This was the case today, when I worked with the Cracker Barrel OCS on Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach, Virginia. There was a situation that required a bit of nuance. And, it would be taking place at a particularly challenging time of the day. The lunch rush. Not to put to fine of a point on it, I was asking for a lot. Many others would have politely refused. But, not these guys. This team... every team member, from the first person with whom I spoke to Mike M, a member of the leadership team, was professional, courteous and actively-listened. Mike, who ultimately took care of everything, went above and beyond, meeting my already-high expectations of Cracker Barrel, and then promptly exceeding them. I recently visited Cracker Barrel for a late breakfast and was overall happy with our experience. This location is located outside of the lynnhaven mall so it's a perfect place to stop before walking the mall or headed to Dave and busters! Their dining area is large, I thought the service was friendly but a little slow considering there were a lot of empty tables. The food did not disappoint! Plenty of options and large portions. The cleanliness of the restaurant could be improved but it didn't stop us from enjoying the meal. We met here for breakfast and to be honest, wouldn't be a place of choice, but I can see the appeal. We had our 5-year-old with us, and she was thrilled to be in the shop. That was the highlight of the outing for sure! So many nostalgic goodies in there, old-style candies you would have a hard time finding (grew up with it), and lots of cool things to browse. Ended up getting her an ornament that was fun. As far as the dining experience? The service was okay but on the slower side and had a few mistakes getting all the orders correct. They did try to address and make it right, which was cool. The overall vibe of the place was not something we would entertain. A very big, open space clearly designed to take on lots of people, and that is pretty much what you get. Food didn't taste bad with plenty of options but nothing really to write home about. We could spend the same money and have a totally different experience that suits our liking. If you want a cool shop to break up the time while waiting, decent food, and a big, family-style setting, this may fit the bill. Oh, they do have some pretty good deals, such as buy a meal and get a second one for 5 bucks, so I do appreciate that as well. It has its place for many people and has been around for a reason. It took 20 to 25 minutes for three of us to get our food; my brother-in-law did not get his until i got up and complained to a manager, three of us had finished eating and were ready to leave. My brother-in-law had his meal packaged to go. we asked for napkins but never received them all while three young (ladies) servers were at the back of the dining room socializing with a naval aviator (he was in uniform). The prices can not be beat. I always by some treats before I go and that is always easy and there's always new items coming in. The atmosphere is always filled with the noise of family conversations. Service was great. Our server, Alex, smiled consistently, and asked if everything to our satisfaction. Food was mediocre. The shrimp had little flavor. It tastes like batter mostly. Hush puppies were ok. My both sides were more on the plus side. They do give you plenty, so I took the rest to go. Women's restroom was not up to par. There was toilet paper everywhere. read more

The Food was Terrible here! My Family and I came here for Dinner last night, and were Seated right away. We placed our Orders for both Food and Drinks. The Drinks came about 5 minutes later while we waited for our Food. My Wife and I both ordered the Grilled Chicken Tenders with 2 Sides. I ordered the Green Beans and Fried Apples, and my Wife got Broccoli and Cole Slaw. My Daughter got the Dinner Special which was Beef Tips with Gravy along Fried Apples and Mac and Cheese! That tasted like School Paste, and that's an Insult to School Paste! Anyway, the Fried Apples tasted like they came from the Can of Apple Filling for Apple Pie. The Green Beans were from a Can, not Fresh at all! My Wife and I's Chicken Tenders were Burnt and Over Cooked that they were Dried out inside! The Biscuits and Corn Bread were Dried out as well and the Butter was almost Frozen Solid that you could not get it out of the Little Containers that they come in! The Water that my Wife and I got were Luke Warm with just a couple of Ice Cubes in it, and my Daughter's Drink was Terrible as well! She said the Mimosa tasted like it was from a Can of Hawaiian Punch with just a little bit of Alcohol in it! The Waitress stopped by once to drop off the Check, and barely asked if anything was alright and left before we could reply! We will come to this Location again until Standards are Better! There are other Locations have Better Food and Higher Standards to how Cracker Barrel should be! I like this place. It looks like every other Cracker Barrel so if you have been to one you have been to all. They all look relatively the same. There was the typical rocking chairs and checker board tables as well as the old creepy Victorian photos and paintings. Our waitress was good and she let us know that there was only one cook in the back. I would say, the cook was lucky there weren't too many folks in the restaurant. The food was delicious but here is why I took a star off. The broccoli casserole looked like it was cooked a while ago, probably because there was only one cook. It took a bit to get our appetizer and by the time we took a bite, there was our food. I'm not sure why the appetizer was served on paper because it ripped due to the cheese. Had to pick paper off of it prior to eating. I requested gravy on the side but it came on the chicken. I do recommend coming to this location. It's clean, the folks are friendly and the food although tonight it was just ok is usually for the most part good. read more

