Rest in Peace Parella's. First indicator as a near empty parking lot on a Friday night. Reservations ? Our friends got there before we did and they were sandwiched into a corner. Mind you the place was near empty except to some people at the bar that we walked by and maybe two tables in the dining room. Our making it three. Our host - waitress and floor show for the night rode in on her broom as we dining area to a gruff - they're over then. Up against a wall and jammed into a corner. We had to move. So we slide over one table took our waters and menus and moved one table over - like I said our floor show took it as a personal affront and you'd think we committed a capital offense. What do you want to drink ? Do you have a drink menu ? Eyes rolling - 4 drinks two glasses of wine and two beers. Didn't seem too complicated. She went to the bad came back and spread the drinks - first put the glass of wine in front of me and then the whoops - I forgot your beer. Ok it happens. So what do you think of the chicken or veal parm ? You can get that anywhere. Can we get some bread please. Harumph. She goes and comes back with bread that's been in the refrigerator. This is an Italian restaurant. That's sacrilege. We go back and forth - what do you think - only thing she would recommend was the veal and peas. Ok - I like veal and peas. What kind of pasta comes with it ? bucatini, papidelle , ziti, spaghetti or whatever other pasta she chipped about. She said - 'I'd go with the bucatini " then ok let's go with the bucatini. She takes our order my wife asks if the kitchen can just make her a dish of pasta olio - mushrooms and olives. Sure we can. My friend is a salad guy and he ordered a house side salad. We're waiting and waiting and the food comes out. She forgot the salad. Of course she did she didn't write anything down when she took our order and then she turned into a magician and poof disappeared.. She had to spend 20 minutes at one of the other two tables having a great old time for herself with the husband and wife that were driving a marked town car. Good for them. The kisses and hugs - take out bags. They go and still no checking in with us. So screw the salad. Screw another round. And basically screw you until and get this - the bill comes - we split everything down the middle have been going out on Friday nights with this same couple,for 20 years.my friend says we all got up charged for the pasta ? What ? Ya for the bucatini $2.50 each - $10 bucks for pasta ? What else would it have come with ? It said pasta ! She said try the bucatini !! So a deeper dive and we got charge $11 for a $9 menus price wine. And now the big finale - Can we ask a question ? Sure - we think the wines off on the charge and there's an up charge for Pasta ?? Her - Listen - I don't work at Olive Garden and I don't bring up any up charges. I don't want to insult you. Wicked nasty and way out of line and she keeps going. She gets back on her broom - goes and comes back it's a corrected bill on just the wine. The pasta is still on the bill. It's freaking pasta what difference does it make that you wouldn't have said something ? Anything. We bring it up again.. I'll just eat it. It will come out of my pay. Do what you want. How dare you talk to us like that. No wonder the place is empty. An East Bay institution driven into the rocks by this awful person. Sleeper hit 10/10 Italian food hidden in an unassuming corner of Warren. It's a crime I haven't heard of this place until now and I almost hesitate to write this review so I can gatekeep all the tables for myself (but I simply must share with you). My table each got a French onion soup to start, which was melty, savory, and a perfect warm hug for taste buds in the crispy fall weather. Additionally, we all split a burratta pistachio beet salad which was tossed in a sweet vinaigrette. I could have eaten ten more of these by myself. The flavors complimented each other beautifully and were server over peppery arugula. My entree was a chicken Marsala served over fresh-made bucatini. The restaurant makes their pastas in-house. The quality of the noodles was just outstanding, they were cooked to al dente perfection. The chicken was soft and flavorful. The Marsala sauce was sweet, rich and so full of umami flavor from the mushrooms. There is fresh bread and herby olive oil served on the house for everyone. The olive oil is GOOD. The ambiance of the dining area is newly renovated, sleek, but maintains a cozy small-house feel. The waitstaff are incredibly kind and accommodating to dietary restrictions or substitutions. One person at our table asked to swap the chicken parm with eggplant parm and the kitchen did it without any issues. In short: This is absolutely worth the drive out to Warren for the best Italian food you haven't heard of. Don't sleep on the house-made pasta, thank me later. read more

