One of the most exquisite meals I've had in years. The risotto was a lesson in risotto. The pork chop may have been the best I've ever had. I like that they challenge you by cutting off the meaty bone ... do you pick it up and devour all remaining shreds of meat or not? Of course I did! Came by for dinner the other night and it was a world class experience. Made a reservation online and my table was ready upon arrival. The online reservation e-mail indicated that all dining is indoors and I was surprised to see outdoor sidewalk and parklet dining... The main entrance is also odd, via a side alley...felt like a service entrance... There were also anomalies with the dress code. OpenTable mentioned that it was business casual whereas Yelp mentioned it was casual. ...the environment was definitely more business casual, although the staff were dressed in a casual uniform. Visited the restaurant during restaurant week and felt that the restaurant week menu felt a touch too pedestrian. My waiter suggested the scallop and corn appetizier aong with the pappardelle with mushrooms and truffles as specials. The scallops were excellent! The scallops were perfected seared with a side of some very fragrant corn. This was a special, not listed on the menu. The pappardelle pasta was also excellent. The mushrooms were very fragrant, along with the black truffle. The fresh pappardelle pasta was also cooked to a perfect al dente! Ended the meal off with a passionfruit mousse which was excellent. Excellent flavors, not too sweet, and a generous portion. Service by the staff was quick and efficient. My friend and I had only intended to have a couple drinks and ended up having quite a filling few dishes, best recommended by the staff and close friends of the staff. Recently got to try portale and it was a great time! The service was quick and we got seated very fast. Our waiter was very nice. Additionally the decor and ambiance of the place was very standard for a higher end restaurant. As for the food we ordered the crisp and the polpo for the table. Both were very refreshing and delish! The polpo was cooked very well so that it wasn't chewy. For entree I got the salmon which looking at the color was a bit pale but the flavor was there. It was cooked exactly to medium rare as I had asked for the and the veggies and sauce it came with was so delicious and worked well ell to cut through the fattiness of the salmon. For dessert we got the fried dough balls which work so warm and fluffy. I also got the cheesecake which was sweet but not too sweet and because it was a ricotta cheesecake it was still light and airy!!! What a lovely atmosphere. I so wanted to enjoy a good meal when I ate there last week after all the good reviews. I had the halibut which, when fresh and cooked properly, should be flaky and melt in your mouth texture. The one I had at Portale was chewy. For $46 for this entree, I assumed it would have been one of the best and tastiest halibut preparations. Also had the olive oil cake for dessert - it was ok. There was a group of six of us back in September during NYFW. We found Portale to be quite convenient being directly across the street from the venue where we were for a few fashion shows. We had time between shows and decided to check them out. We were all seated at the bar and were immediately told about their Happy Hour. We ordered a couple bottles of wine and a few cocktails, along with several small plates. The entire staff was incredibly welcoming & friendly. What an experience! I was here for a 50th birthday party where the host booked the private room (located on the second floor). The experience from arrival, coat check station, to the use of the elevator, to the dining room service, everything exceeded expectations. The staff was hospitable and each time someone asked for something, they responded quite promptly and handled the requests with care. What was impressive too, was how they managed the folks with food allergies and accomodations for the more discerning palates. They made an effort to please and it showed, even when at times, they couldn't. The menu for this private party was pre-selected by the host, but allowed for guests to pick amongst categories. I personally have a shrimp allergy and one of the appetizers contained shrimp. They considered a workaround in which I asked if they could just leave the shrimp out, the waitress said she would ask the kitchen. However, since it was mixed in as an ingredient, it was not advisable to serve it to me. I appreciated the honesty and it just made more sense to choose the other option. Upon entering the private room, tables were set up in two long rows, each side for 20 people. The table was surprisingly comfortable and we didn't knock elbows. The menu was a preset prix-fixe arrangement of appetizers, first plate, main and then dessert. They even had the birthday person's name printed out on each menu. Very nice! "A" for effort and elegance. Guests were greeted with glasses of prosecco or their choice of red/white wine the minute we entered. (Coat check was already taken care of when we entered on the first floor). I learned there were a few dining plans so you can choose based on your budget or