Cluster Snow Crab

I'm confused and upset that they don't have that amazing Buffalo shrimp on the menu (this was my go to at the Sayville location almost weekly for a couple years when I worked nearby; it wasn't buffalo sauce, more tangy) That being said, I love popei's clan bar, always have since I was a little kid. Bunch of memories so it's near and dear. Had some uber codes and decided to grab a bite, so fresh, so awesome, can't wait to try the entire menu after my very long separation from this place. Great to be back in Long Island after-all! - I've since had a bunch more: *Pronto Mussels - good, but that oily hot kick doesn't suit mussels in my opinion. *everything tuna over asparagus and avocado - meh, I wouldn't get this again, you get two deep fried spears of asparagus, it falls short on flavor and presentation *crab clusters - solid, not salty, delicious *overstuffed jumbo baked clams - love em, keep em coming *broccoli rabe - little bitter, as it tends to be often, I've had better but fine. *clam strips - I don't thing I've ever had good clam strips, I always want them to be better, just fried friedness lol, never worth it.

Bowl of lobster bisque.

The restaurant is divided into two sections: a bar area and a restaurant area. The restaurant area is bright and welcoming with a sea fearing atmosphere. My wife and I arrived shortly after three. Based on the early dinner crowd, it is best to make reservations for anything after five in the evening. Our waitress, Nancy, was friendly and welcoming. I ordered a bowl of lobster bisque and the mild, calamari marinara. The bowl of lobster bisque could have been a meal unto itself! The calamari marinara is made with a light sauce just as done in Naples - Italy. My wife enjoyed her clams aglio ed olio and the broiled seafood platter, however, there was so much on the plate we both only were able to have a quarter of what we ordered... well maybe, I had a bit more. Suffice to say, Popei's clam bar has become a favorite place to drop in and have a great early dinner! The Takeaways 1. Good parking 2. Fantastic food to price ratio 3. Excellent service 4. Inviting local 5. Excellent food 6. Nancy our waitress was great Summing it all up... go hungry. If you found this review useful or you liked the pictures, drop me a like.

6-29-25. My first time here. Not sure if this place has anything to do with the other Popei's locations in Nassau County.......I would assume so because the menu is very similar. Came with my family and we ordered some lobster bisque, New England clam chowder, Long Island clam chowder (which is half Manhattan and half New England), some terryaki wings and a pot of steamed mussels to start. For entrees we had Popei's Italia which was linguini with shrimp, broccoli rabe, sweet red peppers and cannalini beans in a buttery garlic and oil sauce. Also ordered a fried flounder entree with mixed vegetables......in addition to a few broiled flounder dishes with mixed vegetables. Lastly, we ordered a side of linguini with white clam sauce and linguini with red clam sauce. I tasted everything and it was an overall great meal. The linguini in both white and red sauces were tasty and generous. Terryaki wings were decent, but nothing fantastic. Broiled flounder was light and flaky and could have had a tiny bit more flavor but it was still very good. Steamed mussels in marinara sauce was excellent and the Popei's Italia pasta dish was by far my favorite. Packed with a nice garlicky flavor and full of shrimp. The garlic bread they bring to the table provides an excellent vehicle for sopping up all that tasty broth. Our waitress could not have been more accommodating. Very attentive and she provided some suggestions and great service. Casual ambiance and a comfortable setting. Nice bar area. Live music on Sundays in the summer. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and craving some seafood. As an added bonus, it's less crowded and less expensive than a few other seafood options you have in the Port which is only a short distance away.......and as far as I'm concerned, the food was better here anyway.

My plate was the Captains Platter and everything was delicious! My boyfriend did the pick 3

So we went to Popei's for my birthday lunch. The food was great and everything was delicious. We had gone on a Saturday afternoon and there was maybe 4 other groups of people with us. Service was a bit slow considering it wasn't busy but we always have a good meal here and will return in the future

Curious if there is a different cook there on Sunday? My daughter and I often order a dish through DoorDash that we love and it's always very delicious but last night we ordered and it was totally lacking in flavor, just not sure why! I hate being disappointed because we love getting food from there several times a month.

