Came here for a Poboy while I was in Louisiana - Something I was told I obviously had to try. So I yelped places in Baton Rouge where I was staying for the Louisiana Marathon. This place got good reviews. The décor felt a bit dated and the little candy shop was odd placed. Maybe I am just not used to something like this - but I had not seen it before. My mom and I came here for dinner one night and we both enjoyed our food. I also had red beans and rice and it was really good. The service was super friendly and the entertainment was great. Ever had the moment when you suddenly craved for a classic NOLA-style poboy but don't want to drive all the way there (or are already on your way departing there)? Aside from the retro looking diner exterior, the first thing that I remembered about this restaurant was when the smiling blond cashier poked her head out from the entrance panel and greeted, "Hi there!" I was there to only check the menu out of curiosity, but perhaps that friendly greeting convinced me to return during lunchtime on the same day. Oh, and the menu too. The average poboy price of $7 is pretty tempting. The menu had many poboys like rabbit poboy but I had my eyes on the shrimp poboy already. The shrimp poboy did not disappoint! I was happy with the amount of fried corn-breaded shrimp in the sandwich, and the mayo certainly helps. It's a simple poboy, and it's done right! Like I said, if you are suddenly carving a NOLA-style poboy, look no further! Whewww, talk about some tasty Po' Boys. I stopped by by total chance and I left wanting to take a few sandwiches home. The place is cozy but the service makes you feel like you're back at home and having a home cooked meal. I tried the shrimp Po' boy with potato salad and it was blast full of flavor. Stopped in here for a Saturday lunch while waiting for my daughter's dance comp at the river center. We walked in and were told to sit wherever we like. While sitting I saw something that said "Serving Po-boys since 1969". Well my 1st thoughts were that's the last time you redecorated or turned the radio station too. The place looked like my grandmas house from when I was a kid. (She has since redecorated) We started off with the fried pickles and they were greaseless and quite tasty. I then ordered what they called a "Rich boy". It was described as 1/2 roast beef and 1/2 ham. I thought this was Baton Rouge's idea of a Ferdi, my favorite po-boy. Nope it's a small roast beef poboy and a small ham po boy. The ham po boy was hot and pretty good. The roast beef was cold and had no gravy. There are 2 different version of their roast beef, cold like I got and hot w/gravy that I didn't. I prefer the later. MY fault in a way. I should have asked. At the end of your meal, the waitress gives you a check and you bring it to a counter where you can buy candy, LSU hats, cigarettes, cigars and other odds and ends. The friendly elderly fella who the waitress says is the owner then rings you up. Very old school. I usually hate this outdated practice but the guy was quite friendly so it's not too bad. Overall decent po-boys when I'm at my daughter' revue next year, I may stop in. read more

Hole on the corner place. Delicious po' boy sandwiches! I had the shrimp and my brother had the fish, cod I believe was what it was. We were both beyond satisfied! Wasn't expensive, about 8 bucks for the sandwich and it came with a mini side appetizer. Flavors of my meal reflected the southern hospitality as well as the restaurant atmosphere. Many regulars order to go so you know it's a busy location when that happens to avoid dining lines. Would highly recommend anyone searching for a simple and more than satisfying lunch. read more

The Good: fast and good seafood! Lots of variety. Fried oysters are great! The Bad: the gumbo I had was bland. Trips: Ask for tarter sauce and cocktail sauce when you place your order. If they are busy it's going to be tough to get it later. Overall: Go; it's worth it! read more

Found this restaurant on Yelp, due to its decent reviews and us being hungry on our drive to NOLA. I wanted some good Cajun food in Baton Rouge, and we got it! I got the shrimp po'boy, and it was great! The batter was just right and seasoning tasted great. Glad I passed on the fries, as the po'boy itself was very filling! My hubby loved his fried seafood platter...said it was some of the spiciest seasoning he's had on fried seafood. It's just a homestyle restaurant, with down-to-earth Cajun employees. Great food! Stood in line for over 30 minutes. Not much acknowledgment for the customers and just a lot of walking by. Saw people waiting at their tables for long periods of time. Most of the orders were not complete when listening to people at the tables. You could hear the workers tell the people in the back that people are waiting at the tables for their food. Many of the people that were in line were upset that it took so long. People also coming up to the front asking for drink refills. Employees were not organized and looked like they were running in circles. Once seated took another 10 minutes just to get drinks. Waiting another hour at our table for food. They have great seafood. The rest of the stuff is pretty good too but the poboys are great (hey they live up to their name). The wait staff has been hit or miss, when I have gone for lunch it has been great, when we had a big group go for dinner it was horrible and took almost an hour for our food. Overall the restaurant is small though so probably not the best choice for a big group. read more

