Half 1/2 Chicken with 2 Sides Combo
    Scott B.

This little gem is now my go to for Peruvian style chicken. This kind of place is really what the Yelp community is about in my opinion. Came here after I pulled into piada (my go to spot for a quick bite in the neighborhood) and looked it up on Yelp to see if it was worth a shot and I'm glad I got to try it. Let's get into it: First things first I got a half chicken with plantains and the avocado salad. The chicken was juicy and delicious, but the green salsa that comes with it is really what put this dish over the top for me. The plantains were cooked perfectly, and the salad was surprisingly good. All of that for only $15.00!? Will definitely be coming back.. Chicken 9.1/10 Salad 8.4/10 Plantains 9/10

delicious chicken + sides. whole chicken with 5 sides $36.99 - salchipapas, rice, cup of charro beans, avocado salad bowl, platanos fritos plate. quick table service. bar inside. small limited parking lot in shared plaza.

    Lomo Saltado. $16 for this.

$16 for this lomo saltado. Terrible. Service is not great either even for takeout. Wife got fried spicy casava and spicy fries it's literally not even cooked and they threw the whole paprika seasoning in this. We had to put them in the air fryer to make them edible. Definitely not returning.

    That's one brave chicken

If Mel Gibson yelled "you can take our lives, but you'll never take our chicken!" it's be "Pollo Braveheart." This review has been heavily edited for content to make it more PG-13, by request, even though half of Yelp isn't. And if female diners get chafed while eating here because their upper-half undergarment is too tight, then that's "Pollo Bra-straps." What to get: Chicken with Salchipapa as a side. What not to get: Stuck being the side pollo of your Saltypapa. We love this place, and come often, so to speak. They offer some of the best Peruvian chicken out there. If you pick the right locations which are usually Hillcroft and Long Point and this one, you're talking about some of the best rotisserie chicken you can get. If you order correctly the prices are cheap, and the service at this particular location can be truly wonderful. It's located directly across from our fave tanning salon, and I intend to keep coming back regularly. Pollo Bravo is easily the best Peruvian chicken in Texas, of the ones I've tried. They have four or five locations (it may be more by now) and several of them serve delicious moist tender perfect Peruvian-Mexican Fusion rotisserie chicken with amazing green sauce, other locations do it less well. I don't like fusion food, but this is authentic traditional Peruvian with a little Mexican on the menu here and there, so it works. Nobody is butchering any cuisine here. It's the real sh**, and it's very affordable too. And if Barbie and some of her Los Angeles based, similarly-enhanced friends come here for a work dinner put on by their fave company, it'd be "Pollo Brazzers." Their sides are all excellent especially the Salchipapas (as opposed to Salt N Pepa... but don't push it) (as opposed to your Salty Papa... I know a good therapist?) which are delicious French fries mixed with hot dogs. It tastes a lot better than it sounds. Like my Aunt with the voicebox. The only negative is that I have tried their desserts, and while they are highly rated I didn't really love either of them. But then I don't come here for the desserts. I come here for the best Peruvian chicken and sides in Houston. If you think there's a better one in the state - Peruve it. Brief word for the person that complained (who does so because they are competing to have more reviews than me, not because there's anything wrong with my reviews) - every single time one of my reviews is taken down, I literally cheer myself up by writing 5 extra reviews immediately to make up for it, usually saving as drafts to post later. So keep it up, as you're helping me write more and post more! And if it were located in Siberia, it'd be "Pullover Bravo" because it's so cold. If it were greasy and caused heart attacks, it'd be "Pulminary Bravo" and I'd advise not eating here. And if it were the people that rigged the 2000 election in Florida, it'd be "Polling Station Bravo" and they'd get away with it. Again.

    Chicken, fries, shrimp, taquitos, plantains

Ordered several things for dinner and they came promptly. We had the whole chicken, which was perfectly seasoned and super juicy. Also had sweet fried plantains, which are great mixed with the mexican rice and beans. Also enjoyed causa rellena (layer of shredded chicken between 2 layers of mashed potatoes), taquitos, and camarones a la brava. The taquitos were excellent - super crispy and doused with a delish green tomatillo sauce. I thought the causa rellena was a bit on the dry side. The camarones were tender and swimming in a copious amount of creamy chipotle sauce - this would go well with rice for leftovers. Service was friendly (we had called in for extra tomatillo sauce and they were very kind and helpful).