Mike had seen this on the TV show restaurant impossible and had wanted to try it so we did. There were only a couple of tables that were filled but the bar had a few people at it and it was very quiet. Had a lovely decor but the acoustics are horrendous. As we were finishing our meal there was a table of six seated at the far end of the restaurant. They were having such a good time but we couldn't even talk to each other because the noise just resonated and was so loud. The food was decent but not some thing I would rave about. I was surprised to see they had put nutmeg in the Bolognese. That is not something that my Italian mother-in-law had ever done. Mike had a steak with a little bit of potato and veg. We also tried the calamari. I have to say the best thing was the dark and stormy drink that I had. The calamari was OK. The entrées came out and were served by the waitress. As she was walking to the table holding the dishes I thought that they were salads but then I realized that we hadn't ordered salads. The dish with the pasta was small and very simple to the point of blah. Mike's dish had a 12 ounce steak and it was also blah. I think a little more effort could be put into a presentation. I went to Perella's for the first time and I was very impressed with the food! First of all, the homemade pasta is delicious and it is made perfectly with a great chew to it. I loved the eggplant rollatini, it was delicious. This dish is one of my favorite things to order and I was very happy with the dish! I would get that again. The sauce on the bolognese and chicken parm dishes were also delicious and I liked the sauces a lot. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who like very good Italian food and homemade pasta!! read more

Eaten here at least 2 dozen times. I'm one of those people who's so into italian food, I'll eat bad italian food. The food is not good. I'm sorry, I don't know how else to say it. I'll go piece by piece on everything I've tried and I've tried most things more than once. Stuffed Shells - actually one of their better items. Pretty good, standard. I think the ricotta stuffing could use some fresh chopped parsley and a little salt/pepper but they are standard stuffed shells. Nothing wrong with them, they wont blow you away. Lasagna - I think it's their best dish. Really good sauce (one of their plusses) and a healthy serving of meat. It's a huge portion very well done. Meatballs - I fancy myself a meatball expert. These are ABYSMAL. ZERO flavor. How about some garlic? Some fried onions? Some fresh chopped parsley? Some parmesan cheese. They have NO flavor. It's meat and breadcrumbs. I don't even think they have salt and pepper in them. HORRIBLE for an italian restaurant to produce meatballs that taste this badly. NOT good. Pasta - usually cooked well. They do a good job. Alfredo sauce - mine was a weird glowing yellow color the last time I got it with terrible flavor. Really bad. read more

This restaurant was redone by Restaurant Impossible. So I came here to check it out. Place looks so much better than it did, more comfortable and a laid back feel. They also changed there menu it is small with not many options. I had the ricotta gnocchi with a brown butter sauce it was good but a little salty my husband had the fish and chips he got a huge portion and the fries were hand-cut. So for 2 meals a soda 1 beer the bill was 35 bucks that's reasonable Overall they did a good job would I go back probably not. read more

After reading an article on "hidden gems" in Motif magazine, I decided to give Perella's a shot. Sifting through less than favorable yelp reviews, I noticed they were all over a year old and thought that they had likely improved. First impression, it's a neighborhood dive. Dim lights, small/crowded bar full of regulars. I sat at what's best described as a high dining table from someone house. Soup first - small cup. Shells for pasta - something different - but portion was tiny. Picatta and pasta. Chicken was absolutely pre cooked and frozen/store bought. But the lemon sauce was tasty. Pasta was ok - but also had a store bought taste. Bread was good. Overall not my scene. Felt out of place and was underwhelmed by the food. read more

Earlier this year I was passing through on a business trip and remembered this restaurant was on the tv show, restaurant impossible so I gave it a try and they lived up to my expectations. The food was great!! I had the pork belly salad, chicken parm, and tiramisu and everything from the seasoning and flavoring to the portion size was amazing!! Also I loved the modern look of the restaurant as it looks clean, new while at the same time retains the warm feeling. Hopefully more people will discover this place as their passing by as I did and give them a try. It's heart warming knowing it's a family owned business and the owner and his son have rekindled their relationship in making it succeed. My only gripe is I hope they also modernize the restrooms and bar as it doesn't match the restaurant vibe. read more

