The kiddo and I ended up at Polly's Pies in Fullerton today because she was performing just down the way in her barbershop quartet, and we had some time to kill between shows. And really--what better way to fill a gap in the schedule than with food someone else cooked? We both went for the Lunch 'n' Munch special, which sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon but thankfully delivers real adult sustenance. We each had the Comeback Chicken Sandwich with a side, drink, and cookie. I got extra pickles like a civilized human; the kid got none because she's still young and hasn't discovered the true meaning of flavor. She sipped a strawberry lemonade, I stuck with a Diet Coke, and we congratulated ourselves on our excellent life choices. The food? Surprisingly good--actually good--especially considering my previous Montebello experience, which felt more like a plot twist. The cookie, however... Let's talk. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely lacked that homemade magic. A snickerdoodle should show up warm, with crunchy edges, a soft center, and an aroma that whispers "your diet starts tomorrow." This one was more "packaged at the speed of efficiency" than "baked by someone who cares." A missed chance for cookie glory. Of course, we still grabbed a four-pack of blueberry muffins on the way out, because clearly we cope with waiting-between-shows by hoarding baked goods. I went to another Polly's and had a good experience so I went here for breakfast today since I was in the area. The parking lot is sketchy but inside the restaurant is nice and clean with a totally different vibe than outside. I ordered the Country breakfast special so I could try their biscuits and gravy. It was just OK. The gravy didn't taste homemade. The biscuits were soft bread-like mounds. The eggs were a soft scramble. The fresh fruit cup was delicious strawberries perfectly cut and large green grapes on top of canned peach pieces. The service was excellent and so was the price (value) since their approx $10 breakfasts also come with coffee. I will be back but it won't be for the gravy :-( read more

We have been eating at the Fullerton location for years. It's not as good as it was a few years ago. We ate there a week ago. We stood there waiting to be seated for over 10 minutes. A group of servers were standing around in the kitchen and didn't say we will be there in a minute. Finally a server came from the back and seated us. It took a while before our order was taken. Our coffees were barely warm and our food was the same way just warm. I ate my cornbread because it was hot and delicious. My husband also ate his cornbread. We went to pay and had to wait again before anyone came to help. I bought a Lemon Meringue pie to bring home this evening. When I ate a slice at home, the meringue layer tasted underbaked, with the egg white still tasting raw. I promptly called the restaurant and asked if I could return the pie and exchange it for a different one. They were very accommodating and apologetic about the quality of the meringue. I went ahead and paid the $3 difference to get an Apple Crisp pie instead. After all these years, this is the first time I had been disappointed with a pie at Polly's. My hubby's cheesesteak was dry, hard and tasteless. It came with corn bread (soft and delicious but did not have the grit you usually get and had no corn) and mashed potatoes which was good. I had a choice of French fries or Cole slaw and opted for the latter. I did not like the Cole slaw at all. It tasted old, like it has been sitting in the fridge for a long time. This Polly's is actually the very first location established in 1968. It's attached to a strip mall with a grocery store at one end. I've never seen one like this before. Inside it's nice and big with two unisex restrooms. I love their burgers and sandwiches. You can have your meal as a combo option too, that includes a slice of pie. Along with pies, they also bake huge cinnamon rolls. We had to get one of those too! You definitely can't leave without a Polly's dessert. read more

