They regularly forget to leave out the pasta, so we always have to have them remake it. However, the last time they removed the pasta but also half of the other ingredients, like what?! They're always so nice about remaking it but it's just annoying to always have to go back up. The food itself is always solid - their chopped salad is delicious and large. The fries with cheese are also terrific and piping hot. My husband loves the Italian beef. Overall, it's a solid spot for dinner. read more

Ate at Portillo's in Brookfield and arrived early, thinking it would be packed on a Sunday morning before the Packer game. We ordered the Italian Beef and Sausage with sweet and spicy peppers. If I were to do it again, I'd go with just the Italian Beef-- the sausage was a bit overcooked for my taste. The French fries and onion rings were, as usual, amazing. I mean, who doesn't love crinkle-cut fries and crispy breaded onion rings? The employees were friendly, and the wait time was minimal. The only downside was that the restaurant itself felt pretty cold, especially with temperatures outside hovering around 50 degrees. First of all The best chocolate cake of any restaurant I've been to. Is very rich though if that's not your cup of tea. Lemon cake is an ehhh. Also give you a FREE birthday cake in your birthday. Wife always get the chili and she loves it. Like the Italian beef very much., but charging .99 for a couple pieces of green peppers is a little ridiculous. Been to Portillo's several times and have always been satisfied with the atmosphere, food, and service. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside. There are tables for different size groups. It can get pretty busy, but the sound level is quiet enough for conversations. This time came with some friends for lunch. Arrived right at noon, and the place was starting to get busy. Stood in line, which went pretty fast with three cashiers taking orders. Friendly greeting by the cashier and helpful with the order. You get a ticket with a number and wait for your call. Took about five minutes to get my Regular Beef Sandwich and Onion Rings. Everything was hot, had good flavor, and the portions were good. The beef is amazingly tender. Good flavor, but would have been even better if I had included some of the roasted sweet peppers -- next time! There are staff making sure the place is clean, constantly bussing tables, and wiping things down. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and seemed to enjoy what they were doing. I'm originally from the Chicago area and it's so nice to have a portillos in Wisconsin! The food is just as good here. We got food to go so I don't have much to say about the location itself or the service. But the food was incredible and they got our order right! Everything still tasted fresh when we got home. I'm not sure if they did this on purpose but they threw in a couple extra sauces which was a nice surprise. I'd definitely come back and eat in person or get to go again. read more

The last time I was here with my husband, our food was made so sloppily, that when we got it to the table and started to unwrap and dig in, we questioned whether the food before us was actually what we ordered. I moved to Milwaukee from Chicago almost 2 1/2 years ago. When the Yelp Elite event came up, I couldn't believe that I forgot there is a Portillo's up here! It has always been one of my faves. The event was fantastic. They had nice room set up for us. The managers were so informative. Definitely learned a lot about the company. They served all my faves - salad, Italian beef, hotdogs, French fries, chocolate cake. The two new things (new to me) that I tried were the meatballs and the pasta (the penne is only on the catering menu). Everything was so wonderful that I dragged my cousin back there a few days later. I had to order my fave - Italian beef (dipped w/sweet peppers) and fries. I was told to try the eclair cake. Oh. My. Gawd. Delicious! I couldn't do it all the time, but definitely a nice treat. Portillo's is definitely a weakness for me. I'm glad it's not right next door because I would be in trouble! read more

