Came for a Friday night dinner, the ambiance was real nice. We arrived a bit early so seating wasn't an issue. Ordered some appetizers baked clams, and clams on the half shell. They were a bit tiny, something they should work on. The tomahawk was real good, temperature was perfect and flavor and sides was really good.

One of the specials. I think beef brisket risotto. Could not finish it. Beef was not tender, and risotto had metallic taste.

Came as a group of 6. We made reservations beforehand just in case walk-in wasn't available. Staff was friendly and our waiter was very thorough with explaining the specials of the night. They switched out our plates and utensils after every course which was nice. Standout dish was the Chilean Sea Bass risotto. Everybody at the table loved it. It's not on the regular menu and thankfully they had 1 sea bass left and I order it right away. We also ordered the 50oz porterhouse steak which came with 2 sides but the steak wasn't as tender as I would like it to be and it was barely seasoned. I was quite disappointed. Unfortunately that dish was $175! Another disappointment was one of their specials, I think a beef brisket risotto. The beef was a huge chunk of meat, but it was not tender and it was so hard to even cut. The risotto also had a strange metallic flavor to it. We ended up not eating it. The staff was nice enough to remove the dish from our bill so we really appreciated that. Caesar salad and fried calamari were good and all the other sides like the truffle mac and cheese and creamed spinach were good as well. Overall, nice ambiance and attentive staff, but some dishes are hit or miss. I would definitely come back just for the Chilean Sea Bass risotto!

I visited Positano for dinner for the first time and had a wonderful experience. Inside is a bit too dark so I chose the outdoor seating area. It felt cozy with warm heaters above my head. We started with complimentary bread and cheesebread, followed by delicious calamari that was fresh, crispy, and flavorful as appetizers. For my main course, I tried the Caserecce Alla Sicilar pasta, which had a unique herbal taste that I enjoyed. The Pork Chop Doublecut was juicy, although a bit too salty. To end my meal, I ordered the bread pudding dessert, which was surprisingly big and delicious with a scoop of ice cream on top. I highly recommend Positano. I enjoyed their service because the waiter is very friendly and even asked how we like the food.

Starting with a basket of crusty bread, focaccia and delicious eggplant camponatta, we thoroughly enjoyed an outstanding dinner. This evening we dined on expertly prepared fluke crudo and a pear & gorgonzola salad as starters. These were followed by delicious spaghetti with caccio e pepe with salmon and shaved truffles as well as an outstanding miso-glazed seabass on a bed of perfectly prepared butternut squash risotto. The risotto grains were firm, not pasty as all too often happens at lesser restaurants in a well-balanced, peppery cheese sauce. With attentive, helpful service from Efteris, this evening's dinner was probably the best meal we've enjoyed at Positano among the many years we've been eating well at Positano. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Came here to have a 16th birthday dinner with my daughter and some family. Upon walking in, was asked if we had a reservation, which we did not but were still seated immediately. It was the evening the restaurant was dimly lit, very intimate and perfect for a date night. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. My daughters request was calamari and oysters, which she enjoyed. I had the porcini ravioli, her friend had the lobster ravioli, her brother ordered the chicken parm with linguini, my partner had a Caesar salad and the birthday girl had the black linguine pescatori. Everyone enjoyed their meal, all very flavorful hot and fresh. I would come back for another meal.

The service here was top tier, even while it was completely packed to the brim. They definitely make some great espresso martinis and the establishment is comfortable giving Italian vibes.

5 stars today!! I haven't been here for a while as my last experience was not that great. I use to come here often and have been spending more time in Williamsburg and areas outside of BayRidge. My neighbor who moved to Singapore 10 years ago comes back to visit every year so we decided to give them another chance. Positano has stepped up there game! Great service from the valet, to the hostess, bus boy and waiter. Not rushed, great food, very courteous staff, very clean, nice crowd. Great upscale decor, a place to be scene, cozy place to go whether you sit indoors or outside. The bathrooms are spotless and fresh smelling. Amazing choice of steaks if you are a red meat fan. We had the mango salad and special appetizer. For mains I had the ahi tuna which was awesome. It had a chili sauce, fresh steamed spinach and potato croquette's. My friend had a pasta special which was great as well. We skipped desert as we were on a time constraint to visit a cigar bar in the neighborhood. After today I would definitely go back soon and recommend them. Was a really nice experience.

