Porta never disappoints! After a great walk in the boardwalk, a friend and I headed over to Porta for lunch. She had the pizza with Brussel sprouts and I had a kale salad. Both were delicious, came quickly and were served with a smile. I was surprised at how crowded it was for a weekday lunch- on weekend nights it's packed, but I guess it's just always crowded-with good reason. In season Porta has great outside seating as well, which is great. Plus, if you're lucky enough to be there while The Stone Pony has an outdoor concert, you get a bonus! I did not know it when I walked into Porta, but this restaurant is one of a handful credited with the culinary revitalization of the Asbury Park area. However, after my meal I could totally see why that was the case! The interior of Porta is a giant warehouse sized space with tons of tables. Off to the side is a large outdoor tent, expanding the dining space by quite a bit. With bulbs hanging off strings over the bar area and old doors lining one wall, the space has a rustic and industrial feel all at the same time. The place was only about 40% full when I went so the noise level was not overwhelming. Our waitress was very efficient. She was quick to take our drink orders and was back in no time to take our food orders. She checked on us just enough times as to not be obtrusive to conversation. So what did we get? Here's the rundown: MEATBALLS (hand-rolled daily, Pecorino Romano, parsley, San Marzano tomatoes) The appetizer order has three meatballs in it. They are a good size and tasted fresh with a good amount of sauce. That said, I did find myself wishing they had a bit more seasoning (in contrast, the meatballs at Raymond's in Montclair are full of flavor). Not a bad dish and I'm glad I tried them. SUMMER BETTY PIZZA (goat cheese, mozzarella, Jersey heirloom tomatoes, garlic, thyme, extra virgin olive oil) This pizza was fantastic! Full of flavor, a soft crust with crispy edges and very fresh tasting ingredients on top of the crust. Even better, all the ingredients held together on top of the pizza slices. Sure you had to fold a bit, but it is always a bit sad when a pizza falls apart on you, but that did not happen here. I would absolutely get this pizza again! BROCCOLI RABE (pistachios, golden raisins, capers, olives) If you had told me one of my favorite dishes here would be the broccoli rabe I wouldn't have believed you, yet here we are. I was absolutely floored by how good this dish was. The rabe was cooked perfectly, but the addition of the pistachios, raisins, capers and olives just took things to another level! I'm not even that big of an olive fan but in this dish they worked brilliantly. Definitely get this dish if you visit. Porta was my first stop on my introduction to Asbury Park and it was a wonderful introduction to the area. I very much look forward to my next visit to Porta! read more

If you're looking for Italian with a hipster attitude Porta is the place. Trendy warehouse serves rustic Italian dishes and brick oven pizzas with a flare. Tables are family style and be aware it's very loud but that's all part of the experience. The staff is super nice, knowledgeable and attentive. Cheeses are homemade and to die for. I had the fresh mozzarella and and appetizer of meatballs. This was the perfect combination in a nice thick sauce accompanied by a basket of bread. This one of my favorite spots to in Asbury. Whether it be for lunch, dinner or just late night shenanigans on the weekends. This is the place to be. I love coming here for lunch. My usual go to dishes are the grilled octopus, and the meatballs. They also have amazing pizza. I usually order the Italian stallion and the 141/2 pie. This place has a chill atmosphere and never disappoints with the food. I do recommend that if you come for lunch during the spring and summers that you come by 1 pm before it gets super packed. The food is so good that we came back two nights in a row! The place is always packed, and that's how you know it's good. The cocktails are strong, the beer and wine list is huge, and everything on the menu is fantastic. The mozzarella is made fresh every day, and is wildly refreshing as an appetizer. I also really loved the meatballs, you get 3 in an order, and I could have eaten them as an entree by themselves if my table didn't eat them all first! (The mozz also tastes AMAZING dipped in the leftover marinara from the meatballs) Both nights we got pizza and pasta to share. Our favorite was the bootzin pasta, which was cappelini with sausage and green olives in a spicy red sauce! We wlso loved the Italian Stallion pizza, which had sausage and long hot peppers on it. We asked for the peppers on the side because we were already getting the spicy pasta, and it was fantastic both ways. The meatball pizza and the margherita pizzas are also good. The pizzas come out quick, which means they are cooked on a higher temperature in their brick oven. This makes the