Call Pop A Lock when I locked my keys in my car, and could not get in touch with my husband. Was told they could not give me a quote over the phone, that the "technician" had to look at the car. He arrived and looked the car over. Told me because of all the security devices involved that it would be $180 to open my car. It's a 2013 CRV!!! When I told him I only expected it to be between $60 and $75, he said he had his rates. I told him I would have to try and get in touch with my husband before I could ok that much money. Thank goodness he answered. I told the technician my husband would come unlock my car. He then told me that he would personally unlock it for a $60 cash fee. I called Pop-A-Lock last week after I locked my keys in my car at a local business. I gave them my location and cell #, explaied where I was in the parking lot. After 35 min and not seeing thier driver, I called and was informed that they had called my HOME phone and since I didnt answer that number they left. I was shocked, and told the man I had specificaly given them my CELL as I wasnt at home and was told 'that was the number they had on file from a past call so that's the number they used, and if I wanted them to come out there would be an additional fee.' I was waiting for someone to come help me change my tire for over an hour. The first person they dispatched was on the complete other side of town. Forty-five minutes later, a guy called me saying he was on his way. Yeah! When I told him exactly where the car was, he refused to come saying it was unsafe and he cancelled on me. Then my warranty people told me they had to pay the fee because I cancelled on THEM!! This was actually the second bad experience I've had with them. Use ANY other service but Pop-A-Lock!! read more

Tonight I got locked out of the house with my 2 1/2 year old and 8 month old inside. My husband called pop-a-lock, pop-a-lock called the fire department and everyone arrived here within 15 minutes to help get me back to my girls. Will was the pop-a-lock guy. He dropped what he was doing to get to us. He did, in fact, pop the lock. Pop-a-Lock has always been my "go-to:" for car lockouts, so when I called for help, I was expecting it to be a pretty easy thing. I was locked out f my car in Driftwood, TX- about 10-15 minutes of southwest Austin. When I called, I was put on hold, and then after a couple of minutes, the dispatcher came back and said they could send someone, but it would be an hour for them to get there (okay, no big deal, I AM out in the boonies!), but that I would have to pre-pay. WHA??? I have never had Pop-A-Lock tell me I would have to pre-pay, and it would be $120. So, I explained to them that my keys and my purse were BOTH in the car, and was basically told, well, sorry, no pre-pay, no service. WOW. I was astounded... surely I am not the first woman to lock keys, purse (method of payment) in the car at the same time?? Needless to say, I will not call Pop-A-Lock again. In the last 2 months I've tried them out 2X (lock out service and flat tire) , both times I was given a 30 minute time estimate and both times after an hour of no one showing up I gave up and cancelled. GOOD: $45.** to open car (thru window/door). Takes AMEX. Arrived within 60 minutes. Friendly technician. BAD: Time quoted was 30 minutes, not 60. Agent on phone was from USA (good), but Not from Austin (bad) and I had to repeat myself several times for her to understand directions to a well-known Austin restaurant, and specifc streets I named. The call center was Extremely Noisy - so if I had trouble hearing, no doubt she was having a hard time. Technician called 50 minutes after I hung up with agent, and was at the parking garage *next to the one my car was in. I told him to go to the next street and turn into my garage. It took him another 10+ minutes to drive around several blocks (he went way out of his way!) to go 100feet! I had to call him to bring him back to the restaurant and guide him to the entrance of the garage. A few mintues later, as he was making up the invoice/receipt he asked me if I still had the keys to my car. I responded "Yes" (...they were 3 feet away INSIDE the car) to which he asked me if I had tried to get into the car .................. WTF ?................ I had to remind him that I called his company because I could Not get into my car and I needed HIM to Open my car so I could get the key I still had.... SO- they were friendly, did Not rip me off, finished the job done within 70 minutes for less than $50. It could have been Much Worse! and it could have been better : ) read more

If you feel like getting robbed just to get your car unlocked then these are the people you should call. They advertise $15 online with no extra charges for nights and weekends. The service man that was sent to my car barely spoke english and then charged me $120 for 20 seconds of labor with attitude. I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

A courteous dispatcher had a technician at my location within an hour. He was driving a company car stenciled with company logos and advertising so it was easy to flag him down. He had a very professional appearance, wearing a clean, bright company polo and ball cap. He quickly unlocked my vehicle, wrote my ticket, and ran my card for $44.95, less than a third of what Austin Locksmith wanted! read more

