First timer! I usually go to Pokinometry down in Anaheim, so I thought it would be nice to go somewhere else for a change. The service is definitely awkward. The day has come. My rating for this place has come to a 1-star. Let me tell you what I think is going on here. It seems like this restaurant is under new ownership now. Why? 1. Menu items changed slightly 2. Fewer selection of drinks 3. Small bowl container changed to a smaller container 4. Owner/manager is now working the front and this is never a good sign..... Whenever I see an owner working in the front, I just know that they are trying to save budget by cutting payroll. This means they will be cutting lots of costs all over the restaurant, especially the cost of food. Sure enough, I find disgusting pieces of fish in my spicy salmon today. During the almost-2-years of my visits to this place, I have never seen fish that is not fresh. This salmon was downright BROWN. Are they kidding me? I can't even tell what part of the fish these tiny pieces are. Needless to say, it tasted strange. And I had to immediately spit out one piece of shrimp because it tasted like fungus. Come on, people... you can do better. And what got me so disappointed to the point of writing this final review is when I opened my little cup of spicy mayo on the side. It was half-filled. Seriously? Let me tell ya, whatever the previous owner was doing right, this new owner is throwing down the drain. You can't do this to your new business and expect the same revenue. I had used the restroom to wash my hands prior to ordering and eating. The soap dispenser had the typical sign above it, "Employees Must Wash Hands..". Well, the dispenser wasn't working, so I notified the person working behind the counter and let him know that it wasn't working properly. His response, "it's not?, well I wash my hands here", pointing to the one behind the counter. I let him know that it's kind of gross to be serving or eating fresh fish and no one can wash their hands. That's a health concern to me. I lost my appetite. He didn't seemed concerned that it was an issue. He didn't try to go the extra step to say he'll notify his management or will take a look at it. Just "okay" to stop me from talking. The Poke there is DELICIOUS. The owner is rude and disrespectful. She rushes people, refuses to give extra sauces on the side (other poke places do it no problem), she has literally yanked sauce bottles away from customers. The parking here can be difficult during peak hours, as the plaza is rather small, but I've had no trouble finding parking in the afternoons. Poki Monster is the first poke place that I tried and it introduced me to the wonderful world of poke. For its price, the restaurant gives out a sizable amount of food and seafood, and the seafood has been relatively fresh every time I've visited. The only downside to Poki Monster is that avocado costs extra, while for many of its competitors in the area, it is included in the base price. The service has been good - not many complaints there. When we heard that Poki Monster had opened in our neighborhood, we wanted to check it out right away. We got a parking space right in front and there was no line when we got there for dinner on Tuesday. My husband ordered a regular bowl with salmon, spicy salmon, and albacore. I ordered my regular bowl with salmon, albacore, and tuna. They were pretty generous with the fish and toppings. One scoop of avocado didn't cost extra, but I was tempted to pay extra for more avocado. The fish was fresh and delicious. All of the toppings were tasty and the sauce was just right. Don't forget to get the furikake seasoning. The meal seemed healthy, especially with brown rice & salad. After we finished eating, Steve (who we think is the manager) came by to ask us how the food was. He even told us how their poke is different from the traditional Hawaiian style: at Poki Monster they add sauce at the end, and traditionally the sauce/seasonings would already be combined with the fish ahead of time. There's a monster under my bed! Well if it's the Poki Monster I hope it multiplies like gremlins! We had a great meal the other day at Poki Monster over in Brea. For all the yelpers that compared this to Chipotle, I would agree thematically. It is like that or Freebirds or any assembly line style place where they build your meal before you while ensuring fresh ingredients. Here is how it works: 1a) Choose a bowl size: Either you can get a regular bowl for $8.95 which allows for 3 scoops of a fish OR 5 scoops at $11.95. Last week I got 3 scoops and while it was totally enough food for me, next time I'm getting 5 scoops because for $3 what was I thinking? 1b) Choose your base: You can get white/brown rice on the bottom, chips (like nachos) or urban salad. I got salad as a healthy choice but the evil voice on my shoulder said get the chips! 2) Next you choose your Fish: You can get scoops of Tuna, Spicy Tuna, Salmon etc and if you need more protein you can add that for $1.50. I got Spicy Tuna, Yellow tail and Salmon and while they are fairly small scoops of protein, you don't feel shorted and I wasn't disappointed at the quality. It's not Yagi....but come on this is faster food. 3) After your fish selection you get to choose toppings like crab meat (yes that's free but beware it's like the inside of a CA roll so yummy but has mayo), avocado (again, seriously, that's included?), cucumber, ginger, wasabi etc. You can get one of everything on the topping list for the included price or if you want an extra scoop of avocado for example, you can pay 75 cents...whuhhht? 4) Finish off your meal with your choice of sauce. You can choose ponzu sauce (like I did), spicy mayo, sesame or different levels of volcano sauce Then you run out of there to get home and stuff your face! I told her I asked for white rice and she said she wouldn't give me white rice even though white rice is on their menu. It also says they have octopus on their menu; they don't. This place is unique. For one the location is a bit unusual. Next to seven eleven and auto parts store lurks a poke bowl paradise? Its like Wall E where the green plants grows in all that rubble. Never tried a poki bowl before- Hot damn it was good! got a regular bowl for 8.95 your choice of 3 scoops of meats. Did spicy salmon/tuna/cooked shrimp. They mix up all the meats before they put it in the bowl. Add all the toppings except- onions/pineapple/green onion. I selected half brown rice/chips. Chips were a bit stale and rice a bit hard. if they could make rice like Chipotle they might become unstoppable in the food chains(hint to owner). Seafood was refreshing and delicious. I was concerned about freshness and my concerns were put to bed. Tuna and Spicy Salmon