dough pretty soft but a little burnt, just as an FYI. It bothered my boyfriend a little bit, but the rest of us loved it. On my mom's birthday we also ordered the fried pizza dough with powdered sugar and it was very good! I decided to check out the Porta in Asbury Park because I've only been to the JC location. The restaurant has a cool vibe with plenty of picnic tables and a bar near the pizza oven. We started with the Bibb salad and homemade mozzarella. Both were great. I was surprised by how good the Bibb salad was. The apricot vinaigrette took it to another level! My friend and I decided to split the winter betty pizza as well as the pomodoro and Monday night gnocchi. We really enjoyed the food here and also received fantastic service, but the ACOUSTICS WERE SO DEAFENING that we found it difficult to enjoy much of our meal. We didn't have a reservation, so a 30 minute wait was well-spent on the boardwalk, which is only a block away. It's communal picnic table seating, which isn't our favorite, but so be it. We were there with a couple friends and got the three trees salad to start, which came out, like, five minutes after we put the order in. The portion was generous and while it was nothing uber special, it was a great healthy start to the meal. Same with the margherita pizza--if you've had a decent neapolitan pizza in your life, then you've had this one. But no complaints. The meatballs were surprisingly moist and tasty, and we only wish that they came out with a couple slices of bread to mop up the sauce with. Our kiddo loved them. The whole branzino was a showstopper--the herbs and lemon shone through and it was cooked to perfection. We're terrible at serving ourselves pieces without bones, however, so we would have preferred to have had an assist with that! They bring out a small complimentary soft serve for kids, and our daughter was thrilled to find herself with a chocolate one out of nowhere. When mom asked for a vanilla, our server--a very hip young feller--brought her one on the house. Grazi! We're tempted to take a star off because of how freakishly loud it was here (seems like it would be an occupational hazard TBH), but we had a pleasant time despite all having to shout at each other. 3.5 stars, rounding up. We were regulars - back in the day (2012). Then the pizza became less than it was. Then the value equation stopped making sense - too little yum for the $$$. I simply stopped going. However, my wife was still a fan. So, when we need a Monday afternoon lunch that was close, I gave in, and we went to Porta for lunch. Simply put, they got nothing right and the bartender should find another line of work. Initial pizza order was wrong. A subsequent pizza order was doomed to be returned because of an inexcusable omission in the pizza's description. A third pizza took entirely too long to prepare, and we took it with us. And, yeah, I might like another beer - but no one asked. So, extremely poor service, dirty taps and/or glassware and a general lack of competence makes this a "done forever" experience. The only reason why I am giving this place 2 stars is because they're very clean, and organized with their front of house staff. The service was okay, but small details were missed. For example, we had a reservation for 8 and were sat at a table obviously set for 6. We had to ask for more chairs 2 times, as well as more silverware and plates. The drinks were NOT good. I didn't like my first one which was the blood orange spritzer (very tart), had to send it back. Then I had to ask to get it taken off the bill at the end of the meal. The second drink I had was the strawberry lemonade one, and it was fine, but nothing to write home about. Just very "blah". The food was both my to call home about either. The cheese platters were HILARIOUS. I have never seen a more bare cheese plate in my entire life. It had legit like 2 pieces of cheese on it, a couple slices of bread, some almonds and a tiny bowl of mini pickles. The pickles from a jar were the best part of the platter. We had a few pizzas to split at the table, and they were so small- ridiculous for the price you are charged. Maybe it's the fat American in me, but gosh they got some tiny ass portions. We had a regular pizza (it was alright), and a prosciutto pizza, which was tasty, but very salty. I was super excited to order the lemon ricotta pancakes, as well, but when I got them they turned out to be legitimate cake. To start off, this is not about the restaurant/dining experience! This is in regard to my experience during the "club" hours. I would like to say that this past Friday was probably the worst I've ever seen Porta. The music was not terrible, but the DJs were okay at best, they need new ones imo. Then, there were two incidents that I witnessed where their barback and bartender were extremely rude to my friends (and myself but mostly to my friends). First was my best friend's first time being there and probably her