I got them by default to come jump a car due to my battery been low. The driver had a B12662 allocation number. I have never dealt with the poorest customer service in the history of man kind. So this is a mixed review. We walked out of the restaurant to find that the car was dead and needed a jump. I called our extended warranty roadside assistance number who then sent pop-a-lock out to jump our car off. The tech showed up 15 minutes earlier than expected and jumped th car off in minutes. That was the good part. He goes on to say that while he was able to jump our car off he can see on his meter that our alternator was broken and that it would be unsafe to drive the car and we should get a tow truck for the night. Fair enough. I call the assistance line again and request a tow. It will be an hour before they arrive. I get a call 45 minutes later from the Tow company saying they are close and wanted to know more info on the situation. I tell him about the tech coming out and telling us the alternator was broken. He immediately asks "was it pop-lock?" I confirm and he goes on to say he has been cleaning up their messes for years and that chances are there is nothing wrong with the alternator. He arrives, does a check, and says he sees nothing wrong and it would be safe to drive home. We drive home and make it without incident. The car starts the next day without issue and we take it to Autozone who confirms there is no alternator issues or battery issues. All in all it could have been a lot worse as we were only out an hour or so of our night as the call outs were covered by our warranty. However if we had to pay for the un-necessary tow then I would have been pissed. Also, one thing I found odd was that once the pop-a-lock tech said our alternator was busted he quickly pressed hard for him to be able to arrange a tow for us. Maybe he is getting kickbacks by referring un-necessary tows? Maybe he is incompetent? Who knows. read more

My insurance company sent them out because I had locked my keys in my car. Estimated time was 30 minutes, but it took an hour for them to get there. They had emailed me a nifty gps link that showed the truck's progress (or lack thereof) getting to my location. Not sure if that was really helpful, or more so just an added irritant. The technician popped my lock quickly and efficiently once he arrived. The nightmare, however, happened about a week later. After parking my car, I heard a loud snapping sound from inside my car door. The door release mechanism had snapped, and the driver's side door would no longer open from the inside of the car. I now have to roll down the window and use the outside door handle to open my door. Of course I can't prove the damage was done by Pop-a-Lock, but nobody is going to convince me otherwise. The door functioned perfectly for 16 years and 180,000 miles until Pop-a-lock jammed their equipment into it. Pop-a-lock may seem to be an easy solution for getting into your locked car. However, a much better solution is to always have a spare key somewhere accessible. I used to always carry a spare in my wallet, and I will from now on. read more

Terrible. My roadside assistance service sent Pop-A-Lock to me so that I could have my car unlocked. The car was unlocked within a few minutes, but the technician that came out put a dent in my car (driver side fender above the tire) when he leaned on the car to obtain the VIN. I filed a claim with my roadside assistance company and called Pop-A-Lock to see how they were going handle the situation. They haven't offered much help and their customer service has not been that great. The technician who came out, who also happened to be the manager, texted me about the issue later that evening. In my opinion, that's unprofessional. So now I'm dealing with obtaining a repair estimate, a rental car, and scheduling to have my car in the shop. So much inconvenience! I'm thankful that I used this company through my roadside assistance and they're helping me deal with this because I haven't heard from Pop-A-Lock since this happened. read more

My review is identical to Jeff's from California.....Called for roadside assistance, insurance company dispatched (with a 90 minute estimated arrival - really?!?!). However, the Pop-A-Lock driver called about 20 minutes later and said he'd be there in 10 min after I completely described my location. 10 minutes later I get a call from my insurance company saying they cancelled, saying it wasn't safe on the side of the road where I was. YOU KNEW I WAS STRANDED ON THE FREEWAY!!!! I'm like Jeff....how hard would it be been for the driver to call me or stop quickly and ask me to move my car to a safer location. My insurance said I'd have to wait another 90 minutes estimate for another roadside assistance to show up. AAAAAARG!!! Fortunately, the Cedar Park (rock star!!!) police, officer Gowen, pulled over and kept watch, called Orr Towing, they showed up ASAP, changed my tire, escorted me to Costco before making me pay so I could get there before they closed and waited from me to get them started on the repair. Will NEVER waste my time with these guys for ANY REASON in the future. read more

