Really yummy place!! Myself and a few co-workers stopped by for lunch. It's really close to CDC Chamblee Campus, University Park, and Mercer Campus. The parking lot is a little tight but the restaurant is not that big. Carpool though if you can. Inside is super inviting and clean. They even have a free alkaline water station for customers. I ordered the breaded ponko chicken strips, spicy, with fries and coleslaw. Those ponko fries were amazing! I loved the sauce on the strips and not to mention how TENDER those chicken tenders were. Omg, it was a really delicious lunch. We sat outside and the staff was nice enough to bring our food out to us! I enjoyed my time here and will be back for sure. I came here two days in row because the chicken is just. that. good. I ordered the chicken strip combo plate for about $11. I did half and half, original and spicy (which wasn't spicy at all but both had GREAT flavor). I also ordered the ponko fries and was in love. On one of the occasions I went, I also ordered the green tea mochi, really excited they have this as well! The coleslaw was okay, I'm a sucker for some great coleslaw so I was a little disappointed, but everything else was on point. This chicken really is delicious. You will be hooked. I'm warning you now. The only downfall is that there isn't much indoor seating, so I normally order to go. They have a small selection of Japanese snacks, and the food doesn't take too long to make. The menu here is dead simple. You're coming here for crispy juicy tasty chicken tenders. Everything else is just a side to the chicken. The "Eats meets West" is held true here from the fried chicken standpoint. After that it's the sides and seasonings that are the "Eatsern" flair. Here is what we ordered: Salad with Ponko Chicken Ponko Spicy Sauce and Sweet Sesame Dressing on the side: basically their Ponko (Panko) chicken tenders cut up and placed on top of a salad. The spicy Ponko sauce was just the right amount of heat. Probably a medium buffalo style sauce. Chicken had a nice crunchy outside and juicy/tender inside. Panko does that, retains crunch. Plate with Ponko Chicken, Ponko Sauce, Ponko Fries, and Potato Salad: Ponko Sauce is basically a mirin and shoyu (soy sauce) base. Definitely a Japanese flavor staple. Close to teriyaki sauce. Ponko Fries were pretty good. Seems to be fried with some Panko as well and seasoned with a blend of sesame, roasted seaweed, etc. Really good. Potato salad tastes very much 'classic Japanese' taste. Last was a Kids menu item which you can get grilled or 'Ponko' chicken tenders (choice of sauce as well). Rice (Japanese style sticky rice), Fries, or something else can't remember. Comes with a juice box or other drink and baby carrots with ranch. Lastly, there is currently only limited bench type seating inside with more tables outside. They do appear in the process of expanding for more indoor dining. They also serve beer here too. This is a usual in our food delivery options for weekends with friends. I'm a fan of fried chicken in general and Ponko is a nice twist on the category. Fried food is usually a tough order but the fries and chicken all heat up easily in the oven for a quick crisp. I'm a fan of the 5 piece tender with sides. The fries have a nice crisp to them (I prefer them over the sweet potato fries). The ponko rice is a nice add for a side as well, has a bit of sweetness on the sauce they have on it. Two other small nice touches would be their pickles are light and thin. And the big win is the ranch! It's a little watery than usual but has a great flavor and add to the chicken. If you're in the mood for some fast casual, but higher quality food, I would recommend! The prices are a little higher than what'd you'd expect for fast food, but the portion sizes are large in my opinion. I got the ponko chicken platter, but the spicy option (not spice at all to me). I love fries so it's hard to disappoint me in that area, because to me all fries can win me over, they were seasoned with seaweed crisps which i thought added a nice flavor. The chicken wasn't as crispy as i'd want it to be or was expecting it, but it might've been because i got the spicy one which was coated in sauce. I first had PONKO as a catering order at work. I was really blown away by the food, the tenders, salads & rice and surprisingly even the vegan patty. That vegan patty was so good, I thought "if I could eat these every day, I could do the vegan life". My next PONKO experience, came from a coworker who offered me some of her takeout. Again great food! I decided I was going to go to the restaurant myself in the near future. Unfortunately my personal PONKO relationship ended prematurely. I ordered takeout one day with a coworker only to get back to the office and see our orders were entirely wrong - it happens. My final PONKO experience happened recently when dined in on a week day. I ordered a tender plate and a speciality tea-lemonade. Without drawing out this story, I'll say they were out of the speciality tea-lemonade and no refund was issued, I found hair in my food and the main cashier/server was a high school kid who was more interested in sitting in the dining area with his friends. The food is awesome and the customer service is so good. The food is crispy and juicy, the chicken is crispy and has a nice texture when you bite down. They have a nice selection of sieves for the chicken and the fries are the perfect amount of crispy and potatoness. The rice is nice and good but sometimes it can be under cooked and that's really my only problem.The workers check in on you from time to time and they are so nice. I always go with my friends becuase the environment is so chill and the vibes are laid back. Shoot, I really wanted to like Ponko Chicken because of the concept and other great reviews. Unfortunately the food just