Food is good but the service is terrible!!!!! A couple of the servers do a great job but the rest of them are terrible.

I have been eating at this location for over 40 years!! Oh my! The tuna sandwich is still amazing and the baked beans are the same - delicious. Don't let the location deter you from eating here. For is consistent and good. Service is prompt and accommodating. Others have complained about the location, and they are right. It's not good. I like Polly's Pies, good comfort home-style food. But the service is something else. Last week my husband and I had lunch and our waiter Edgar was so slow. Our drink order was Ice Tie, coffee and a water. Tea & Coffee came no water. Asked Edgar minimum of 4x's and he said I get that for you..... it took forever. From the time we sat down until the food was brought it took 35min. We ordered salad and egg & toast. simple. We went to Polly's Thursday and our waitress was Lola. Very good service from the time we sat down until our food was brought to the table 15min! I've taken to using my stop watch. read more

Time for a little Sunday morning breakfast and this place rocks busy though not a long wait and when waiting they have samples of their cinanimond buns oh boy these are the best, hostess kept us post to when our table would be ready and is very happy. All I ask for when I go to a restaurant is service, hot food and a Manager to follow up if their is a problem. What I got was being seated and no waitress for 10 minutes. Then my breakfast arrived at the same time as my coffee. And, you guessed it , the breakfast was cold. Could not find my waitress so had to bother another waitress to have my order re-made. After going to Polly's for almost 2 years on Sundays after church, (a large group of 8-14) we had a terrible experience last Sunday. We arrived at 9:30, no hostess in sight, and waited over 1 hour for a table. There were empty tables all around us. Our order was taken and it took over 45 minutes for it to arrive. The food was so cold it was hard to cut, and harder to eat! At 11:45, we finally went to the register without a check because we had waited so long for that to be delivered. I am writing this because this has now happened more than once, I was hoping the first time was just a bad day so i gave it a second chance, BIG mistake. Their service is terrible. Came to Polly's on my lunch hour. We waited to be seated for over 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Not even a glance. The restaurant was not full. Then we sat for another 10 minutes before someone came to ask us for drink orders, we told them we were on our lunch and would like to order. She told us we needed to wait for our waiter, who came promptly but then we waited for another 30 minutes for our food. All we ordered was tuna sandwiches and soup, which you know they probably have in the kitchen already prepped. The manager was going around asking other tables how their food was, but skipped ours. So my co-worker asked him if he could check on our food because we had been waiting 30 minutes for 2 sandwiches and soup. He went to the back and that was it, he never came back to follow up or apologize. Our food came a few minutes later, but by that time we had to scarf it down because it had taken so long. The guy who brought our food out, (not our server) was kind and comp'd us a piece of pie. But overall very disappointing, they used to be on top of things and we were able to get in and out within an hour. read more

Had dinner with my family here last night. They had us waiting over 10 minutes before anyone came over to take our order. When the server finally came, we were already ready to give our orders, instead, she asked us what we wanted to drink then promptly left....Later, our coffee came but we didn't get any utensils to use so we were just sitting there waiting for them to give us some, but nothing came. Plus..they haven't even taken our orders yet. I had to gesture to the server that we were ready before she came over. After giving our orders I asked for teaspoons for our coffee to which she said she would bring them over. Another 5 minutes later and still no teaspoons. When I saw the server again I reminded her about the teaspoons to which she replied with an irritated 'yes I will bring them over' under a forced smile. Then she shook her head and went in the kitchen to get them. After a few moments, and to our surprise, a new server came over our table with our orders and he politely said that the person who was serving us was going home and that he was going to be taking over. That was fine except that the previous server did everything else except go home. She was everywhere taking care of other customers and working in the kitchen. Maybe they were trying to prevent a bad situation from getting worse so they made adjustments internally....whatever....but the bottom line is, all of that made for really bad experience for us. To me, it felt like the fist server just didn't want to deal with her own lack of courtesy, training etc, so she chose to change her customers instead. I don't believe we were unreasonably demanding of them at any point but she sure made us feel like we were being accused of that. To be fair, the NEW server gave us two free slices of pie because it was my wife's birthday so that was cool of him, but it didn't fully take away the bad taste in our mouths when we walked away. It's sad how one bad server can stain the reputation of a really good restaurant. Not coming back. read more