We went to Cracker Barrel for an early dinner. When we arrived the restaurant didn't have many people inside so we got a table right away. Our waiter Taeqwan was very nice and informative and answered all our questions. He made sure our drinks were refilled and kept checking on us. The restaurant was clean and they had the fireplace lit. So that was nice. My friend ordered grits, blueberry pancakes, cheesy eggs, and hash browns. I ordered the deep fried turkey dinner with double mac n cheese and a side of green beans, and loaded potato tots. The loaded tots were hot and fresh. Very good!! You don't get a big portion. It's about 10 tots, so I would have liked more. But I enjoyed them. The turkey dinner looked good, just like on the menu. But taste wise it was tough bland turkey. The gravy didn't help and they both were bland. The Mac n cheese was dry, in the past it was cheesy, but this was dried out and was like just eating noodles. The green beans were ok, but again flavorless!! It came with a dollop of cranberry sauce. The cranberry sauce was ok but the tiny drop they give you wasn't enough for the dry turkey. The biscuits and cornbread I received were cold, the butter wouldn't even melt, and they were hard as ever. I even picked the biscuit up and dropped it so the waiter could see what I was talking about. Even he had to laugh. The biscuits were overcooked, dry, and hard. I don't think they serve the same ones I've had in the past. My friends blueberry pancakes looked really good. So I was going to order some to go. She let me taste them and I'm glad she did. They tasted like nothing. I don't know how but it was like eating flour with blueberries. No vanilla, butter, sugar, or any kind of flavor at all. I wish I could have gotten my money back or something else off the menu, but we didn't have time to wait. So I left it alone because they began to get busier inside. Every time I return I pray it's better than the time before but it just isn't. My meal was $19 and not worth it. I like Cracker Barrel, they have decent prices, and the store is really nice. But my whole meal left me wanting to leave and eat something else. I hope things improve. The staff was friendly and checkout was pretty easy. Went to celebrate husbands 64th birthday lunch told us about 30 minute wait,there was 10 of us...ok I get it we were a lot but come on,an hour and 10 minutes later they call us we get our table. Another 20 minutes waiting for waitress. There ended up being 2 waitresses 5 people each one. They took our drink orders no problem. One came got one side of the table the other came to the other side. Ok we wait, here we're all hungry no biscuits,no corn bread nothing but drinks. Finally appetizers came another 30minutes pass no food. Finally the one side got their food another 30 minutes go by and we get our order and mine was wrong, ten minutes later finally get my food, the waitresses would come put stuff on one side of the table and we had to pass them amongst ourselves. We went there last night to have dinner. We all got breakfast which they serve all day long. My husband and sister both got 2 eggs, 4 slices of french toast and bacon. Paid almost $12.00 each for it. The french toast all 4 slices were burned and my sister had to send her eggs back twice. She told them she was the yoke to be runny and both times it was hard. i asked for extra butter and I had to ask twice for it. I had 2 pancakes. Service was shabby. The waiter was not very social. Took our order and until the bill came, we never saw him again. He was complaining about how slow it was. He was not happy to be there. Not on my list to go back anytime soon. read more

