Wow!! Went to Porterhouses Grill to celebrate my birthday. What an incredible experience! The service was great and the food even better. Now I am a carnivore of the first order and my bone-in ribeye was perfection. It was as good as any steak I have eaten and I have eaten more than my share. Our waiter, John, had several tables including a large group was very attentive but not intrusive. Prices aren't cheap but worth every penny. Only problem is finding another reason for a celebration so I will have an excuse to go back. Is next week "National Potato Week"??? read more

I reserved the back room for a corporate dinner event (50 people). We had an open bar and limited menu. I thought that they food was exceptional. We had passed appetizers, soup or salad, entree and choice of chocolate cake or cheesecake. The cheesecake was AMAZING. I'd highly recommend this location for a large group. read more

The Blue Filet is one of my favorites of all time and only $25. This is now my regular dinner spot when visiting Athens.

I've had two meals from here, a dinner and a lunch. The dinner, a steak, was 4 star quality; the lunch, a ground steak sandwich, was more 3.5 star quality; the average is 3.75 so I'll go with four stars. The service on the lunch was a little slow. Thank you Carla Butcher, the manager at Porterhouse for the worst dinning experience and ruining my wedding anniversary. We had a reservation at 930pm, we arrived early. The table was not ready, was told someone would clean it. We waiting for 30 minutes, with zero communication. Other guests arrived with reservations, and sat within minutes. When Carla finally felt we could be seated , I questioned her lack of communication. She then stated there was not enough staff to serve my husband and myself. Carla discriminates against her guests. She has poor people, communication, and manager skills. As a resident in Watkinsville Community, I will never speak highly of Porterhouse, and take my business elsewhere. I know your staff won't care. Proof of that statement was shown when the tall white kitchen manager was asked "who's to go order is this?", he answered with "who f#$king cares?". I know it was game weekend, but should the staff not be well prepared for the whirlwind?....... Week before my husband called to make a reservation, no one ever called him back. This restaurant is poorly managed. Raise your standards, don't except poor seevice, and take your hard earned money somewhere else. I don't even want to give one star. read more

Bruh this place is the bomb. Great beer selection. Bartender was very knowledgeable. I got the surf and turf. 7 oz filet and shrimp scampi. Came with mashed potatoes and green beans. My girlfriend and I went to Porterhouse Grill on Saturday night, the place was packed and there was a wait. The general manager Shawn found us when a table was available and sat us near the front of the restaurant near the bar. Perry our server did an outstanding job at coursing the meal out and everything was perfect. I will definitely go back and tell my friends to try this place when in Athens. Omg.. we walked in to the restaurant excited from reading the menu and reviews. The manager was nice talking and sitting us at a table, we sat down and the waiter walked up and asked if he can get us something to drink. I asked if they had Shocktop beer? He replied no. I asked if they had blue moon and he said no, we can play this guessing game all night but the answer is still no. He said look at the menu. I replied ah, ok. He told us about the special and my friend asked if it came with a crab cake and the waiter said no, you can't have the whole menu. Again shock. He kept going on with his comments so we got up and left. Manager asked us what the problem was so we told him and he said he never had that before. Great dining experience. 5 of us went to dinner on a Thursday without reservations and we were seated within 5 minutes. I had the flirt with blue cheese(rare) and it was cooked perfect!! Went for lunch. Got the burger and the steak and cheese sandwich. The burger came out raw (as in inedibly raw) and the fries were crumbs from the bottom of the basket. The steak and cheese with a caesar salad was very good. Place needs to improve its product quality and consistency. I had higher expectations, but then again, this is Athens. read more

Upscale eats. Try the fried oysters or the crab cakes. Both are delicious, and the sauce with the oysters is on fire! We came in for lunch when we were in town for the football games. Went for dinner after a game, food was average. I had the New York Strip Steak, meat was fatty and very tough. For what you get it is a little expensive, paid $4 for asparagus side and got 4 pieces. The service was just ok as they were very busy. read more

The surf and turf was so good. I am one that normally leaves food on my plate but I ate every bite! The filet was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The only negative was the amount of time it takes to get the check. It took 20 mins to get the check then another 10 mins for them to come back to process the payment. read more

They say start with the positive so I will. The food on the brunch buffet was hot and good. Everything else about our experience at Porterhouse was a disaster. Let's start with the odor walking to the bathrooms. Smelled like urine. Floors were sticky and the bathroom was dirty. we should have left right then. We had to ask our waiter two times for a drink menu and a drink. After waiting 15 minutes or so we got our drinks but one was the wrong drink. We had to ask for our water to be refilled. That's the number one rule of waiting tables. Keep the water glasses full. The tables on both sides of us remained dirty with dirty dishes our entire meal and the place was half empty. Thet ran out of one of the two desserts that were part of the buffet. Really? Several waiters and a waitress walked by our table several times and didn't notice or didn't care that we had dirty dishes on our table. I want to believe that our waiter was new because he had no clue but the whole restaurant? Get a grip people. Go to a restaurant like Houstons in Atlanta to see how a well-run restaurant does it. read more

Porterhouse is our favorite Athens steakhouse. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and hustling. Normally my husband and I enjoy just grabbing a couple seats and dining at the bar. Last night we had reservations for 6 at 930 pm...a Friday night of a game weekend. We had to wait for our table, but the staff can't make people finish their meals quicker. We watched a woman make a scene about not getting their table at their scheduled reservation and the staff handled it calmly and professionally. The staff was hustling and doing their best. We had great service, great meals and wonderful wine. We will continue to take our guests to Porterhouse to show them one of the best restaurants in town. read more

A group of us went there after a convention at the Classics Center. The food was fantastic. The crabcake had a lot of meat, and the New York strip was mouth-watering. I do love goat cheese though. Our waiter was hilarious! Wish it could have had a little more ambience though. read more

We got into town fairly late and we were exhausted. We ordered from Porterhouse Grill and had it delivered to our hotel. The food arrived fast, hot and packaged very well. We suddenly realized we would only have plastic knives to cut the steaks with, but our Bleu Filets were so tender, it was NO problem! The flavor was fabulous and the steaks were cooked perfectly (which doesn't happen often since we get one rare and one medium). The mashed potatoes were very good and so was the Crab Bisque. The only things we didn't love was the price and not getting the fresh bread I had read about in other reviews. Its a bit expensive for steak, as most places include a salad or soup with it. Overall, we are very happy and would definitely dine here again! read more

Been here twice so far. October 2012, or so was the first time. I guess it was OK, but nothing memorable. Food was decent and service was as well. Jump to May 2013. Prom night for local school, so the place was busy. Our party of 6 ordered apps and dinner, and it took forever to get served. When we got our food it was almost room temperature. It had obviously been sitting while our waiter got food out to the other groups. Even after asking for my steak to be re-heated, it was only medium warm. Service was a bit slow, the food was OK prep and flavor-wise, but served cool. We don't blow 250 bucks on dinner for 4 very often, but when we do, it's a hell of a lot better than this place. I don't think we'll be back. Athens has too many other restaurants to choose from. read more

My husband and I ate there Monday and it was fantastic! Food was spectacular and the service was exceptional. I can not recall the name of the server but we were the last table in ,typically I have always felt very rushed at the end of the night when dining at other locations, however this server did everything but that. We were in town for our daughters dance competition. Glad we found this place. We did not have a reservation but they worked Us in quickly and had us seated within 10 minutes. Food and service were great. My wife and I both had the filet special with the crawfish tails and it was nothing less than perfect.
