This place looked different than before. New booths for dine-in. We got a spicy Vegan plate with potato salad and ponko fries, and a spicy Chicken sandwich with green beans and Ponko fries. I forgot the total. The spicy Vegan patty was not even spicy - more sweet. It was veggies mixed together and fried (7/10). I thought it came with rice as it was a little overseasoned for me. The spicy Chicken sandwich was not spicy but still tasty (9/10). The potato salad was my least favorite- tasted weird (4/10). The green beans were good (7/10). The Ponko fries were the best - crunchy (not too oily) and well-seasoned (100/10). Must try them with the ranch sauce. read more

Food was fine, service though was bad, The cashier charged me for an extra drink and didn't want to fix it. The restrooms are in the basement so if you're handy capable you should come here, I had to walk down two flights to use the restroom and when I did make it to the restroom there was no toilet paper at all. They need to get a double roll system or train their staff to check to see if the rolls almost out and replace it before it runs out. I was stuck in their basement cave of a restroom for 15 minutes, calling for help both on my phone and out loud but no one could hear me plus they don't have free WiFi so there is no way of calling out of their dungeon of a bathroom. I can't give it 0/5 stars so went with the 1/5 please fix this and be better! read more

I really liked my to-go lunch from PONKO! The tofu tenders were reallly good, love the spicy batter. The brown rice side with sauce was all delicious. Potato salad was also pretty good but not as memorable. I didn't love the island veggie mix. Will definitely order lunch here again. Good option to mix up the lunch rotation with an Asian fusion flavor. I will also say the to-go containers are paper which yayyy for the planet but logistically were a nightmare- things were spilling out and boxes flimsy as we carried them into the office. read more

Came here awhile back expecting greatness with the the reviews and word of mouth I have heard about PONKO. My experience: the atmosphere/outdoor seating is cool, the service is fast friendly and welcoming, the food...ehhh, I've had better. I was underwhelmed with the amount of flavor in my meal. I got the PONKO chicken tenders with sweet potato fries. The chicken is good, nice texture with the breading. There was just nothing distinguishing these tenders from another restaurant. At the $11 price point for 5 small tenders, I'll take my business elsewhere. I also got the potato salad and side of rice. As you can tell from my photo, 2-3 bites of each and I was done. The potato salad had no flavor and I make the same rice at home. I also got a green bean dish, which was a special add onto the menu during this time. As good as it looks, there was no flavor to the green beans outside of the onions. I prefer to not spend money for food I can make at home. The service and atmosphere saved this place for me. They have a great selection of beers, including a spacious bar and outdoor seating. As stated previously, the service/staff is very accommodating and friendly. Checked this location out as heard good things about this spot and was in town on business. Pretty nice and relatively healthy menu from chicken to tofu and vegan options. Tried a salad one day with spicy tofu and a plate day before...food all reasonably priced and portions really liberal. Ate there 2 days and could never finish my food. Taste wise, really good food and good value for price. Would most definitely recommend if in area and looking for a health food option. Pretty, darn good casual Japanese fried chicken joint. The decor is industrial and there's even a bar! You order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. Everything here kind of reminds me of Tin Drum. It's like a hip-fusion Asian atmosphere. I ended up getting the lighter portion of the salad bowl with the classic Ponko chicken which ended up being plenty of food for me. No leftovers though. Chicken was well seasoned and juicy. Salad was fresh enough. Definitely could have used more toppings to make it more interesting like tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, etc. My lunch partner also enjoyed his rice bowl with the Ponko chicken. The salad is $7 and it's a decent size too - and by the way if you order the salad "to go", it'll look small in the Chinese take-out box but trust me, they've compressed a lot of salad in that little container. At my last visit, i decided to try the "Island" chicken which is really Jerk chicken - whoa even more tasty than Ponko! My friends still prefer the Ponko but I'm a big fan of the Jerk. Oh and I love their space too, their light fixtures, even the order number blocks. Their sides are good - fries, sweet potato fries, potato salad. I've heard good things & been wanting to try it. This was a mixed bag for me. I'll say most of the food was 3 stars, everything else was 1 or 2 stars. First off, i see that 3 months ago someone commented on how slippery the floors are....and i see that the owner said it had been corrected. I'm sorry but no. The slippery floors were