First time visiting this chain and I actually thought it was pretty good. If you want comfort food and not counting calories, this is your spot. The only issue is staffing, as everywhere. I give 4 stars because we waited a long time for the host while the staff in the store area just kept to themselves behind the counter. It's Cracker Barrel. Good for the soul, not necessarily for the digestive system. To be honest, this was my first-ever cracker barrel experience and I would say that it met my expectations. Service was fantastic, food was mediocre, but all in all its an average chain restaurant with greasy southern dishes. We shared the Country Fried Steak, which I wouldn't get again. Not because anything was wrong with it... just didn't make me feel very good. Loved the green beans, but the okra was soggy and the mac was under seasoned. Good food all day and night! This is comfort food at its best! They make the best French toast. It is deliciously sweet and filling! I absolutely adore the mini syrup bottles that are brought out. The service here is good, so that's also a bonus. My coffee cup is never empty when I eat here! The lovely little shop inside is another bonus. They have lots and lots of candies! Completely thrilled with this Cracker Barrel. We came in the store today in a rainy ,cold, nasty day.We were greeted at the door and walked over to the host waiting to be seated. The host was professional and courteous. The fire was warm and inviting . He sat us in Mikayla's section. She came over to us bringing us a great smile and her order book. She and Evan were both very profession. We were greeted by Mikayla who brought us our drinks and even a basket f biscuits before we ordered which was a welcome site in a day like thisWe were so hungry. The food was hot, and tasted wonderful. I even asked her if there was surcharge on the eggs. She said no, my eggs were cooked exactly as I asked for them to be, Mikayla was a top notch waitress. She brought us ketchup and honey as we asked and checked in us periodically to see if we needed anything else.While we waited I noticed Evan waiting on the table in front of us. I was very impressed by both of these young people always a smile and very helpful.As someone who likes Cracker Barrel ,this location restored my belief in the brand. I have been to a lot of Cracker Barrel locations throughout my life and I have had some incredible experiences and some pretty bad ones. For this particular location though, I have visited probably about 3 times and each time I go it does get better. While it isn't the best, it's certainly not the worst. Today we had a waiter, Ezekiel, who definitely made an impression. I get really anxious when ordering or making decisions and he stepped in quickly to help with the decision process without discounting my anxiety or rushing me at all. He attended to a few tables around us and kept his stellar attitude to each one. The food this time was also very yummy- took some time, but they were busy (always a good sign) and we didn't mind the wait. The atmosphere is very typical for a Cracker Barrel as they all pretty much look the same, homey, cluttered with vintage signs and country :) it's always enjoyable coming to Cracker Barrel and I'm happy there's a location near by. read more

Came here twice. Once with my family, and once for a double date. Both times were just okay. The first time we had two servers as I suppose our party was 8 people. I believe Lyndsey and Emily were our servers. Emily took care of my side and was great. Not super chatty and definitely didn't hover. Lyndsey was the one who'd check in more often and we'd ask for items. Sometimes she'd bring them quick, sometimes she'd get lost. After she dropped the check off, we asked for a togo cup for coffee but she never came back. We'd see her come out and check her other tables, but we finally found Emily who quickly brought our final items. Our second visit we again got Emily, and had a smooth service. The silverware. Almost all of silverware had two forks and a knife. We had to ask for spoons. That's a little crazy. The second time we came, only two of the four had spoons. Again, asked for spoons. The food both times was a let down. Back in GA, the food is addicting. Here, it was really bland and I didn't even want to bring any of it home. The roast beef was sad and tough to chew, and the Mac and cheese wasn't cheesy and didn't taste fresh at all. And they put it with the brown gravy. You couldn't have put it on the side? Ugh. The second time we came the scrambled eggs were just okay, and the sugar ham was beyond dry. No amount of ketchup would have saved it. The hostess was nowhere to be found and the cashier was questioning as to why I was standing around near the restaurant entrance. Our server was nice but failed to bring us clean utensils when we asked for replacements. Instead he brought ANOTHER pair of dirty utensils. Cracker Barrel in general is fine. This is a review on the hot and ready thanksgiving dinner. The meal was pres pared nicely. It was hot and there as a lot of it. The price is fair. The taste and quality of the food is a different story. The Mac and Cheese was terrible. Ours had so much cheese that is was like soup. Our green beans had no flavor. The sweet potatoes were bland as could be. They literally just mash the potatoes and without adding any seasoning, sugar, or flavor. The stuffing is terrible. Is cornbread stuffing, which I find disgusting. It's dry and there is not flavor. Again, the dressing would have been better with some cooked peppers, onions, sausage in it. The turkey was fine, but this is the part you get the least of. The rolls tasted like several day old bread that had been left out on the counter. It was dry hamburger rolls. The pumpkin pie was absolute garbage! Who made this pie. Ours was so terrible that we couldn't eat it. The pie crust had so much salt we couldn't eat the crust. Instead of a crust it's like bread. The pumpkin filling is ok but tastes salty. We threw our meal away.... I will buy this from Cracker Barrel again. Cracker Barrel does not know how to make Thanksgiving dinner. read more

Well to our surprise all the bad things we heard were true. We were sitted promptly, and the rest was history. No one ever came to our table, however tables around us were serviced. We waited 20 mins (in my efforts to teach my teenage son patience and understanding) and still no one. At the 30 min mark we got up spoke with Manager and he just asked what sit I was at and walked away.. no resolution.. needless to say I wasn't going to force them to take my hard earned dollars.
