This is definitely a place that I would probably only go back to if coworkers really wanted to, as nothing really stood out to me. I came with a group of coworkers on a Friday, where it was fairly empty. The waiter was very friendly and introduced us to the lunch special, which was a crab bisque, ahi tuna entree, and a dessert for only around $24(?) I opted to try it, since the menu was quite vast and I didn't know what to get. The crab bisque was good, but was also very lukewarm (a little colder than I was expecting). The ahi tuna dish was decent, but also felt very random to me. I think I was expecting it to be lighter/fresher, and not in a mushroom sauce with a side of mushy rice/sweet potato mash. Regardless, I still finished the tuna! As for the dessert, I got the German chocolate cake to go, but when I tried it at home, I honestly could not take more than one bite because it was too sweet, and I just wasn't a fan of the cake itself (but maybe I am a bit of a cake snob since I like to bake my own cakes) read more

The Three Cheese Ravioli is so amazing!! Best ravioli I've ever had and it surprisingly came with a large portion. The ambiance of the restaurant is a bit dark and a little outdated, but seeing how it's located in the underground tunnels, I think that's to be expected. Post Oak Grill, in the tunnels. Great ambiance, looks upscale, prices are upscale for lunch.... Food is not good. I got chicken fried chicken.... Treebeards does it better for less. Here it's pre-breaded the deep fried flat chicken "breast" with a white gravy stain that was dried up by the time I got it, flavorless spoon full of mashed potatoes, a few pieces of broccoli, a single thick shaving of a carrot, and a couple of green beans... thoughtfully placed on a white plate. They have complimentary biscuits... which are canned biscuits with some chopped jalapeño and chunks of ham in them. I was maybe the 6-7th person in at lunch... my food came out visibly lamp tanned and just above warm... the plate was so hot I couldn't touch it. I've gotten coke, tea, and now Diet Coke in my refills. There is literally nothing other than the walls and tables that is redeeming about this place. Ambiance is top notch at this established downtown tunnels restaurant under the CenterPoint building, and their service definitely equals the feel of the place, but the food is mediocre at best! Took the wife today for lunch and ordered the flounder which literally came with ONE shrimp and about half a cup of rice that had almost no flavor. I asked the waiter what else came with the place, and he said it was served with vegetables. Now, I know carrots, potatoes & onions fall in that specific category, but to literally only add ONE of each? come on guys. I ordered the "angus" beef burger with fries and I've had better beyond burgers from Sam's Club. Don't even get me started on the SIX fries that came on the plate. Only reason this place gets two stars from me is because of their awesome biscuits they serve before handing you their $20 plate of nothingness. For $43, I could have gone to Subway and ordered four, foot-long subs and had lunch for tomorrow as well! read more