the first thing we noticed when walking to our table & to the bathroom, You have to shuffle your feet or end up flat on your behind. This place is a slip & fall accident waiting to happen. Placing our order was a pain....i repeated each items multiple times & still managed to receive a wrong order. I ordered 1 taco, fries, a hot dog with fries, a salad with chicken & a 2 piece chicken meal with 4 fountain drinks....with tip it was a $74 fast casual lunch. You don't get an itemized receipt & i wasn't about to go back and try to figure this out with the completely unhelpful staff. i realize it is hard everywhere to find help & i give grace, but it is frustrating. Now the food was tasty...except the grilled teriyaki chicken on the salad....it tasted old & was chewy, The chicken taco, the hot dog & sweet potato fries were quite good. Chicken fingers have been one of my favorite comfort foods ever since I can remember. I had an opportunity to try the original chicken fingers at a Yelp event recently and was really impressed. They're located on Chamblee Tucker Rd. Near some office buildings. They have a spacious, free parking lot. I was greeted upon my entrance. There were a few people ahead of me, but the line moved quickly. I placed an order for the 5 piece chicken tender plate that comes with 2 sides and pickles. I split the tenders between the ponko and spicy sauces. I got the sticky rice and ponko fries for sides. The total came to around $11 without a drink and the serving size was generous. The chicken tenders were absolutely scrumptious! The spicy sauce wasn't too spicy and had a nice flavor. The ponko sauce is light and sweet. The fries were delicious and I enjoyed the sticky rice. The pickles are a great addition to the entree. This is a great casual restaurant. They also serve wine, beer and dessert. I'm looking forward to returning to try more of the menu. read more

I had the opportunity to utilize our Fooda option at work and my oh my it was so good! I had the basic PONKO meal option which allowed me to have their famous sticky rice and breaded chicken. I also ordered the potato salad and all was just wonderful. I have nothing else to say but that it played on my tastebuds this afternoon! If you are looking for Asian twist and need something yummy. Once you try PONKO's, there's no going back. As a vegetarian, it might seem odd going to PONKO chicken but they have some of the best tofu! I tried the PONKO plate with the tofu tenders in OG sauce (must try) with their fries and rice! Everything is bursting of flavor and is cooked really well. I would have to say my favorite is the tacos. You can customize the tacos any way you like! I got 2 tofu tenders in OG sauce and 1 in the spicy sauce. I got it with coleslaw on top and it was absolutely phenomenal. I can't even begin to explain how tasty these tacos were and how filling they are. My first time trying Ponko Chicken was at a Yelp event when it first opened. I didn't have it again until 9 months later when I finally entered the restaurant itself. I've been twice and now and you can't deny the consistency in the cook of the chicken. The location is a bit odd, since it doesn't seem to be close to anything I ever frequent. I've ordered the original chicken tenders, which comes with three large marinated chicken tenders and rice, as well as a side. I got the miso sesame green beans, which were tasty, although not the most insta-worthy. The flavor ooriginal sauce is good but I prefer the chicken not so soaked in marinate. I also decided to go the lighter route for lunch and tried the basic salad meal, which comes with 3 piece tenders chopped up with greens and Wontons. I prefer the spicy marinade the most - not too spicy but just enough kick to make it interesting. I've also tried the Ponko Fries which are fried and seasoned beautifully. The chicken at Ponko is always perfectly cooked, never dry and always very tender and a little juicy. Definitely worth a try to visit the two time Taste of Atlanta winner! read more

My boyfriend and I came to PONKO around 3pm on a Sunday to get a quick bite. We ordered the chicken tenders with BBQ and original sauces with 2 extra tenders. For sides, we got the sweet potato fries and the seasonal special, which was green beans with fried onions and sesame sauce. Our food took a bit of time, probably because it wasn't during peak dining hours so there were fewer kitchen staff. I enjoyed the chicken tenders, it was crispy and the sauces were flavorful. I recommend getting rice as a side because they drizzle a decent amount of sauce on the tenders. The sweet potato fries were good, but the green beans were just OK. The green beans side was covered in fried onions and the sauce just tasted like a salty sesame paste. Food aside, the restaurant has a nice modern look with a neighborhood bar feel. They have interesting drink selections and have specials (e.g. taco Tuesdays and dawg day). This would be a cool place to hangout on a weekend or weekday evening if you lived in the area. read more