I made a reservation on Open Table. I was seated right away. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and fried calamari to start. I had the margarita on the rocks with salt and a chicken dish. The place is clean including the bathrooms. When I arrived I sat down at a nice clean table with a television screen right in front of me. The wait staff came over and took my drink order and water order. My waitress was very attentive and I got to see the Blue Room. I was wondering if there was another room behind the brick wall which there was. I never knew existed. Let's get back to food and drinks. The margarita was served in a tall glass with thin salt around the rim. I feel that the thicker flakes around the rim would have made the drink pop. The appetizer were so good. The calamari was fresh and not too oily. The shrimp was fresh and the nicely sized. The chicken was perfectly cooked served with veggies and a potato. I had a wonderful double espresso. I found it to be perfect. I been noticing that espresso lately has been bitter and nasty. The espresso here was not like that. It was smooth and I had sambooka inside. The price was right and everything was great. I was very impressed and will definitely continue to come here.

Nice Italian restaurant , good menu , nice service. Everything we had was delicious and made with good ingredients . Our waiter was great my only issue is I think when they tell you specials they should state the price of the dish! A bit shocking when you get the bill and the special pastas were $48 each and the fish $59. That was a bit overboard, but like I stated food was great.

I've never been this far into Bay ridge before. Positano was a cozy Italian restaurant with friendly service and an extensive dinner menu. We came for a work holiday dinner so without a doubt, we over ordered many delicious apps including the expertly fried calamari, the meatballs, salads and crab cakes. I was so full from the apps that I had to change my initial entree order from the steak to a pasta dish. The seafood pasta was very good. If it weren't so far into Brooklyn, I would definitely come back again irrespective of a planned work event.

Came here on a recommendation from a local. This restaurant did not disappoint from the service to the food. I loved the free bread basket with the caponata. I ordered the lobster bisque and eggplant parm appetizer. I really enjoyed the eggplant parm. It was such a comforting meal. The sauce was fresh and the eggplant perfectly fried and not soggy. This place is quite large with a few different rooms. I sat at the bar which has limited seating. The bartender who served me was great. Will certainly come back with others to try more menu items.

Positano Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Positano Restaurant

    Is it quiet?

Definitely not quiet except maybe at lunch time

Is this place associated with Pasitano Coast in Pa?

No. It is even spelled differently.

Do you allow dogs on the patio or any of your outdoor tables?

I have no idea. Call and ask. I'm sure if you're sitting outside the dog can stay by your feet.

I would love to go here, but my partner is vegetarian and I called and they said they have no vegetarian dishes. Do they have vegetarian options, its 2022!?

Yes we have vegetarian options. Sorry for the confusion but indeed we do offer many items which are vegetarian friendly. We can also accommodate you outside of the regular menu if necessary.

Do you need to be vaccinated to eat here?

    No.

Are they open for outdoor dining?

Yes! Currently only outdoor dining is permitted in New York City. You can call and make a reservation.

Does anyone know what that tomato dipping "salsa" is they serve with bread before your meal? It is so delicious and we don't live there anymore. I would love to be able to find a similar recipe

It is an Italian eggplant caponata

Is there music on Saturday nights while you're eating dinner, because that is what we like. But I read on one these reviews that its only blasting loud techno, please tell me thats not true?

They have music but it's more of a mix of pop/rock and anything in between. It's not loud but the ambiance is without a doubt noisy and upbeat. No live music, no dj, just music playing possibly from Spotify, or a digital jukebox

Is there a restroom on the main level?

Yes, this restaurant has a bathroom on the main floor. This is a great restaurant in both food and service

    Is there valet parking?

