Y'all. It's good to come home. I've not been on this island since 2017 and this place was new to me. Hopping at 7p on a Sunday, but still we found a picnic table to eat at with the fam after ordering our food. Our kids each got waffles (with syrup!) and fries (the chicken is batter fried and wasn't my 6yo's fave but was excellent for us grownups). The adults split a grilled shrimp platter and Caesar salad (and each had Amber Abita beers--there were 6 drafts on tap) with pimento cheesy grits (omg) and flash Brussel sprouts (dear goodness). So many options in small St. Simons but we chose Porch because we had heard about it from the TV show Dives, Diners, Drives. When you approach the restaurant you can see lots of picnic tables surrounded by a picket fence. There are a few mounted fans outside which was a little helpful to move the air around on this hot day. Inside there is wraparound type of porch that is closed in. There are a few fans there but it was super hot in there. We then walked inside to the actual restaurant & there were a few high top tables and a wooden banquet in back. This is an order at the counter type of place where you get a #, display it at your chosen table & wait til your food is delivered. We chose to sit outside after much deliberation because it was hot all over. I chose the chicken tenders which comes with 2 sides. For my sides I got coke slaw and pimento grits. I asked for medium spice on the tenders. There were 3 large well seasoned tenders cooked perfectly. They came with a choice of dipping sauces. I chose the honey mustard. My Cole slaw was very good but for me the star was those grits! They were excellent. My dining partner chose chicken tacos. He liked them but didn't think they were outstanding. He chose collards as his side & said they were very good. Another in our party needed a gluten free option. The only one was a salad with grilled chicken. The salad was in a large bowl with some nice sized strips of grilled chicken. She said it was a fresh tasty salad. The only negative about sitting outdoors were the constant flies around our food. The food was amazing. If you like chicken this is it! The heat really heats so if your going for the medium heat thinking your probably in the clear tho k twice bc it's a bit hotter than you expect. The three jumbo strips were big enough for two in my opinion. The street corn did not really hit the mark but everything else was amazing. Must try and very laid back atmosphere. We loved this place! I have been going to St Simons every year for a very long time. I remember when this place first opened, but have always been hesitant to try it. Not that it looked bad, but when I come here, I tend to go to my favorite seafood spots. Never really in the mood for fried chicken at the beach. BUT HOLY COW. Porch is now one of our favorite restaurants to visit. Actually came back two days in a row. I got the Big White with the novice heat. Definitely too much food for me but man did I try to finish it. The Mac and cheese is perfect, coleslaw is great. Best fried chicken I have ever had. We also loved the frosé. Very refreshing in the 90° heat. We played connect four and cornhole on the "lawn" after eating. Service was also fantastic, everyone was so sweet and welcoming. Chicken is great, great heat and flavor, the corn was a grilled and tasted perfect with the smokey grill/fire flavor. My daughter and I were shopping at the consignment shop across the street and decided to give the Porch a try. You order inside at the counter and they give you a number for your table and bring out the food. The food came out hot and the chick had an amazing crunch to it. I had the pimento choose grits with mine and my daughter had the Mac and cheese. Both were amazing and we could have eaten more of them. We were able to sit outside as they had heaters set up. Fresh and delicious food, sweet southern service, in a laid back and relaxed environment. Porch is a must visit on your visit to St. Simons. Parking may be tricky as the lot is small, but with the quick service, a spot is bound to free up fast. Stepped inside and placed our order at the counter, where a presumed local or frequent customer advised everything on the menu is delicious. The young lady behind the counter recommended the fried chicken and explained the sauce options; naked, novice, Nashville, and napalm. Opted for the novice which had a nice bearable kick to it. The napalm was explained to be similar to the "one chip challenge"; extremely spicy. The spinach salad was fresh, filling, and the perfect combination of spicy fried chicken with your serving of greens. The frose was stronger than expected, but unfortunately quickly melted in the outdoor Georgia heat. The outdoor seating, not under the porch provides picnic style tables with access to large lawn games of Jenga and connect four. We visited while traveling to SSI and we were so impressed! We loved everything about this gem! Customer service: the hostess was very friendly when we walked in and helped us out immediately with how to order and where to go. The cashier was very helpful and patient as it was our first time in and the crowd was huge! The girl who brought us our food was so quick to delivering