If I could give NO stars, I would. They were sent by my roadside assistance provider to change a tire. The technician put my key to my lock on the front seat of the car. When I got to the tire shop, I gave it to them only to find out it was a socket. I called Pop a Lock and was told the technician put my key on the old tire. The owner of the tire shop told them it was impossible to put the key on the tire. Then the story changed to he had physically given it to me, again not true. Once the tire shop owner addressed that, the dispatcher hung up on us. I called right back and explained to the next dispatcher who put in a complaint and said a manager would be in contact. A week later, I call back and inquire about my key and phone call from the manager. I immediately get a call back to tell me that now the technician is a manager and pretty much his word is golden. Claims to had given me the lock, not a socket and that he also didn't put the tire in my trunk because I didn't know where to put it. I know how to change my own tire and only couldn't because of trying to turn the tire iron with a sprained finger. I know the tire goes exactly where I, not the technician, pulled the spare from. I do not recommend using Pop a Lock for opening up an interior door. If so, you could be looking at spending $225 for this task. And guess what, they won't provide an estimate over the phone either, because they don't know if it will be s high security lock or not. So the family is driving along and lo and behold we get a flat tire, a really bad FLAT tire. We pull over, and our insurance company that reimburses our road side assistance refers us to Pop A Lock. So we call, and wait a good 45 minutes or so for the guy to arrive - big guy, bald with some kind of accent. Now, from the get go he's extremely rude, and calls the people who sent him out to help us idiots for not telling him we had a flat tire - which, he shouldn't have a problem with considering his company provides this kind of service. He mocks us for not knowing how to do it ourselves, and then tells us it would cost $125 to our spare on. At first we thought he was joking, and laugh to which he replies in a curt manner "What'd you expect it to be, 10 bucks?". Peeved at his rude behavior, we tell him that it was a ridiculous amount of money to pay, and he drives off in about two seconds flat. Maybe he was hoping intimidation and desperation would make him a quick buck, but overall the employee who hesitantly, barely, and unprofessionally "attempted" (if you could call it that) help us was terrible. I would never pay money to a company who employs someone like this, I know he could have been having an off day but to not be able to put it behind them and behave in a professional, friendly manner is unacceptable. read more

I had a bent key the night before and decided to try to bend it back in the ignition of my car. It bent back but it broke as well. I shoved the key in the ignition and it started. I was able to get to a friends home and then it wouldn't start again as the tip of the key was broken off in the ignition. I called Pop-A-Lock the next morning and they advised they could be out in 3 hours. there were on time and started to work on trying to extract the tip of the key. They worked and worked and brought out all sorts of tools but it was jammed in there pretty good and the ignition was in the lock mode so they couldn't turn it. As the main technician was about to call dealerships looking for the ignition to replace his trainee was able to get the ignition turned. After that they were able to take the ignition apart and get the key tip out. I really appreciated that they kept working on it. They could have easily thrown up their hands early on and said its not going to happen. They didn't, and even though they were about to call the dealership it was only after 45 minutes of working on it. Luckily they were able to resolve it for the original quoted price which was very reasonable considering what it could have been had I had to replace the ignition completely on a 2001 car. Again, I really appreciate that they kept working on it and didn't give up and probably wouldn't have until the last moment. they were real professional and friendly and made what could have been a real crappy experience have a glimmer of hope. This is the worst company you can probably use for service. My wife and her coworker were stuck at the airport with the keys in the car. Guy shows up can't get in the employee entrance gates wife goes out to meet him and tells him to follow her in through the gates . Guy gets in His car and just leaves. Wife calls him back and he won't pick up the call. Dispatcher says he can't get in the gates. He completely lies to his dispatcher and doesn't tell them that my wife was right there with him. He leaves and services 2 other customers and promises to come back in 30 mins. 1 hour 15 mins goes by and he finally shows up. A total of 3 hours before we could get service! I called the company myself and spoke to Molly asking to speak to Terry the manager but she won't connect me. I ask for an email address and she gives me a fake AOL address that doesn't work. I have a call out to the COO in Louisiana of the franchise corporation and hopefully he will call me Monday. Better business bureau has multiple complaints on them and my next stop is to the Attorney Generals office in Travis County. Wife recorded all conversations with the guy and they will all get to hear the lies they spew out. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with these people. DO NOT CALL THEM!! i called for a battery jump, the lady tried to be helpful though seemed tentative and pretty slow; after 2 hours of a no-show i called back and was told there was no record of my phone call...the second young lady was nice but uncomfortable acknowledging that they had screwed up and barely said "We're sorry". After starting the process all over i asked if a discount was possible once someone arrived.She chatted with a manager and came back to tell me "The price didn't go up".---what??--- and that they weren't able to offer discounts.LUCKILY i was simply at home after leaving my lights on...but if i had been sitting on the road somewhere or in crappy weather...then, i hoped by some chance a supervisor might call back to find out what happened...that never happened.I called Bullet Towing here in Austin and the great tech on the phone managed to arrange for a driver to come by on his way to another call.He got to my house in 20 minutes and i was all set. It should be very simple to have well trained and accomadating techs to answer phones and be aware of easy ways to mollify a frustrated client.I guess Pop a Lock is not aware of this. read more