I ate here with a few of my coworkers. They said the food was good and wanted to take me there. When looking at the menu, there are a lot of options. It's a little pricey but not too bad. I picked the Mac and cheese with chicken and shrimp and I liked it! It came right out of the oven and was really hot. Very cheese, but almost too cheesy. I did like having the vegetables in it and the seasoning on the shrimp was delicious. The restaurant was really busy because we went at lunch time. This is a very busy location, if you don't make reservations, you may not be able to get a seat. There wasn't much staff interaction or greeting from those who served us. Located in the tunnels under 1111 Louisiana this place specializes in salads, a few comfort foods that do not scream foul at it's sister location in the Galleria. You will not find many of the menu items here that you have had in the Galleria because here is more geared to the fast paced setting of the downtown business clientele. The hours here are 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. You will get good service here from the opening time to about noon or when everybody decides to all come in at the same time so after 12:30 pm your on your own, don't say I didn't warn you. There is an auxillery stand in front of this establishment where you can get a quick sandwich, cookie, drink or soup but do not expect to sit inside the restaurant and get the soup that is offered at the outside stand unless it is the same as the inside. Don't ask me why I just know. All in all this is your cut above place to go if you are tired of the fast food subways, McDonald's or whatever but do not expect to get any alcohol here. Average price per person I would say would be about $15 with a drink hovering with the tax and tip. Your choice of beverages are Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Assorted Hot Tea, regular tea, organic bottled tea and coffee. (This review is for the Post Oak Express) Tasty, cheap and fast. Located just outside the downtown Post Oak Grill restaurant with a limited menu. Although the website says otherwise, there are at least a couple of Post Oak Grill Express locations downtown. I have a coworker who swears by the POG-Ex fish tacos. I gave them a try and was impressed. Less than $9 and includes a drink and a cookie. The tacos were very good. A couple of guys with me had chicken sandwiches and didn't think too much of them, especially when they paid more than $10 each. POG-Ex had turkey chili and chicken tortilla soup that looked good. In my opinion, this probably the best restaurant in the official tunnel system. There are options - sit down, full service restaurant with wine, delivery/takeout and the little to go stand. The food is overall good, consistent and varies. My favorite are the soups and entree salads. They usually have a tasty soup of the day like some sort of bisque with seafood and you get a side of their delicious bread. That's usually enough for a light lunch. The salads are nice and big with different proteins. The only thing Ive had that I didn't enjoy was the fish taco platter. It was too deep fried and the sauce tasted a little weird. People seem to order it often so maybe it's just me! Anyway a good choice if you're downtown and want something a little fancier than most of the other choices. I had lunch here recently with a friend and I actually quite liked it. This place is located in the tunnels downtown and is a quick place to get lunch. We arrived and were seated promptly and our orders taken. They give you complimentary bread and butter which was quite good actually. I got the flounder filet and my friend got the pasta. The pasta was just okay. Nothing special. The flounder was really good. Really enjoyed it. The fried shrimp that comes with the food tastes weird. I wonder how they get it to be that shape? It's one of the few truly sit down with service places in this part of downtown's tunnels. The food is decent to good, but the service is usually lacking. I've had several of the salads and they have been good. The fish dishes I have had here seem to rely too much on butter and salt to give it flavor. I just feel that for what you pay, the food should be a little better and the service should be much better. The ambiance is kind of lacking and is a little dated. Their "patio" is out in the tunnel area so it is a good people watching spot as the scurry to and fro through the tunnels. One big plus is the 7% cashback if you link your credit card that you pay with to the new Yelp cashback program. You likely will spend at least $18 per person if not much more, so that is at least $1.26 back per person. Will I be back? 3.5 stars up. Rounding up to 4 stars. This was a delivered meal for an all day meeting. We had a full page to choose from sandwiches or lunch salads. I chose the Ahi tuna lunch salad. The delivery girl was super friendly and happy. Upon opening my salad I also found some other goodies. Everything was packed well. No lopsided meal! The salad dressing which if I recall correctly was like a light balsamic mix. The greens and accent veggies were uber fresh and consisted of a real good variety. Not your normal wild herbs or romaine. The only negative was that my ahi tuna was sliced quite thick and cooked medium which it could have cooked more in the container. The ahi tuna had real good flavor despite having the above mentioned issues. I would assume also the restaurant was playing it safe on a delivery. Would I order it again? Heck yeah! I would specify thin cut and rare though. I also received homemade crusty looking bread and butter which I didn't eat. There were a cluster of red grapes and a decent peanut butter cookie also. I was actually impressed overall. So many times when meals are delivered or picked up to go I have found disappointing smaller versions. Well priced. Oh yes, there is a second aspect to a great dining...That is ''service'' which this restaurant does not have. Service was HORRIBLE !! Never again. Almost too many negatives to detail.... On several occasions, we had to wave to get any attention -- drink refills, long, long wait for food, other minor requests and getting a bill. Yes it was a favorite of mine but after I got a receipt on my steak salad and the manager took forever to apologize for such, didn't even bother to look at me in the eyes and without a genuine apology, well let's just say I WILL NOT be attending there ever again! Working downtown and eating the same things in walking distance can get a little boring, I took a chance and explored the tunnels a little more today and stumbled across this place. Great for business lunches, and also a step up from your typical eatery in the tunnels. White table linens and complimentary passion tea on the table not so bad I must say! I had the chicken fried chicken w/ peppercorn gravy and fresh veggies which consisted of green beans and carrots. Really good, the chicken was thin and was not all covered in gravy which I like. It was topped in mushrooms which I'm not a fan of, but it actually wasn't so bad. The chicken was well flavored, could've used a bit more gravy but overall it was pretty good. This place is GREAT! I don't usually like to go to higher priced ($15-20 entree) restaurants, but this one is worth it. VERY good food, everything is fresh and well prepared. I've been with clients and it worked well. I have never had an issue with noise, though it does get crowded, so make a reservation or get there early. I've had many dishes and they have all been amazing. The tuna salad (fresh grilled tuna) is recommended - if you like tuna (they only sear the outside). As a downtown worker, this place has been on my list to try. I finally did. I did not have a good experience. Let me list it out: While we were seated promptly, it took a very long time to get our food. It's not conducive for someone trying to keep lunch to an hour. It was SO LOUD! They have crammed too many tables in there so people are too close together. I could not hear my dining companion. Instead of a relaxing lunch, it stressed me out. I just wanted to get the heck out. For my meal, I ordered my beef well done. It came out medium rare! It did not taste good and I left most of it uneaten. The potatoes they served would have been good had they been properly prepared but they were under cooked and hard. Not good at all. I got the impression that they don't have the right size kitchen and staff to keep up with the tables. The bun on my burger and my friend's chicken sandwich were soggy and disproportionate to the meat. Prices were very high considering the poor preparation. Will I be back? No. I can find better quality food elsewhere. I hate giving a review with so many negatives so let me leave with one positive. The waiter was friendly and was obviously working hard. read more

