I haven't had Pollo Campero for many years, so I decided to come here for my cheat day yesterday (Sunday). (I used to go to the one in the Pico-Union area on Olympic and Union) This was my very first time coming to this location. When I tried the chicken for the first time in many years, I was not disappointed. The chicken is incredibly flavorful to the bone, tender, and extremely juicy. The sides were quite nice too, and our cashier was really nice and welcoming. I might get some heat for this but in my opinion, Pollo Campero is way better than Popeyes. It is the best fast food fried chicken chain. If you love fried chicken, please try Pollo Campero. You will not be disappointed. I went there on Thursday night ordered an eight piece meal when I got home. It was missing part of the order. I've been here few times and they lack customer service skills. It never fails, you get to witness a staff arguing with a customer at every visit. My visit yesterday included witnessing a manager (I assume since she was in a different uniform than everyone else,) telling the customer she was wrong and to read her receipt. I got to say that when I passed this place the day before and saw it packed, it was a sign to try this place. I got the 2 piece meal and they asked "wing and breast or leg and thigh?" which is a plus. I got the wing and breast, I have to say that the flavor of the food was delicious and I don't like fried chicken like that. Oh man, the fried chicken here is just so darn juicy and so well flavored. This particular location is pretty busy, so plan your time accordingly. I appreciate they use re-usable plattes and silverware to lower the carbon footprint impact from them to our planet. I almost always get the 3 piece dark with fried yucca, and mashed potatoes. I like the sauce that comes with the yucca to dip in to. It's slightly sweet but tangy can't pin point the flavour though. They offer dinner rolls or tortilla if you like with your chicken. For drinks they have a Pepsi fountain station and a few Agua frescas. My favourite is the Mango Agua Fresca. Parking is in the small lot right behind the building and service has always been good here too. read more

The best way I can describe this place is if you mix a KFC rooster with an El Pollo Loco hen, the chick is Pollo Campero. It has hybrid vigor too - its better than its two 'parents' combined. I haven't eaten in a Guatemalan restaurant yet, but I know I love Pollo Campero . This restaurant chain started back in the very early 70's in Guatemala. It became so popular there that its one of the few countries were KFC is not able to dominate like it has so many other countries outside the USA. They are even challenging KFC's dominance in Asia and have opened their first location in Indonesia, the fried chicken capital of the world. One of their newest locations opened Hollywood a few years ago at Sunset and St. Andrews. Its a very urban part of town, but when you step inside the fast food restaurant, you feel like you have entered a Central American fiesta. Its very brightly lit, and the orange and yellow colors make you think of a balmy tropical place. I was looking out to see if there were any hanging pinatas. There wasn't a long line when I arrived around 7 PM. I ordered the 3 piece meal ($5.49) which includes 2 sides and your choice of tortillas, biscuit or dinner roll. The dinner roll looked pathetic, and I can't imagine eating fried chicken with a tortilla, so I ordered the biscuit. They were out of biscuits and cooking more, so it took about 5 minutes before my biscuit arrived. I prefer dark meat when it comes to chicken, so they served me 2 thighs and a wing. they asked me if i wanted another thigh instead of the wing, but I settled for a wing. The 3 piece meal was supposed to consist of 2 legs and a thigh, but I guess they were out of legs that night. For my 2 sides I ordered Spanish rice and sweet plantains. The plantains cost 0.90 cents extra. The chicken was delicious. The skin was fried in a light batter and it wasn't oily or had a greasy aftertaste. The texture was definitely crispy - just the way I like my fired chicken. I liked it much better than KFC. The Spanish rice took me by surprise. I was expecting something non memorable like what El Pollo Loco serves, but this Spanish rice was really good. Almost like a cross between paella and Spanish rice. The fried plantains were also done right. Not oily and the texture was just perfect. They were sweet and delicious. The biscuits finally came and I was not disappointed. They weren't the best biscuits I have tasted, but better than the ones they serve at McDonald's or KFC. It was delicious with the honey packets. The service at this restaurant was very good, and what impressed me further was that they would later come to your table and offer you those packet moist towelettes to clean your hands with, as well as some condiment items. They will also clean up after your table. So its like a hybrid between fast food and sit down. The total cost for my meal including a medium drink was $8.64, so pretty good and filling for a meal under 10 bucks. I'm definitely a convert and look forward to the day when they open a location in West LA. Update: I ate there again last weekend. The chicken and the rice was as good before, but the plantains were overcooked and not freshly cooked. The biscuit also was also on the hard side. read more
