They boasted about that sofrito seasoning, it was bland ketchup and did nothing to elevate the flavor of the fish , pass.

Sorry for the delay with these guys , I always forget to leave reviews . But this restaurant was EVERYTHING . The food was flavorful, fresh, delightful . Perfect date night (we came after a show) it has warm lighting, plants everywhere and quiet enough to actually talk ! And when I say we let not a sip or crumb go to waste ! We actually came back here a few times after because of the oysters alone ! (If anyone follows me they would know I am a oyster lover by now) Its so good . I highly recommend.

This was our pick for my mother's birthday dinner and they did not disappoint. My service pup was able to dine with me which I loved. The aesthetic of this restaurant puts you in a festive mood. It's intimate, dimmed and classy. Everything about this place is unique. From the drinks, presentation of the food and servers. Everyone made us comfortable at all times. Our food recommendations were amazing and we are happy that we listened to our server. The location of this place is great and in general compared to the options around I would 100% recommend this authentic and unique place. .

I love this place as it's in the cut and the building is mix use, hotel, bar and restaurant. As i walked in i noticed a bar towards the right and the bar tender was in the process of showing his skills from the order that was placed. I walked by a few chairs and was greeted by the host and the Manager who gave us a family warm welcome like he knew us for years. The hostess sat us down in a corner booth and as we sat down the restaurant lighting dimmed as if they were waiting for us to sit down, perfect timing. We were greeted by the waitress who also made us feel like we were family, best walk in welcome I had in years. I was excited by the ambiance, it was really great vibes. We ordered a tequila and passion and a dirty Martini and the drinks were on the money. The waitress brought us this small dish filled with roasted season corn, this was crunchy and season perfectly, i wanted to order a bag to take home. For the apps we ordered Calamari and it was flaky and crispy that came with a creamy dipping sauce that complimented each other. Ceviche Classico was flavorful and tender. The steak fritas was one of the popular items on the menu so i had to see what the fuss was about. The steak was tender, sliced thin and layered across the plate for a great presentation. The edges of the steak was a little charred, crispy on the edges and for me that was the best part of the steak as the edges locked in the seasoning and all that good flavor. The shoe string fries match perfectly with the steak, i could have ordered more fries!! After dinner we decided to head up to the escalator and have a few drinks at the bar. The lightning on the escalator was definitely a photo opportunity for ig. I would definitely come back for dinner have more drinks and get more lessons from the manager who informed us that the owner is one half of the owners of the world famous studio 54!! This place is such a Vibe!!!!

This trendy Peruvian restaurant is located on the first floor of the Public Hotel. The decor is gorgeous. Even though the plants are fake, they create an inviting, tropical aesthetic. Our server was super sweet and charming. Initially he was very attentive, but once our entrees arrived, he was a little hard to flag down and he definitely tried to upsell us on a few things. For an appetizer, we shared the crispy oyster mushrooms. The dish came with three large mushrooms so it was enough for our group of six to share. The mushrooms were incredibly crunchy and succulent. They came with a thick layer of sauce that was tangy and savory. For my main, I had the quinoa stir fry. It was a generous portion size. The dish was tasty and the quinoa was very buttery but I would've enjoyed just a tiny bit more flavor. I asked for their house hot sauce. It packed a very spicy kick and perfectly completed the dish. My friend had the aeropuerto and said it was delicious. For dessert, the butternut squash creme caramel was similar to crème brûlée. It was very rich but tasty. The pumpkin seeds added unique texture. We also enjoyed the ponderaciones. This dish was creamy yet airy with a very crunchy parfait topping. To drink, I had the Chicha. It was sweet but nicely balanced by the tangy passionfruit, with a good amount of alcohol. Overall, I definitely recommend a visit!

The food was fine, small portioned and pricey. Service was a bit disappointing. For a restaurant of this price, the waiter kept bugging us in the beginning about drinks. We starting feeling uncomfortable saying we were fine with just water. We had a birthday so we brought a cake. Most places would cut the cake for free. I guess it was not the case for here. That's fine, but initially the waiter said $10 and we were like okay yeah. When our bill came, we were charged $60 for cutting the cake. They then changed their statement to saying it was $10 per person. This was not communicated early, but also what store even does this. They were just terrible at communicating, they asked if we wanted fries or rice when we ordered the steak, it was never on the menu so we assumed it was complimentary with the two steak we got. We got fries and rice each. Only when the bill came did we get charged $8 for rice and $14 for fries. Yikes Anyways we were looking forward to this place, but a disappointment it turned out to be

Enjoyed a lovely dinner here, first had the Pisco sour and the margarita to drink. The pisco sour was excellent and would definitely recommend again. To eat had the burger and the steak frites. The steak was cooked at a medium rare, we asked for the burger as medium well but it came out medium rare. The service was excellent from checking into our reservation and the waiter being informative of the menu.