last. We had ordered drinks from the bar on the restaurant side, that is separate from the club side. I asked my friend if she can get me a napkin, and when she asked the barback, he assumed she wanted a drink and just dismissed her without hesitation until she had to loudly let him know she only wanted a napkin. He then hands her the napkin with an attitude and his back turned to her. Another incident (maybe an hour after the first one), where my girlfriend went back to the bar to ask the bartender with a buzzcut for a napkin too, and he was EXTREMELY rude to her. He was finishing ringing someone up, then went to my girlfriend and she asked for a single napkin, and he brought multiple. She kindly let him know she only needed one and as she's grabbing a single one from the stack in his hand, he snatches his hand back like he didn't want her touch him (she wasn't), drops the napkins, and walks away. I watched the whole interaction and decided to confront him for being rude. I pretend I'm there to order and he comes up to me, to where I then let him know I saw that whole interaction and he was being extremely rude to my girlfriend. He clearly didn't care because mid conversation he walks away from me. I then go up to the security guard and let him know which bartender was disgustingly rude. He didn't know who the bartender was, but after hearing the story he affirmed my distaste, but it was out of his hands. Not sure what's the issue with this establishment and napkins, but the overall energy given was that we weren't welcomed (I would say racist, but it is worth to mention other staff weren't rude at all). Maybe if that was an isolated incident, I could shrug it off as rude staff, but the people they let in gave a similar energy. During the night while socializing/dancing in a circle group setting on the dance floor, a guy who was already visible drunk and bumping into me, grabbed my girlfriend's head, shook it and tried to take her hat off. He tried to wander off and she took his hat, and he went back to his group. She returned it and came back to me which was the portion of the interaction I saw and when she explained the interaction to me, I went to confront him. She stopped me and said she handled it. A few moments later he was being escorted out. I assume he started messing with someone else and got himself kicked out. The kind security was the only props I can give this place, and probably the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. read more

Stop in for happy hour on Friday. Lovely restaurant in Asbury Park. I sat at the bar and had the signature happy hour drink called the spicy blood orange margarita. It was so refreshing. Loved it! I also tried the meatballs. The were very good but did not come out hot. That's my only pet peeve. Food must be steaming. I was too starved to send them back to reheat. lol. I have never been here before and I was sorry I didn't come sooner! I met a big crowd of family and friends for brunch here. We had a huge very long table all together. My Aunt contacted the restaurant ahead of time and the staff was wonderful with the accommodations with our size of party. I am not a beer drinker and immediately look for ciders that they have on tap. I asked the waitress what cider they had and she recommended one that was in a can they had and the one on tap. I wish I remembered the name but it was the only one on tap that she said was very good. So I chose that. It was very good! It came in a perfect tall beer mug glass that was chilled. I like any alcohol drinks colder the better and this was served nice and cold. Our table ordered a variety of items between breakfast and lunch options on the brunch menu. All the food was excellent. I had the pizza with mushrooms and goat cheese. My Mom had bacon egg and cheese on a roll. Both were served hot and very good. Their pizza is the perfect size for just one person ordering it but big enough if you wanted to share. The banana and olive oil bread was so good with butter. We were here in the summer of 2020 and had a good covid experience where we had an outside table on the sidewalk, with heaters and masks by servers and staff. We returned in Nov to a really bummer of an experience. We used their website to make a reservation, and it allowed us to specify inside or outside. We selected outside. When we arrived there were many tables along the sidewalk. A lot of them were empty or just needed to he wiped clean. We spoke to the hostess and we were escorted to a table in a tent. I asked the hostess to seat us outside because we had a reservation for "outside". I was told, I'd have to get on wait list for a sidewalk tables, because according to them, sitting in a sealed tent with walls is outside. I am deeply disapponted in this. Why bother asking me to specify inside or outside on the reservation sheet if we'd just he placed inside an enclosed tent. This is not outdoor according to the dept of health. read more
