Having recently moved to Hilton Head Island I am anxious to find all my new favorite places to eat. Of course the food is the most important thing, however, the level and quality of service is also a factor. At Poseidon I started with the shrimp cocktail which came with a nice cocktail sauce with some horseradish on the side and another sauce that was good but didn't go as well as the traditional sauce. For the entree I had the seared scallops with roasted veggies with grits. I personally like my scallops really really seared (the only restaurant that has ever seared scallops perfectly to my liking was at the Cliff House in Maine which I highly recommend) but the overall flavors were very good and I enjoyed the food. The service however left something to be desired. It is really hard to describe what the problem was. My server somehow managed to never actually stop at my table. She literally just kind of threw words to me as she quickly walked passed my table like "you ready". Once she reached to take my appetizer plate as she whizzed by and I had to literally put my hands over it to keep her from swooping it away. As she was grabbing my plate she said "you done"?. I was not. I have never been served that the server did not at any point in the meal stop at the table, turn and face the table. It felt like I was being served by a conveyer belt. It was weird. I saw her stop at the table across from me where a man and a woman were dining. Perhaps it was because I was dining alone? I don't know. Bottom line is was a five star meal with three star service so I compromised at four. read more

We walked in to a fishy smell, which should have been our cue to leave, reservation or no reservation. The vibe of the restaurant was very nice, but laid back with a very open feeling. Our waiter was less than enthusiastic, although seemingly honest about certain menu items. I ordered the filet mignon, butterflied, medium well. My friend order the same, but well done. They mixed up our steaks. We simply swapped them out for simplicity sake. My shrimp topping was over cooked along with a weird after taste. The steak had ZERO flavor and that was with an Au Jus topping. The manager removed the meal without me having to ask and offered me another item, but I had no desire to try anything else at that time. The pros of the evening, they had excellent bread which warm when it was brought out and spreadable butter. The grapefruit mojito was tasty. Here's hoping their kitchen staff will do better and have the food match the great atmosphere of the restaurant. read more

Not sure why the lower stars. All the staff were wonderful. We had our little 11 week old with us and they were so nice with her. Had the pacific ceviche, which was awesome. Tried all four combo. A beautiful view awaits you on the patio. It's a wonderful spot for a Sunday brunch. We had a couple of quick appetizers and Bloody Mary's. The mussels were absolutely delicious and the margarita pizza was spot on with plump ripe tomatoes. The only thing lacking was the friendliness of the host. They looked miserable to be there and while our server was friendly, she never checked back to see if needed more drinks and only checked on our food when we were half way finished. This restaurant has the potential to be great, but they will need to give their servers less tables so they can give more attention to their customers. We are residents of HHI and have always taken out guests to Poseidon, this was our 6th visit for dinner. The line was long and our tele # was taken. After nearly an hour, I went back with the front desk to see if perhaps our number was incorrectly entered, (there were numerous open tables) they said it was correct and within 2 mins, our number was called. We received no bread, yet everyone around was getting a bread basket and historically we had always gotten one. I ordered the shrimp and grits and for $18 dollars I received 4 shrimp and these were not large shrimp. As we all know grits are cheaper than potatoes to prepare. The waitress told me that she would speak to the manger and have him come over, his response was for the waitress to tell me that 4 shrimp was their standard. My guest ordered the lowcountry boil and received a bowl of shrimp, potatoes, kielbasa and corn......not a lemon or tartar or shrimp cocktail sauce... When I asked we were able to get cocktail sauce. I spent way too much money for this kind of meal...I was so disappointed that this service was provided by A SERG Group restaurant. read more

Went to Poseidon for lunch this past Thursday and had a great time. Darrin was our server (Shout out to Darrin, it was a pleasure!) We took his recommendation on the oysters and got the hot crab dip as apps. Then I got the barramundi (YUM!) and my boyfriend got a shrimp burger and that patty was really tasty! As someone who is picky about seafood (probably annoying so), I was really impressed with their food. Also got to talk to the manager for a second and he was really kind as well. First time at Poseidon Coastal Cuisine in HHI. Great food and service from Lee is excellent!!! He is probably the best server we've had at any restaurant. I had the Mussels for dinner and my husband had the Seafood Trio. Both are delicious! We will definitely come back next we're in HHI. read more

Tried this out on our 10th yearly trip to Hilton Head. I had the Risotto and it was lovely, Hubs had some sort of gumbo which was also really good. The kids meals were ridiculously expensive my tweens had the surf and turf and for $15 it was a tiny cut of steak and only 4 shrimp, which we complained about and after a bit of back and forth about market value and shrimp size (?!) the management gave them a few more. If it would be more cost effective they should just put more smaller cheaper shrimp on the kids plates, children aren't necessarily judging shrimp quality they just wanted more than 3 on their plate and at that price I honestly expected more as well. The little man had the fish and chips (fries) which was cooked great but again very small. Overall it was an excellent meal. The food was delicious. read more

Had been anticipating the opening of this grand place for a while. Went just to get my toes wet and check it out on a Sat. night about 10pm (good thing I had on dark jeans and black Sanuks or I might not have gotten in). Went to Upstairs Bar to have a beer and see what was going on. If you are into the dance clubs with a lot of middle aged women and senior golfers...OH, and a "Holiday Inn" band...this is your place for hot summer nights! Went back Monday for a day look and lunch. Sat at outside bar, very nice and great scenery. About five people at the bar and just my luck, Dumb and Dumber were bar tending. After a few minutes wait, I finally ordered a beer and shrimp burger. Eh, I expected a little more. Bland. Poseidon has GREAT potential but IMHO, is going to have to step it up! Poseidon will make a great tourist trap. Don't think the locals will support. I think next time I will go to Capt. Woody's for a grouper sandwich and an ice cold beer. Feel more at home there. : ) read more

We are Hilton Head locals. It took me awhile to try this place because it was part of the mall renovation, which seemed like the only project on island that didn't maintain the island natural landscape. We did try the downstairs bar a few weeks ago, loved the food enough to go back tonight. We decided to go up and try the Rooftop Bar tonight. Went up, enjoy a drink and the DJ for awhile. On the way out, we were stopped by security over our dress code. My boyfriend had a solid brown long sleeve Margaritaville collared shirt with a Margaritaville tshirt. Apparently the "graphic " tshirt was not allowed and please don't come back unless you are "dressed to impress". Is this a beach community? The manager has since apologized but I think the dress code should be very specific ... Having a security guard decide if we are "dressed to impress" is insulting and completely subjective. read more

Service was satisfactory. Acoustics was awful. Food was less than satisfactory - borderline awful. About choked on the clam chowder; clams were more chewy than beef jerky - actually could not swallow two bites. Asked for broiled fish and fried oysters; can't - all fried or all broiled. I assume that if one gets the broil plate that fries and cole slaw are not allowed; I got vegetables and rice. Coca cola was good. My experience has been that the SERG Group was a sure dining experience, but not this time. read more