Yes. Every day for lunch and dinner.

    Is it open on 12/25/19?

I would think what because it is an Italian Restaurant they would be closed. The best thing to do is to call and ask.

Is this restaurant open and is it an Italian restaurant?

    Yes, it is Italian.

This was high up on my search, and with reviews like what they have, we decided to give them a shot. Its very easy to get to with a decent amount of street parking. Seems a bit out of place next to a deli on a residential block. You can kind of miss it if youre not paying attention. We were a party of 6 and had a 5 PM reservation. You have to pass through this dark curtain and go to the middle of the bar where the host will greet you and bring you to your seats. We were seated promptly with no wait. The restaurant is VERY small. So much so that at our table, all I had to do was reach my hand out and I would have been touching the kitchen counter. It does get a little crammed/crowded, but not in an annoying or unbearable kind of way. The vibe is actually really cozy and rustic. Very dim lighting so either whip out the flashlight on your phone or hold up one of the real candles they have on the table to read the menu. The food menu is straightforward and simple. They have an extensive wine list. I love how on the food menu, next to each dish, they tell you the region of Italy that dish gets its roots from. They have lovely dinnerware here. They brought out a foccacia bread for the table with a tomato dipping sauce. Absolutely delicious foccacia. The sauce was a tad too salty for me. I started off with the mocktail Luisa. It was passion fruit, lemon, agave, ginger beer, and mint. It was $10 and very fresh and mouthwatering! For my appetizer I had the Calamari alla griglia. Grilled calamari with guacamole and carasau bread. I've never had grilled calamari before. Only either marinara or fried. I also thought pairing it with guacamole was an interesting twist. I was so pleasantly surprised by this dish. The calamari were perfectly fork tender grilled. The guacamole went well with it. The carasau bread was more like a tortilla chip. They give you a decent amount for $24.95. That app slid down my throat effortlessly! For my entree I had the Maccheroncini alla Norma. Maccheroni with eggplant in tomato sauce with ricotta cheese. The pasta was so fresh and perfectly cooked. The sauce reminded me so much of my Calabrian grandmother's. The ricotta made it rich and creamy. Filling as well. So much so that, even though it wasn't a huge portion, I had to take home half of it because I was verging on being stuffed! My mother had the Cotoletta alla milanese. Keep in mind that if you get this chicken cutlet dish that it serves about four people, even though its for 1! HUGE portion. About 4 enormous cutlets that gave my mom 3 days of leftovers! All of the desserts were $12.95. A nice selection to choose from, but I had the classic Tiramisu. They make it here tableside. He made it with such care. Loved watching him put it all together. Let me tell you, that was the BEST Tiramisu that I've EVER had! Wow, just amazing. Very balanced, quality ingredients. The marscapone was so decadent, creamy and fresh. I could have easily taken down 2 of them! I tried some of my mother's chocolate cake. Delicious and decadent. Service throughout our dinner was above and beyond. Attentive, kind, concise and our waiter was such a cutie! Smooth sailing throughout the entire meal. We barely had to wait for anything. Amazing restaurant and staff. Prices are just fine and the quality goes way beyond. Can't wait to come back. Highly impressed and recommend!

This place does get busy so recommend making reservations if you can. They have a pretty nice wine list to choose from along with different cocktail options. From the start, the food was delicious starting with the house bread which was warm and soft but still felt light. For dinner, I ordered the special for the night which was cacio pepe ravioli, while my husband got the tagliatelle verdi con ragu. Both of our pasta dishes felt extremely fresh. The ravioli was unlike anything Ive had before, with flavorful cacio pepe filling and a butter sauce with pancetta complementing the flavor. The tagliatelle was also delicious in a more ragu centric way, still offering a good balance of flavor. Both dishes were pretty filling and so neither of us could finish it. We ended the night with cannolis, which was a pleasant surprise to find 3 came in 1 order. One side is pistachio while the other had a coco dusting. These were again delicious but pretty filling and sweet so we could only eat one. The staff here was also very friendly and service was quick with food coming out much faster than I expected. Overall I would come back and try even more on their menu.