if you have smaller appetites vs larger. I should mention, given the restaurant has two floors - main dining on the first floor and private room on the second. Restrooms are located on the second floor and there are multiple rooms at that. All are non-gender specific so it is quite convenient to keep the lines moving. Elevator access for those who need or if you prefer, use the stairs. It is well lit and has beautiful decor. I'd definitely come back for a date night, foodie group dinner or a night on the town. The $$$ plan would be for those willing to pay a little more for a fine dining experience. Both pasta dishes were delicious - highly recommend! The Cowgirl Steak was incredible. Cooked to a perfect medium, the outside was slightly crisp, and the mashed potatoes were fluffy, light, and went well with the gravy. Unfortunately, the Funghi didn't come out with the Cowgirl Steak so it was less enjoyable alone as a side rather than with this dish. All 3 desserts were well-made and not overly sweet. Lobster mafaldine pasta - after eating this dish, I just became their number one fan. Out of this world. The dish came in hot and stayed warm until I licked everything on the plate. It looks like it's a small portion but, looks deceive ya! To be fair, I could've stopped half way but I couldn't stop eating it- it was sooooo yummy!!!! Bit of a kick and pasta cooked to perfection. It was Al Dante but wasn't under cooked and cooked thoroughly. The flavor was so well balanced with the lobster and did not taste the any fishy smell from the lobster. Of course this is way more elevated but if I had to compare the sauce to something, it would be spicy vodka sauce. The consistency of the sauce is enough with the portion. You can think there's not enough and it's not drenched with sauce (this is what I thought of) BUT! It was just the right amount throughout the meal. Service was alright - staff wasn't friendly nor rude. The bartender wasn't the friendliest but did not give me any issues. Ambiance is very cozy and warm. Great Italian place. I'm not sure if it's specifically Sicilian focused, but when we went they had special Sicilian dishes and discounts on Sicilian wines. The Burrata was the best that I have had in a while, with a firm outside and very creamy and delicious inside. The Frutti Di Mare was great as all the flavors blended well and it was not overwhelmingly fishy as many salads are. For pasta, we had a Lobster Special and the Lumache. Both were delicious, bu we enjoyed the Lumache just a little more. Simple, and not overpowered with Truffle flavor. For the mains, we had the Branzino and Maiale. The Branzino was perfectly made and amazing. But, I would not order the Maiale again. It was okay, but dry and felt dense. We finished with a Torta Di Olio, which was fine, but I don't love most cakes in general. Portale has been on my list for quite sometime, and I finally was able to pop in today ! I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but I definitely felt rushed by one bartender in particular. Anyways, the atmosphere of this location is very cute. Great for a date night or solo dining situation. For starters I recommend there polpette (meatballs), although I kept hearing everyone around me rave about the kale salad. For your main I definitely recommend there mafaldine. It had a nice little "kick" of spice to it and the pasta was perfectly al dente ! Also, the portions were great. When I first heard that Chef Alfred Portale was leaving Gotham Bar & Grill to open his own space, I instantly knew that I had to try it. Plus, one of my friends had raved about it, which only added to my enthusiasm. Unfortunately, it took me months to make it there, but I was so happy to finally try it recently. I checked in with the host and was told to grab a seat at the bar until my friend arrived. The bartender was extremely friendly and let me know that I had another 10 minutes before happy hour ended. During happy hour, their normally $18+ cocktails were only $14 when ordered at the bar. I also was able to transfer my check to my table, rather than having to settle the bill at the bar. While I am not typically a negroni fan, I was immediately drawn to their Primo Negroni, as it utilized Aperol rather than Campari, a substitution I greatly appreciated. The drink also contained Los Siete Misterios Mezcal, Punt e Mes (Italian vermouth), and orange. It was boozy, smoky, crisp, and neither too sweet nor too bitter. In fact, it was one of my favorite cocktails of all time! My friend arrived, and we were seated in the classy, modern dining room. Our server stopped by, excused herself for interrupting our conversation, and politely asked if we were ready to order appetizers. We told her we need a few minutes, and she perfectly managed her cadence going forward. When we did order, she had asked if we wanted some bread. I had thought that it was complimentary, but realized it was likely the one listed on the menu for a small fee; I had forgotten to check the bill to make sure. Either way, the house-milled, whole grain loaf was AMAZING! The rustic bread had a fluffy dough inside, while the crust was crunchy and topped with crispy baked oatmeal. It was heavenly! Also, the