Dr. Polsinelli was so thorough and has the nicest personality! Turns out he's married to his partner optometrist, Dr. Miyamoto, who graduated from the same high school I did! Such a small world. His exam and explanations were beyond my expectations. I mean I've been told for years that I had dry eyes, but no one ever said how to treat it other than buy eye drops. Dr. Polsinelli actually gave me a lesson on home remedies and what causes the dry eyes. After talking about my life changes, he also told me he offers free pediatric eye exams to children 6-12 months old. Wow! I just can't say enough about his practice and I look forward to meeting his wife one day!

The doctors care here is excellent and in the past the front of house was also giving excellent customer service. Present day that this is not the case. I had my appointment in the end of January for my eye exam and purchase of glasses. I was quoted 7 to 10 business days to recieve them. On the 10th business day I called to get an update on when they would be in. Whoever answered the phone gave me so much attitude for asking a simply question. I was shocked. They told me that they never quoted 7 to 10 business days, it had only been 9 days according to their system, and that they always quote 10 to 14 days. They said that they will call when my glasses were in and hung up on me. Another week later I called back for an update, because at this point it had been 15 days according to their plan. They said that the glasses were not correct when they arrived and had to be sent back. When I inquired about why I was not inform of this they could not provide an answer. I was quoted another week. I tried to call a week later and got no response. Now 6 weeks have gone by at this point. I have to call them again because they do not know how to pick up a phone clearly. I was informed that my glasses have been waiting for me. When I asked why wasnt I informed, they said that a manager had to call me back to give an explanation. I never got that call. Now I had to wait another week on top of this to go pick up my new glasses because they didnt have any openings. The fact that I had to wait another week to pick up was outrageous. When I finally did get my glasses, they didnt apologize or anything to make up for the fact that I had to wait 7 weeks for my medical device. My advice, fire the front of house staff. Clearly training on customer service isnt a priority when it should be. As someone who has worked in retail for most of my adult life, this is just unacceptable. I would never treat a paying customer this way. Let alone a customer with medical needs.

Here are some clinics in town that can offer gender affirming care: Blink Optical : exams start at $100 out of pocket Eyes on Broadway: exams start at $200 out of pocket South Waterfront Eyecare: exams start at $265 Hawthorne Vision Center does not list their exam prices on their website and will not respond to phone calls or emails (in my lived experience), so you may need to stop into the clinic and ask about pricing in person if you are interested in establishing care. But if you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally to the transgender community, I encourage you to go elsewhere. Blink and Eyes on Broadway are both owned by members of the LGBTQ+ community, so there's really no reason to patronize this clinic as an LGBTQ+ individual. Dr Uhlig and Nina, I wish you the best in learning gender affirming care practices for your clinic. Maybe one day you can treat gender diverse folks, but it is clearly beyond your capabilities as medical providers currently; a fact that is both sad and also entirely preventable.