    Yes. It is that good.

Pollo Bravo esta de vuelta!!! When they closed their location just up Memorial, there was much sadness and speculation. Now that they are back, there is much rejoicing. This is without a doubt one of the best places you can procure rotisserie gallus domesticus in the city!! Half chicken? Check. Fried plantains? Check. Spanish Rice? Check. Sultry, spicy, finger lickin' green sauce?!?! OMG CHECK!!! And soon they will have beer. Guess I have to come back. Darn. Start with the 4 taquitos. Apply green sauce. Thank me later. The chicken is slightly spicy and remarkably tender. The flavor alone on this is so delicious that when you pair it with dat green sawce...well...your taste buds will thank you in the end. The rice is warm, moist, and slightly al dente. The fried plantains? I kept eating, and eating, and OMG STOP EATING THEM ALLLLLLLL!!!! So in case you cannot tell. You need to eat here. Sooner rather than later.

Poor service.. went last night drove 30 min raving to a friend about the food. We got there at 8 pm hours said they close at 9. A couple was walking out of the door pissed off saying " they didn't even greet us" we went in after them and nobody was in the restaurant.. walked over by the kitchen and asked if they were open. The lady didn't even respond... so I asked in Spanish, still no response. Another lady came in from the back room and says we are closed. I told her google says 9 pm. She said oh well and walked away. So we left understanding why that couple was mad.. went to Mambos and had a dope ass dinner with great service.

I've already contacted uber eats about the way this was delivered to me, but I now want to speak about the taste of the food. As a Peruvian and a traveler everywhere I go I take it upon myself to go on the hunt for good Peruvian food. So to have heard of this place and then see good reviews I said why not. Here's where I knew it wasn't going to be up to par, one it's a "Mexican, Peruvian" restaurant. You can't compare the two none the less try and cook both in the same place. Lomo saltado is such a trade mark meal for us and the taste is just not it at all. The rice taste like I got it from a Chinese restaurant the meat is extremely chewy and I could've made these French fries myself, this plate is supposed to be full of flavor but it isn't. Almost as if it was cooked fast I'm not sure but IT IS NOT PERUVIAN FLAVORS. As far as the "chicha" again another Peruvian juice I often look forward to drinking because it's so refreshing, this chicha tasted like water and some color. No type of flavor and nothing what I'm use too. Highly disappointed and quite frankly a disgrace to real Peruvian cooking!

1/4 chicken, green plantains, Mexican rice. That sauce tho!!!
    Nikki T.

The best chicken you'll ever eat. So tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. But somehow the sides are just as good. This is the perfect plate of food. I have never had a bad meal here. I don't normally stray from my usual order of 1/4 chicken, green plantains (tostones), and Mexican rice because it's so perfect. When I do, it's because the staff knows that everything else they serve is equally delicious and that I should try something out of my comfort zone. The sweet plantains are also yummy but I prefer the salty crunchiness of the green plantains. I love the causa rellena and the taquitos too. I could drink the green sauce by the gallon. I put it on everything and always ask for extra. This place has a very homey vibe. They're so nice and the food is like nothing else. Come here and try as much as you can. You won't be disappointed!

I was so shocked at how delicious this food was, I overate and couldn't breathe for a while lmao! The ONLY thing was the meat was dry, other than that! The flavors are impeccably perfected and the taste was out of this world well done

