One of our kids had butter noodles with penne and said it was good. My wife who has to eat gluten free had a gluten free pizza which she said was one of the best she's ever had. I also tried an appetizer that came w/ shrimp (I forgot the name of it) it was also very good, definitely would recommend them both. And the service was great as well! Pomo is consistent and delicious. Their fresh cheeses and wood fired dough are amazing. I also like their salads and pasta. I don't love their sausages and meats so I've stopped ordering them in the pizza, but I think that is more on my taste than on Pomo. Now I stick with margarita or some other non meat pizza. I wish their pizzas would somehow have less "drainage".. they can get soggy pretty fast for the watery liquid. Service at the bar is always on point. They show Suns and other games which is great for me. Full bar with wine list. Recently we were headed to a suns game but I didn't wanna toss my leftovers; they held them for us in a fridge until we returned a few hours later and picked them up. That was really nice. I am ambivalent about Pomo. I find it handy but not necessarily the best. Ambiance is neutral. The patio is okay and being seated elsewhere is less so. I recently had the shrimp appetizer. It had good credentials but I thought the olives smothered the smell and taste. I hate shrimp tails even if they have a pedigree. Gluten free options. Not just salad but the most incredible pasta I have ever had, and they have pizzas too. My mom is allergic to gluten and dairy, and they were able to accommodate that as well with GF vegan pizza options. My non-gluten free family and friends enjoy it here just as much as I do - it's incredible for everybody. My favorite food. The gelato is lovely as well. I had an amazing experience at Pomo for dinner last night. The parking is a little frustrating because it's in downtown but it's well worth it! The inside is small but cozy. I got in around 7:45 PM and the waitress immediately informed me that reverse HH would start at 8 PM and to wait to order drinks as they'd all be half off. Amazing happy hour!! The cocktails were so good. Highly recommend the pomo lemondrop. My pasta was also very delicious and unique. I loved the whole calibrian chili used to garnish the pasta! I couldn't resist the gelato for dessert. They had so many flavors and the serving portion is quite generous. I'll be back the next time I'm in the PHX area! read more

This is an update to my 12.7.18 two-star review. First, I was impressed that Cricket Pearson, their regional manager, personally responded and apologized for the disappointing experience we had at Pomo's. She sent me a gift card, asking me to return, to give them another go & so glad we did. Right off the bat, Alec (or Alex?!), our server was a delight: kind, attentive and gracious. The music on the outdoor patio was so loud, my friend and I couldn't hear each other talk. We came to Pomo's to celebrate her relocating from Phoenix to the East Coast. When we asked Alec if the music could be lowered, he went in and did just that. No problem. We ordered a few different dishes: I ate the eggplant parm appetizer, a balanced ratio of eggplant, cheese and sauce, seasoned with basil. I liked that the eggplant was "pure," not coated in bread crumbs. We both had chopped salad: a fresh blend of cherry tomatoes, red onion, lettuces, almonds, avocado, generously peppered with feta cheese and tossed with a lemon vinaigrette. I ordered a side of bread with dipping olive oil for a mere $1.50. I asked for butter of course. All of their pastas are homemade so we were both excited to see gnocchi on the menu. Gnocchi is one of my go-to dishes when I dine at Italian restaurants. My friend ordered this but their version was a joyless jumble of large-cut overcooked gnocchi, melted cheese, in a bland tomato sauce. The gnocchi themselves were dense, like heavy pieces of boiled dough. IMO, the best gnocchi are smaller and fluffier. Since this was my friend's dish and her special occasion, we ordered another one. Alec graciously brought a second plate that was, unfortunately, not better. I think it would have been wiser to order a completely different dish. I did have that second dish of gnocchi boxed to take home, so my Italian neighbor could sample it & he was a "no" on the gnocchi as well so... We shared an Amerena Cherry gelato, savoring the divine rich flavor, a sweet vein of cherry running through it. When I reviewed our bill, we weren't charged for it, so I ran in & told our server about the mistake. He told me it was comped b/c of the gnocchi. Wow that wasn't necessary but appreciate the gesture, Alec :) Moving on! The restaurant IS called Pomo's Pizzeria & sad to say, I still haven't tried their pizza. We will definitely return and try one of their many unusual pizza combos as well as their other homemade pastas - perhaps the strozzapreti or tagliatelle + they have pizza with gluten-free crust. Downtown Phoenix Pomo's is super appealing: city location & atmosphere, outdoor patio dining options, exceptional service, and some delicious dishes. Again I appreciate the conscientiousness of management to give us an opportunity to sample Pomo's again. That kind of responsiveness is rare. Grazie! read more