I was recently here on a Monday night with family, I forgot to take pics of the food I ordered. I really wanted to try the fish sandwich but was swayed to try the beef sandwich. I opted for sweet and hot peppers and got a small fry with cheese sauce. The fries are really good and you get a large portion with the small. Overall, I didn't find the beef sandwich to be anything spectacular so I may be the minority. It's very messy when you have the gravy, grab lots of napkins! Next time I'll try something else but my family seemed to enjoy it. The service was quick enough and they had a lot of people working although inside it wasn't busy. The restaurant is adorned with cute nostalgic decor and was clean with plenty of seating options. I opted to order at the kiosks but they have a counter to order at as well. I got the "party pass" and was honored to attend the Yelp elite event. I haven't been to Portillos in a few years and I was happy to be able to try so many delicious popular foods. The event started with the General Manager and staff greeting us and seating us in a some what private room toward the front. The night started off with the chop salad and hot dog. We had the option of making it a famous Chicago dog with so the fixings. The chop salad was so fresh with little pasta and scallions, it was delicious. Next up was meatball and cities with a red sauce. The meatball had a lot of flavor and a little parmeson on top. The famous roast beef sandwich was up with option of mild or hot peppers & au jou. . The staff told us all about the bread and how it should be soggy. It was so tender. Spicy chicken and cheese fries were on the table next. I normally don't like krinkle fries but that were cooked & salted perfectly. Just when you didn't have anymore room the wonderful staff brought out the chocolate cake. I took home because I was so stuffed. My family enjoyed the piece of cake as it was so moist. Looking for a late dinner and I love this restaurants food but sometimes the service is a challenge. Today was fantastic. My order was taken. I paid waited a few minutes in line and the food was ready and I was out of there less than five minutes. Typically this place is so busy that it's hard to get in.the food is a five service was a five value is a four because of the cost. My meal was just under 20 bucks. 1:00 on a Wednesday afternoon and I went inside to order. The host, Marshade was very nice and she set the happy tone for my visit. After placing my order of a salad, soda and hot dog, I waited just a minute for the hot dog to be ready. Then I waited at least 7 minutes for the salad to come out. Since there were not many people in line or in the restaurant I have to assume the line outside was taking up the time for my salad. After I got my food I enjoyed every bite of it all. The Chicken Pecan salad had huge pieces of chicken breast and it was wonderful. I like that the dressing is not put on the salad, but given in small containers for my use later. This must save the time but it is also nice to determine just how much I want to use. The food never fails. I am just surprised at how slowly the service is. Not horrible, but not what it used to be. My first impression as I'm walking up to the counter to order is "who is in charge here?" The person working at the cash register is slumped over the counter consumed with whatever is on her cell phone. There's a gentleman just behind her playing an imaginary basketball game with a wad of paper. The woman at the register didn't even lift her head once I arrived at the counter. She only looked up after the basketball player nudged her. Her response was to look at me. There was no greeting just a blank look. As I waited for my order I was amazed at the number of staff members standing around talking to one another. No one seemed to care about getting orders filled for the line of cars in the drive thru or customers inside. I know Portillo's from my visits to Chicago. One of the places I always go to when I'm in the Windy City. Was happy to see one here, as I drive around. Every time I pass there is always a long line at the drive thru, so I was hesitant to go. But inside it is not as busy, no long line, and I quickly ordered my usual: the beef sausage combo and the maxwell street. My number was called and I settled myself at the table to enjoy my meal. My brother was in town and wanted to grab a hot dog somewhere. So, a very fast food type of set up--but the atmosphere and seating are way better than your usual fast food type spot. As I mentioned, hot dogs aren't my go-to, so I opted for their chopped salad. It was a robust blend of lettuce (romaine and iceberg), pasta, diced chicken, bacon, tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese, green onion, and red cabbage tossed with their house made dressing. It's served with a chunk of bread on the side. Honestly, the salad was a solid good. Not the healthiest option (always searching for the healthiest option on any menu and strictly speaking, their caesar might have been a better choice) but it was filling and tasty. My brother raved about his hot dogs but I couldn't really speak to that as I didn't try! Oddly enough, our promotional cards had expired (didn't have an expiration date on them though), but the manager honored them and took care of our meal. I have been to several other Portillo's and always had good experiences. Today, I went through the drive-through and the employee that took my order was generally unfriendly. I asked for a hot dog, eclair cake, and an Arnold Palmer, specifying that an Arnold Palmer is half iced tea and half lemonade. I was told that they don't have that. I said I thought they did, repeating that it is half iced tea and half lemonade, and mentioned that at other Portillo's locations they recognize it as an Arnold Palmer. He grunted in agreement. The wait for my order was lengthy. After moving out of the drive-through lane and onto the road, I took a sip of my drink, which was Coke. I didn't want to take the time to go back so I went without a drink; I don't drink Coke. I noticed that. one receipt said, "small Palmer" and the other said, "Arnold Palmer," so they seem to carry it despite what I was told. Also, they put the hot dog and the cake in the same bag, which is not usual at other Portillo's locations. The cake was on its side when I got home, smashed against the side of the box. When I went back to the cashier window to explain, she gave me that look like what do you want me to do about it. Another guy behind the counter directed me to the pick up area and told me to tell the guy working there what was missing. I walked over to the pick up area and the guy behind the counter did not even acknowledge me. Finally I asked in a loud voice if this is where I was supposed to go to get my order corrected. I used to live in Chicago, moved to LA and on a trip to Milwaukee was looking forward to going to Portillo's. I know better now. While the food was good, the service was terrible. Terrible. This restaurant has really declined since it first opened. I went to the Brookfield location on a Sunday afternoon approximately 3:30 pm. There were a couple of people eating inside but it definitely was not busy. I placed my order and the young girl who was working the cashier was pleasant. She told me my my order number, circled it in my receipt and said it would be called out when it was done. I ordered a chocolate milkshake and she told me that would be given to me when my food was ready. I thanked her and went to where the orders were given to customers. Two young men were standing in the cake area doing absolutely nothing. Just staring into space without a care in the world. There were at least 7 workers in the food prep section. As I waited for my order I noticed the floor was absolutely filthy. Wrappers were strewn about and tables were not wiped down. With all the workers available it would have been easy for a couple to come from behind the counter and clean the dining area. Never happened. When my food was ready the young man called my number and handed me my bag. Never said thank you have a nice day nothing ! It was as if u was wasting his time by making him call a number. Another young man, however, who was standing next to him did thank me and told me to have a nice day. As the order was to go once I got to my destination I took it out of the bag and instantly regretted my choice of restaurant. The milkshake was supposed to be a chocolate shake but instead was a chocolate cake shake which was not what I wanted nor is it what I ordered. The French fries were over salted, cold, and a complete disappointment. The Chicago dog was the worst. For a reason I cannot fathom the bun was soaking wet. The hotdog was lites thrown together and was not appetizing at all. For the amount of money I paid for the food I could not eat or drink any of it. It was a complete waste of time.
