I give this place two stars because there's nothing else nearby (except a place called "no name diner", really. And a closed down pizza place). Service was super fast. I'm not sure if it's because there was no one in there or they're always like that. The beef, rather, "grease" beef burrito tasted just like a taco bell burrito. On the plus side, you will not go hungry for awhile- the portions are massive. Order one and take home leftovers. Portions are big and staff is friendlier than I've experienced in the past but the food STILL needs seasoning. All you taste is salt or blandness. I got the chicken quesadilla with almost all the toppings but you couldn't tell because it just tastes like mash. Extras are going to cost you here which kind of annoys me. I understand for guacamole but do you really have to charge $1 if I want to add jalapeños to your truly bland food? I really hope they figure it out because I would eat here way more often if the food "popped" in my mouth and I craved it. When you ask everybody at work where to get the best breakfast burrito in town and they all same the same place, then you know it has to be good. First time eating here I ordered the chorizo burrito with everything. I was impressed that everything they used was cooked to order and the burrito is made right in front of you. The staff was super friendly and the coat of the burrito was a steal for how much I got. The thing weighed at least 2 pounds!(probably not, but it was heavy) It tasted great as well. I'm going to have to take a nap after eating it. Highly recommend giving Ponchito's Taqueria a try. read more

They forgot two of our tacos once and when they brought them to us I swear they put SO much stuff in them it was like each one was two tacos. We love everything about this place. Syracuse's first West Coast style taqueria. It's a bare bones type of place with fluorescent lights and a few Formica tables but the food rocks. They have very late hours on weekends to accommodate the late night post-bar and munchies crowd and also do a very steady take-out business for lunch. The "regualr" burrito is huge and the Super Burrito is really two meals worth of food. They offer a choice of corn or flour tortilla and also a choice. of black or pinto beans. Ask for the hot sauce if you like it spicy but keep in mind that all the other "extras" they offer are charged by the item. Add sour cream, guacamole, peppers etc and your $5 burrito can ratchet up to $8 pretty darn quick. I have alo tried the "tacos" (real tacos not Taco bell style) and the pappas frites (like Irish Chips) . Nice people... fast service... a real winner. They even have that tasty Jariscos Mexican soda that's made with real sugar instead of corn syrup sweetners. read more

This is a step above the atrocious Boom Boom Mex Mex, but not by much. Because it's one of the few places open until 3 am on weekends, it'll squeak by with 3 stars. I got extra hot sauce on my burrito and it wasn't even remotely spicy. The hot sauce had a nice citrusy taste to it, but it was definitely mild. We ordered delivery for the first time and it was absolutely fantastic. We had two super burritos and let me tell you you better think twice unless you can truly eat a lot because their jam packed with a lot of meat and everything else they were truly amongst the biggest burritos we've had in a long time and they really crush Moes, they leave Moes in the dust! First, go hungry. We went, it was worth the short walk (my family is car free...) Anyway. it's a little hole in the wall type of place. The crew was great as we tried to make up our minds. Best part. Made to order. A person in front of me had so many additions and subtractions base on their allergies, I thought the crew was going to get upset. Instead they took in stride and suggested other items for him to put on his burrito. The burritos are huge. Let's put it this way. I ate there for lunch and for supper just a light salad, i was still full ! Between the four of us we tried all the meats, except the chicken. Mine was the beer braised pork. Very lean, and flavorful. If you want it spicier they do have a wide amount of sauces on the tables for you to try. The green habenareo was my favorite. And I normally hate hot sauces. Like I said it's a hole in the wall. Don't expect a fancy place to eat. But if you are going there to get a good meal, for the same price as the fast food joints, you will not be disappointed. read more

One of my "go to" takeout places when the hubbie is out of town. The place is nothing to write home about but the food is awesome. As noted in the first review, it's the only taqueria in town but they do it up right. Run by an Italian family with many, many kids, the service is always great. The guys behind the counter are friendly and quick to make a burrito or quesadilla. The downside - their puerco carnitas is so popular that they are often out when I stop in. They get a unique cliente ranging from patrons of the bar next door to cops to friends of the guys running the place so it's often a good people watching spot while waiting for your food. They have recently started serving breakfast but I've not had a chance to stop by but the chorizo-egg burrito sounds yummy. read more

