We recently visited the Popeyes in DeKalb while dropping off my siblings for their first day of college. Our experience was incredibly disappointing, mainly due to the general manager's unprofessional, disrespectful and rude behavior. When we placed our orders, the GM continuously walked off and returned, asking the same questions over and over about our sides, which were simply fries. we waited over 15 minutes in the heat, our orders were still not ready. One of my sisters decided to cancel their order out of frustration, but the other still wanted her meal. When our mom politely asked if only two people were working, showing empathy for their situation, the GM responded with, "Yes, why? What's the problem?" Our mom clarified there wasn't a problem, just concern for the staff. The GM's response? "Well, I don't have time for criticism." This was completely uncalled for, especially after we had shown nothing but respect despite the long wait and poor service. i'm not sure what kind of day he had before we pulled up, but taking it up with the customers mother and kids is not necessary at all. To make matters worse, the GM returned and aggressively questioned my cousin, asking, "Why do I keep seeing you glaring at me? What are you looking at?" My cousin wasn't glaring at all, and understandably got defensive. After that unnecessary confrontation, the GM ignored our mother's request for his name and the corporate number, which we believe he gave us a fake name. The service was beyond unacceptable, and the attitude of the GM was left a bad taste in everybody's mouth. This experience made never want to come back, and I strongly advise others to reconsider visiting this location until they address their staffing issues and teach their management some basic respect and professionalism. read more

You actually don't want customers, or I would've been served first, in order we arrived. Door dash are pushy, but they're PAID , now someone else had the $ I brought to use on Popeyes. I love Popeyes and I was more than ecstatic when I heard we were getting one in the area. Unfortunately it hasnt been everything that I have expected and I honestly gave up on going there. Every Tuesday I have a class that ends at 12:50 and by the time I get here it's probably 1:15- still lunch time- yet they never have chicken! I finally was very annoyed and asked how a chicken place never had chicken?? The staff informed me that Tuesday is the day that they get their shipment and all their chicken is frozen and that it would be ready around 4.....so I don't go there for lunch anymore. But today my dad offered to take me to lunch- I'm a struggling college kid and this place is conveniently near campus. She started it would take 7 mins and they weren't ready. I thought okay, since I'm spending time with my dad, catching up- sure I could wait 7 mins. After I paid, some kid came from the back and she told him to start some pies. I'm starting to think that's what's going on here- nothing is made and ready, they just do it IF someone is willing to wait for it. Spent some time catching up with my dad, waiting for my pie to finish. We discussed the Lincoln Towers and ongoing police activity there when he said "it's been more than 7 mins". Walked-in on a slow Sunday afternoon with my wife and two daughters. This meal would have been our last meal after concluding a (6,000+) mile family road trip before arriving home in Chicago. This was the worst experience by far in our entire trip, and sadly it happened so close to home. -Dining room empty (slow traffic) so our service should have been attentive if not stellar. -Every employee was lazy beyond belief and unenthusiastic about working at a new Popeye's location. The owner must have spent good money to build this franchise location, but the employees will surely destroy it in no time at all. -Not a single employee acknowledged my darling daughters (though, I could let this go because not everyone is a "kid" person). -Ordered the 10 piece chicken tender family meal with 2 large sides and 5 biscuits which was advertised on their digital screens above the order taker. Added a drink and a cup for water. -Waited 20 minutes as they fumbled around in the kitchen trying to assemble our order. -As we waited we noticed the soda machine spilling over on the floor, and this wet my wife's pant legs, and made our shoes really sticky! Rather than addressing this issue (user error not machine error) they just let it continue to spill over after I mentioned this to them. -I had to walk-up to the counter to ask for my drink cups (but couldn't fill these cups because the drink machine was literally spilling over). So sad because this is an expensive machine I'm sure, and all it requires is some basic common sense maintenance, but the 5 - 6 employees that were there, cared not to address the issue, so we couldn't fill our drinks. -I had to ask for napkins. I had to ask for sauce. I had to ask for literally everything because there was not a 'single' item for the customer/diner to grab themselves through self-service. -None of the employees were cleaning the tables and bathrooms (again, even though the dining room was empty and it was just us)! The high chairs were full of mac & cheese. The dining room offered nothing to help us deal with this issue. Bathrooms smelled like marijuana. -Food finally comes out. They added gravy to our mashed potatoes though we asked for it without. They gave us rice & beans when we asked for fries. They then tell us they're out of fries, so I guess they just thought it was ok to pick our side for us, even though we don't eat their rice and beans because it contains pork within it. Here's the best part. They gave us bone-in chicken instead of the tenders we ordered and told us this is what we ordered and that they didn't have any tenders! WTF!? We ask for a refund, reluctantly, because they gave us no choice. The female manager that was sitting at the back eating in visible sight of the customers, waddles to the front unapologetically and cancels our order. No apologies. No questions as to why or what went wrong. She just refunded our order and waddled away. Went to the Culver's across the street. What a night and day difference with the service, food quality, and environment. Bad management and shitty employees ruin businesses. I'm sorry to the owner of this franchise.