When I was in high school we went to Ponko before our Homecoming Dance. No joke. Around the time of our graduation the old Stone Mountain Ponko location shut down. I went to college and eventually left Georgia. Every now and then social media would alert me to Ponko pop-ups around Atlanta. I would envy my friends as they had the amazing taste of poncho fried chicken infused with high school nostalgia. Then it finally happened- Ponko returned. I go out of my way to visit the new Ponko location. It is somehow even better than I remembered from my high school days. The new store is way trendier as well! I am dying to come here for a happy hour experience, however I typically can only squeeze in my visits on the way back home to Virginia after a visit home to see family. My go to order is both the original and spicy chicken tenders, rice, and ponko fries. So delicious, salty, crispy, chicken heaven. Until Ponko expands outside of Atlanta I will continue to make every effort to get my Ponko-fix when I visit! read more

Well, we went to the one in Buckhead a couple years ago, so we thought let's go again since it was pretty good. Nope! We had all gone rock climbing, and figured we needed some fuel afterwards. We had passed this place on the way there, so we had told our friend it was a good spot. Never mind. I know places are challenged right now, but the wait was ridiculous. Secondly, the food was terrible. The chicken was rubbery like it'd been thawed and then nuked in the microwave, not to mention the paltry portion that was served. The teriyaki sauce tasted watered down, and the rice which is cheap, was filling half the bowl. It looked like a kid's meal. We all left hungry. I was so disappointed, as we all were, and for the two of us, those tiny bowls were $30. What a joke. I will never step foot in this place again. Do yourselves a favor, and keep driving. Best chicken in Atlanta, hands down. Love the uniqueness of everything PONKO has to offer. The chicken flavor is delicious but not overpowering, the rice with their amazing teriyaki sauce and the seaweed fries are ALL worth driving across Atlanta for if that's what it takes to get a plate of their outstanding food. Loved the chicken we got here recently. It's perfectly spiced and has a savory flavor leaving you undecided whether the teriyaki or the original is better. You really can't go wrong with either and price vis-a-vis portion seems fair. We also tried to ponko fries that have the perfect fried crispyness that makes it hard to stop eating. I'm sure they aren't very healthy but that's not why anyone would choose this option. Our family of three was able to split this comfortably. The only thing that was less than stellar was the sticky rice, which was fine but nothing special. The cracked pepper and seasonings on the green beans are a bit spicy but nice and mix well with the fried onions. We liked the ponko pickles that come with the meals and the side salad is also good and it's worth mentioning that the dressing (sweet sesame) is made in house. I've only been to Ponko Chicken 3 times, but I really like them, especially their Ponko fries. They're crispy and airy, which gives them a lightness to them. It's different than your regular fries which can be heavy. The Ponko chicken tenders are good too, but the other two times I've gone I tried to be good so I've gotten their salad with the island grilled cutlets. I was surprised that I actually liked it. It's suppose to be a twist on jerk and is said to have spice to it. I'm half Jamaican so I'm my opinion it's really actually not too spicy. The spicy Ponko chicken has more spice to it than the island grilled. I really enjoy the salad because it has crunchy wontons on it and I love the sweet sesame dressing! I literally drank it the other day when I got it lol. I really enjoyed their spicy Ponko chicken as well, as I had a friend let me try theirs and it was really good. There service is fast and it's nice and clean inside. On nice days, it's relaxing to sit outside on their patio. After hearing about the reviews for this place I really wanted to like it but unfortunately the food fell short. Because of the pandemic they only have the front open for takeout. I came with my boyfriend and we ordered 2 spicy ponko plates with fries, potato salad, and green beans. The people there were really nice, but a little disorganized. They forgot to mention they were out of rice to a couple of customers in front of us and then they also forgot one order of our fries. They were super friendly about giving us the fries but we could tell that the two chefs working were blazed out of their minds. It was super funny watching them work though because at one point the manager asked for fries and they threw over a plate of chicken, so i actually think they earned some points back for this review for providing comedy to us while cooking. Unfortunately the food was just mediocre. The chicken wasn't really spicy at all and it tasted more like a boneless chicken wing rather than tenders. The fries and green beans looked like they would have been seasoned well, but the fries just tasted like generic salty fast food fries and the green beans were super soggy and like mush. The one redeeming item was the potato salad, which was amazing! I don't think I'll be back for takeout anytime soon, but I might try again for dine in when they open. read more