Polly's Pies is the same feel type of a country style American diner as compared to Marie Calendars or Carrows. I do prefer Polly's Pies because of the much larger variety of food options and bigger portions. Also, they serve complimentary homemade corn bread while you wait for your food! My party and I came on a Sunday night and there wasn't too many patrons. We got seated right away. I love the fact that they have the Oktoberfest seasonal menu - because I missed good ole German food. I ordered the pork Schnitzel. The food came out in roughly 15 mins and it was well worth the wait. It was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, yum! We also ordered chicken tenders but it wasn't as good. First time at this Polly's. Great diner feel with a bakery and counter seating as you step in from the parking lot. Love the seasonal menu and it's Oktoberfest. I tried to walk-up and get pies the day before Thanksgiving and was told the only pie they had available for walk-ups were pumpkin and apple and anything else needed to be ordered ahead of the time online, or in-person. I tried ordering online via my phone while I was in the parking lot and the ordering function wasn't working so I walked back and waited in line to order. I ordered barberry, apple and custard pies for pick-up at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving day. The staff and their manager were all working hard making pies, boxing them and sorting/organizing them. The next day I got there early and was 3rd in line and again, the staff were so nice and welcoming and ready to get the pies out. I observed nothing but teamwork both days I was there. Original: I ordered a sugar free pumpkin pie and banana cream pie for Thanksgiving. My family and I decided to celebrate the day after for Native American Heritage Day, which was the day we picked up the pie (Nov. 29). The pie was MOLDY the day of pick up. And only two days after (Dec. 2) it looked like this (second image). I called and spoked to JOAQUIN the manager. Told me to bring in the pie and honestly gave an attitude. My boyfriend returned the pies today just for a little apology and a refund. They didn't even offer something to compensate for the fact that my family had no pie this year. I am a big fan of Polly's Pies and eat there often. Today, however, I was there for lunch at the Fullerton restaurant with my wife and since they are having a St. Patrick's month special from 17 Feb to 17 March, I decided to order the Reuben sandwich. As I bit into the Reuben, I realized there was no sauerkraut or Thousand island dressing, both of which are advertised on the menu. The waitress promptly went to get those for me (she offered to have the sandwich remade but I declined). She came back with the Thousand Island dressing but told me the kitchen did not have any sauerkraut available at all. I can understand running out of an ingredient (that doesn't explain the lack of Thousand Island on the sandwich to begin with) but to just make the sandwich and send it out without some of the advertised ingredients and not tell the customer beforehand in pretty incompetent. This was very poor form. I gave them 3 stars because the waitress was very good and quite attentive considering the kitchen's abject failure and my wife's turkey sandwich was very good, as always. Remember to ask beforehand if they have sauerkraut before ordering a Reuben sandwich - assuming the kitchen staff know what sauerkraut is to begin with. Or, just order the Turkey sandwich. read more

One family waiting 45 minutes for their food had it delivered cold, so they split as well.. I can only assume the restaurant was heavily understaffed for the unusual crowd. Our waitress (receipt says Ashley) was focusing 90% of her attention on a table of old people that I assume are regulars. When she did come through for us (and her other tables), she was very friendly and handled our orders. Sadly, leaving us hanging for 20+ minutes at a time doesn't support the dine-in experience. My family and I ate dinner at Polly's Pies on a Friday night. Without a crowd, we got seated after the staff cleaned up a table for us. The ambience felt calming with holiday decorations near the entrance, pies on display, and quiet music in the background. I ordered the Sausage & Pepper Penne ($13.99), which came with one half-slice of garlic bread. The ingredients were grilled Italian sausage, sliced red and green bell peppers, sweet onions, Momma Polly's Marinara, and parmesan cheese. The pasta tasted solid and met my expectations. The sausage had a peppery flavor that brought diversity to the pasta. Overall, I'd rate it an adequate pasta as the marinara sauce didn't bring out any noteworthy taste. However, the garlic bread tasted good, and I wish I had another slice with the meal instead of the two dinner rolls. I also ordered one cup (small bowl) of the backburner soup as my grandpa recommended. Although I had no idea what kind of soup I ordered (I assumed it had spice because of the "burn" part of the name), I chose to eat it blind. Backburner soup didn't have a spot on the menu, but we confirmed with our waiter that they served it. The soup had a generous assortment of vegetables with penne rigate. However, my grandpa and I agreed that it tasted a bit cold upon receiving the soup. I believe it would've tasted better than if the broth thickened so as to bring out a hearty texture. I also wouldn't recommend it for people who like savory soup as it lacked spices to liven up its flavor. Also for the dinner rolls that came with the meal, I wish they had more warmth. Overall, Polly's Pies served good food at competitive prices compared to other American chain restaurants. First time at this Polly's Pies location in Fullerton. It's a complete different vibe and indoor atmosphere than my usual location in Montebello. The interior feels more spacious and has nicer decors. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the turkey dinner which comes with cornbread and banberry pie. Food was pretty good, but wasn't a fan of the stuffing. The cornbread is the best thing about this place tho! They're located inside the same business plaza as Planet Fitness and Grocery Outlet. I saw the sign advertising peach pies are here and decided to stop in. I got the homemade biscuits (bag of 6) - absolutely hearty, fresh and delicious. The banana cream pie was soulfully good, not too overtly sweet. The pumpkin pie (yes, in season already in July!) was also very good. The blueberry muffin and strawberry lemonade muffin were moist and perfect pairing with my morning coffee. I am glad they have multiple locations for fresh bread.