Traveling I stopped at this place and loved every piece of food we ordered. The chicken parm was fantastic ve Rey modern and tasted fresh made..the service was spot on and the drinks were great. I had not been to Perella's for many years but had good memories of their seafood pasta, I believe it was called "Stan Rossi Seafood Spaghetti" you could get it in red or white sauce and it was rife with local seafood with that wonderful clam flavoring coming from fresh quahogs harvested from Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay. My wife had eaten at Perella's earlier this year and enjoyed it. Warren Rhode Island could be called be called Quahog Town USA and local restaurants are famous for serving stuffed quahogs, chowder made with quahogs, clam cakes and little necks both raw and cooked in a variety of appetizers and main dishes. Perella's used to serve all of the above as well as fried smelts, portuguese chourico on pizza which was excellent and that wonderful chourico found it's way into other dishes making them all better. Perella's did all of the above great. They also had fantastic lasagna that was served in a portion the size of a brick and a menu that offered a variety of sandwiches, pizzas, local seafood and Italian Dishes. Anyone who has watched an episode of Restaurant Impossible knows Robert Irvine is an arrogant narcissist, who's cooking skills aren't even marginal. The Restaurant Impossible episode is yet to air but I already know it will feature that pompous man, ordering the menu and spitting out the food calling it all "garbage". Perella's might have needed an infusion of cash and a makeover for the restaurant and to be fair the place does look very nice. Unfortunately the collateral damage inflicted with Irvine's new menu far outweighs the benefit of the makeover. The menu has been slaughtered and replaced with a menu and food that "might" and I will emphasize the might work in a location like a casino or airport with a semi captive and affluent audience but for a family restaurant in Warren RI this menu is an abysmal FAILURE. We were a party of 6, very long time and good friends who always get together for a dinner this time of year. My wife and I driving over from Connecticut imagined a table filled with local favorites, stuffies, smelts, clam cakes and seafood pasta. One look at the very limited menu completely VOID of local fare and we were all very close to leaving but it was a Friday Night, already 6pm and we were there as much for the company of friends as to eat so we ordered. Started out with calamari and the antipasto, nothing Earth shattering good or bad about it, OK. For entrees, 3 of us order the lasagna which at $17 a plate struck me as expensive but would have been ok if the food had been good. We were served portions smaller then the former Perella's lasagna but still adequate however this lasagna was absolutely awful. We started eating it and there was an overwhelming flavor of cinnamon and or nutmeg. I am not trying to be funny, this pasta actually tasted just like "Pumpkin Pie"! We each took a few bites of this bizarre dish to make sure we were not imagining this strange flavor. We weren't, the lasagna really did taste like pumpkin pie! All three of us sent the lasagna back, turned off with the food had zero desire to order anything else. Winning dish was a fish and chips that at $14 for a single 6oz filet was pricey for the portion size but otherwise good. Two of us ordered a baked fish dish, which was ok but at $27 a plate wildly expensive for a family restaurant in Warren RI. We had a couple of beers each and 1 glass of wine, even with the 3 pumpkin pie lasagna's removed from the tab, the bill for 6 of us was over $200 before tip and $240+ out the door with tip. We split the bill evenly between the three couples as friends do when they dine out with friends. My wife and I unfortunately both ordered the pumpkin pie lasagna. Our dinner consisted of a few bites of calamari, a few olives and slices of cold cuts, I had 3 draft beers and my wife 2 bottles of Mich Ultra. Not much of a dinner for $80. Company was great and the atmosphere was nice enough and service adequate, unfortunately the food was over priced and inadequate and in the case of the lasagna inedible. Perella's might have gotten a "makeover" courtesy of Restaurant Impossible but unless there are DRASTIC changes to the menu and food, the makeover will mean nothing because the days of this restaurant are numbered. Sadly the word must already be out. We were the only patrons in the lounge on a Friday Night and there were a total of 6 other customers in the dining room from 6-9PM on a Friday Night during the Christmas Season. I had Lou Jr's bolognese, my husband had the blt pasta, my daughter had the pizza and her boyfriend had the fish and chips. Very bad experience. I ordered Veal Parmesan that was so badly burned, I could not cut it with with a serrated knife. There was only one other party in the whole restaurant. When the waitress finally came over to check on us, I showed her the veal, and she made NO offer to take it back, give something else, or take it off the bill - which she should have done. I had not been here in years and went twice over the last two months and had great evenings with good food and service. Tonight was hell. Slow service and terrible food. We waited 20 minutes to give a drink order. I wanted to walk out then but we were hungry so we stayed. The appetizers took a half hour and the salads another twenty and the food another half hour. My son refused to eat his ravioli because it was pink. Not sure why the meat was pink. My friends swordfish was leather with lemon. It was inedible. My stuffed haddock was passable as food but not good. Not sure whet happened tonight but I will never take a chance there again. Goodbye and good riddance. read more

Disappointed. Friday night, we order, when ordered soup or salad , i ask what the options are for soup and they only have one. What vegetables do you have? Brussel sprouts, only Brussel sprouts, no other vegetables. We had the dinner for two book, they applied the discount (up to $10.00 off,it says) to my son's 3.95 kids meal instead of taking $10 off my or my husband's meal. When i asked about it i got "the computer does it, not me' . So, she took it to have the owner correct it and when she brings it back out she explains that my new total is on the receipt underneath, because to correct the credit card receipt ahe'd have to void the transaction. ...that takes all of 2 seconds and would've been way more professional My baked stuffed shrimp. ...the only flavor out of the soggy stuffing was cinnamon - wtf? I thought the prices here were a little steep considering the atmosphere, etc. Eateries in the area do seem expensive in general, but that doesn't make me want to pay these prices. I ordered the chicken marsala and I was surprised at how good it was. I think I was alone at being impressed by the food. Besides, I think I was surprised because nothing about Perella's suggested that the food would be good. I didn't pick it and I wouldn't have picked it if I had seen what it looked like. The service was good at first, but then our server seemed to disappear. It was awkward because one of our party (the one paying) was less than patient. But, the server really was nowhere to be found. We were glancing around, obviously ready to leave and the message was not being received. ""the best Italian food. . .outside of Providence" by another Yelper only scares me when I consider the other options out there. I would drive to Providence -- it's only about 15 minutes away even during "rush hour" (I know because I drove through it from Warren a few times while I was there). read more