it to us, and do so with a smile and thanked us for stopping in! We stayed until it was about to close and the kids helped clean up the play area and the sweet hostess gave them free ice cream for it! They are top notch here! Food: we had two Catfish plates; one with Mac and cheese and grits, the other with Mac and cheese and tots. The Catfish was fried really well and served hot and crispy!! We ordered chicken finger baskets with fries and Mac and cheese and the kids loved it. They ate it all. We also ordered a basket of the smothered queso tots and they were SO GOOD!! For dessert we got both the pudding and the ice cream cookie sammiches! Both were delicious but the sammich was [chef's kiss]. The cookie was soft and buttery and just complemented the ice cream so amazingly! Don't skip on them, they're to die for!! Scene/vibe: okay we love any dining place that feels like a community! We literally talked with so many locals and played with their kids! You can tell they all love their island and community! We also LOVE when a restaurant thinks of all the details, and includes things for kids! Out in the green they had Jenga, Connect Four, and corn hole! Listen, we will always find a place with cornhole LOL! The kids got to stretch out and run a bit and play and it made dining so much more pleasant. It's the little things like this that will always have is returning. We didn't have any trouble with parking, but it does fill up quick at the actual restaurant. You may need to walk just a block up after parking on the street but it's a beach/pier area and everyone is walking and sightseeing or going to the shops so very standard! There are four ways to enjoy this food- takeout, inside seating, porch seating, and outside seating! Overall 10/10 experience and we will DEFINITELY be back on our next visit! Finally got around to trying this Nashville Hot Chicken restaurant on St. Simons Island while home for the weekend. There is outdoor seating with a great area for kids to run and play, as well as outdoor/screened in seating & indoor seating. There is limited seating for large groups, but you can always pull up chairs to tables. You order at the register and they bring it to your table, and the service was fairly quick. It was a friendly environment with good food that I would go back to. Hot Chicken Caesar Wrap w/ side of Mac & Fries ($15): 7.5/10 I enjoyed this wrap. It was a good portion and I did not feel like the chicken was lacking. I ordered the flavor novice, and it had a good flavor. I think the wrap could have had a little more caesar dressing. Visiting the island and tried a casual dinner at Porch. If you're much of a fried chicken eater, there's not that many options here so I opted to try their wrap and I'm really glad I did actually! Got it in the novice flavor which definitely had a little kick to it but it wasn't that bad honestly. I saw some reviews saying the wrap was dry but I didn't have that problem at all. It was actually very well seasoned and I opted to get a side of ranch which added a nice touch to it. I ordered the side of mac and cheese and that was the only thing that I said was subpar. Not my favorite but it wasn't too bad. Wish it was a bit cheesier. I also ordered there $5 frose and for the size and strength of it, I think it was a great deal. Oh parking was a bit of an issue if you're not familiar with the area. There's a small lot attached but it seems to get rather full quickly. We opted to park at one of the local businesses near by but be sure to read signs to ensure it's not private parking. There's a lot of businesses to choose from so I'm sure you'd fine something. I'm not sure if this place is new, or we've just missed it before? But glad we stumbled upon it this trip! This is a "order at the counter, we'll bring your food out" restaurant. Self serve sodas, they do serve alcohol and a good sized menu. We tried the fried shrimp, pimento grits, Mac and cheese and catfish tacos! You can get heat added to any meat. I reaaaaaallly enjoyed my sides. Shrimp was good, but nothing special. My husband enjoyed his tacos! He added some remoulade. As in any good chicken shack stand in line get chicken find a seat and eat, staff was patient and knowledgeable. My wife and I shared a big dark, deep fried quarter not pieces, one of the top five chicken I've eaten so flavorful so moist. Also had greens has an after taste that makes you say wow. Yum! What a great place to get lunch before or after the beach. It is dog friendly, but only on the outside (you might have to wait for a seat. We sat outside and the waitress bright a bowl of water for the pup, super sweet! They also forgot to give us Mac and cheese (we got double cole slaw) but they quickly rectified the error and we got the keep the extra Cole slaw. *score* Don't be fooled! We were SO FULL off of our food options. The Nashville hot was perfectly battered and fried - pretty spicy, so beware! And the fried catfish was boneless- thank goodness :) The Mac n cheese (not pictured) was so creamy! And baked beans were sweet and well cooked. I'd love if they had a hot honey sauce for the chicken- but either way the food is good! It does seem to get packed, and the parking lot is a very tight fit.