Service was terrible today. We seated ourselves and waited for our waitress to bring us menus. After 6 or 7 minutes, (felt longer) she finally shows up and drops off menus and is on the go again. We already knew what we wanted, but she never asked. There were only 6 people in our area, so I wasn't sure why she kept disappearing? She finally came back and took our order. We requested coffee and the Apple streusel walnut pancakes. I had a coupon for it and when she saw it, she said they no longer have these since the coupons had expired already. Mine expired on the 31st, which was today. I told her this. She kind of exhaled and said she would see what she could do. After a while and in bad need of a refill on my coffee, she came by, dropped off our plates and said she needs to dig in the back for our whipped topping. I guess she was waiting for us to say never mind, but when I looked at her and said okay, she shrugged and took off again My refill? she never asked or even bothered to look at my cup. I had to grab another waitress to get a refill. During our meal, she never came by and I kept trying to get her attention, but she seemed to ignore me. Finally I got up from the table and went to where she was to ask for a to go cup for my coffee and the bill. After a while she came by and gave me a fresh cup of coffee in a to go cup and the bill. She asked how everything was. Really? I think my tip answered her question. read more

My family has been coming to this location for many years. The food is top notch and the coffee is delicious. Agree with other yelpers that recently the service has been lacking though. Right now it is a little challenging to get to the restaurant due to the construction on State College and Raymond Avenue but well worth it. read more

Service was great! I called ahead to reserve the usual - banberry pie, an all-time great that often sells out. The server was friendly and upbeat and quickly set one aside for us. When we arrived, we saw the rest of their pies and asked for a lemon meringue, another tried and true fave. When we saw a sign for Aloha pies, which were new to us, we inquired about them. Our server was more than gracious to swap out the lemon meringue for the aloha custard... That aloha custard pie with brown sugar and macadamia nut topping was a surprisingly terrific treat! Came here for the first time today and will not be returning. The food was good but the service was horrible. We walked in and waited for a hostess to show up to put our name on the list. We were a party of two and were the third name on the list. We waited about 45 minutes as the lobby filled up with people and counted 6 open tables in the restaurant. All the while the hostess sat no one and just stood in the back rolling Silverware. When we finally were seated someone brought us water and then we waited way too long for our server to come take our order. I ordered the fish and chips which stated it came with coleslaw. She asked me if I wanted a different side and seemed annoyed when I asked what the options were. While we waited forever for our food I watched the staff. Not one person was in a rush even tho the lobby was full, half of the restaurants tables were now empty, and there were others around that were waiting a long time for their food as well. I even watched a busboy take 15 minutes to clean one single table. We finally asked for our food to be wrapped up to go instead and to please bring the check immediately as we had somewhere to be and did not expect this to take so long. To which the server replied it wasn't very long. The cashier was nice and offered 20% off when he asked how everything was and we said not so great. I was just blown away by the staffs overly relaxed attitude and the absence of a manager on a supposedly typically hectic Sunday. Before Thanksgiving we pre-ordered online a Thanksgiving Feast because we were going to be out of town on Thanksgiving and wanted to have dinner with my son. The directions were very specific and made it clear that we should get to the restaurant within the hour of specified pickup or our order would be given away. I pre-paid as well. Fast forward to the Saturday before Thanksgiving.....I arrived about 10 to 15 minutes after our pickup time (Huntington Beach, CA Polly's on Adams) and they were clearly surprised. They did not have our order ready.....some weren't sure what we were talking about....and after someone went into the kitchen to ask them to put together our order, they openly argued about it in front of customers. After 20 - 30 minutes, they put together our order. I went to the website to the "contact us" section and relayed this information. The site said Polly's would get back to me shortly and I have never been contacted. After many years of patronizing Polly's, I am disappointed with the botched order and the non-response. read more

I picked up some Macadamia nut chicken and some vegetables and green beans for dinner . So yummy. I highly recommend this dish. The food is great and tastes like a home cooked meal. Comfort food, comfort people! This Polly's Pies is off the beaten track, in a rather obscure location in Fullerton. Not by downtown, not by the college, not even remotely close to Disneyland. I only found it by a stroke of luck. The food here is yummy: The chicken pie (they make a point of calling it "not pot pie") was flakey outside, warm and full of chicken and veggies on the inside. Mashed potatoes were delicious. Since it was a Friday, I got a cup of clam chowder, which was buttery and had enough clams for me. The coup de grace was the strawberry pie at the end. While the food is wonderful and comforting, it's the staff here that makes Polly's what it is. Remember that scene in Back to the Future where Marty McFly goes back to 1955 and sees four guys run out of the gas station when a car pulls up? Everybody laughed, because we were well into the era of self-serve gas. Well, Polly's has unbelievable service. I had 3 people ask me how I was doing who were not my server. My server was friendly and professional. I had a bit of a problem with my mashed potatoes not being hot enough for my taste, but that was remedied about 2 minutes after I mentioned it. You know how some places will fix something for you, but give you that irritated or snarky look while they do it? It was just the opposite here, correcting a minor mistake as quickly as possible, so the thing you come away with is how amazing the service is, not concerned with lukewarm potatoes. I cannot overemphasize how great the whole staff is here. That's what will bring me back. Not just comfort food, comfort people. read more

