Inside, there is a small lunch counter with stools, several tables & booths, and small old time classic signs (Route 66, Pepsi Cola) on the walls throughout the dining room. At each table, salt & pepper are dispensed from Poor Boy's Root Beer bottles. The servers wear Poor Boy's shirts. The breakfast here is good (22 omelets, steak & eggs, biscuits & gravy, pancakes, belgian waffles, french toast, homefries & more) and the bottomless coffee ($1.50) is decent. My husband, Myself and my two boys were waiting in a door way with another party for about 15 minutes. The woman in charged looked at us and knew we were there and said nothing other than oh they are out of towners. Actually Karen I am from Derry I just am successful and wanted to try your restaurant. As people pushed by us to leave or to smoke I seen the woman behind the counter cough and not cover her damn mouth. As a man pushed past us to smoke he mumbled something to me and my husband was like should we go? I said yes. Red arrow diner is better but they weren't open so we went here. we usually go to the same places all the time & a friend suggested going to poor boys diner in Londonderry. When we first arrived we noticed it wasn't super packed however the waitress at the bar said "pick any open, clean table." so we started moving toward one and she exclaimed "except that one" so we moved to another. when we sat down we were given menus and asked about drinks which were promptly brought to us. the waitress asked if we knew what we were having after a few minutes but we were chatting and had not looked at the menu yet. when we said we needed another minute the waitress said "ok when you know put your menus at the end of the table and then you can continue to chat..." how offputting. As we're sitting there you can hear the wait staff talking about how "they've had enough, "and it's time to lock the doors"...really unprofessional as a lot of customers are in ear shot and sitting right there. Another few customers come in and the waitstaff again says "sit anywhere you want that's open." So people started walking toward the table that we were told not to sit at. And they were also told "except there" from across the room. Our waitress then states very disgustingly "everyone gravitates towards there." While we're finishing our meal the waitress damn near slaps the bill down and as she's walking away goes "whenever you're ready." Hit up Poor Boy's Diner for breakfast one Friday morning. The place was packed when I arrived. I managed to get a seat and looked over the expansive breakfast options. I ordered the biscuits with gravy with two eggs over easy and a cup of coffee. Food came out relatively fast and was hot. The quantity of sausage gravy needed to be more -- as two of my biscuits were atop one another - and one of the biscuits ended up with no sausage gravy adorning it. A travesty! Stopped in for breakfast. I had some time to kill after making a delivery nearby. The sign outside says "best breakfast " so had to stop in. Atmosphere is kinda rustic/truck stop/diner. Service was prompt, very extensive breakfast menu. I ordered the poorboy, bacon was done correctly, crisp not soggy , eggs done over medium as ordered. Definitely recommend stopping here for a meal. Food is fantastic, always hot always what you ordered. The service is a bit slow but that's because they are usually short staffed and packed. The setting is ok, but if you sit near the door it can be really annoying as that's where people stand waiting to be seated. Food definitely was " just okay" very overpriced. My husband and I had eaten here many times in the past and thought we'd add them to our takeout rotation. Big mistake. The first thing that struck me when walking in the door to pick up the order was the bad smell, the place is just so dirty. I had to wait for parts of my order so I had a chance to look around and see how grimy the place was; carpets and walls hadn't been cleaned in years. The waitress called me hon the entire time though I'm much older and she berated an elderly gentleman because he was trying to pay her when she wasn't his server. He was just trying to leave ( there was no one else there and she was standing next to the register). Not nice. Food, awful. My son had pasta and Alfredo. Was up this way with Martha so we stopped in. Had heard good things about Poor Boys, though for some reason Red Arrow gets more publicity it seems. PRO - LARGE PORTIONS. I had a huge "cup" of very good French Onion soup before the meal. Martha, very unexcitingly, ordered "hot dogs, Fred doesn't like them, so I never get them at home". Which came with a serving of two nicely grilled big dogs on toasted rolls & plenty of fries. I got the French Dip. On a nice soft roll with a cup of good dipping juice. Not a ton of meat inside but I was only able to eat half of it. The menu is huge, lots of good choices. BIG pour of wine, which is always appreciated. Good sized drink menu. CON - The "straight from the bag" same-as-everywhere-else, onion rings. Next time I'll try the tumbleweeds & hope for better. We went to this place last night for the first time based on its location and it's Yelp review. Interesting enough; there is another diner directly across the steet (Red Arrow Diner) which has lots of bright lights, is 24 hours a day and linked to a truckers rest stop. From an exterior we were reluctant to enter Poor Boy's as the lot was fairly quiet, the building was very dark. Based on the Yelp review we decided to give it a try. We were greeted at the door and told to take any table we wanted. We went to the back room as it was away from the front door. They serve Pepsi products and the menu like most diners was vast. We saw people eating breakfast food, Prime Rib, seafood, etc. I ordered the clam chowder as a soup or salad came with my meal (Chicken Parm). The soup was luke warm and VERY VERY salty. Not ideal in my opinion as it tastes like canned soup. My daughter and my girlfriend each got a side house salad and the iceberg lettuce looked a few days past it's prime. We were told the side salad didn't come with croutons.... seriously? Both of them did eat their salads and had balsamic vinaigrette dressing. My girlfriend had the chicken stir fry and replaced the noodles with rice. She thought it was delicious and was very happy with the dish. My daughter had a cheeseburger with cheddar and crispy French fries. She was fairly happy with the burger. The temp was a little under the request and she felt the meat was a bit overly salty. I had the chicken parm and was not very happy with the tomato sauce. It had a green pepper hint to it and it was very thick. Definitely tasted like canned sauce. I was not very pleased with it and the penne was over cooked under the chicken. The chicken Itself was very large and very good. It was just the sauce and the mushy pasta that were the disappointments. I would go back again but might try Red Arrow which has a lower review but was a lot busier when we pulled into their lot by mistake. read more