was tasty and did not a fishy smell. Toppings were good- avocado/crab/cucumbers/masago/ginger/cilantro/tomato/nori/seame seeds/etc I got Ponzu/volcano #1/Seame oil/ and Spicy Mayo on the side. Honestly the bowl did not needed the sauce. Mediocre. I was super excited about a new poke spot opening up in north OC (they seem to be popping up everywhere these days) but it was just ok. Poki Monster is Chipotle style where you choose your base, fish, unlimited toppings and sauce. Pick from regular (3 scoops of fish) or large (5 scoops). They skimp hardcore on the fish but pack your bowl with toppings. I probably won't be coming back as I have my go-to poke spots. Was near by and Poke was in my mind. After having Poki Monster in my bookmark for months, I decided "hey why not". The set up is very similar to all the other Poke bowl places (Chipotle Style) prices are also very similar to the other local poke joints. The fish were all very fresh looking and they seem to have a lot of side selections. Great clean, modern decor and staff were all very very nice. I am not sure why, but I still feel like I like Oke Poke more. Either or, Poki Monster is in a convenient location right next to 7/11. Everything looked clean and everything tasted good. But it all ends there. Look and taste doesnt mean that the food is clean and bacteria free. I ate here the evening of December 30, 2015 and my stomach has been battling through a war ever since. From bouts with shivering chills, to body aches, unbelievable stomach cramps and explosive diarrhea for the last 3 days...if you consider this healthy and a way to lose weight, go ahead and eat here. But if you want to avoid the STOMACH FLU avoid this place at all costs. I thought id try this place since other poke places were about 7-8miles away and Poki Monster was only 4. Poki bowl places have been invading the Southern California region as of late, this is the third place I've tried and very satisfied that the best of three is located the closes to home! Besides, how could I not try a place called "Poki Monster"? Easy menu, select what you want much like a chipotle for a poki bowl. A variety of fish selections with the obvious salmon and tuna in the mix. Quality of fish is what you would expect from a fast pace dining experience. Therefore, no complaint from me. If you want to complain about getting top notch fish, then you should be going to an upscale fine dining and pricy sushi restaurant. For the price per bowl, I think this is more than what you could ask for. I ordered the spicier sauce which I was very pleased with, I like a little heat in the mix. A really nice seasoning package, I really can't think of anything negative to say about the meal. The inside décor is really nice and clean, modern and refreshing. Good color contrast on the walls with the hints of Hawaii, makes it soothing and relaxing, but hip and alive at the same time. I was really disappointed with this place. Unfortunately the staff was kind of awkward, and one of the girls asked me which toppings I would like and just walked away. The guy who first helped me was kind enough to eventually come back and finish up my bowl. Whatever, not a huge deal. I had ordered the spicy tuna, albacore and shrimp, and when I started eating I kept getting these absolutely rancid, funky fishy pieces of fish! This place is just like pokinometry down in Anaheim - in other words, it's chipotle but poke style. When I came here I got a regular size bowl, half brown rice and half salad, and got two scoops of salmon and one scoop of spicy salmon. The scoop sizes they use look tiny when they put it in your bowl, but it's actually a good amount once you start eating your food. I chose a lot of random toppings too because quite honestly, I never know what to add to my poke bowl to make it taste good. But mm poke! I liked! Oh, parking sucks here though. Okay, so the customer service issues seem to have been resolved since my first visit. In the interest of full disclosure, reparations were made by management to compensate for the poor service I experienced, but I waited to update my review until after I had been a couple more times to make sure that they remained consistent, and I have not been disappointed. That being said, it is the best option for poke in Brea...but keep in mind it's also pretty much the only option in Brea. On a side note, a couple of their toppings are a little eyebrow-raising, like the pineapple. I've said this before about other Hawaiian-style places- you can't really Hawaiian up every dish just by adding pineapple. I would love to see a crispy garlic or kukui nut instead. This was my first visit to Poke Monster and I was quite impressed first off by the cleanliness of the store, secondly, I was impressed by the number of selections they offered, thirdly I was impressed by their prices, the large bowl was only $15.00 and you got 5 scoops of protein, not 3 like other poke restaurants, they have plenty of places to sit, and lastly the staff at Poke Monster was very friendly and knowledgeable, and gave you time to make a selection, however, this was at their slow time so I was their only customer, but, as I was getting ready to leave two couples came into the store, my only negative was the serving size of their Miso soup could if been more generous, all in all a very pleasant experience, I will be returning at least once a week to get another large bowl which serves me three or four extra meals, depending on how hungry I am. read more

This place is a little slice of heaven tucked into a totally random place, and honestly speaking, had my co-workers not have told me to go there, I probably wouldn't have because of the location (sorry! Got the sesame oil/spicy mayo/ponzu sauce combo and it was pretty bland with no hint of spice at all in the spicy mayo. Maybe there would have been more of a kick to it if I had just had the spicy mayo alone. I normally like cucumber as a topping but did not like that their cucumber was pickled. This is another one of those poki joints that has started to pop up around Orange County. Nothing special. The fish seems to be fresh but not the freshest, and the toppings are given generously. As far as service goes, they could learn a thing or two about efficiency; the burrito makers of chipotle are much quicker. There is a large number of sides such as: avocado, ginger, crabmeat, cucumber, green onion, seaweed salad, edamame, cilantro, and pineapple. The decor is nice and themed appropriately, but the music really takes away from the food. The owner must really like early 2000's R&B or something, because that's all I've heard. Listening to intense soulful music is not what I would want to enjoy a light-hearted bowl of poki too, but that's just my opinion.
