Well we ordered off the menu on their website and when we got there the total was higher than advertised. When I asked about it the old man was rude saying they can change their prices anytime they want. I agree they can but if they do they should update their website. So I already wasn't happy but I had walked 8 blocks to get it so I just paid and left. I regret that. The food definitely was not worth what I paid. I would have been disappointed even if it was free. The poboy bread was so tough. Beef jerky is more tender than that bread was. My husband had the spaghetti and said one meatball tasted ok the other was bad. He has eaten there before and said the food has gone downhill. I wont be back. If you decide to go don't say I didn't warn you. If you order takeout ask for the cost at the time you place the order so you not surprised when you get there. Was hungry but did not know what to get! So I decided to park downtown and walk around to see what smells the best. This place definitely caught my attention! When I walked in, I was immediately greeted at the counter and was told to pick a table to sit. My waitress was very attentive & super nice even though they were a little on the busy side. They have the best ice. I got a shrimp poboy add pickles & an order of fries & they were both perfect for a late lunch! I got a slice of lemon ice box pie to go as well. They have great po-boys, as their name would suggest. They also always have a couple of tasty home-style plate lunches, with a choice of sides. You can also explore the menu, where there are hidden jems, like the open-faced roast beef sandwich, drowned in great gravy, and topped with fries. There are also tasty seafood salads, for the diet conscious. On a weekend evening, one can have a beer and listen to local musicians. It's a good choice for dinner on any evening, I like to stop in after attending other downtown events. There's even a couple of tables out front where one can watch the sun set on the River while dining, and that is an experience worth having! read more

Owner and son on site very friendly and willing to come behind the counter and talk college football, even with a UGA fan. Red beans and rice are a must. Bo Boys are served on the best bread. I called in an order for lunch. Shrimp Po Boy, fries, bread pudding $5, and large tea. I asked him for the total. He said $23 even. When I got to curbside, a lady said card didn't take and when she brought my ticket it was $2 more, and I asked why? She said the other person had it wrong. The Po boy was a good sandwich I'll give them that. But fries were so-so and bread pudding tasted 3-4 days old. Very rubbery. I called back and told them they needed to work on their customer service, as I had no napkins, no catsup for fries, and no fork to eat my bread pudding. Poor Boy Lloyd's has a great location, the restaurant has tons of ambiance and the live music is certainly fitting. The service was excellent. The problem was the food; it was remarkably unremarkable. I had the spaghetti and meatballs, which admittedly wasn't the most culinary thing on the menu ... but I was in the mood for a good pasta. The noodles were most definitely *not* homemade, and the sauce almost certainly came from a jar. The meatball was OK, but it lacked any sort of spicing or seasoning. She had the seafood gumbo. It had all the requisite ingredients and may or may not have been made on site ... but again, it lacked any sort of seasoning. There's no reason that this restaurant couldn't be a five star home run, and I may give it another shot just in case this was an off night in the kitchen. read more

I ate in - have been here a few times before and usually on Fri night they have live music. Not now because if the virus but the music mix they were playing had me tapping my toes. Got the draft Amber Boch and it came in a thick frosted glass with the ice melting off. Cold and delicious. Had a roast beef po-boy and when I was finished there was enough roast beef left on the plate for another meal. The fries were fresh and hot and apple crisp for dessert hit the spot. It was a fabulous meal and I enjoyed the banter with the proprietor and talking a little philosophy and LSU football. Don't come expecting fancy dress! I ate lunch here today. The food was great, the service was excellent and the people who work there could not have been more friendly.

Used to have way more meter parking before all the hotels (as I worked in a nearby IT shop). Recently visited the place and was glad to see Mr Fred still slamming the mints down. Good shrimp salad ( their fried are way good) and I often get a roast beet on toast. Way smaller than a Poboy but still good. Great place still read more