I'm sure this place is wonderful. The staff was kind (for the short time we were there!) We stopped for lunch on the way to Texas. Pictures looked good, and the menu looked promising. This place is downtown. There is NO free parking anywhere near. We didn't want to add the parking surcharge of $5-7 to our lunch cost, so we kept driving. We chose to have lunch at Poor Boy Lloyd's based on two factors: 1) Its four-star Yelp rating 2) It was open, which is pretty rare in downtown Baton Rouge on Saturday afternoon The service was friendly, if a little slow, and the gentleman at the register was a delight. Four full stars. The food, on the other hand, left much to be desired; I had a roast beef po boy because it was "best in house" on the menu. I've eaten here many times over the years and ordinarily have a good (4 star) experience. It's Friday evening and we're going to see a great James McMurtry show at the Manship. Before we start we've got to listen to one waitress curse while telling another she's not talking to her tonight and stand outside to yell at another employee to get out the bathroom and said she was in there too long. On to our meal. We ordered onion rings which were cold. Bummer. I ordered an oyster po-boy and my wife had a soft shell crab po-boy. Oysters were small, overcooked and greasy. Crabs were tiny as in the main body was about 2 inches (is this legal DFW?). I checked and the bodies weren't cleaned as in the lungs still intact big no no. So we pick around for some bread, tiny legs off tiny crabs, the occasional edible oyster and scrounged enough for an appetizer. We're by not people to bitch and usually just let it slide. However The waitress asked how was everything looking at two pretty full plates. So I says,"well, the onion rings were mostly cold. " oh, was everything else okay I think fearing more comment. I let her know the crabs weren't cleaned and very small. She feighned upset and I told her don't worry we'll be back. Okay here's where it gets good ! Evidently she runs and tells some guy at checkout we had complaints. Right out of his mouth he says you said we had cold oysters in an obnoxious voice. That lit my fire. I looked him in the eye and told him I did not tell him a damn thing. He wanted an argument and after being charged handsomely I was ready to give it to him. He said he'd been using the same supplier for years and I asked him if they cleaned his crabs for him (none do that I'm aware) and this guy acts like he never heard of cleaning the crab. You remove the lungs and black stomach area. Yellow fat is okay to stay. I then told I come to his place pretty regular and plan on returning and I had not asked him for a damn thing. The waitress had already removed the onion rings and I'd left it at that. After my encounter with this senile old I'll mannered couyon I probably won't return. There are always many restaurants that will serve good food and be grateful for it. This always shows in my tip as it did with PB Lloyd's. Once bitten, twice shy! read more

First time really having a chance to explore Baton Rouge and this was my first stop. The place was quite busy since it was lunchtime. Got the po boy special (don't remember the name of it exactly, but it's the one with ham, roast beef, turkey, probably something else too. It's been a while!) and fries. While the sandwich was great and I'd come back for that, the fries were just ok. I'd likely try the red beans and rice if I'm back in town again. If it's a weekday, don't even bother driving down here, just walk or take a bus/Uber. read more

This establishment has been here since 69 and there's a damn good reason for it. My fiancé and I were driving from New Orleans to west Monroe and decided to stop in Baton Rouge for dinner. As soon as we walked in to PBL we were greeted my the owner, Larry. He's super friendly and mans the register. It's definitely a hole in the type of place, but it sure is a tasty one! There was live music (a man with a karaoke machine) but he made it fun. It definitely had a down south feel to it, but seeing as I'm a southern girl, I LOVED it. I ordered a crawfish po boy and it exceeded my expectations. The crawfish was fried in a tasty creole seasoning and the bread was crispy and toasted to perfection. I got a side of red beans and rice. Delicious. I cleaned my plate. Jesse got the crawfish étouffée and devoured it. It was spiced just right. Cassie was our waitress and she was the epitome of southern hospitality. We were just looking for something casual and we found it. We will definitely be back our next visit to Baton Rouge. read more

Best place to eat at downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana by far!! We had a very large team of players stop in late Saturday night right before closing. The food was delicious, and there was nothing we didnt enjoy. For such a large group they accommodated us nicely. You could tell they had, had a very long busy day. This one waitress was by far amazing. She wasn't our original server, but she made sure we were taken care of for anything we needed. We hated to see her slip and fall but she got right back up and went back to work. They were working understaffed by far but she did excellent in waiting on her tables and ours and helping prepare the dinners in the kitchen, her cheeks were so rosy red. That's a very good loyal employee. The guy that stayed in the closet changing the music had good taste in everything that was playing. Very friendly establishment with an epic atmosphere. read more