I love Ponko and order from here often. I normally get the island chicken with fries and/or rice or just the island chicken itself and two of their buttermilk ranches. Everything. Is. So. Gooood! The online ordering system can be a little wanky and it can take the order a bit to process. In fact, one of the last times I ordered, I didn't think they were open because the order wasn't going through. It took about 15 minutes or so. Another time, I went to pick up my food at the designated time but it wasn't ready so I had to wait 10-15 minutes. I suppose the manager on duty noticed me waiting and gave me a free dessert. I LOVE PONKO chicken! Everyone has been on the search for the better chicken sandwich, Popeyes or Chick-Fil-A but let me tell you, PONKO chicken is BY FAR the best chicken sandwich. The chicken is crusted in something similar to panko breadcrumbs and the chicken is huge and so tasty and fresh! You can get it with BBQ, spicy or OG sauce. The OG sauce is a little sweet and a little salty so that one is my fave. When you go you should also get the fries and the hot dog. The hot dog is FRIED! Yes I said fried! Also, I crave the salad with sweet sesame dressing. I know it is so weird to crave a salad but the dressing is so absolutely delicious and with the wontons on the salad it is so mouth watering perfect! One Saturday afternoon, not exactly familiar with the area, we decided to let Yelp decides on our fate, or really lunch destination. Opened the app, and the only 4 stars and above lunch option is Ponko Chicken. It was a pleasant surprise when we located Ponko Chicken. It looked nice from the outside. Upon entry, the staffs greeted us and they seemed so cheerful. Totally not expecting it. FOOD 4/5 I had the chicken tenders with Ponko fries. Perhaps I did not read properly, I thought I ordered fried chicken tenders. They were fried but when I looked at them, I was not sure if they were oily due to that shine on the coating. When I took my first bite, then I realized the chicken tenders were not oily but had some sauce coating, Ponko sauce? They tasted like Japanese ponzu sauce. I never that into fried chicken coated with ponzu sauce or any sauce. To be fair, the chicken tenders were really tender and flavorful inside. I wanted to give the food a 3.5, but decided it could be my preference that I didn't really exactly love the tenders. AMBIENCE 4/5 I could not tell if this is a fast food or a restaurant. It is bright like a fast food, has a bar and a tv. The staff brought us our food, there is no place for us to clear the tray. Still the ambience is ok, casual and the place looked clean and new. SERVICE 5/5 The staffs were all friendly and nice. Half way eating, one staff actually walked around with an iced water jug and refilled my half full water cup. I let out a soft "wow". I never expect that. It was very pleasant. I mean patrons can easily refill water at the soda fountain. That was an immediate perfect service there! I would rate the day I found out PONKO was returning after a decade as one of the best days of my life. It's the best thing that's happened to Atlanta since Usher! Okay, definitely exaggerating... All my friends from high school FLIPPED out after the announcement. Some even started a countdown to their opening. PONKO was a big deal back in the early 2000s. I don't think I knew a single person who did not like it. Brings back so many memories. You can only imagine how devastated we were when they closed. Even though this location is farther than the original one from me, it's worth the drive. The chicken looks and tastes just like it did 10 years ago... AHHMAZING! Not too heavy on the breading and excellent flavor. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are adequate. I have to hold back on devouring the food in minutes so I can savor every bite. The prices are reasonable, too. The restaurant is bigger, brighter, and better than the original restaurant in Stone Mountain. They recently added a bar. There's plenty of indoor as well as outdoor seating. Service is wonderful. The staff is friendly and efficient. I am already planning my next visit! read more

Ponko Chicken is a great fried chicken place if you're looking for somewhere that is a fusion between American and Asian. You can order their signature chicken as original, spicy, or BBQ. I've tried all 3 and have been pleased with all. The spicy has a slight hint of sweetness to it as well which I didn't particularly like, but I still enjoyed the flavor more than the other two. The chicken tenders are also cooked perfectly crispy. You can order the plate which comes with chicken tenders and two sides. I think the base price is $10, and some of the sides charge you an additional fee, including fries and sweet potato fries, which I think is slightly excessive. I highly recommend ordering rice for one side because it goes well with the chicken tenders. On select days you can also order 3 for $9 tacos, which I thought were amazing. The tacos as well can be original, spicy, or BBQ. They also have spiked tea, lemonade, and margarita! My only critique here is the price. I think the food is great, and service is quick and amazing. However, it's hard to justify spending over $10 for chicken tenders and fries. I definitely do think it's worth trying, just expect to spend money on some basic food though! read more

