Super high quality and mildly affordable, still a but on the expensive side but you're paying for quality so its worth it.

We went to popovers eagerly anticipating a great meal. When Pat ordered the grilled veggie avocado toast and was told that she had great timing because they just grilled the veggies, the excitement really started to build. It shouldn't have. Pat's avocado toast featured large size chunks of grilled veggies. There was a 1/4 of a yellow squash squatting on the toast. The veggies were stone cold and uncuttable. The toast itself was thick cut, over cooked and hard. Really hard. I watched her saw through chunks and scape off avocado from the remainder before abandoning it. I had the protein popover. I detected a slight look of derision from the waitress when I ordered a meat product. So be it. The scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, onion and pepper mixture was great. The chicken sausage was sweet which added a nice flavor to the mix. But despite the name of the restaurant the popover was a bit chewy and cold. When will restaurants learn; don't serve hot food in a cold vessel! This diminishes both! Maybe we caught them on a bad day. But for $30, we did not get what you would expect. Meh.....maybe my expectations were too high after reading such raving Yelp reviews. Like the concept of using locally sourced vendors like Giv Coffee. Loved the casual atmosphere and decor. Envious of the artistic talent of whoever does the blackboards, it definitely adds to the decor of the restaurant. However the waitstaff and food need a lot of work. Waited quite some time for the waitress to take our order, was never offered water or even checked on during our meal, not even to ask if we needed our coffee refilled. When hubby asked for a refill the waitress walked away after coming to refill his cup without even offering to refill my cup even though it was empty. What intrigued us to come were the popovers. They were huge and nicely browned but pretty tasteless unless spread with their slightly sweet butter given. Read that the corn beef hash was outstanding however what we got was not hash but shredded, dried, over salty pieces of corn beef with a few fried potatoes buried underneath. I ordered the protein pop which was scrambled eggs with bacon sausage and mushrooms. The eggs were over cooked and dry. I had to ask for ketchup to moisten the eggs. Not much as far as meats in the egg but the mushroom were fresh and tasty. I was totally disappointed in what I hoped would be a better meal. The concept is great. The place is comfortable and relaxing but really need to work in training waitstaff and better execution of food. Three stars is pretty generous, four for decor and two for service and food. If I could give zero stars, I would do this in a heartbeat. First of all, the staff is unwelcoming and whenever they're away from your table, it feels like they're scheming and talking badly of you. The menu is ridiculously overpriced, they seriously charge $9 for a sad singular piece of avocado toast. I've once purchased a muffin, and to my disgust, bit into a piece in which a piece of hair was BAKED into the muffin. It was short and blonde, I do not have blonde hair. I've seen staff members drink liquor behind the counter, I've seen cooks without face masks, gloves or hairnets cooking food for the public. After reading the other negative reviews on here about this place, the owner does not know how to take criticism. Rather, she turns the problem back onto the customer and insults them, making them feel invalid for having a negative experience when in reality, she should be taking the criticism and DOING BETTER. The drinks are subpar and once again, overpriced. The place is chaotic, unorganized, and UNCLEAN. Why are you eating at a place that doesn't even wear proper face coverings to COOK YOUR FOOD. The owner should put less money into renovations and more money into actually having a decently organized, well staffed and clean establishment. The staff, the food and the general environment is toxic. Maybe if she was more competent then I would consider returning for a meal. My family and I have been disappointed every time we try to give them another chance. Do NOT bother spending money or wasting any gas to come here. read more

My mother and I came across this little restaurant on the way home from a hockey game, and OH MY GOSH, this food was amazing. The popovers were delicious and soft, stuffed to the top with eggs, bacon, sausage, and cheese! Service was prompt and friendly, I highly recommend the plates and popovers, because they are delicious. Excellent place to go, and I wish that I lived closer. read more

This beautiful spot in Simsbury is a must, for a unique eating experience! I'd never had my food served in a popover before! Though my first choice of pulled pork, with cheddar and slaw was unavailable during my visit, the 12-hour-cooked corned beef was a good substitute. My son's steak on a popover was delicious, he said. The service is attentive and informative. The Giv coffee is fabulous. I had a cappuccino and my son, a dirty chai latte. The many Connecticut and New England-sourced products are listed on a chalk board in the sleek, but warm, clean and inviting spot. I took advantage of the Yelp $15 for $10 offer and of the check-in offer of a free popover, to go. I was given a bag and instructions for reheating on my way out. At home, I heated my split popover and spread it with the accompanying (honey?) butter. So delectable!! You will be happy with yourself if you make this spot your destination! read more