Downtown spot that's pretty good. Parking can be a pain but depending on when you go, you can usually find a spot close. The place is pretty standard Louisiana. They have specials available daily and have great poboy options. We stopped in for lunch and grabbed some rabbit sausage and gator sausage poboys. We took them to go. The poboys aren't cheap but they are big. They do not come with a side so if you want fries then be prepared to pay extra. The owner is super nice and tends to sit at the register. 3/30/2023 Today, 03.30.23 our company decided to take our staff to eat at Lloyd's. Once there we checked out the decor and started to look at the menu. During this time because of the size of our groups we placed a few tables together to better enjoy the time there. After, we started to receive our food in a slow manner a lady came in with a Lloyd's shirt yellow in color and started to be little some of our team members by saying "why did you move my bag from the table". Our team was perplexed by this and just looked back at the lady in disbelief and thought this was a joke. Furthermore, the lady stated, "did you take my money bag" and started pointing her finger in a aggressive manner and one of our members stated what are you talking about. She continues to badger our table to a point that we just decided to leave. She continues saying you never sit here again you understand! OMG really the place was not even close to having a third of the tables full. In addition, the rest of the staff was nice however, this lady was totally out of line in which we will never eat here again nor will recommend for anyone else unless you like to be talked down to for sitting a table that wasn't label don't sit here. Last, who in the right mind leaves a bag with money sitting in a chair in the middle of the restaurant wait I know, someone who doesn't want customers back and talks to them like they are a child. Tried the shrimp po boy. The bread was too hard and small for me. The shrimp were small and the breading was falling off on top of the shrimp falling off from the super small bread size. Very hard to eat it like that. Disappointed in this place since they boast authenticity and yes I'm a native to Baton Rouge. The fries were ok. ABSOLUTELY **THE BEST** "Chicken 'n Dumplings" (Thursday only !) in town. Exactly as it should made, an unforgetable downtown BR lunch for over 50 years, when it was served at The Brunswick. I ate there this weekend. I've often lamented the fact that there is not a good New Orleans style Roast Beef PoBoy in Baton Rouge. Dempsey's is Pretty Close. Anyway, I was told the Poor Boy Lloyd's was where I needed to go. I went and ordered the Hot Roast Beef PoBoy. It was standard BR - sliced roast beef on a po boy bun with an au jus gravy. I was, pretty much a French Dip. I was disappointed but it was not the restaurant's fault. I had been led to believe that it would be a New Orleans Debris Style PoBoy. NOT. I ate half,,boxed the other half for my wife (who, incidently, didn't like it either) and went to pay and leave. The Owner's son (I believe) checked me out. He asked me how I like the PoBoy and I told him - it's nice weather. He pressed me on whether I like the PoBoy or not and finally, I told him I did not. I explained that I was looking for a debris style poboy - like one from Short Stop Po Boy in New Orleans. Then it got bizarre. The guy started to argue with me that they served - "Louisiana Style" PoBoys. Then he said - I shouldn't make up my opinion based on the poboy I had just eaten. I should come back another time an order another one. Huh? I said I didn't like this one - why would I come back and order another one. He said...... Well..... maybe this one wasn't made correctly? He pointed to the Kitchen and said maybe they messed this one up. I couldn't believe my ears. I said - well - I have the other half in this box - let's look and see. I popped the box open, lifted the lid and said - is the beef supposed to be sliced like this? Yes, he replied. I closed the lid up, and said - well, it's a standard Baton Rouge Sliced RB PoBoy not a New Orleans Style. Then I got some blah, blah about a Louisiana Style PB - New Iberia Style. The insinuation was that the poboy I had just eaten was the real poboy and the New Orleans style was not authentic. I paid and left. You know, different restaurants make dishes different ways. I was willing to say - shame on me for believing what I'd been told about PB Lloyds. The Owners bizarre behavior cemented that I would review that this PB. If you can't stand to hear that a customer didn't like your food - Don't Ask! I'd have just walked away one and out and been done. Now, I'm sharing my experience with anyone who sees this. read more

I had one day free in Baton Rouge and went here on the advice of my Uber driver. I was not disappointed. The oyster poor boy was delicious, overflowing with lightly fried oysters in a breading that had a bit of a spicy kick to it. Fries were not much to write home about, but there was nothing wrong with them. A highlight is the character who runs the place -- guessing he is Lloyd or at least Lloyd-esque -- who's a terrible flirt and sees that you have a good experience. This is not a fancy place but a counter-service plastic-tablecloth kind of joint. Nothing wrong with that and based on my visit appears to be a favorite of local businesspeople. Best poboys I've ever eaten. The original in Baton Rouge, and you just can't find restaurants like this anymore. It has a cool 70's vibe and the food is just incredible. OOH MAMA, that damn poboy is freakin' outstanding! Tasty, tasty, tasty and just dripping with gravy and the bread, MAGNIFIQUE (a little French lingo there)! I always get the HRB poboy, I'm sure the other offerings are great but why branch out when you've found a slice of heaven!! I call it the "11 napkin-er" cause that's about how many I typically run through when shoving this delectable delicacy into my gaping maw! On its own, I'd probably give this place 4-stars, but with very personable staff, and a very "local-feeling" space, you have to give this place its props. So, you walk in via the door on the side (vs one on the corner), and place your order. I went with a crawfish Po' Boy and pop. "So, do I seat myself?" I asked. "Ye-yah. Faand yuh suyeet, or let it faand you." the server replied. I knew this was going to be some Southern goodness. This place was the type of local flavor I was in the mood for. I just checked into the Hilton at Capitol Center and then walked a block to this nice eatery. The clientele and staff were very nice, and you definitely get that down-home feeling when you walk in here. As for my po' boy---it was super tasty. At the checkout counter, they have all kinds of unique goodies (candy, post cards, etc.) to pick out while you're checking out.
