The prices are a little higher than what'd you'd expect for fast food, but the portion sizes are large in my opinion. I got the ponko chicken platter, but the spicy option (not spice at all to me). I love fries so it's hard to disappoint me in that area, because to me all fries can win me over, they were seasoned with seaweed crisps which i thought added a nice flavor. The chicken wasn't as crispy as i'd want it to be or was expecting it, but it might've been because i got the spicy one which was coated in sauce. I first had PONKO as a catering order at work. I was really blown away by the food, the tenders, salads & rice and surprisingly even the vegan patty. That vegan patty was so good, I thought "if I could eat these every day, I could do the vegan life". My next PONKO experience, came from a coworker who offered me some of her takeout. Again great food! I decided I was going to go to the restaurant myself in the near future. Unfortunately my personal PONKO relationship ended prematurely. I ordered takeout one day with a coworker only to get back to the office and see our orders were entirely wrong - it happens. My final PONKO experience happened recently when dined in on a week day. I ordered a tender plate and a speciality tea-lemonade. Without drawing out this story, I'll say they were out of the speciality tea-lemonade and no refund was issued, I found hair in my food and the main cashier/server was a high school kid who was more interested in sitting in the dining area with his friends. Everything here is good, and although the value for the money is not quite perfect, It doesn't prevent me from visiting when I'm in the neighborhood and need a nice change of pace. Tried their 5 piece chicken tenders with 2 sides for $10. Fast and friendly staff that gives you a number and brings food to you. Chicken is really flavorful, crispy, and has a little perfect amount of sweet on it. Both the original and bbq were good but the original has good flavoring to stand alone as well. Its great with the rice side if you want something more filling but i enjoyed their potato salad and cole slaw as well. Easy parking and spacious inside to accomodate larger groups. Shoot, I really wanted to like Ponko Chicken because of the concept and other great reviews. Unfortunately the food just missed the mark for me. I got the Ponko Chicken Plate with fries and rice. I thought the chicken itself had great flavor and even more so when dipped in the sweet sauce, but the other two items were really not special at all (especially the rice). I also ordered the hot dog because who doesn't want to investigate what an Asian fried hot dog is?! I wouldn't consider myself the most adventurous eater, per se, so this was a little too far outside of my wheelhouse. All of the items had a very strong soy/umami undertone that was just a little too much for me. Yes, I get that this is an Asian fusion concept, but there are other flavors in Japanese cuisine. I also got the Betty Cookie which is a cross between chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin. I really enjoyed this item as well. I think I'd probably try Ponko Chicken again and stick to the chicken items, and also try to find more exciting sides. I ordered online and picked up in person, and this is one of those establishments where they leave your food bag on a shelf with your name and you can pick it up at your leisure, which I thought was also really convenient. read more

Stopped by because of my passbook influenced me! We also have some friends in my group who love chicken. Seeing that this place has both chicken and veggie patty, we decided to give this place a try! And it was the best decision that we made! The parking was decent. When we went, they weren't too busy either. The inside was spacious and they had a bar as well! I ordered the plate, which comes with 2 sides. The patty doesn't come with rice, you'll have to choose rice as a side. And I also ordered the seasoned fries! At the table, they bring you ranch, and soy sauce in a bottle. I got the patty as a spicy patty as well. The patty itself wasn't really spicy in my opinion. Although the patty was delicious and the food, I think that it would've been even better if they had a thousand island sauce mixture like the Japanese would have it. I've been coming here since they opened and usually love their ponko chicken plate with OG sauce but the last two times I've ordered pick up from here has been so bad I'm starting to question if this is the same management and ponko chicken I grew to love. The chicken is over cooked, borderline burnt, with no flavor even in the OG sauce. The fries were completely different and similarly had no flavor and missing a lot of the key seasoning I'm used to seeing on it. I LOVE PONKO! Ponko Chicken is located in Chamblee and their building is super cute and decorated nicely. The parking lot can get pretty crowded, especially around lunch time, but if you come at night, it's not so bad. I tried it for the first time at concessions at Super Bowl 53 and had to come find the restaurant! The chicken at the restaurant was much bigger! (and of the course the prices were cheaper too, lol) Their tacos are pretty yummy and you can get them without onions too! I like to get the chicken box that comes with 5 tenders and two sides. Always get the rice! It goes SO WELL with the chicken! The side salad is decent -- I always get sesame dressing! Their sweet potato fries are also decent but I think I might prefer the ponko fries over them! It's a very close battle! If you haven't tried it...JUST DO IT! Came here Sunday and I'll be back Thursday! The food here is fantastic and unique. I got the PONKO chicken BBQ sandwich with PONKO fries and everything was excellent. The breading on the chicken is the perfect crunchyness and thickness. It is between being a Chick-fil-a chicken strip and traditional fried chicken. I am not normally a fan of coleslaw but the coleslaw that came on my sandwich was a great addition - didn't even scrape it off. The value here is great too. I've been hearing about this place for a while and I finally came here because they were listed in the Atlanta Dining Out Passbook (note that the coupon only applies to tenders + 1 side and not other menu items like salads or sandwiches!). The interior is absolutely gorgeous and the restaurant still looks very new. I sat by the bar so I could grab one of their many beers on taps. Fun fact - they serve their own Ponko Beer and it's only $2 during their happy hour! I ended up getting some spicy tenders and some fries. Lots of flavor to the tenders and they have a bit of a honey-tasting sweetness to them. I wish the fries were loaded with more of that delicious seasoning they put on it, but I still highly recommend! I absolutely loved the food here and I plan to come back. read more