I went here with a group of friends and we loved it. We went there on a Saturday night without a reservation so we did have to wait. We ended up walking to an nearby bar to pass the time. It was definitely well worth the wait! We tried the panzanella salad, 2 kinds of pizza, gramigna boscaiola, calamari, and the gelato. The pizzas were so good. I loved the thin, crisp crusts and the toppings were paired well. None of us ever had gramigna pasta before. The curly shapes were really fun and the sauce was creamy and tasty. I hope I can find that pasta again! Luckily it was happy hour until the restaurant closed so we tried a bunch of drinks and the calamari at half off! It was such a great deal. The drinks were all really strong but tasty. We ended the night with the gelato. I liked the mango flavor but the luna was the best flavor of them all. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We often go to Durant's on such occasions, but we wanted something different. We considered the larder + the delta, but we'd never been there and didn't want to use our anniversary dinner to try out something new that we might not have liked. Pomo seemed like a good choice. Since the 1st Street location opened 9 years or so ago, we have been there more times than I can count, often sitting at the pizza bar, which, sadly, seems no longer to exist. We went there to celebrate my wife's retirement and have taken out of town guests there. We realized that it isn't fine dining, but we have had good experiences, great service, outstanding pizza, limoncello, Matteo, and a unique combination of charming Italian and urban cool. This would be our first visit since the pandemic began. The server took our drink order and I asked for a Hendrick's martini with some detailed characteristics. He repeated it back to me and a couple of minutes later he came back and made sure that he had the details right. We were impressed. As this was a special occasion we did not want to be rushed. He came by to take our orders and seemed a bit frustrated that we weren't ready to order. We got the Mediterranea bruschetta, which we had not ordered before. It wasn't a hit, we should have stuck with the Pomodora, it was dry and we had to ask for some olive oil to perk it up. The bread was great and we were going to ask the server where the bread came from, but we never got that chance. We sat with the board and dirty dishes from the bruschetta for quite a long time. There appeared to be a busboy milling about but he didn't come near us. A different server showed up with the pizzas. I asked if the table could be cleared and she didn't seem to like that. She failed to determine which pizza belonged to who and got it wrong. We were left with no plates and no silverware. We had also wanted to order another drink. My wife had to get up and walk over to our original server and ask him to take care of these issues. He then slammed the dishes down on our table. We had to flag him down again to ask for the drinks. When we asked for the spicy pizza oil he seemed particularly upset, again slamming it down on our table. Once he walked past our table and seemed to be asking if everything was ok, but he kept walking, not having a chance for us to respond. At one point I asked him what we had done to tick him off so badly, and of course he denied that there were any issues. I had the Burratella pizza, which was great. My wife's Don Alfonso was a bit too soggy in the middle. We normally would have lingered, had the limoncello, maybe some espresso, it was supposed to have been a celebration. We did not finish the pizza, asked for a box (again slammed down on the table), ordered a Lyft and got out of there. We have never experienced service this bad, downright hostile, and needless to say we'll not be coming back. Separate from this one individual's behavior, the lesson learned is that Pomo is no longer a "unique combination of charming Italian and urban cool", it's just a pizza place, and there are plenty of those available. read more

I have been coming to Pomo for many years--not just for the food, but for the excellent service, attention to detail, and friendliness. By job affords me the opportunity to work remotely and I make it a point to visit Lani, the bartender, several times a week. It didn't take her long to know me by name and remember by orders. I've watched her bartend, and she's exceptionally talented in her trade. Wow, I'm actually shocked I haven't reviewed this place considering Pomo, Spinato's, and LGO are my top three favorite pizza places in the Phoenix metro area - given that Phoenix has a LOT of good pizza spots, I think that says a lot! Also, on that top 3 - they're all pretty different in their style of pizza, so sorry for bringing competitors up in your 5 star review, Pomo, but at least you guys all do something pretty different! Onto why Pomo is so great - first off, of my Phoenix favs, it's the closest to Italian style pizza being the Napoletana style. The crush/dough is always perfectly made and I absolutely love their choices in flavor combos. I'm not finding it on their menu anymore which is sad but I've had a white pizza there with an egg on it that's absolutely delicious - I hope they bring it back!!! I also like their diavola and their bufala Verace. This is also such a cute little location that has a nice intimate feel to it. Great spot for a date! I definitely can't wait until the pandemic subsides and I can feel comfortable dining in again because they're too far to deliver for me but the Gilbert location is closed right now! read more

