option. 2. Choose your meats, 3 choices with regular, 5 with large. Standard affair, salmon, spicy salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, shrimp and scallops and albacore. 3. Choose your sides, I recommend the masago, avocado (doesn't cost extra) crab meat (for extra seafood protein) and furikaze flakes. 4. Sauce. Sauce. Sauce. VOLCANO SAUCE #3 It was my first time and the guy behind the counter knew it and helped me pick my choices. Very helpful. Portion size is decent. It's not breaking the bank but at the same time not a steal, they use a scooper to portion out the fish so don't expect to get heaping portion of fish. If you're in the area, definitely worth a try. caveat, if you're in the area, because it's slightly in the more rural part of Fullorton/Brea. This is coming from a native of Westminster/Fountain Valley so it was slightly a drive for me, but I was in the area already. read more

My new favorite poki spot! So glad one opened near my house, I don't have to drive all the way down to Anaheim for Pokinometry anymore. It's in a small plaza on the corner of the street. Parking lot only has a few spaces. I'm hoping this place doesn't get popular too quick... I hate having to wait for my poki bowls! They have almost everything you want for your poki bowls. Choice between 3 scoops of fish for the regular or 5 scoops for the large, costs about $9 and $11 respectively. You get all the toppings and sauces you want, I think only avocado costs extra. The only thing missing is some yellowtail. They have tuna, salmon, albacore, spicy tuna, scallops, and shrimp for your fish choices, but my favorite is yellowtail which sadly, they don't have. But I think it's still a good place to go to satisfy my poki cravings without having to drive too far. read more

It was very crowded and the line was long. i understand that the workers wanted to get people in and out but the way they were serving people was kind of rude. The first person in the line of making the bowls would beckon the customer to come to the front even if they were very far from the beginning of the line. My recent visit to Southern California area, I had the most intriguing dish I have ever tried before. It was Hawaii originated Poki (Poke) bowl which the customer choose from various base (brown/white rices, or nacho), mostly vegitable toppings and some fresh fish. The fish was juicy and toppings were very fresh! But the most fascinating part of this unique dish was it's sauce! I chose Volcano #1 and I loved it!! First, I was hesitated to try a new food but the staff, a young man, was very patiently helprd me preparing my Poki bowl. Before I left the area, I visited another Poke restaurant in downtown LA, but it was not quite good as Poki Monster... I don't think we have (at least I know) such authentic Hawaiian dish In Washington DC area. As I often visit California area, I definitely would visit this resturant and try other Poki bowls! read more

Located on Lambert and Brea, Poki Monster was a bit of a drive for my half hour lunch break. I am glad I stopped by because it's going to be a great option when I feel like taking a longer lunch. For my 3 scoop regular (~$9), I got Base: brown rice and salad Fish: salmon, tuna, and bay scallop Topping: everything except ginger and pineapple Sauce: volcano #1 (mild) Finish: sesame seeds and furikake Service was efficient, and you can be in and out very quick. The fishes tasted fresh and were decently portioned. The toppings felt a bit skimpy, but the large variety made up for it. I liked that they have shredded seaweed as a topping which is not common at other poke places. Get a stamp card, and the 10th poke bowl is free. read more

Poke places popping up all over OC/LA now! But I'm not complaining :) anyways so I tried this poke place last night and it was pretty decent. Not bad, but not the best. I prefer Pokinometry over this place. Since the concepts are the same. Pretty much poke Chipotle style. You choose whatever size you want & then the base. So either salad, rice, or chips. Then you choose whichever fish you want & then the toppings. I do like that they have seaweed salad as a choice, Pokinometry does not have that. But anyways, the one thing that I wish they did was mix the sauce you wanted with the fish, instead of just pouring it over on top. I didn't like that they don't have albacore. Either they don't serve it or they ran out for the day, I don't know. Anyways, if I'm ever in the Brea area & I wanted poke & didnt want to drive too far to get any, I would come here. They have 8 options of fish but, when it was time to order the fish they only had 2 option -Tuna and Scallops -_-. Make sure you get a loyalty card - after nine bowls your tenth bowl is free! Pricing here is pretty standard for your typical poke place. The regular order is $8.95, which gets you 3 scoops of fish. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 because the parking was miserable. Been on a poke craze lately with all the new places opening up, really wanted to try this place since it was so close by to where I am. Parking in this plaza is terrible. Probably around 20 parking spots total in this plaza and it took me 3 rounds of circling in and out of the plaza to get a parking spot. The worst part is that there is no additional plaza or street parking nearby so as a fair warning: be prepared to walk from the plaza next to Wells Fargo. Restaurant itself is pretty small, about 7 tables so once again, be prepared to take your meal home even though you had the intention of eating there. The good part is that there isn't a lot of options, so you can pretty much go into the line and decide on the spot. I went ahead and got the regular option for $8.95 (3 fish) instead of the large option (5 fish) for $11.95. Looking back, glad I did since they don't give a lot of fish. For my 3 choices, I got the salmon, yellowtail (hamachi) and scallop (no albacore that day). They skimped pretty badly on the yellowtail which I wasn't too happy about. I went with the white rice and pretty much got all the toppings and as an added bonus, the avocado was free which is nice (if you want extra it's $0.75). Sauce I went with the Spicy Mayo which was the perfect level of spicy for me. Finally to the eating portion: after mixing everything together, I really liked the flavor. A lot of the other poke flavors have sauces that are overwhelming, but you could actually taste the flavors of the toppings on here. Fish was pretty fresh and the portion was pretty good for sub $10 poke. Glad that a poke place opened up nearby so I can get my poke cravings satisfied without having to drive too far. read more