This is probably the best Italian food I've come across outside of Providence in the Greater Fall River/New Bedford Area. The restaurant decor itself is almost similar to a diner, so don't expect an incredible atmosphere. The real draws here are the food and service. This is the kind of place I could return to a few times to explore the menu. The service was great because they were attentive without being overbearing and had great recommendations. As far as dishes, I'd highly recommend the Pasta e Fagioli, the Cioppino and the Lasagna. I didn't have the Lasagna, but my wingman on this trip knows lasagna and gave it two thumbs... discerning eater like myself, so I'll go with it. The Cioppino wasn't a traditional Cioppino (I think almost more of a soup), but it was excellent. A hearty mix of seafood and pasta in a truly flavorful Marinara sauces (marinara sauces are generally boring). When I go back the next time, I plan on trying some veal and saving room for the fried icecream. read more

If you are driving on Metacom Ave and see Perella's........keep driving! We went for a Mother's Day Dinner that we were really looking forward to after working all week. We were unable to get a late reservation anywhere else, which should have been a red flag. I hate to write bad things about a small family restaurant but this was so bad I feel a moral obligation to warn the public. I am also not happy that our Mother's Day dinner was so disappointing and expensive! This was so bad that we didn't eat it. We picked at the least of the bads because we were hungry. Everything was just awful, inedible, burned, overcooked, undercooked, watery, and bland. The one good thing was roasted garlic served with the ok Italian bread. Although the server was very nice, the service was awful as there were only two servers. There were not many people there when we arrived, but it took such a long time to get the food that we wanted to leave but we were hungry so we stayed. The onion soup was good, but there was some kind of cheap rubbery, hard cheese that we couldn't cut into pieces, even though it was hot. The salad was not fresh, boring and soggy, and my husband's clams and linguine was nothing but overcooked pasta with what seemed like tasteless canned clams with water and olive oil. My eggplant was burned, dried up oily breadcrumb patties seemingly without eggplant. We couldn't find the eggplant! Everything had a burned olive oil taste. The clams casino took one hour to get and they were burned olive oil tasting bread crumbs with raw clams. I don't know how that happened, burned on top and raw inside? We were told it took so long because "the kid in the kitchen burned the first order". Some of the shells had no clams. The bacon was obviously cooked a long time ago. My mother in law, who eats anything, has dementia and she didn't eat her ravioli either and was spitting it out. We don't know why. When the server noticed we did not eat, she asked us how it was and we politely told her the God's honest truth. To appease us she offered us one dessert on the house, so we ordered the Chocolate Mouse. It arrived on the table with no utensils and frozen solid, straight from the freezer obviously. My mother in law was stabbing at it with a knife to no avail, and I wanted out of there before someone got impaled. I mentioned the frozen status to the server and she replied.."Well, it's ice cream!" There is more but enough said. read more

Must say, to those who were so harsh in their criticism - must not have ever tried running a restaurant or food service. Am a business owner myself and it is a daily struggle to make ends meet in service industries, People are fickle, critical, impatient...yet, we have to keep smiling and do the best we can every day - even to rude people. My wife waitressed years ago to pay the bills when I got sick - she said she saw the very worst of people. She said they all seemed "entitled" and acted like they were the only people in the restaurant. Just know this: there are a lot of moving parts to every business. I have had a few dishes here and have never been disappointed. It's a very local neighborhood joint but the food is why I go and why I return. Dan the server is as famous as the award wining dishes he created for a pasta cook off in Providence where he beat the fed hill gang. He has been around this area longer than I and my kids have attended school locally grades K thru 12. Lou has a very friendly staff and has been a great member of the community for a long time. The food is great and the setting unpretentious. It is not El Forno but never said it was. And it's priced as dinner not a overly dramatic culinary experience. To quote coach Bill, it is what it is. We had been there years ago and were curious to try again... we were a table of 4, our meals were delicious, 2 of us had the sword fish special, 2 of us had the rigatoni! Everything had so much flavor, and portions were spot on! Drinks were great too, they make a fantastic old fashion!