I wish I would've taken a picture. We ordered the Quattro Stagioni pizza for delivery and the picture online shows all the toppings spread on the pizza. But what we received was a pizza where each sliced had only 1 topping on it. It was very weird. We had to mix the toppings up ourself. Say what you want about the thin crust vs NY vs Chicaco Deep Dish debate. All pizza is good but wood fired Neapolitan is THE BEST and it's not close. Nothing beats a bright, slightly sour tomato sauce, fresh mozz, and a good flame-kissed crust. Living nearby, I'm lucky enough to get it straight from the oven to my door. Here's what I love: The Pizza Principe: Every pizzeria of this style should have their version of this--shaved parmesan, arugula, prosciutto...what's not to love? I find myself wanting to branch out and try more of the menu, and each time I return I come back to this familiar pie. Delicious. Yes I've had the Diavolo (soppressata) and Don Alfonso (soppressata, sausage, bell pepper) and they were good, just not as good. There was a Grubhub issue which was not the restaurant's issue. GrubHub reordered the pizzas which arrived on time. We have picked up orders from this restaurant is the past and really enjoyed their food. Tonight's order arrived cold, even though the driver had a hot bag and had picked it up less than 30 minutes prior. Using an instant read thermometer, both pizzas registered 75 degrees. In addition, instead of a sausage pizza, one of the pizzas had no sausage but anchovies. No idea what happened with this restaurant but very disappointed. read more

I sorta don't want to review this place because of how good it is lol. Best gelato and Italian place in the city in my opinion. (Especially after Cheesecake Factory bought out North Italia from Fox Restaurant Concepts) For gelato you have to try the pistachio passion fruit. It's so unique and has passion fruit seeds mixed in with a delicious creamy pistachio. It sounds a bit strange but definitely well worth it. The strawberry gelato is amazing too! So refreshing. The food is just like what you would get in Italy and they place a high emphasis on quality and after 4 visits nothing has failed to impress. This downtown location is just as good as their Scottsdale location. Stefano Fabbri and team are doing an amazing job keeping the quality and service great. Shoutout to our to-go waitress also! She was kicking ass on a Friday night handling the busy crowd at the gelato, dine-in and to-go stations and it was truly inspiring to see. Met a date for lunch today and I was glad to have reservations as they were a little busy but not crazy. Our waitress was nice enough but her laryngitis made it a little difficult to understand. We shared a Caparese salad and it was very good as well as a side of bread which was one of those great breads I could easily eat several. We had the Ortolano pizza with roasted red pepper , eggplant and zucchini. While it was a tasty pie it was one soggy eat with a fork kinda pie with a wider crust then I'd like. No way to eat this pie by picking it up. It would have been nice to have my ice tea not go completely empty and ice is a big part of Iced tea. You'd think there was an ice shortage. Pizzas can be ready-to-eat or prepped for take-and-bake at home. Their focaccia style is really light, great flavor. Pinsa Bufalotta was also good. I Love You Pomo!!! Italy couldn't do it better, this place is fantastic!! We tried Pomo for Valentine's Day. The reviews were great, but you never really know what to expect. We started with Bufala Verace Pizza (Margarita w/ fancier cheese) and Frittura Mista (fried calamari & shrimp) for apps. Throughout my search for the perfect Margarita pizza, I haven't found anything close to this. It was divine!!! All a pizza lover could ask for!! We ended up getting another. After, we got mushroom soup and Gramigna alla Boscai which were both insane as well! The pasta actually took my breathe away!! That hasn't happened for over two years. This was all followed by gelato; get the Coppetta (samoa Girl Scout cookie). To add to the wonderful night, Feti'ya was an incredible server! One of the best I've had! We were here February 20 after having been there for drinks several days earlier. We sat at the bar again this time but closer to the pizza making station so that we could watch. We had an order of the meatballs as an appetizer they were really, really tasty with a nice flavorful marinara sauce. We also had the pizza Rimini inferno which was supposed to be super spicy and it was. At $16.95 it was the most expensive pizza on the menu with a very, very thin crust and lots of toppings. I like the atmosphere of this restaurant (although the low amount of lighting outside makes it hard to take good yelp photos if you are eating here for dinner hahaha). I saw on yelp that people recommended the meatballs and that the pizzas here were good. So we ordered the meatballs and the Principe pizza. Now the pizza was delicious. I would definitely get that again. But I was so disappointed by the meatballs. Two meatballs on a plate that tasted mediocre. But again, the taste of the pizza somewhat made up for it and for that reason, I would consider coming back again after seeing what else Phoenix has to offer. Parking is as you would expect parking in downtown to be like...street parking mainly.
