POSEIDON COASTAL CUISINE is a new family favorite restaurant as this year we decidedly looked to expand our list of usual places to eat in the island! Poseidon is part of the SERG Restaurant Group, to whom we've enjoyed dining at Skull Creek Boathouse and One Hot Mama's sister restaurants for years. We arrived about a half hour prior to the restaurant opening and spent that time taking photos for our annual family yearbook across from the restaurant @ Shelter Cove Community Park. It was a beautiful December morning and because of the time of year (Christmas) and the hour, we had no problems social distancing from others. As a matter of fact, we practically had the park and its amazing views to ourselves. Once open, we were quickly seated and the great "I don't know what I want to eat because everything looks so dang good" debate commenced! Poseidon had an amazing seafood menu! Love the service@ great drinks. Ambiance is perfect! Right across from a beautiful park. Also best shopping alongside the beautiful paved clean sidewalks. They always have plenty of parking. Even if you have to wait to be seated plenty to look around outside. Not stuck in closed quarters. Great music venues on Thurs through Sat. Eves. Sunsets are the best there. Then there was tissue paper all over the floor. That really seemed out of character with this beautifully awesome restaurant. I loved the food but I guess I'll use someone else's bathroom!!! My family and I stopped in to Poseidon for lunch while vacationing in Hilton Head. We had noticed this restaurant one night while enjoying the Christmas lights in this new section of Shelter Cove. We are glad we did. The restaurant has multiple levels, but we were seated in the main dining room close to the bar. It has a very bright and nautical theme with comfortable seating. Our waiter, Michael, made our visit even better. He was very attentive throughout our visit and made us feel like regulars. The menu is focused on fresh seafood, but the star at Poseidon is the oyster. We all ordered the half and half lunch combos (or as they call it, the Port and Starboard). The oyster po'boy was prepared perfectly with a spicy remoulade. The oysters were lightly breaded and deep fried, yet we noted the lack of grease. The guy running the fryer at Poseidon knows how to keep his oil at the right temp and not ruin the most precious of all seafood. Respect the oyster, bread the oyster and fry the oyster. Just don't FRY the oyster. My daughter noted that he provided the same white glove treatment with the calamari po'boy. Perfectly fried and not rubbery, as calamari can be at other less nautical establishments. My wife is the landlubber in our crew and ordered a Reuben with her combo. Now even though she was enjoying the margarita that Micheal recommended (free for checking in with Yelp), her ravings about the quality of the Reuben were clearly not alcohol induced. It was a great sandwich. Yes, she loves me enough to let me take a taste. Salads are great, seafood is great, service is amazing. Props to Michael for making our visit perfect. The next time we visit the island, we will stop by to see him and enjoy more of the great seafood Poseidon has to offer. And yes, we will eat more oysters!! read more

Love Poseidon. It's our favorite spot for a quick lunch to binge eat oysters then do some window shopping.

Visited there last week during early dining and had their Perloo jambalaya that was excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive. Suggest making a reservation especially when there is limited seating outdoors when it is cold. read more

I only came here for a drink and oysters so I cannot speak for the rest of the menu but I will say that the local oysters were very good and the drink was on point. The location is great with an outdoor deck. I'm not sure about the dinner however, but it seems to be geared towards more casual dining. read more

Didn't have any foos so I can't speak to that but so fun to listen to music! This restaurant does a decent job with food quality. There is a decent selection on the menu and they seem to really cater towards making sure you get what you like the atmosphere and we were there a night they had live music. Came back again since our meal here last year was very good. They did another great job accommodating us and service was quick and on point. Ordered the prime rib and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Also ordered a side of grilled shrimp and the accompanying mashed potatoes and veggies were great. Wonderful experience. We sat at a high top in the outdoor bar for happy hour. Andria was our server. She was excellent, best on the island during our 3 weeks here. After experiencing the skull creek boathouse and having a horrible experience, I was a little reluctant to try a other restaurant in the serg group of restaurants. We had a much, much better experience at Poseidon! The atmosphere, food, and service was great! Our server (Joanne) was very attentive and kind, and helped to steer us in the right direction. Her service was great and I would highly recommend her. The food from the appetizers to the entrees were all really good and tasty. My son who usually only gets burgers, really enjoyed his firecracker pork pasta bowl. My wife got the shrimp and grits, which was really unique and wasn't the traditional preparation. This one was a tomato based one that she really enjoyes. I got grouper which was really fresh and well prepared. The only suggestion I would make is that at both Poseidon and skull creek, the vegetable side dishes need more fat (oil or butter) and seasoning in order to round out the flavors. The veggies are pretty bland and dry. But overall we were really happy and enjoyed the decor of the restaurant. read more

Amazing food and atmosphere! Our server Kiersten was absolutely horrible though. I'm in the service industry as well and completely understand bad days, but she couldn't of been more rude to me and my family tonight, mind you this is an expensive restaurant where you're almost guaranteed a great tip. You'd think you may want to earn that tip or at least be the least bit nice to your customers. To start off she got upset when I tried to order a beer, while she was putting down waters. Completely understandable but the way she cut me off and said it was rude. Specifically she asked a 17 year old next to me if she'd like a drink, but then assumed I was going to order a Shirley temple? And then a kids smoothie.. which I'm all for not looking of age but she was almost degrading me. She also rolled her eyes at my mother because she simply asked for dessert.. knowing 3 of us could literally see her roll her eyes. Anything she put down on the table or picked up was overly aggressive. I asked what their catch of the day was and she snapped on me. This is a must stop for all of you seafood lovers! Every time we're on HHI, we make sure to spend at least one night here for dinner. Poseidon has a fantastic outdoor seating atmosphere. We made our reservation at 7:30pm to make sure we were there for the gorgeous sunset! One of the best spots on the island to catch that view. We are visiting during the coronavirus pandemic and most of the staff was wearing their masks but the people making the sushi behind the counter were not. They are still using their traditional menus instead of disposable paper ones. While we were ordering, we had a couple questions for our server. He didn't know the menu as well as we would have liked but his bubbly personality made up for it! The food was outstanding, as usual! We had calamari and crab dip for our appetizer... out of this world!!!!delicious!!!! For our meals the sushi was okay and the scallops were amazing (but would not recommend the tuna bowl, not as fresh) the wedge salad was good as well (can't really mess that up). the coastal combo was excellent and the broiled fish was too. However, we did wait a very long time for our dinner. We are a party of 6 tonight and only 4 meals came out.. they forgot the other two. So then we had to wait even longer. We had excellent service and I was impressed with the varied brunch menu; however I would not reorder my meal again. I ordered eggs "over medium" and parts of my eggs were scorched while other parts were runny whites (yuck). The toast was just ok and I didn't care for the potatoes having peppers and onions in them. My meal scored one star, the service and atmosphere five stars. That being said, overall I still have the experience a four star rating. read more

The ambience is quite gloom with the low light setting but not too low to where you won't notice the food infront of you though. The portions are big, and the prices follow them just as well. When we were being seated, we asked the host for a booth, even though there were several available she said that she wanted to seat us at table to enable the server. There were booths right beside the table we were put at. The waitress came and got our drink order right away. She delivered the drinks, then left.