My dad had been raving about this place and I didn't believe it was going to be THAT good. But I was wrong! The food was delicious! And the only thing better than the food was the outstanding service, our waitress Paige was speedy and friendly. Honestly, I haven't been to Polly's in quite a while. I can't remember why I stopped going, but this place is definitely back on my radar. I tried all new items from their breakfast menu. The sloppy joe smothered biscuit was delicious and the cherry filled muffin was so good, I brought home four extra for my weekend mornings. Of course, excellent food can be a waste if there isn't service to back it up and this Polly's surprised me completely. Every employee that handled the floor was attentive and cordial. Have been to Polly's Pies for years. Went last night about 40 minutes before closing. Although we got our drink order right away, it took 10 minutes before someone took our order. Coffee was warm, had to get up and find someone to ask for a refill of our drinks. When the waitress brought our food we had to ask for some fresh coffee as the refill was Luke warm. When the cashier asked how our meal was I told him the food was good but that we had to get up and ask for refills, the service was slow and terrible and the coffee was no good. All I got was "sorry about that but all I'm in charge of is the front counter." No offer to get a manager. Why ask if you aren't going to do something about it. Worst of all was the manager heard my complaint but didn't bother to even come and talk to us. read more

wow. Where do I start!? We stop in because we live close. First we get a big "Hi" from a woman with the remnants of a tattoo on her neck. (Looks like she's in the process of getting it remove) So far so good. There are about 20 ppl there and we like the counter so we get seated there. Then nothing... There's a guy 4 feet in front of me doing the daily money counting of the "bank", he might be the Manager and the woman who seated us is standing a few feet away at the counter. Waiters and busboys kept walking by. I tried to get the attention of the woman who seated us or the guy counting money several times over the next 10 minutes. Are the ignoring me or just inept? Finally a waiter walks by and I ask for help and he says "what do you want?" I say "service" and he says, loudly, is no one helping you? I say no. Neither the woman or the Manager even look up. I think he was trying to make a point. Very weird. We just got up and walked out. Very odd. I would never trust food that comes from a poorly run place like this. If they can't even see me sitting at the counter how can they keep the dirty chicken juice from running into the salads? read more

I just finished writing a very bad review for Kimmie's Coffe Cup in Fullerton and want to offset it with a great review for Polly's on Raymond in Fullerton. My husband and I have been here many times for breakfast or lunch. Love the food! Love the friendly comfortable feeling of the place. Service has always been excellent, espically Brenda.. I wonder if some of the reviews are actually for this restaurant. One mentioned the young high school or college waitresses. In dozens of times there I haven't seen a waitress who fits that description. My husband's favorite is chicken fried steak and also the biscuits and gravy (which I can't keep my fork out of). I love the macadamia nut pancakes and Avocado and Friends sandwich. The Banberry pie is to die for. I am currently trying to watch the carbs and had the spinach scramble with a side of fruit. This is the best Polly's in the area from cinnamon rolls to biscuits and gravy, you wont be disappointed!! The service is on point and the breakfast specials won't break the bank. I have been going to Polly's for years. I use to go to the in Laguna Woods. Tonight I went to the one in Fullerton. The host was very friendly and he sat us right away. Then everything came to a crashing halt! Yikes! The service was so slow. We sat and watched servers just stand around talking doing nothing. The manager was not any better. She did nothing. She walked by once and I looked at her and she just looked away. You could tell she did not want to be bothered. It became a game to see how long it would take for anyone to come to the table. I could understand if they were swamped. But it was kind of a light night. When the food finally arrived, it was good. That might be the only reason to return or go to a different Polly's. Then we had to wait to get the bill. Unfortunately, it wasn't just us, all the tables around us were complaining about the service. I have to say this was the worst experience I have ever had at a Polly's. Will think hard if I return. I hope someone can do something to improve the service. read more