The food is good but can be pricey. They have a great bar menu after 10 pm. They also have a great lunch menu , and a nice bar area.

Another food safari and another BBQ crawl with my son-in-law (we're both aspiring pitmasters and…read morelove to try new places together; it's our thing). This week's excursion brought us to Struggletown BBQ in Mount Sinai, NY. From what I learned, what started as a food truck morphed into a brick-and-mortar business that has obviously hit its stride. This place is awesome! On the table this time was a "Big John Sampler", a 1/4# platter of brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and ribs, as well as a side of chicken wings in an Alabama White Sauce and corn bread. Absolute winners all around. My first real introduction to corn bread was from Paul Prudhomme's cookbook "Louisiana Kitchen," where I learned to make, and love, a traditional southern corn bread (moist, flaky, and somewhat sweet). Of all the places that I've been to, in my humble opinion, this place has the best outside K-Paul's. There is a reason that it's one of the most requested items from the restaurant. It was excellent! Why am I making a fuss about cornbread? Because it's the details that make a restaurant great. Next came the chicken wings in Alabama White Sauce. I'm now a convert. Sure, I've had it a few times, but this version was eye-opening! Perfectly smoked, then fried chicken wings slathered in this red-sauce alternative was an epiphany for me. I don't think I'll ever look at the humble chicken wing the same way again. I am spoiled for life! Goodbye Buffalo, hello Decatur (where the sauce reputedly originated). Yeah, that good and worth traveling for. The meats? What you want from a BBQ joint. The brisket, pulled pork, and chicken were all juicy and smoked to perfection; the ribs had a smoke ring that made me jealous of their skill set (I'll get there one day). Have I said "awesome? yet? Plenty of parking, all cards, and they cater! This is one of those places that you'll want to day trip to if you're jonesing for some smoky greatness. Very nice people behind the counter and a magician working the pits. You gotta go here. Just not on a Monday, they're closed.

We were seated immediately and served chips & salsa. The salsa was excellent with just enough of a spice kick. For appetizers, we ordered the garlic shrimp and beef Empanadas. The shrimp were served in a hot cast iron skillet in a sauce similar to francese with a cross of oreganata - amazing flavor!!! The empanadas were large, crispy and over stuffed with meat and cheese - excellent! My husband had the steak/chicken/shrimp Fajitas Combo, also served in a hot cast iron skillet. He enjoyed it very much. So much flavor and the meat was very tender. He even at the sautéed peppers and onions, which he never does. I ordered the steak bowl. My steak was perfectly medium rare and very tender. It was a decent portion size, enough for leftovers. Our server was so sweet and helpful, as was the table runner. Service was great. We will definitely be back.

By far and away the worst I've experienced. I took away a star for this reason. The new spot aesthetically is just okay. As always with local restauranteurs little to no attention paid to the noise level. My ears were bleeding throughout dinner. The restaurant needs decor which creates a warmer inviting presence. Our food was delicious but the wait time for the meals and drinks was insufferable. BTW, the wait time for the check was equally as painful. To the owners, get your (you know what) together and figure this out. You will not succeed unless immediate improvements are made.

When we entered the…read moreestablishment, the seating area was empty, by the time we left, at around 5:00 PM, the place was getting crowded. We ordered fried calamari as appetizers and a zuppa di pesce - while zuppa is translated as soup in English, the dish is closer to what may be considered a fish stew. In addition to the fried calamari we also ordered a large salad that we split. Cova is a unique restaurant that serves dinner in a family-style format. This means that the entrees are designed to be shared between two or four people. While the food is excellent, for a hungry person, the amount per serving is not worth the price. Unfortunately, the cappuccino maker was not in service, so I ordered a regular cup of decaffeinated coffee. Regrettably, the coffee was not to my liking. The Takeaways: 1. The food is very tasty. 2. The coffee is not good. 3. The price to portion ration is poor. 4. Parking is ample. 5. Make reservations.
