I love local "hole in the wall" joints that serve good food, and that's exactly what Pops is. We walked in and were told to seat ourselves. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak which I rarely order. It had a good texture and flavor, and came with a nice country gravy. They offer several different potato options, I ordered the home style which are circle cut and fried. Ok, but not my favorite. This place was a random choice, just simply yelped a local restaurant in the area Downey for me to eat after work, the reviews from Pops caught my interest! I had the corn beef hash, came with a large portion, potatoes, eggs, and toast.. however I substituted for the biscuits and gravy. I've honestly never ordered Biscuits and gravy before but man was so glad I did, the biscuit was so soft and moist and the gravy was amazing! corn beef hash was a little oily but it was delicious! Service was great! Didn't like how there was not really much of a waiting area, the entrance is pretty close to the tables where people are eating so it was a little uncomfortable considering how busy it was. Found this little gem on Yelp while we searched for near by breakfast joints. The wait time can be pretty long since this place is quite busy, but they do serve good food so we don't mind it. Their coffee is the bomb! Their pancakes are fluffy and delicious! I've had their Steak and my fiancé has had their pork chops, both tasted great. A couple months ago before the pandemic started I visited this place for breakfast with my sister and her baby. I was blown away by the servers attentiveness with us. It was a busy Saturday morning but they managed to bring us our warm food with the utmost sense of urgency. I love that our server was such a sweet and nice woman and the fact that she made us feel welcome and as if we were family. I'm writing this review after a couple months late but nevertheless I was very happy to have visited this café. I 100% recommended this spot! Ordered at 10:30 am via postmates. Had our guy waiting for over an hour after telling him to wait 20 minutes. They cancelled the order at 12 pm. I called pops and they said they canceled all pending orders but never updated anyone or the app so we waited 90 minutes just to find out they cancelled the order. Where do I start ? This is my second time coming in to eat & I will definitely continue to come back . Theresa is one of the nicest people I have ever encountered , beautiful smile , very kind & polite & had very great memory. Sat down at a table & decided to try something new . Theresa came by my table & remembering from my first visit , asked if I wanted orange juice . She got points for remembering aha . Ordered huevos rancheros with a side of sausage links , yes I know weird combination, with over easy eggs . They put some salsa on top of the eggs , which gave it great added flavor . Great little breakfast joint (emphasis on little; you might need to wait a while to grab a table). I highly recommend the deep fried french toast! Absolutely delicious and very filling! My friend had the biscuit & gravy and chicken fried steak-- she loved it. I make it a point to try every breakfast burrito that I can get my hands on, and Pop's will not disappoint. Not the best that I've eaten, but delicious nonetheless. Burrito has good heft, multiple meats, and yummy salsa. I had the Pop's Breakfast, which had a sausage in between a biscuit and smothered with gravy. My wife and I ate for just over $20. If you go during peak hours there can be a long wait. Strip mall parking can get really crowded. However, it's well worth it. Cafe has the feel of a legit hole in the wall small town diner. It actually deserves its own space versus having to share with adjacent store fronts. Menu is reasonably priced and easy to sort through. I had the pancakes last time I was here. We stopped by for breakfast after our morning walk at the beach to clelebrate my birthday. This was our firs time to Pop's Cafe. This was a cute hole in the wall restaraunt. The service was fast and speedy. The staff were nice and friendly. You get a huge portion for the price. We were all shocked when we saw how big the pancakes were. It was the size of the plate! This place is tiny but big on flavor and portions. Very well priced. I had the ham steak with the Irish potatoes, 2 eggs, and rye toast- $9.50. The ham steak was a little dry but had a lot of that smoky ham flavor that goes a long way I would knock it a half star for that but the flavor helped pick it back up. I had the eggs Benedict with hash... very flavorful sauce with a thicker consistency which I do prefer to the more common thin sauce you usually find at restaurants. Finally got to try this place out since i came on a Monday the previous week, only to find out they were closed! :( I ordered the French toast half grilled and half fried, scrambled eggs and sausage links. Eggs were ok (nothing special), sausage links were a little too salty for my taste and greasy, and finally the French toast......i only tried the fried one and it just left a ugh taste in my mouth. I've honestly had better French toast at other locations plus since it was fried, it was a little too greasy!!! I didn't feel like tasting my grilled french toast so I'm not sure how it tasted! This place is located within a Plaza. It is casual, clean, open space, and friendly staff. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Irish potatoes (I think that's what they are called). The potatoes were okay they were missing some seasoning. The yolk on my eggs were runny so that was good. The bread at the bottom was buttery, moist, and crispy, delicious. The cream was thick, but not creamy. The taste of the cream took over my entire plate, which I did not mind, but it made my plate very plain. The cream really did not have any flavor, again it was missing some sort of seasoning. I would have to go back and try a different plate at this location. We decided to check this little cafe since we were in the area. Everyone was so friendly and we got a table right away. I ordered the pops signature I think which came with a sausage biscuit and hash browns with onions and bell peppers on top(Irish style)and then your choice of eggs I got scrambled. My friend ordered the Denver omelette and when our food come out it looked so good. My plate was so good the biscuit tasted homemade with the sausage gravy on top I ate it all.
