Great place to eat! Great service and the food is BOMB!!! Stopped by Pops Cafe on my way to Giant RV and I 100% recommend this place!

Machaca con huevos - unfortunately reporting the meal was very bland. No salt no sazón no nada.

I did return because I was impressed by my first visit. This time the experience was different. The coffee this time was very weak and diluted. I ordered the machaca and huevos. Although the machaca and eggs looked great with all the diced veggies it was totally bland. The refried beans and rice were also bland. Too bad. I think I tasted more of the pot the beans were cooked in haha. I have two stars because at least the food was not dry or old.

When we arrived, the line was really long, even though I had called ahead and was told there was no wait. We still had to put our name on the list, but to their credit, we were seated within a few minutes. The place was definitely crowded and loud. I ordered water and coffee, and my friend just got water. A staff member brought the drinks but ended up spilling the coffee all over the table and menu. He just said, "Sorry about that," and walked off. I figured he would come back to clean it up, but he didn't. I had to flag him down to ask for napkins. Instead of helping, he just dropped off a stack. It was a lot of coffee, four napkins were soaked. Thankfully, our server Paris turned things around. She was super friendly and had great personality. I asked her for a recommendation between the breakfast burrito and the Belgian waffle. She suggested the burrito, and it did not disappoint. My friend got the country fried steak (which Paris said was the best in town), and he was also craving a pancake, so they let him sub that in for toast. Service started off rocky, but Paris made the experience better. I probably would not return to sit down but I would order take out.

First timers driving by from out of town. OMGOSH pancakes. I was looking for good ones and I definitely found them. Hubby really enjoyed the CFS. It's his go to when we stop into wonderful places like this. Potatoes done exactly as asked, coffee..YES PKEASE keep this wonderful taste comin'. Wait staff...10/10. Very kind friendly and knowledgeable. What we need more of everywhere. We will be back. Oh...saw onions-had to taste onion rings. DELICIOUS! We will be back when in town again.

I thought it was good but not great. First time trying pops cafe with some friends and we weren't sure whether to try the huevos rancheros so I went safe and ordered corned beef hash... I asked the lady if it's made in house and she said yes but ... definitely Did not taste like it. Maybe I did not ask the question the right way haha but yeah it didn't taste like something they made or look that way either. I've had homemade corned beef hash and this def was not it. My friend got their pork chorizo plate and the beans were def canned also. The country fried steak also did not taste like something they made themselves. The price for these plates were about $17+ each. The pancakes on the other hand were great! We loved the pancakes a lot! That's where they get there 3 stars from me. I heard this place gets pretty packed and you seat yourself. Service was good though. Friendly people. The food was just ok. Thankful for those pancakes though...

Very good service! Food was good nothing special about it. The inside was loud like any breakfast restaurant. The walls have old license plates from different states and countries. We were charged for an extra coffee which and also they charged us more than the bill amount. When they swiped the credit card it was .93 cents more than what the food receipt said. I didn't read anywhere if they charge to pay for credit card or did they warn me but I figured that's what it was.

Noisy; popular and well organized. Food was great! The salsa could be much better but overall, great. The breakfast burrito was good and quite big. Waffle breakfast was equally good. Service is always attentive. Will be back!

My boyfriend recommended me this mom and pop shop. We tried coming here a couple times but the wait was insane! We tried one more time on Valentine's Day and we waited for about 30-45 minutes, considering the date, it wasn't too bad! The portions are hefty and the waiter was patient and polite.

Pop's is a longtime local favorite in Downey. It provides excellent service, good food and reasonable prices. It won't break the bank to take the family out for breakfast! I've explored much of the menu, but I always return to their famous pancakes! They are enormous, fluffy, and have that perfect, old-fashioned hotcake flavor that other spots just can't match. The BLT on rye or sourdough is another standout: a classic sandwich absolutely piled high with super crispy, perfectly cooked bacon. If you're looking for genuine, quality food and a great atmosphere, make a special trip to Pop's!

Pretty good! I had a cheeseburger, but instead of the bun, I asked for it wrapped in lettuce (gluten-free) and it came out just the way I expected. The fries here are really good. I saw someone across from me who ordered the onion rings, and they are huge! Like ear muffs! I gotta order those with my burger next time. Out server, Jane was really nice and fun, she had jokes and was very attentive. Came here for lunch with colleagues, I will be back! read more

Wasn't even given attention once we walked in. The other people that came in before us did(maybe because they were older and we're just a bunch of punk looking kids?). And they got states at a table we didn't notice because it was busy, so we looked stupid just standing there not knowing what to do around everyone else eating at their tables. They said we had to wait 30mins for the next table when we could have just gotten the help like they did and not being ignored... we left disappointed and recommend the younger crowd to not try this place because you'll just get treated like crap and looked down upon I guess. read more

Great food. Plates are awesome portions size. Waitress during the week(Weds) has good personality which makes it a pleasant experience. My family comes here a lot. It's my 3rd time back. Usually think of eating here at night, however they close at 2:30p so no go on that. Wish they had more hours open, I'd eat more often. read more

This is a regular breakfast spot for when I visit my mom. You have to try the Huevos Rancheros! This was probably the best I've had. . I also like the gourmet omelet. My mom always gets the chicken fried steak there. The biscuits are really good as well. The best thing about Pops Cafe is Theresa the waitress. She is super sweet & so funny. My mom will only sit in her section when we go there! read more