Even the bar was totally full of people ordering drinks before they were seated. The food is classic, New York Italian. Everything is a very well done version. The veal Parm was one of the best I've ever had. The caramel cake at the end was truly beyond. I can't recommend this experience enough. We ate for three hours had amazing cocktails, great bottles of wine and a really delicious meal. Looking around, you could tell the diners were locals enjoying a beloved neighborhood restaurant. It's such a special restaurant that serves real New Yorkers.

The interior looks like a classic Italian restaurant and service is very formal. It was quite busy for a weekday night. There's valet parking so you don't have to stress about finding street parking nearby. We ordered fried calamari, baked clams, baked vodka penne, and the Fisherman's Platter. We were served bread and some antipasto to start. The calamari was a classic and I loved the sauce -- it had a good spicy kick to it. The baked clams were okay. The Fisherman's Platter is a must and good value with its generous portion of seafood. It can definitely be shared amongst two people. The baked vodka penne was also good but portion was on the smaller side. I would say Michael's is a must try at least once.

It was our first time trying the lobster dish - delicious and fresh. The baked dish tasted too burnt.

Reservations are harder to come by so I had to settle with an early 4 pm meal. I was seated…read moreimmediately as they opened. Service was attentive and friendly, and I did not feel rushed at any point. I wasn't too hungry so I shared their popular focaccia bread with green butter and sheep's milk agnolotti. Focaccia 5/5: best focaccia I ever had, it came hot and fresh out of the oven. Crispy on the outside but so soft inside, topped with a delicious parm. The green herb butter was so smooth. I loved this dish and would come back just for it Sheep's milk 4/5: they're like ravioli stuffed with smooth, melt in your mouth cheese... the sauce was light and sweet from the honey. It was so unique and delicious (technically a 5/5 but I personally am not a fan of sweet pasta and would likely try something else next time) I hope to come back another time for that bread and to try one of their other pastas

The service was great, and our server gave us great recommendations. Inside has lots of seating and it is moody, more of a date-night vibe. We ordered three pastas and two appetizers. All were overall great! They are known for their focaccia, and it was good! Definitely one of the focaccia I have had, most end up being too oily but this was perfect. We also got the mussels, and they were good as well, the butter sauce it is dosed in is not too heavy and pairs well with the bread. The Mafaldini was the biggest portion size, and it was also good, but we preferred the other pastas more. The best pasta was definitely the agnolotti!! Though the portion size was smaller, every bite was so delicious. Overall we had a great time here!

Cuisine: 7 Service: 8…read moreDecor: 8 Value: 7 Overall: 7 I wonder how many 100 year old restaurants are still left in NYC. It can't be easy to stay true to who you are in this ever changing world. With today's social media heavy and influencer dominated marketing, this restaurant sits on a quiet street in Brooklyn just going about its business. Known as an Italian red sauce shop that served all walks of life, including possibly the mafia, this place has seen it all. If only the walls can talk, I could imagine all the stories it holds. Our friendly waiter has been there for 20+ years and shared some of his experiences and memories. It was a nice bonus to our meal for four. For appetizers, we had some Clams Oreganata (8/10), Fried Calamari (8/10), and Roasted Peppers w/ Anchovies (8/10). I would say that these three starters were the highlights of the meal. The entrees were not bad, just not as outstanding as their appetizer counterparts. My favorite of the bunch was the Eggplant Parmigiana (8/10), which was delicious and well made. The other three items, Pork Chop alla Bamonte's (6/10), Ravioli w/ Meat Sauce (7/10), and Rigatoni w/ Sausage & Broccoli Rabe (7/10), were all decent, but nothing special. By the end of the meal, four of us all agreed that it was a fun experience. With all the great options for Italian cuisine in NYC, it's not somewhere that stands out enough for regular visits. However, I would stop by if I was in the neighborhood.