I went to Peru this summer and was truly moved by the pisco sour drink, I've been in search for some good pisco sour since. I landed in Popular. Such a wonderful ambience. I am huge on dim lights because it brings a warm and welcoming vibe. Let's get into the food. The ceviche (truly any ceviche on the menu) is delicious. The service was excellent and we were visited by the chef who was on the floor that day. It was truly and incredible experience. The shrimps were cooked to perfection and the special sauce was tart and sweet met with the perfect texture of the crusted shrimp. To die for. I really enjoyed the food and i would definitely come back.

The environment was beautiful and the waiter was very attentive, however the food was very disappointing. The salmon was too salty and not enough flavor, the oysters were not fresh, and the ceviche was also very much lacking in flavor and freshness. I loved the beautiful decorations and the pretty vibes but the food really needs to improve to match everything else!!

Cute tropical looking restaurant inside a hotel. It's a great restaurant for dates or catching up with friends. However, the food and service does need a lot work. We went for a friend's birthday and was really disappointed. Brunch Food - my friends and I ordered the ceviche, chicken egg sandwich, eggs Benedict and French toast. Everything was mediocre at best but super pricy. The sandwich was very plain and lacked flavor, the eggs Benedict and yuca fries were salty, the French toast was good but really sweet (we even asked for syrup on the side) and ceviche was tiny with few pieces of fish and octopus for ~ $30. Service - the service was very slow maybe because the restaurant was so empty.

    Sha S.

Very overpriced with lack of service and poor presentation of food. You'd expect a better plate of Eggs Benedict than the picture I posted here.. guess how much? $28! For that! The restaurant was really empty for brunch on a Saturday (as you can see). We received our food probably 30-40 minutes after we ordered. Giving 2 stars simply for the aesthetic and the accommodating waiters (we were able to substitute pork for salmon and fruit) and the yummy iced lattes (which aren't listed or priced on the menu so make sure you ask how much before they charge you an arm and a leg for some coffee and milk). Pass. You're in LES, there's load of other places to eat at.

One of my most interesting dining experiences to date. Mi madre was in town and staying at the Public, so she asked if I wanted to meet her for dinner. Easy call. We walk in, and I immediately feel like I'm back in LA with a few "influencers" taking pictures all over the gaff. No shade, just facts. Anyways, we sit down and my mom immediately says "I feel like I'm in the Amazon." Still not too sure if that was good or bad, but I personally LOVED the interior of this place. They immediately served this little Peruvian nuts that were a great little app. We ordered the Ceviche, Sea bass, the bib lettuce, and a steak. The Ceviche was otherworldly, quite frankly some of the best I have ever had in these beautiful 27 years. The bib lettuce was also phenomenal, would recommend it to everybody. The sea bass however, came out cold. I will never lie to my fellow yelpers and to be really honest I thought it was supposed to be served chilled. Mother asks the waiter "Is this supposed to be cold?" I put my head in my hands and internally was saying "mom we look so dumb even asking this OBVIOUSLY it's supposed to be cold." I was wrong. It was supposed to be served hot smh. So that sucked but they took it off the bill. I get it, sh*t happens. BUT, after a significant amount of time waiting for our steak, the pièce de résistance, one of the managers comes out with her tail between her legs. "I'm sorry but we forgot to put the steak order in I'm not really sure what happened, but it does take about 30-40 minutes to cook..." Pain. So that was a bummer, but to her credit she still handled it the best she could. On a positive note, these were some of the best cocktails I have had in NYC. The Pisco and Raspberry Spritz were life changing.

Popular! You're gonna be popular! Or at least more popular than before if you bring your compadres, dates, in-laws, etc. to this gorgeous indoor jungle and drop serious dinero for some rather tasty upscale Peruvian fare. I personally think the Terrace at the Edition Hotel is the most beautiful restaurant in the city, so I figured Popular had to have the same design team. Yup, Ian Schrager designed both--and it shows. Every photo is a postcard. As with the Terrace, the food and drink here are pricey but great quality. Try the Ceviche Clasico to benchmark against Peru's most famous dish, or the equally delicious--though smaller-portioned--Ceviche Nikkei for some of that Japanese fusion. The Sticky Prawns were also delicious. But dessert and drinks are where they truly shine. The Chirimoya (sic) Meringue was the stuff of my South American dreams, all creamy custardy as cherimoya should be. And the Lucuma Truffles were the next best thing to finding this rare South American fruit wholesale, especially when encased in classic dark chocolate (the way chocolate was meant to be, Europeans). As for drinks, the Pisco Sour is done to perfection and might just be the best one I've had in this city. Service was friendly and attentive, but painfully slow at parts. Not sure why, as they were barely 10% full for most of our meal on a Thurs night. Though the place did start to pick up by ~8pm. The slow service was the one bad point of the night.

I enjoyed my time here. A friend and I came for dinner. I'm always fascinated with ceviche or crudo . We went with a shrimp and fluke crudo , delicious. For entrees we chose sticky prawns with chow mein, and a paella. Both were very well prepared. Love the ambiance here and service was great .

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.

The Clover Club and Gimlet were both perfectly executed, and my husband tried three different whiskey cocktails throughout the evening and loved every single one.