thick bread was perfect for dipping into the Sunchoke Soup appetizer we each ordered. When the dish arrived, we were presented large bowls containing just a cylinder-shaped portobello custard, hon-shimeji mushrooms, and burgundy truffles. This allowed us to view the elegance of the earthy ingredients first. Then, the creamy broth was poured over them. Despite containing both butter and cream, the soup was rich in flavor (and likely calories!), but did not feel heavy. For my entrée, I selected the Ora King Salmon, which was served over a warm salad of Umbrian lentils, cauliflower, and brussels sprouts that were sautéed in red wine. My salmon was cooked to my requested medium temperature, but was unfortunately fishy-tasting and bland. The thin, long filet could have really benefitted from even some salt and pepper. The accompanying vegetables were good, but I thought the wine was too acidic and perhaps a mustard sauce would have been better. After our dinner, we decided to share a slice of Olive Oil Cake so that we could continue chatting. The massive piece of cake was served over a fig compote and was plated with vanilla gelato that was sprinkled with a biscotto crumble. The ice cream was delicious and tasted like sugar cookies. It was essential to have both that and the compote as parts of the dish, as they provided moisture to the overly dry pastry. While we scooped our forks through the cake, we occasionally located a wet ribbon of olive oil, but it was mostly just arid and crumbly. The dining room was packed with both young and old, but clearly only those up on the best restaurants in town. This was not surprising, due to their stellar service, seasonal menu, and largely good food. For these reasons, I would definitely return, but would opt for their pasta next time, which I since have heard constitute their top dishes. read more

We ordered quite a bit to start with drinks but we were then directed to order everything all at once. I didn't really appreciate that, but I definitely understand why. I would of like to have more time to go over the main dishes and we ended up ordering everything she recommended but I was not satisfied with those dishes. The Lumache, The Maiale and one other special with black truffles was okay, nothing amazing. The Brussels, polpette, polpo, crudo di tonno and even the pane di casa were chefs kiss, phenomenal dishes and I highly recommend trying. We ended off with dessert and had the torta di olio and bomboloni. Both excellent but a must have would be the torta di olio - it was decadent and rich. Great evening. New restaurant for me and I was looking forward to spending some time with a very good friend and enjoying one of his favorite restaurants. We started with the octopus as a starter and it was served on a savory bed of accompaniments which worked very well with the octopus and brought the tastes. We also had the buratta which was served with prosciutto and an accompaniment of various pickled vegetables. This worked well with the combination of the sour and acidic taste as well as the olive oil and vinegar accompanying the creamy texture well. The entrees we were made up of rhe halibut and the special which was the scallops. These were cooked to order and of course to perfection - the halibut had a lemon citric in the polenta and was spectacular - we had a couple of accompanyments of what was supposed to be broccoli but ended up being cauliflower along with Mushrooms The dishes were cooked perfectly and the scallops which were cooked to order were perfect. Our team was visiting in new york for an offsite and we came over for dinner. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance and also they have a decent bar and drinks menu! Before we seated we spent an hour at the bar and got some drinks. Once seated, the staff was quick in providing waters and noting our orders. We got all their dishes in the appetizers menu and must say everything was great.. from the octopus, polpette(meat balls), to the tuna tartar, salads and buratta. The buratta was one of the best I have had...very flavorful! For the main I got the duck and its one of the best I have had ever. It was made medium to rare and amazing warm and tender. The Christmas Eve dinner specials were incredible! Loved the filet mignon - cooked to perfection with the sauce and vegetables battling it out for first place. The Brussel sprouts are always my favorite - such flavor! The pear tart for two with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream knocked it out of the park. The bartenders are friendly, efficient and know how to prepare quality drinks. They also create amazing mocktails that are VERY close facsimiles of the originals. The ambiance is upscale trendy, with a private room on the second floor. The food is elegantly plated and very flavorful. The beet salad with goat cheese was great. Similarly the Crudo Di Tonno, Scallops, and Risotto were artful and flavorful. The Salmon was cooked as requested. The wine list is extensive and offers excellent options at all price ranges. So why not 5 stars? Too much spanish. Huh? When the staff learns a table has spanish speaking customers, they will switch languages and never return to english.