You can find PONKO Chicken at the first intersection East of I85 at the corner of Chamblee Tucker Rd and Presidential Pky. There's plenty of parking out front with extras to each side - building is at the corner. This is a Fast Casual restaurant with a bar, featuring mostly local craft beer or common favorites. I pulled in on a whim heading home from the Toylanta Vintage Toy Show at the Marriott Century Plaza about 1:30 PM on a Saturday - there were 5 or so tables and a couple of people at the bar and seated outside. PONKO features Asian crispy chicken tenders and fresh sides - I settled on the spicy-sweet sauce with a side salad and brown rice. The food arrived at the table in about 15 minutes quite hot or cold if appropriate. I thought the food good if slightly pricy - too early for beer but I could see this as a great, convenient option to hit before a movie or other event. Service amounts to food delivery at your table. - those behind the counter were quite knowledgeable and make recommendations if asked. I dug the Asian flavors, from the ginger-sesame dressing to the black sesame seeds on the rice - a touch of Asian without any pretension. Ponko Chicken is a fast-casual fried chicken restaurant that reopened on Chamblee Tucker Road near I-85 in October 2017. This restaurant previously existed in Stone Mountain roughly 10 years ago and has reemerged. It has the look and feel of a chain, but at the time of writing this review, this is the restaurant's only location. You can think of it like Zaxby's with a Japanese twist. The business name is presumably derived from the panko breadcrumbs used to coat the chicken. The chicken is quite delicious. A wings joint (Gemi Wings) used to exist in this spot, but Ponko has come in and spruced the place up, adding plenty of fenced-in patio seating, with umbrellas and heat lamps, as well as a dining room (during our visit, the dining room was still under construction). From the outside in, the renovations look nice. The brand has a fun and playful theme. The interior is simple, clean, bright, and modern. The kitchen is semi-open. Orders are placed upfront. Water, condiments, disposable cutlery, napkins, etc. are self-serve. They also have a USB hub which can charge multiple phones/devices. The menu is straightforward with $10 plates (includes 2 sides), salads, and sandwiches (includes 1 side) and $7 sandwiches (no side), rice boxes, and salad boxes. A difference between the plates and boxes is the chicken tenders are served whole on the plates as opposed to chopped for the boxes. You can also order the tenders by themselves in 2, 4, 12, and 20-piece sets. The tenders work out to $1.50 a piece no matter how many you buy. All of Ponko's chicken is boneless and they come in 3 flavors: original, spicy, and BBQ. Along with fried chicken tenders, Ponko serves veggie patties, tofu, and grilled chicken cutlets. The sides are fairly basic and include white and brown rice, Ponko and "sweet" fries, coleslaw, Hawaiian-style potato salad, a garden salad, and seasonal specials. The seasonal side during our visit was "South Central" fries. These were the house Ponko fries, which are seasoned with roasted seaweed and toasted sesame seeds, with a seasoning made of Flamin' Hot Cheetos added. For dessert, they offer cookies, "CakeCups" (individually portioned layer cakes inside clear plastic cups with snap-shut lids), and mochi (Japanese rice cake) ice cream. Beverage-wise, in addition to the usual fountain drinks, they've got coffee, tea, green tea lemonade, beer, and wine. I tried all 3 sauce flavors. The original was excellent, the spicy was very good, and the BBQ was average. One thing I like about Ponko's chicken tenders is they seem to have the perfect balance of meat and breading. The tenders aren't so thick that you're overwhelmed with just meat. Instead, you get lots of crispy, nicely seasoned breading in every bite and each tender stays appetizing and moist throughout. The original and spicy tenders are actually some of the best-tasting tenders I've had. The original flavor has an addictive, sweet, and honey-like taste to it. The spicy flavor has a noticeable kick, but nothing extreme; enough to have you coming back for more. The BBQ flavor, expectedly smoky and vinegary, is par for the course. To me, it tastes like most other run-of-the-mill BBQ sauces out there. If you order the sandwich, the chicken is placed inside a standard, soft, white, hamburger bun with slaw. Whether you order a plate or a sandwich, your meal comes with small sides of Asian-style pickles (which I believe are prepared with sweet seasoned rice vinegar) and buttermilk ranch dressing. While the chicken is yummy, the sides leave something to be desired. I tried the Ponko fries, South Central fries, slaw, and potato salad. The fries were good, but they could have been better. They were hot and fresh, but