I'm not a big fan of iHop so occasionally I would go to the Pancake Corner. I rather enjoy a low key cozy friendly environment, so I asked my breakfast partner to scout Yelp for another local breakfast nook to my liking. This place is awesome! I don't know why I didn't hear about it before. I ordered Pop's Country Breakfast. A biscuit cut in half with a sausage patty in between covered in gravy accompanied by a scrambled egg and hash brown. PEREFECTION. It's so local. Can't wait to go back. No complaints went on a Tuesday morning around 10am not many people. Seated immediately. read more

Twenty minute wait , not to bad, staff is kind and welcoming . The lady who came to take our order was just super sweet . The temperature in the restaurant it self is pretty warm and kinda stuffy, maybe there's too many people ? The restaurant seats about 12-16 parties it looks like . Ordered my food and it's been about 30 minutes and still nothing , I see a lot of other getting their orders but I ordered one pancake and a side of biscuit and gravy . My boyfriend orders a breakfast burrito. I think it took a little too long to come out. The biscuit and gravy is HUGE ! And delicious ! The pancake took forever to come out but worth it ! It was lift and fluffy but not dense and thick ! It melts in your mouth and was delicious and my boyfriend approves of the giant breakfast burrito for only $6!! First time being there and food was amazing. Had me the corn beef hash breakfast with biscuits and gravy. Hands down to the chefs. I recommend everyone to come and enjoy a delicious meal. Only thing that it was a bit warm inside the restaurant. But 2 thumbs up on the food. Will be back read more

Long wait to get in and long wait to get fed, wait is worth it though, try the Irish potatoes they're the pimped out version of hash browns (they add onion and bell pepper), not really a coffee person but it tastes so good here. Plan to wait a good half hour-at least to get seated, not to bad, but there's no waiting area. read more

Okay, I've been back a couple of times and yeah, it's okay. It sort of depends on your background, sort of. I'm a BIG fan of biscuits and gravy and their gravy seems a little creepy to me. It doesn't taste like there's freshly cooked sausage involved (and that's a MUST). And they're home fries are undercooked. And feta cheese? What are you, a commie?!? Also, they have no green veggies to go in their omelettes (for educated Democrats). No spinach, no broccoli, no zucchini, no asparagus. Kind of sad. And as always, the coffee's pretty bad. WAY TOO WEAK. There's only three or four restaurants in the LA/Orange county area that serve good coffee. But, if you just want carbs and sugar for breakfast, knock yourself out with pancakes and french toast. Oh well. read more

Pancakes were huge but not as great as I expected... They were a bit flavorless. Eggs were done right (over medium), sausage was crispy! Coffee was okay... Irish potatoes were delicious and crispy! Server was nice, but no one greeted us at the entrance. I was unsure if there was a host or what until another customer instructed me to put my name on the wait list. Wait was average, about 10 mins. Been coming to Pops cafe for years, ever since new management seems this place going down hill, this by far worst experience ever, if I can give it zero stars I would. I came with party of 8, they told us it would be about 20-30 minutes, we know it would take a little longer but this was ridiculous. We got here at 10:05, and we decided to leave 1 hour and half later 11:40. My son let them know previously to split us up 4 and 4, but they kept on getting party's of 5. & 4. I had two elders both with diabetes so I couldn't wait anymore. My brother went to complain but they but Pop's management didn't seem apologetic, seems like they just care about money know. read more

This was my first time at Pops and I had a pleasant experience. My buddy and I sat next to these two older gentleman and had a good chat with them since they were frequent customers once a week according to them. I gotta say the food was very good. Both of our plates were cleared out by the time we finished. There were so many things I wanted to try but I'll save that for next time around. I will definitely be going back and recommending this place to some friends of mine. read more

Best breakfast I've ever had in my life! I ordered the French toast and was given the option of deep fried or regular, I didn't know which to choose and the waitress suggested I try both and they were both amazing. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak and I kept poking at his plate the entire time, it was seriously the best chicken fried steak ever in the world. A little bit of a wait to be seated though but I'm not even mad about that. Great service & amazing foods. read more

Tried it based on recommendations from friends and even though there was a long wait time (Sunday Morning) it was totally worth it! I fell in love with their fried french toast it is very tasty, there was literally an explosion of greatness in my mouth when I tried it. I will be coming back and bringing many of my friends too this place because there should be a lot of people knowing great hidden food spots like this one read more

Came in and ordered the chicken fried steak and deep fried french toast. The chicken fried steak wasnt anything to go crazy about but the deep fried French toast on the other hand is something everyone definitely MUST try! I would love to give this place 5 stars but the service was just not there. Props to the chef(s) for some phenomenal food but up front needs a major change. read more

Today was my first time here. I have to say that I had the best breakfast here so far! I had their pancakes, eggs, and sausage and it was VERY delicious. I also got to taste the country gravy biscuit and was impressed. The service was very good too. NOTE: their pancakes are enormous! :-D read more

It's busy most mornings. The times I've been there they seem to have loyal regulars. The food is great and the orders come out of the kitchen rather fast. So the wait time isn't to bad.

Always nice to find hidden gems. I was on the lookout for a family friendly place to eat breakfast with great food and Pop's Café definitely has it. I'm usually not one to wait around for breakfast however the line outside Pop's seemed to be moving at a decent pace so I decided to stay and try it out. I am sure glad I did as their eggs benedict were amazing and went well with their delicious Irish potatoes. Usually in places like these you either get great food with mediocre service or mediocre food with great service, Pop's I'm glad to say has both amazing food and service. Amazing service with a friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Our meals were delivered in reasonable time and they were absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the eggs Benedict with the crunchy potatoes. I shared half with a friend and enjoyed half for lunch. It was sooo delicious. The veggies, sauces, meats were so well balanced. The bread!!! The bread was so toasty and tasty.