Had a nice breakfast here for our first visit. Lobster omelette for me and meat lovers for hubby. Both were well packed with filling. I didn't have a food scale on hand (switched to a smaller purse), but they promise a half pound of lobster in the omelette. Don't think they skimped at all. It is pricey at $15.99. And the lobster was fresh. Most omelettes are overloaded with cheese. This one was lacking. I don't have a problem with that. More room for the crustacean. :) Though the parking lot seemed full, there were open tables when we arrived a little before 9am on a Saturday morning. Service was exceptionally good (thank you Janice and team) and food came out at warp speed. Didn't clock it, but seemed no more than 10 minutes. Matthew A. is right, the place is chilly, even though we were around the corner from the front entrance, in a large side room. Most staff, except two brave souls, were wearing sweaters or fleece jackets. Didn't feel heat kick in until we were almost finished. Booth tables are unusually narrow, so if you are sitting directly across from someone you're often kicking one another when adjusting your feet. Have to keep them tucked. Guess it makes it possible to fit more seating in. There was a large group of men behind us. Decibel level in the room went down noticeably when their food arrived and we could finally hear ourselves speak. LOL Salt and pepper shakers could use a good cleaning. read more

My husband and I decided to try this place out after a walk on the nearby trails. For starters when you walk in, it says to wait to be seated. Then they proceed to tell you to sit anywhere you like. Unfortunately for us, we sat in a booth with a busted seat, and it was most uncomfortable. We also happened to sit near an air conditioner that was very dirty upon further glance. Eek. One person sat us and took our drink order and was very quick to bring them over. Then another was suppose to come over for our food order. Though it wasn't busy, seemed to take 10 or so minutes to see the next waitress. The table in the middle of the room had a few waitresses sitting at it talking about how slow it was and tips they had made while filling squeezable ketchup bottles that were making terrible fart noises... kinda funny for a short time but not during the entirety of breakfast. We finally placed the order and the food came out in good time, the Irish Benedict eggs were poached perfectly, but the hash tasted out of a can, I asked for hash browns but received home fries. They seemed mildly undercooked and lacked flavor. Regulars seemed to be treated very well and have overall better experiences. read more

Really good spot for breakfast. I enjoyed the Lobster Benedict with hash browns and an iced coffee. The coffee was pretty spot on, the hash browns tasted good and the Benedict was 5 stars. Generous amount of lobster meat that was flavorful combined with very good hollandaise sauce recipe. I would repeat and might even be tempted to come back for dinner before I leave town. Friendly staff and cozy booths this place is a winner. Overheard the staff chit chatting and appears the same owner has had it for 25 years and his passion for cooking plays a large role in this places success.