missed the mark for me. I got the Ponko Chicken Plate with fries and rice. I thought the chicken itself had great flavor and even more so when dipped in the sweet sauce, but the other two items were really not special at all (especially the rice). I also ordered the hot dog because who doesn't want to investigate what an Asian fried hot dog is?! I wouldn't consider myself the most adventurous eater, per se, so this was a little too far outside of my wheelhouse. All of the items had a very strong soy/umami undertone that was just a little too much for me. Yes, I get that this is an Asian fusion concept, but there are other flavors in Japanese cuisine. I also got the Betty Cookie which is a cross between chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin. I really enjoyed this item as well. I think I'd probably try Ponko Chicken again and stick to the chicken items, and also try to find more exciting sides. And it was the best decision that we made! The parking was decent. When we went, they weren't too busy either. The inside was spacious and they had a bar as well! I ordered the plate, which comes with 2 sides. The patty doesn't come with rice, you'll have to choose rice as a side. And I also ordered the seasoned fries! At the table, they bring you ranch, and soy sauce in a bottle. I got the patty as a spicy patty as well. The patty itself wasn't really spicy in my opinion. Although the patty was delicious and the food, I think that it would've been even better if they had a thousand island sauce mixture like the Japanese would have it. I've been coming here since they opened and usually love their ponko chicken plate with OG sauce but the last two times I've ordered pick up from here has been so bad I'm starting to question if this is the same management and ponko chicken I grew to love. The chicken is over cooked, borderline burnt, with no flavor even in the OG sauce. The fries were completely different and similarly had no flavor and missing a lot of the key seasoning I'm used to seeing on it. I LOVE PONKO! Ponko Chicken is located in Chamblee and their building is super cute and decorated nicely. The parking lot can get pretty crowded, especially around lunch time, but if you come at night, it's not so bad. I tried it for the first time at concessions at Super Bowl 53 and had to come find the restaurant! The chicken at the restaurant was much bigger! (and of the course the prices were cheaper too, lol) Their tacos are pretty yummy and you can get them without onions too! I like to get the chicken box that comes with 5 tenders and two sides. Always get the rice! It goes SO WELL with the chicken! The side salad is decent -- I always get sesame dressing! Came here Sunday and I'll be back Thursday! The food here is fantastic and unique. I got the PONKO chicken BBQ sandwich with PONKO fries and everything was excellent. The breading on the chicken is the perfect crunchyness and thickness. It is between being a Chick-fil-a chicken strip and traditional fried chicken. I am not normally a fan of coleslaw but the coleslaw that came on my sandwich was a great addition - didn't even scrape it off. The value here is great too. My gourmet sandwich and fries came to just $10. It's awesome to get an upgrade to my fast food fave for only $10. I've been hearing about this place for a while and I finally came here because they were listed in the Atlanta Dining Out Passbook (note that the coupon only applies to tenders + 1 side and not other menu items like salads or sandwiches!). The interior is absolutely gorgeous and the restaurant still looks very new. I sat by the bar so I could grab one of their many beers on taps. Fun fact - they serve their own Ponko Beer and it's only $2 during their happy hour! I ended up getting some spicy tenders and some fries. Lots of flavor to the tenders and they have a bit of a honey-tasting sweetness to them. I wish the fries were loaded with more of that delicious seasoning they put on it, but I still highly recommend! I absolutely loved the food here and I plan to come back. read more

The first time I visited, I took the recommendation from the friendly lady behind the counter suggested I get the Ponko plate with chicken tenders, and two sides (she suggested rice and fries--total carb fest--don't judge me). Nom nom nom nom. I've eaten at Ponko 2 times since I first discovered them through their partnership with Fooda with my work. PONKO specializes in fried chicken with a Japanese twist. They offer yummy sides paired with their chicken options and all sides I've tried were delicious. This last time I visited I ordered spicy fried chicken strips platter win a side of rice and sweet potato fries. I drizzled the spicy sauce and ranch on them as well. The chicken came out piping hot when you bit into it, it dropped juice. It was actually so good. They ran out of Ponko fries so we got the sweet potato fries instead and they were just as good. So crispy and yummy. The only thing I think could be improved in the future is that the rice came out slightly lumpy and not quite fluffy, which I would have preferred. It may have been my high expectations that set me up for disappointment OR, maybe my 2 PONKO chicken strip order was a fluke. I ordered 2 original strips and found them to be too salty. It looks like they drizzle or toss the strips in the PONKO sauce and maybe they used too much (?). Whatever it was, the chicken, thought nicely breaded, was too salty. Two redeeming things were the PONKO fries (I recommend drizzling them in their ranch dressing), and the $5 green tea margarita. Now if you've read my other reviews, then you'd know I am a sucker for margaritas and other cocktails under $6. I essentially got a meal (2 chicken strips + PONKO fries) AND a full-sized margarita for $11 - WHA!?!! I am not sure where else I could get such a deal.
