It's just a Waba Grill, and I normally don't review chain places, but what makes this one a little different is how stingy they are with their Waba sauces. Usually when I go, the dude has no problem hooking me up with an extra sauce or two, but the ladies, any of them, I swear, act like it comes out of their own personal stash when I ask for an extra sauce or two. They will literally fight me for it; it's just so weird. I mean, if I have to pay for it, then I guess I'm okay with that, depending on the price, but that's not even an offer; it's just a straight no or a "we can only give you one." Food is always good so no complaints there. The service is better when the guys are working. They are always helpful and polite. The middle age Latina with the brown with blonde streaks is lazy. I tend to buy the waba sauce bottles for home but when she is working they magically don't have any bottles even though they are right there on the shelf. I guess pour liquid into thise bottles is to complex for her. You can tell she doesn't want to be there. This is NOT a one time occurrence either. read more

Staff is nice. I haven't been here in years and business decisions have certainly been made. A Waba Plate used to be a great meal. Now you hardly get anything: 3 kinda seared dumplings, a dozen pieces of greens, and a smear of rice with protein on top. Not only that, orange slices aren't gone anymore with the plates. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in WaBa Grill. I even had to send an email to corporate, which received no response btw. I placed an order online for a family meal for an easy week of meal prep... But that was me being ambitious. WaBa Grill has always been a dependable food joint for me, but today - I cannot fathom eating here again. The number one thing was the MEAT - they gave me burnt beef... *Please see photos*. That is straight up cancerous, am I suppose to consume that? The chicken was sorta edible, but y'all... C'MON. What is going on here??? I didn't get all of my sauces (garlic Serrano, spicy WaBa sauce; just got the regular WaBa sauce and hot sauce...) my veggies were just broccoli with no carrots and I don't even think it was the "family size" that I made a note of and paid extra for... The quality tends to vary by location. This is the third or fourth one I've tried; it's neither the best nor worst of them (so far, for me). The staff is very pleasant here. Also, it's affordable. One plus is they're open on Sunday. Another is the proximity to a you-buy-they-fry seafood shop (next door south) that may increase your options if you or someone else in your party likes fish. My lunch buddy and I rate them 3.5 stars (which rounds up here because their open hours are good). Portions here are modest, which comports with their "healthy" theme. We would likely return (and maybe supplement with some fried fish). The WaBa sauce is basically teriyaki, and IMO it's good! read more

I suggest no one go to the Waba Grill on Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Blvd. Just went for lunch and ordered my usual, which is the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Bowl. I had to wait for 25 minutes, almost half of my lunch hour. I then take it back to my job to eat and they barely gave me any of the sweet and spicy sauce. The place is very clean. Staff are helpful. The restroom is well maintained. That is important. The food is alright. They have vegetarian options. The tofu is organic, and the salmon is wild-caught. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to eat healthy. read more

Service is bad here, they have a special here for " kids eat free on weekdays after 4pm and ALL DAY LONG ON WEEKENDS " I came one time on a Saturday afternoon and asked for the special given I was buying 2 bigger plates and I was told they don't have that special on weekends, really? The whole restaurant is promoting that special and yet you're going to tell me you don't have that special. Ok I ordered something else for my kids since he said no. 15 min later another family walks in and he gives them the special of the free kids bowl. Like are you kidding me? Busy location. This was actually my first time having WaBa Grill. I'm a frequent visitor at Flame Broiler, and I really don't think these 2 places differ much. The food, the taste, portions, etc are all about the same. I had the Waba Bowl with veggies and brown rice. Definitely a healthier, and quicker option than a lot of other places out there. Spacious, with seating indoors and a few table outside as well. Large parking lot, so find a parking space shouldn't be an issue. Conveniently located to LACC where I'm taking a class. Oh....and the female staff was super friendly. She was patient while I was trying to figure out what to order. read more

After a lengthy vacation I endured an equal period of recurring blahs. Looking over delivery options via DoorDash I stumbled across this healthy eating option. I had seen them around town but had never tried it. Especially intrigued how it measured up to Flame Broiler, which I like quite a bit. The veggies in the chicken/veggy bowl were firm not soggy. They provided only one packet of sauce. Guess I should have asked for more. Chicken was fully cooked if a bit bland. I also got some dumplings, which were delish and came with a zesty dipping sauce. MUCH better than Yoshinoya ---------- Although this may not seem like much of a compliment, think about that for a second. This place offers bowls / plates of freshly grilled meats (beef, chicken, ribs, salmon), placed on a bed of soft, steamed rice and topped with freshly diced green onions. The beef and the ribs actually taste a bit like Korean Bulgogi and kalbee (which would not be all that surprising, since they are also offering kimchi). The veggie bowls come with flavorful and still-crunchy broccoli spears. On top of that, this place is clean and brightly lit. Plus, they have smartly offered a "house brand" hot sauce condiment on every table, which is basically a bottle of Lee Kum Kee hot sauce with their own label (don't worry, your secret is safe with me... This fast food restaurant was terrible. Shame on the Franchisor and the Franchisee (if its privately owned). They barely and skillfully covered the rice with bare minimum meats. This is a sad and pathetic excuse for a Salmon bowl. Where's the Waba sauce? The salmon looks unappealing and almost inedible. I remember when the salmon bowl had veggies, sauce, and actually looked good. I don't even know what this is. I definitely overpaid for this. $9.29 +tax for this? On top of that they now keep the sauce behind the counter. I only received 3 packets for two Waba plates and a salmon bowl. On top of this, I asked for one Waba plate to have brown rice and I got a mix of white and brown rice. That is not okay. I wish I could give this place 0 stars but I have with 1 star. Pure satisfaction. For the price, I was surprised with the quality of the salmon. Tasty delicious good-sized portion! It wasn't dry or overcooked like most restaurants when I order salmon. Yay! For a minute, I didn't realize they had chopped green onion (and I think it was sliced carrots?) to grab next to the beverage dispensers. For a quick lunch bite and those of you under a time crunch, this is a good stop. Don't expect a grass fed beef or cage free chicken all diced up for you - your going to lay around $9-$11 but it's healthy and perfect for on the go. There's no skin on the meat so that's a huge win. They also have salmon which is made to order so that's another plus unlike cafeterias. They now have spicy pork also. Cashiers are nice - they change often - most are young so prob due to school, etc but still pleasant and friendly. So, eat here if you're in a hurry or not, it's good.