The first time I visited, I took the recommendation from the friendly lady behind the counter suggested I get the Ponko plate with chicken tenders, and two sides (she suggested rice and fries--total carb fest--don't judge me). Nom nom nom nom. I've eaten at Ponko 2 times since I first discovered them through their partnership with Fooda with my work. PONKO specializes in fried chicken with a Japanese twist. They offer yummy sides paired with their chicken options and all sides I've tried were delicious. This last time I visited I ordered spicy fried chicken strips platter win a side of rice and sweet potato fries. I drizzled the spicy sauce and ranch on them as well. The chicken came out piping hot when you bit into it, it dropped juice. It was actually so good. They ran out of Ponko fries so we got the sweet potato fries instead and they were just as good. So crispy and yummy. The only thing I think could be improved in the future is that the rice came out slightly lumpy and not quite fluffy, which I would have preferred. Overall, the restaurant was super clean, it has a nice vibe and the wait staff was so nice. We can't wait to go back to Ponko. It was truly a fantastic dining experience! read more

After reading the rave reviews and hearing about PONKO's success at Taste of Atlanta, I had to try this place. It may have been my high expectations that set me up for disappointment OR, maybe my 2 PONKO chicken strip order was a fluke. I ordered 2 original strips and found them to be too salty. It looks like they drizzle or toss the strips in the PONKO sauce and maybe they used too much (?). Whatever it was, the chicken, thought nicely breaded, was too salty. Two redeeming things were the PONKO fries (I recommend drizzling them in their ranch dressing), and the $5 green tea margarita. Now if you've read my other reviews, then you'd know I am a sucker for margaritas and other cocktails under $6. I essentially got a meal (2 chicken strips + PONKO fries) AND a full-sized margarita for $11 - WHA!?!! I am not sure where else I could get such a deal. For a little backstory, I sampled PONKO's gallinaceous offerings at a Yelp event many moons ago but only finally made it to actual restaurant earlier this month. Better eventually than never! PONKO Chicken was my target for a quick snack/mini meal while out running errands. The location is a but an egg's throw from I-85, plopped in an office park. There was free parking surrounding the building. I ordered the Basic Salad ($7) which came out in a reasonable timeframe. I customized my salad so that I got the 3 chopped up chicken tenders and sweet sesame dressing. I was actually surprised that the salad was a decent portion size. The crunchy wonton strips that acted as croutons were a great touch. The bulk of the greens were lettuce and I know it's a "basic" salad, but it still might be nice to add in a sprinkle of other veggies like tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. I did spot a tangle of carrot threads in the mix. The chicken was breaded well (not too thick) and juicy. Sweet sesame dressing was on point. PONKO is an order-at-the-counter-and-seat-yourself joint. The restrooms are located downstairs. Plenty of stalls for all. Will be back! read more

Yummmyyyyyy. I love PONKO Chicken. They have a unique menu with a twist on things. It's a great spot for lunch, dinner, carry out, or even go study. They have daily specials on their food and drinks. I usually get the PONKO Chicken plate with their Ponko fries and sticky rice. The chicken is always on point and cooked to perfection. Never had an issue with the employees either. I wish I episode checked in each time I've eaten here so ya know I'm not lying ;) When ordering for delivery or pick-up, ask them to poke holes in the box so your food doesn't get soggy. Whatever you order from PONKO it will not disappoint. I've had the vegan and regular tenders, fries, mac salad, pickles, rice, and salad. Their ranch is top tier and can compete with the house-made wingstop ranch, and it's also available for purchase in ~6 oz. bottles. Highly recommend! Meh. Was in the area so wife and I stopped by to try something new. Love the fusion idea. The restaurant interior was bright and trendy. The guy behind the counter was friendly. What caught my eye on the menus was the Kamikaze Fries. It's was a bowl with fries, Asian slaw and topped with Panko chicken. Fries were crispy and hot, the slaw was good, but what lacked was the chicken. The chicken was room temperature tossed in a sauce. It wasn't crispy. It's almost like the folks in the kitchen premade a batch of chicken and just has it sitting off to the side waiting for orders to come in. I would guess it probably only takes 2-3min to fry the chicken, it should probably be made to order. Seems like the kitchen could use some help. If the panko chicken was hot and crispy this would be an easy 4star review. read more