were seasoned inconsistently between plates. I really enjoyed the seasoning mix, but it had a hard time sticking to the fries. What often resulted were relatively plain-tasting fries with a pile of seasoning leftover at the bottom of the tray. As for the South Central fries specifically, I couldn't taste any of the Flamin' Hot Cheetos powder. The slaw is an Asian-style slaw made with coarsely shredded green and red cabbage and carrots. The potato salad is a mayonnaise-based, Hawaiian-style potato salad. While OK, both were mostly unmemorable/unremarkable. Service was great. The staff was nice and our orders came out pretty quick. There were 4 of us and one of the employees tried to sell us on the 4-person group meal for $40. As it was explained to us, the group meal is simply 4 plates for $40. I'm not sure how that's different from ordering 4 plates, already priced at $10 each, separately. Like ordering the 2, 4, 12, and 20-piece sets of tenders, there is no discount for ordering more food. Ponko shares a building with a chiropractic office. This place is legit. The food is the bomb dot com. Their menu has a variety to choose from. I ordered plate with two sides- tenders (half bbq flavor and half spicy flavor) with coleslaw and fries. I waited about 15 minutes for food. It was super busy during lunch hour. The food was worth the wait. The tenders are juicy and moist and flavorful. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. Even the coleslaw was well made and has Asian influence. Excellent food. The place is apparently new. Interior is very clean and bright. There are limited seatings about 8-10 bar stools so you might need to snug with your neighbors and enjoy your food. Outside has some tables and chairs. Overall great experience. First time trying Ponko & I'm so glad I did. I had the 3 piece tenders (original) with ponko fries & slaw, I also got to taste the chicken sandwich which had pickles and slaw. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. The inside was nicely decorated, they have a bar area and a small outdoor patio. I asked for ponko sauce which tasted absolutely amazing on EVERYTHING. No ketchup needed for fries just add some amazing ponko sauce! The chicken is honestly now high on my list, I have no complaints about the flavor or texture.. it was bomb! Even though I ordered original tenders they were delicious especially with the sauce. I'm not a huge fan of the slaw as a side for me but on the sandwich it goes really well. The sweet pickles were a great addition to both the bowl and the sandwich. Excited to try again. read more

I was at work, when we had an assignment literally next door to Ponko. It was about time for my lunch break, so I checked Yelp to see what hidden gems were around, and needless to say I didn't have to look far. Ponko chicken is an interesting spin on traditional American meal. Think oven-fried Chick-Fil-A with an Asian spin... yea I know hard to picture but probably good, right? Exactly what this place is. I had the 3 piece tender with 1 bbq, and 2 original tenders (& they let me split flavors for no additional charge ) The tenders were delicious, and moving forward I know to get 5 for sure, because although they're not tiny, they're definitely on the small side. I opted for the fries and string beans this go around. The fries had an interesting seasoning and texture similar to captain d's. They were decent, but they tasted a little soggy in my opinion. Not to mention they piled the chicken tenders in the same box, so it accumulated quite a bit of steam. I enjoyed the string beans some what. They had an interesting sauce on top with fried onions on top. I think it'd be a better dish if they toss the string beans in teriyaki or 'Ponko' sauce vs. the sauce they currently use for this side, but that's just me. Overall 4/5, I think maybe I'd have enjoyed my meal a little better had the dine in area been open, but hey. I'm definitely excited to come back and try the sandwich, brown and white rice, and the salad. I'll definitely be a repeat customer. Nice find in the Gwinnett area. Ps. Ponko menu is pretty simple and revolves around their chicken tenders/fingers/whatever the term is these days. You can orders as original (dry), spicy (wet), or bbq (wet). You can get it by itself, in a salad, over rice, and a few other combos. It makes up the core of the meal. I will say what ever option you choose, you're in for a treat. The chicken is very tender and not dry at all, which is what you sometimes have to worry about when dealing with white meat chicken. The chicken really pairs well with their ponko punch or green tea lemonade (one free refill btw!). Overall, Ponko is simple and not overly complicated. Very good comfort food for an affordable prices that gives you quality and flavor in return. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I've been meaning to give this pace a try and my opportunity came today. Arrived around 3 p.m. and there was ample parking. You walk in, order, and the food is brought to your table. I ordered the tenders (original and spicy) with white rice and cole slaw. I also order the ponko punch which tasted like pineapple and pear juice. It was pretty refreshing. The tenders were really good. The spicy ones had a nice kick to them. The sides were a let down. The rice was blah and the slaw overly dressed. Really yummy place!! Myself and a few co-workers stopped by for lunch. It's really close to CDC Chamblee Campus, University Park, and Mercer Campus. The parking lot is a little tight but the restaurant is not that big. Carpool though if you can. Inside is super inviting and clean. They even have a free alkaline water station for customers. I ordered the breaded ponko chicken strips, spicy, with fries and coleslaw. Those ponko fries were amazing! I loved the sauce on the strips and not to mention how TENDER those chicken tenders were. Omg, it was a really delicious lunch. We sat outside and the staff was nice enough to bring our food out to us! I enjoyed my time here and will be back for sure. The food is awesome and the customer service is so good. The food is crispy and juicy, the chicken is crispy and has a nice texture when you bite down. They have a nice selection of sieves for the chicken and the fries are the perfect amount of crispy and potatoness. The rice is nice and good but sometimes it can be under cooked and that's really my only problem.The workers check in on you from time to time and they are so nice. I always go with my friends becuase the environment is so chill and the vibes are laid back. I came here two days in row because the chicken is just. that. good. I ordered the chicken strip combo plate for about $11. I did half and half, original and spicy (which wasn't spicy at all but both had GREAT flavor). I also ordered the ponko fries and was in love. On one of the occasions I went, I also ordered the green tea mochi, really excited they have this as well! The coleslaw was okay, I'm a sucker for some great coleslaw so I was a little disappointed, but everything else was on point. This chicken really is delicious. You will be hooked. I'm warning you now. The only downfall is that there isn't much indoor seating, so I normally order to go. They have a small selection of Japanese snacks, and the food doesn't take too long to make. The menu here is dead simple. You're coming here for crispy juicy tasty chicken tenders. Everything else is just a side to the chicken. The "Eats meets West" is held true here from the fried chicken standpoint. After that it's the sides and seasonings that are the "Eatsern" flair. Here is what we ordered: Salad with Ponko Chicken Ponko Spicy Sauce and Sweet Sesame Dressing on the side: basically their Ponko (Panko) chicken tenders cut up and placed on top of a salad. The spicy Ponko sauce was just the right amount of heat. Probably a medium buffalo style sauce. Chicken had a nice crunchy outside and juicy/tender inside. Panko does that, retains crunch. Plate with Ponko Chicken, Ponko Sauce, Ponko Fries, and Potato Salad: Ponko Sauce is basically a mirin and shoyu (soy sauce) base. Definitely a Japanese flavor staple. Close to teriyaki sauce. Ponko Fries were pretty good. Seems to be fried with some Panko as well and seasoned with a blend of sesame, roasted seaweed, etc. Really good. Potato salad tastes very much 'classic Japanese' taste. Last was a Kids menu item which you can get grilled or 'Ponko' chicken tenders (choice of sauce as well). Rice (Japanese style sticky rice), Fries, or something else can't remember. Comes with a juice box or other drink and baby carrots with ranch. Lastly, there is currently only limited bench type seating inside with more tables outside. They do appear in the process of expanding for more indoor dining. They also serve beer here too. If I'm ever in the mood for some fried chicken tenders again, I could see myself stopping by to pick some up. read more

This is a usual in our food delivery options for weekends with friends. I'm a fan of fried chicken in general and Ponko is a nice twist on the category. Fried food is usually a tough order but the fries and chicken all heat up easily in the oven for a quick crisp. I'm a fan of the 5 piece tender with sides. The fries have a nice crisp to them (I prefer them over the sweet potato fries). The ponko rice is a nice add for a side as well, has a bit of sweetness on the sauce they have on it. Two other small nice touches would be their pickles are light and thin. And the big win is the ranch! It's a little watery than usual but has a great flavor and add to the chicken. So eventually, I placed an order for pickup, as opposed of eating in. The Food: I ordered the PONKO Chicken Tenders (5pc for $10). You can get these original, spicy, or bbq. I got original this time. This comes with two sides, so I got PONKO fries and coleslaw. Let me tell you.....these were really good. The chicken was slightly sweet with a nice crisp. The fries were really good, I highly recommend. The Cole slaw was pretty good. If I was to go back, I'd get a salad, since my fiancée said she enjoyed hers. Overall, I enjoyed the food a lot. I'll probably come back for a lunch break. The only thing I didn't like was that they forgot to put PONKO sauce in the bag, after she asked me. Had to deduct for that one. read more