Nice cozy place, perfect setting for fried chicken. I am sure they had other stuff, but that was the mission for this visit. Started with fried pickle spears, probably the best I have ever had, no joke. Perfect coating, taste and preparation. I like the spears vs the chips. Had the special which was to legs and two thighs for the price of the 3 pc dark. Beans and slaw. Ok, the chicken was great, moist, seasoned, very well cooked. I will go out of my way to go here for the chicken. Beans, canned with a little flavor added, nothing to brag about the slaw was pretty good. The fries on my friend's plate looked great. Perfect. We got here at about 1145, the place was busy. By 1215, it was packed, but they move people through and do a booming take out. Try it, you will like it. It satisfied my fried chicken desire and. The chicken itself was beautifully fried in peanut oil, and truly one of the best, juiciest, fried chicken pieces I have ever had. This place is an example of simplicity at its finest. I wasn't too impressed the first time, and this visit certainly confirmed my initial thoughts. For La Lucha's Happy Hour, you get a choice between 2 types of oysters ($1.50 each). These were great - do this on a weekday before 6pm and you should be able to grab a table without a reservation. Barely even after we started eating the oysters, the waitress was already asking if we wanted to order more, instead of allowing us to just enjoy our food without interruptions. The menus they gave at our table were inconsistent and had different menu items. I had to ask for clarification if the redfish was on the menu since it wasn't on two of the three menus given to us. So, quality control was a miss. Rest of the menu... is limited. Everything was so greasy, from the fried chicken, the redfish, and shrimp tacos. * Red fish with pecans - 6/10. The fish did not taste like it was seasoned with salt. It was well cooked, not dry at all, but it lacked any sort of seasoning aside from the butter and pecans on top. * Shrimp Tacos - 4/10. I think I prefer Taco Bell over this one. The shell was greasy, not crisp (felt like it was stale), and I was confused with the combination of American Cheese and shrimp. They also added hot sauce or spicy salsa in the tacos - so a warning if you can't handle spice (not mentioned on the menu). * Half Fried Chicken - 5/10. The chicken was moist. Been here once before and it was quite dry, so I'm glad this was cooked well. You get 2 thighs, a wing, and a drumstick (4pc). Again, there was a lack of any seasoning on the chicken itself & the exterior. Sadly, the sauce that we picked was not the best either - oyster mayo. It would've been nice to try the others, but the half order came with one sauce. The seasonal jam that was available was the peach jam. It went well with the biscuits (half order comes with 2 biscuits, any extra is $1.50). For my people who get cold in restaurants, I would recommend bringing a light jacket since they turn the A/C up.

Title: HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - DO NOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS…read more I have ordered from Mico's Hot Chicken more than 10 times, and this was by far the worst experience I've had. I placed an order for three lunch specials: two Chicken Caesar Salads and one Chicken Wings with Fries, along with two drinks--an Arnold Palmer and a lemonade. When the order arrived, both drinks were missing. I immediately contacted DoorDash and explained the situation. I reviewed the receipt that was stapled to the bag, and it clearly showed that two drinks were included in the order. I also spoke with the delivery driver, who told me that no drinks were provided to him by the restaurant. DoorDash customer service arranged for a redelivery. Unbelievably, when the second delivery arrived, the drinks were missing again. The second driver told us that he informed the restaurant the order was missing drinks, but one of the employees insisted that the drinks were already in the bag. That was a complete lie. There were absolutely no drinks in the bag. At that point, I was extremely frustrated. How does the same mistake happen twice on the same order? The delivery driver even said he was going to go back to the restaurant because he knew the drinks were missing. I contacted DoorDash again, only to be told they could not send another driver just for the drinks. I then tried calling Mico's HOt Chicken directly, but there was no way to speak with an actual person. The phone only goes to a voicemail recording, making it impossible to address the issue with the restaurant. I am honestly disgusted and appalled by the lack of accountability and customer service. I even provided photos showing exactly what was received. After being a repeat customer, I expected much better. Missing items once is frustrating; having the exact same mistake repeated after a redelivery is completely unacceptable. Very disappointing experience. I hope management takes customer complaints seriously and improves communication and order accuracy. Until then, I will think twice before ordering from this location again.

