With Pollo in the name and with my missing El Pollo Loco, I HAD to try this place. One look at the menu and I was excited as much of it is similar (minus plantains) to El Pollo Loco. We ordered typical meals -- chicken, rice, beans and a few tacos. Everything was very tasty -- a little on the spicy side -- and definitely a good value. The only disappointments were that I ordered the grilled chicken, but did not see until I got home that all of the chicken was fried; and I ordered a side of flour tortillas, but was given corn. The employees are very nice and helpful. I absolutely will go back and I love that we have a quick chicken option that is not fried -- I just have to be more careful to emphasize "grilled" next time. read more

Keny was an excellent manager and the chicken was way better than expected. This was a first time for us but we were fully satisfied. When my order initially came out, I was given fries rather than the mashed potatoes (extra gravy) I had ordered. I let Keny know about the mix up and he immediately fixed it. My first visit here. A bit confusing to maneuver in the parking lot - but I was distracted by the duck in the nearby car wash. I ordered the grilled chicken with the corn salad and yucca fries. The chicken was FABULOUS, I have to say. Very flavorful, juicy, large pieces. The yucca fries (never had before anywhere) were good, but I didn't care for the corn salad. They were quick with my order in the drive-thru, and even suggested the horchata for the drink. Don't think I'll be a regular, since I traveled from the west bank to get here, but think I'd come back when time permits and try some of the other sides. read more

Visiting from out of town, we decided to come here.. what a big mistake!!! We wanted what was on the old menu. Now it just seems like regular chicken. No Latin style chicken was on the menu. To my surprise I normally wouldn't give 4 stars to a fast food joint but damn the citrus chicken empanada's are crack. After my 1st visit, I went there about 4 days in a row, seriously. Not only are the empanada's good, but the sides, chicken, Ranch tacos (WHEW!!!) and fruit drinks were tasty as hell. I can rehash what the other reviewers said but there's no point. Everything on the menu that I've had was delicious. This place is great and you need to try it if you like fried chicken even a little bit. The chicken is very good. The batter on the fried chicken is very different from what you might get at popeyes or brother's, or even most restaurants. In contrast to those, this is much lighter and crispier, rather than chewy. If you've had the chicken at Fiorella's (also great BTW) it's a bit like that. It cracks instead of tearing, and the skin is properly bonded to the meat. Mmmm. Now I'm going to have to go back to Fiorella's . The salsas are delicious, and not too spicy for those who can't handle the heat. This place is too small. I always order mine to go in case the place fills up after I place my order. Being a single guy, I have no one to save a table for me while I wait in line, which is what most people do. The atmosphere is fast food, except that they have real deal no fooling plates and utensils, and a lady serving orders and busing tables. Soft drinks are self serve. Aguasa frescas are available as well. Love me some jamaica, though I didn't try theirs. Steer clear of the chicken tenders.They are a standard fast food type item. They're only on the menu to satisfy the demands of picky little kids and nervous white folks who are afraid of "ethnic" foods. Anyone over the ag of 16 who orders chicken tenders for themselves deserves whatever they get. Hopefully a smack in the mouth. The yucca fries are delicious, fluffy and crispy. It was amusing to watch the girl behind the register, after taking several orders in spanish, switch to Caucasian Mode. It was like someone flipped a switch. I'm native to Southern California where citrus grilled chicken is a much more common thing that I've missed since relocating to NOLA so in all honestly I've got some bias here. In the realm of all grilled chicken I've ever had its not the absolute best, but its still really good, and the Campero beans are awesome. That's pretty much all I've had off the menu because with some steamed corn tortillas and an agua fresca that is the craving that leads me here. First of all, expect to have fresh food. I'm saying that I know it takes some time to fry and grill chicken that's not precooked. It's not fast food. That means if they get a rush and have to fry more chicken it may take a little longer. However, I don't mind waiting when that happens because the food is fresh and the service is always great. The restaurant was understaffed, the dining room was dirty, and the food was just okay. I'm not sure if the location sees a lot of traffic, but we went on a Sunday afternoon and were two of about five customers that were in and out for the time it took us to order and eat. We came here tonight to give it one more try. The last ten or so times that we came they were out of the grilled chicken which is what we came for. It is spiced with Central American flavors and always juicy and delicious. Especially for fast food. Fortunately we got here early so they still had enough for us. It was as delicious as we remembered. As a matter of fact everything that we've ever had here is delicious. The problem is the help and the management. My mother is from Mexico but I don't speak any Spanish. Unfortunately many of the times that we've been in here there is nobody that speaks English. Tonight we were fortunate and there was one person who spoke a little bit. After several minutes of trying we finally were able to place our order and it came out mostly right. We were all very happy with our food. I just don't understand why if you don't get there early enough (we ordered at 6:15 and got the last of the grilled chicken) that you cannot get their seemingly most popular item. Why don't they make more? We would eat here much more frequently if they did. It also always seems a little bit dirty. The pinto beans and rice campero side dishes are both very good, but their chicken pieces are small. It's like they prioritize buying the smallest chickens by the pound to boost their profit margins. They aren't cheap either. A 3-piece dinner with a small drink cost over $10 with the tax. I had the grilled chicken (dark meat) with tortillas and beans and still felt hungry when I was finished. I'd have been more satiated by a 2-piece dinner from Popeye's. The chicken could have been cooked longer to crisp up the skin more. I like some char on the skin. The last time I tried Pollo Campero, the grilled chicken was cooked better, but again the pieces were small. I thought that might have been just a one-time, unlucky experience, which is why I gave them another chance, but I increased my order from two pieces to three and it still wasn't enough for an average-size man. It's too bad that I am dissatisfied because their grilled chicken would have been a nice alternative to fried chicken. However, I don't feel like I get my money's worth. read more

I have had both the grilled chicken and fried chicken. They are both good, but the 1/4 grilled chicken is very small. You definetly are better off if you get the fried chicken. They also claim that there air is broken and is supposedly are getting it fixed, but it has been broken for quite awhile. I would suggest to take it to go or be prepared to sweat. read more