This is my 2nd favorite make your own poke bowl place that I've tried, next to Pokinometry because to me no place can top their sauce. Pros: I like how they have that seaweed salad as one of the choices for toppings. The containers they are served in are perfect size. Regular size gets me full. Fish appears to be fresh. I feel that the customer service is good. All around great except for 2 cons: Cons: They are inconsistent with their servings. Sometimes they have been stingy with toppings and fish, but sometimes they give a generous amount. I've been here a few times where I've had to turn around and go home because they were closed. The day has come. My rating for this place has come to a 1-star. Let me tell you what I think is going on here. It seems like this restaurant is under new ownership now. Why? 1. Menu items changed slightly 2. Fewer selection of drinks 3. Small bowl container changed to a smaller container 4. Owner/manager is now working the front and this is never a good sign..... Whenever I see an owner working in the front, I just know that they are trying to save budget by cutting payroll. This means they will be cutting lots of costs all over the restaurant, especially the cost of food. Sure enough, I find disgusting pieces of fish in my spicy salmon today. During the almost-2-years of my visits to this place, I have never seen fish that is not fresh. This salmon was downright BROWN. Are they kidding me? I can't even tell what part of the fish these tiny pieces are. Needless to say, it tasted strange. And I had to immediately spit out one piece of shrimp because it tasted like fungus. Come on, people... you can do better. And what got me so disappointed to the point of writing this final review is when I opened my little cup of spicy mayo on the side. It was half-filled. Seriously? Let me tell ya, whatever the previous owner was doing right, this new owner is throwing down the drain. You can't do this to your new business and expect the same revenue. Came here with my friend after the gym because were trying to be healthy and decided to try it out because we knew it just opened not to long ago. Cute little place, kinda odd set up but serves was good. I didn't have any problems with my food and thought it was ok (not that good for how much it was) but my friend did get a piece of fish or shrimp that she said 'didn't taste quite right' and got grossed out couldn't finish. read more

Who are they kidding use 1 cm scope multiple times so it seem lots of fish is given. We had half and half. Rice is decent sushi rice. The chip is typical salsa chip. They should use the asian rice cracker. As earlier poster stated, fish does not have flavor because the place does not marinated the fish and apply as you order. Paying $3 for large where the bowl size is same is not a good choice. It might take awhile for me to revisit this place. read more

Came here for lunch after class with the boyfriend. We were starving and poki sounded so good. They don't have small sizes here. Only medium and large, but I always get a medium anyways. Portion looked a little smaller than other places, but it could have been because we were starving. They have a great variety of fish. Got the salmon, tuna, and spicy salmon. They also have a larger variety of sides than other places. The volcano sauce is a go to if you like a nice kick. read more

Well, the dispenser wasn't working, so I notified the person working behind the counter and let him know that it wasn't working properly. His response, "it's not?, well I wash my hands here", pointing to the one behind the counter. I let him know that it's kind of gross to be serving or eating fresh fish and no one can wash their hands. That's a health concern to me. I lost my appetite. He didn't seemed concerned that it was an issue. He didn't try to go the extra step to say he'll notify his management or will take a look at it. Just "okay" to stop me from talking. First timer! I usually go to Pokinometry down in Anaheim, so I thought it would be nice to go somewhere else for a change. The service is definitely awkward.