A big open lot with some food trucks and 2 random benches. Makes for a good late night dining spot after a night out. Standard hot chicken lineup with the sandwich, strips, combo, fries. I liked the halal options. The wrap with turnips did entice me a bit but went for the Sandwich + a side order of pecked fries. The service was efficient, got it out in about 10minutes. I liked the curry seasoning to the fries, the chicken was battered well and had a solid crunch/flavor. The sandwich itself is also a straightforward classic = standard brioche bun + pickles for garnish and a decent sized breast. I would say the "yummy sauce" is just a bit overwhelming for me, it's just everywhere when I unwrapped the sandwich.. It was a bit too creamy for my taste. Overall I liked the chicken and the menu for being halal, it was cooked well and the adjustable spice level is nice. But the Yummy sauce is sort of a miss for me. Not sure what's in it but too rich, 3.5/5, didn't quite stand out for me.

One of the best meals I've had all year, hand to GOD. If this place is even remotely on your radar,…read moreget there before they shut down in mid-July. It's worth making the trip now, not later. The menu is exceptionally well-curated, hitting that sweet spot of what Houston does best. comfort, creativity, and just enough flair to keep things interesting. The space matches the vibe: modern and minimalist with a subtle Chip-and-Joanna-Gaines touch. The drink menu is just as thoughtful. Even the well spirits are solid. We kicked things off with the deviled eggs topped with maple pork belly, easily some of the creamiest I've ever had. Do not split an order. Everyone at the table should get their own. For the entrée, I went with the Sunday enchiladas made with Killen's famous brisket. Smoke, salt, pepper and exactly what you want from a dish like this. It typically comes with Mexican rice and refried beans, but the rice was running behind during my visit, so I swapped in scrambled eggs (it was brunch) no complaints. They were simple buttery, creamy and just damn delicious. peach bread pudding that was downright decadent. Easily one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Make you wanna slap yo momma.

Ugh, it pains me to update this review on their last week of service at this location, but it was…read moresuch a lackluster experience. This is my first updated review on Yelp and not for the better. Since it was closing, my close friends and I wanted to go back one last time, especially for the peach bread pudding. One of our friends in the group hasn't been here before but was excited and to celebrate her birthday later since we were all out of town last weekend. This is going to close next Sunday and turn in to a gas station, which we literally don't need in this corner location of Heights Blvd and Washington Ave. I made a reservation while I was in Boston just in case. Our friend had called 2 weeks ago, and they told her there wasn't anything open because they were closed Sundays. They're not closed Sundays according to their hours of operation online. Weird. Everything started fine. Our server checked on us regularly. She couldn't answer any questions about the menu. She said she was new and didn't know it. Why would you hire a server who doesn't know the menu on the last week of service? That doesn't make sense. She repeatedly said that the whole time like how people say they couldn't do something because they were short staffed. The chicken fried chicken and chicken pot pie were solid. That was the entrees we chose, and some of us ordered a chicken pot pie to go. Apparently, we ordered the last few ones. Interesting because they just opened at 11 am, and we ordered to go right after the deviled egg appetizers, 15 minutes from opening. She tried to close out our tickets without asking about dessert. We had to tell her we weren't finished and wanted to order dessert. When it got to the dessert, we wanted the peach bread pudding and Texas sheet cake. They didn't have the cake, so we said ice cream. We thought it would pair well with the bread pudding. Then she said she doesn't know the ice cream flavors since she's new. So, she checked and came back to tell us there was no ice cream. Who knows if there were other desserts at this point. So, we said just the peach bread pudding. We got it, and when she placed it on the table, it didn't really have the tres leches sauce and absolutely NO PEACHES. Mind you, I've been here 4 times before and recommend this dessert to everyone. One of the most memorable peach bread puddings in Houston. Today just shattered that image. When the server asked if everything was ok, I said the dessert was missing the peaches. We hadn't even started eating it. She said she'd ask the kitchen. Nothing happened. We cut into the bread pudding thinking there might be some sliced peaches baked within, and the edge of the container was hot, but then one of our friends said the bread pudding itself was cold. It was cold. I remember it being warm with brulee'd peaches on top. The table next to us also ordered the same dessert, and they had peaches on top. Disappointing. She said the kitchen could make us some peaches. We said no. It's too late. The texture was gluttonous without the sauce and peaches. At the end of our meal, we all agreed it was a let down. Now we need a redemption brunch. Maybe it's for the best they're closing this Heights location.