I've spent a lot of time in Texas and eaten many many tacos and this was not great. They should spend less on portion sizes and more on ingredients. Food was good but the delivery boy has a bad attitude. When he dropped off my food he didn't have enough change for 20$ on a 13$ order. He was short so he told me he would go back and get the rest if I wanted. Mind you this restaurant is literally a minute drive from my house. When he got back with the rest of my change he said, "Your generosity is overwhelming." Implying I should have just let him keep the more than 30% of the price of my order as a tip. Then he walked away. He didn't even give me a chance to tip him the 2$ I was going to. I just moved into this area tonight and this was my first delivery order. What a terrible experience. read more

We had the Ponchitos Taqueria Food Truck come to our home as catering for a baby shower. It was a great idea and worked out perfectly. The menu was decided on ahead of time, the truck arrived early to set up and then once it was time to eat, all the guests had to do was go outside, order their food, and voila - delicious food was serviced fast & hot! We didn't even have to worry about plates or utensils because everything was provided by Ponchitos. When their time was up the truck packed up and left and we were not left with any dirty pots or dishes to clean up. Everyone raved about the food, convenience, and overall enjoyment of the fun & new idea of having a food truck at your house. We can't thank Ponchitos enough for the open communication during the party planning, their delivery of quality food and service, ease of having the party's food handled and most importantly happy & full guests. We would definitely recommend them to others for a party or corporate event. read more

I wasn't going to review this place because I have a bias against Mexican food that isn't from the West Coast, but I figured Syracuse could use a variety of opinions, especially that from a young, transcontinental girl with some experience. The moment I stepped into this hole-in-the-wall (which is not said to be demeaning), I knew it was going to be a great oily time of food and experimentation. They had tacos, burritos (in large, which is rice, black or pinto beans, salsa; or regular, which has no rice), and little sides. Choices of meat: carnitas, steak, chicken, and I think they had this fried specialty. (Yes, they have options for you pretentious vegetarians who are cheating by eating heavy, greasy food and calling yourself an herbivore). Anyway, I got a regular steak burrito for $6ish. The salsa was lost in the black abyss of steak and beans. I kid you not, they STUFFED it with meat that dripped oil. I suppose this is a good joint for men who love quantity over quality. I don't blame them. If I was starving, I'd come back. But if you want to do clean (which is contradictory to Mexican), stick with Chipotle. I thought it was pretty cheap that they make you pay for jalepenos. Why did I even get them when I don't like them anyway? My fault. They have guacamole as an extra too, which I didn't try, but it's hard to go wrong with guac. I also don't think I saw horchatas on the menu. Its name is misleading. It should be called Chad's Taqueria or some kind of non-Spanish sounding name. The fact that both words in the name sound like they know what they're doing set me up for disappointment. If you have no idea what a real Taqueria is like, then you will probably like Ponchito's Taqueria. I had a chicken burrito and it lacked flavor. The salsa was unimpressive. The rest of the meat choices looked greasy so that's why I went with the chicken. I had the small burrito and it could have fed two people. The portions are definitely generous. The crew behind the counter was helpful and friendly. I'm not a fan of Taco Bell. In fact, I've only eaten at a Taco Bell about 5 times in my lifetime (i'm in my 30's). If I had to pick between Taco Bell and Ponchito's I would go with Taco Bell in a heartbeat. Ponchito's is NOT for me. read more

i use to love this place but ever since the DAD gave it to the sons to run the food is bland and not worth the money.

this was my first try at Ponchitos and I did so based on seeing the burritos that my coworkers had brought back a few weeks prior, they were huge and looked good; and they swear they are, I had tacos though. Pro: large tacos, I should have gotten 1 vs. the 2 I ordered. Cons: Menu says corn tortillas for taco's, which is why I went there, I was given flour (good thing I'm not allergic to gluten). Pork was bland and bathed in fat, which I'm normally ok with, but it was not good tasting crispy pork fat, but gross drippy watery fat. I expected queso fresco at a Mexican taco stand. Sauce tasted like Old el Paso from the supermarket Guacamole tasted like it had been weirdly processed, and had no real avocado flavor. I should have just ordered take out from Mission where I would have spent $3 more, but would have gotten beans and rice too! I see the appeal to go here at 2am after the bar, but I won't be going back for it. read more

Transplant from Cali for a military assignment so my Mexican food standards are consequently pretty damn high and this place blew me away. Phenomenal food!! Meat is marinated to perfection, everything is expertly seasoned and prepared and the employees are always courteous. The prices are hard to beat as well. We found it because we were in town for a wedding and wanted "Mexican" food. While it isn't a typical American Mexican restaurant, that's ok. The food is tasty and the portions are huge. The prices are fair, and the people are nice. What more do you want? It isn't a different kind of restaurant. It is basically a food truck, indoors.