We waited a bit longer than we thought we should for our order. When we received our plates we discovered why. My eggs were cold and my companions' waffles were too. I didn't complain about the coldness because I was distracted by something else. The menu item I ordered was supposed to come with three eggs and fruit. But only two eggs, and no fruit, were delivered. I asked and soon got the missing egg and fruit, but the fruit was two, perhaps 1/2 inch thick, half melon slices. This seemed meager, and I knew they had other fruit in the kitchen because the waffles came with strawberry bits. My meal was okay but nothing special. Very plain. My companions' waffles were okay, but my spouse's had maybe a tablespoon of whipped cream and three tiny slivers of strawberry. My mom-in-law's waffle had a bit more whipped cream (maybe two tablespoons) and the same few thin slices of strawberry. I complained to someone who may have been an owner, but she had nothing to offer except apologies for the cook, and how exasperated and busy she was. "I just got here." (The apologies were sincere, but the failures were serious.) I ate here once before, shortly after it opened, and the food and service was better. This time I was very disappointed. read more

The Popover Bistro is a cute place and the food has been pretty good when I've gone there. The popovers are a nice touch- one can buy them, but they also come to the table after a meal, if I'm remembering correctly (and they're yummy!). Popover's is more than just your typical coffee shop/bakery- the meals are good and there's something for everyone on the menu. It's a nice lunch stop with much more character and charm than the Starbucks down the road. read more

My son and I have been to popover almost every weekend for the last year and it an absolutely amazing atmosphere. My son, who is a special needs joy, has fallen in love with all the incredible gluten free offerings. It is always fresh, healthy and delicious and the portions are excellent. This was our second visit and I've come to the conclusion that you really need to know what to order. The popovers are good . The coffee is great. The waffles were tasty. Ordered a salad which the spring mix lettuce was so rotten I had to send it back. When I got my new salad it had the same rotten lettuce. The person I was with said they ate here last week and had to send thier salad backf or the same reason. I quickly ordered a sandwich and it was not remarkable or memorable. Our new go to breakfast spot! My daughter likes to sit and people watch while eating a muffin and this is a great spot for that! First thing to note is that they have great coffee. It's strong and delicious. Popovers infuses local ingredients throughout their menu which I am always happy to see. Service staff was VERY friendly and helpful! So far, I have had their eggs & hash, and an egg sandwich. Both worthy of eating again and again! They have gluten free bread & muffin options as well. Went to lunch with my wife the other day, and what a delight! I can say the service was not an A+, but it was certainly at least average. The food was excellent! Keep in mind this bistro tends to serve "healthier meals" so if you are looking for Fried Chicken and Waffles, you may not love this place. This is definitely NOT an Ihop. I happen to love healthier meals, and this place was great. Very creative dishes and super fresh ingredients will fill you up, all while keeping your guilt in check. I will definitely be heading back if I am remotely close to the area. If they can get the service (B-) to the level of the food (A++), it would be one of the best in the state. read more

I can't believe I didn't know about this place until a few months ago. I've since been back several times to show it to all my friends and family. The restaurant is bright and fun with many chalkboards on the walls. My favorite part of this restaurant is that most of the food is from local places. They even have a map on the wall showing you where everything is from. As a person who prefers to eat mostly vegetarian, I found the menu quite expansive. Most meals come with a signature popover. Although I enjoyed my salad and popover, I didn't find the quality exceptional. It was good, but not anything amazing. I still would recommend Popover for their support of local food and healthy ingredients. read more

A delicious new twist on the breakfast. The atmosphere was open, bright and trendy with seating along the windows and two large farm high top tables where we had the joy of meeting and sharing the table and conversation with two college professors. No worries if meeting new people is not in your comfort zone there is plenty of two and four person seating available! Now to the best part- the food ! The absolute best steak I've ever had in my life!!! I took a chance taking my Mom for her birthday breakfast to a place we'd never been. Now here's the thing... she likes her steak medium rare (pink & juicy but not raw) & I like my steak well done (no pink what so ever) plus I won't eat it if there's any fat or gristle. Well, this always seems to be a huge challenge for some chefs to get either one just right... but not at all for Popover Bistro & Bakery! Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection!!! Hers was perfectly pink, juicy & delightfully delishious and mine was perfectly well done and still tender, juicy & wonderfully delicious with not a single bit of fat! Wonderful dinner, husband had pot pie with huge lovely popover on top-- he loved it! I had the hangar steak done perfectly med rare, with its fabulous crispy Brussels sprouts and roasted potatoes. Have eaten here several times, and while the food is quite good, the service leaves much to be desired. Ingredients and accompaniments tend to be missed, you will need to ask more than once for things (i.e. glass of water, missing side, etc.), and God help you if you are in a rush to get your credit card run. All of that said, if you have extra time and an equal amount of patience, the food here is quite tasty - everything from the waffles to the sandwiches are well-made and served fresh. In keeping with all of their fresh, locally sourced, top quality ingredients, Popover eschews the typical "shoe-leather-what-do-you-want-from-us-it's-breakfast" steak in favor of a generous helping of tender London Broil style steak. It's delicious. It's the only place I go where I don't even look at the menu because I know precisely what I want...and that it's going to be outstanding.
