Our first visit to this Baton Rouge classic. When we first entered it was kind a like stepping back to the 60s. The environment and decor we're great. There was a guy playing music in the back of the dining room, who was spot on. His music set the mood. Our waitress was telling us that the president of the US had just paid a visit a month before. We came because we wanted some Po Boys but we drove into town too early for the lunch menu to kick in so we settled for some shrimp omelettes. My family and I are in town for a wedding and this little spot is across the street from our hotel. We were hungry and decided to stop in for a bite to eat and I am so glad we found this little place!!! Katie was our waitress and let me tell you, she was the sweetest and really gave us that southern hospitality. I was very indecisive because everything sounded delicious and she recommended I try the hot roast beef poor boy. I took her word and ordered that with a cup of red beans and rice and now I feel like I've lived life. Where have I been for so long? We definitely don't have these good eats in San Diego!! Left full and already wanting to come back to try more on the menu. My husband ordered a shrimp poor boy and a cup of gumbo....his was excellent as well. Poor Boy Lloyd's is my favorite downtown lunch spot. I'm from Baton Rouge, went to LSU, and Poor Boy Lloyd's remains as one of the places I have to visit when I return (having since moved out if state). The poboys are perfect. Some reviews said that they weren't fancy, but they're not supposed to be. Right kind of bread, good fried seafood, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise. That's it. That's a perfect poboy, and Poor Boy Lloyd's has got like no other downtown BR place does. The gumbo is great, and treat yourself to a root beer float, too. This is not a place for salad because that's a waste of plate space that could be occupied by fried pickles, which are delicious. The atmosphere is a perfect Louisiana compliment to the food. The owner has worked the counter from open to close every day since the 1980s (which I learned today), and will send you off with a smile and a mint after paying your ticket. This place feels like home, with the best casual lunch you can find in BR. Get it to-go if you like and enjoy lunch by the river-- a perfect Louisiana day! read more

The shrimp were small with no real seasoning or taste to them, I had to add hot sauce and ketchup to give a taste with a kick. Decided to come by when my boyfriend and I took our dog downtown on a pretty Saturday! We chose this place not only because of the po-boys, but also because of the outdoor tables since we had the pup with us. Super friendly servers even though it was jam-packed and busy. They noticed through the window that we had our dog with us, and an older male server went to the back and got us an empty oyster bucket and filled it with water for our dog without us even asking, which was awesome. Shrimp poboy, italian poboy, and onion rings came out in about 20 minutes which isn't bad for rush hour, and everything was delicious.