My work group had lunch here to celebrate a milestone. The hostess did not provide a greeting or a smile. The waiter did not smile either. I had to ask for lemons for my water 3 times. The food was good. I had the linguini with mushrooms and enjoyed it. One member of our party had the southwest pasta. There was no guacamole or sour cream as the menu suggested. This is a more upscale restaurant in the basement of the tunnel system under the Centerpoint Enrgy building, a rarity in the fast food environment found in most areas of the Houston tunnel system. The food is well-prepared and fairly quick considering the full preperation that's done. They often have tasty twists on standard items, like the Chicken Club sandwich that uses a sliced breast and not formed cold-cut meats. They have excellent salads for those so inclined, and their entrees are great. There's a grilled salmon that's excellent. The decor and ambiance is attractive and contemporary. The service is prompt and attentive. The proof of good food and service is they fill fast, so get there early. The downside? This place is DEAFENING! I mean, raise-your-voice-to-be-heard-by-the-person-next-to-you, particularly if you are in the ground-level area in front of the bar. The raised booth and back rooms, still loud but not as deafening. The 'patio' seats outside in the tunnel area don't suffer from the interior noise as much, but then you have the tunnel noise to deal with, not to mention a stream of passer-bys staring at you. I actually had a complete stranger once stop and interrupt to ask me about what I was eating, incredibly rude!! I suggested that if he were short on time I could insert a portion of my entre so that he culd take it with him - -jerk left in a huff. I have taken a full star off the rating because of the noise flaw. So if you are downtown, want a more relaxed high quality lunch, and can get there early enough to get a booth, I highly recommend Post Oak Grill. I worked Downtown while I was in exile from Katrina 5 years ago, and of the many restaurants we tried in the tunnel system, this was by far my favorite. I still stop by here when I'm in the area for a business meeting and get my favorite, the Beefsteak Tomato Salad. The menu hasn't changed in 5 years. Literally. While that's good in a way, this (like the sister restaurant near the Galleria) needs some serious updating. It does feel like the quality has gone down a bit in terms of preparation and ingredients. 5 years ago, it would have gotten 4-stars from me while now I can barely justify 3. It would certainly be an improvement if it weren't in the basement/"tunnel system". While convenient during the summer heat and rainy Houston afternoons, the system is actually fairly disturbing. The morlocks, as I affectionately call the subterranean dwellers, seem to fear the sun and stay in their little underground warren. It's just wrong. I can imagine given a few centuries and the process of natural selection, downtown will be a dangerous place for visitors as the workers come out of the tunnel system only at night to drag us down below to consume our flesh. By then, Post Oak Grill may have a new menu. read more

I've had it before from this same location and it was great. However on this visit it was very bland, including the sauce. The mashed potatoes were great as well as the veggies. I tried adding salt to the sauce, but still no good for my steak. I recommend more seasoning and perhaps a little spice since it is called Skirts of Fire. read more

The salad dressing on the side was really good. Ahi Tuna salad had a ginger caper vinaigrette which was delightful. The restaurant was hopping and energetic. This place is an ok spot to stop by for a quick business lunch. During lunch hours though, be warned that service is a bit slow, and the food quality suffers just a bit because of that. Also, it's a bit hidden, but head downstairs into the tunnel and you will find it. Came here with a co worker for a quick business lunch, and got the fried seafood platter while he got the crab cake sandwhich. First off, they brought some bread to the table, which seemed either underbaked or just crushed too much while someone was slicing it. No good. Then came some cheddar biscuits, which were delicious. The actual entree was just ok, a pile of well fried seafood, including soft shelled crab, shrimp, and some fish. My co worker's crab cake sandwhich looked solid as well. I was torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars, but I had to say it was just A-OK. It's a nice place in the tunnels (sit down, great service, nice decor). We were seated right away and given a basket of assorted breads. I have to say I wasn't impressed with any of the breads. I loved the huge selection of salads, however, and I ultimately decided on the blackened shrimp salad with the tequila lime vinaigrette. It was good - the shrimp were a bit too salty and the dressing was very oily and didn't taste like tequila or lime at all. However it was fresh and filling, and like I said the service was great so I really can't complain. They have a huge menu, so if you're looking for a lot of different types of food, this is a great place to go. read more

Just went for my birthday. We got the Houston restaurant week menu. I don't know if that's why we received the service we did. But we were rushed to order and never were asked for our drinks. Mind you we were a party of 10. The only thing that was good was our main course. I am so dissatisfied with everything. Altogether, this place has good food, but slow service and a mediocre ambience. If you have time for a leisurely lunch with someone who works in or adjacent to the CenterPoint skyscraper, consider Post Oak Grill in the tunnel. I typically come here with clients who work nearby. Food: The food is somewhere between a Chili's or Applebee's and a steakhouse. The prices are closer to the former (which is nice if you're actually paying, as opposed to expensing your business lunch ;) A lot of people seem to go for their salads. Slow service: You can't get a reservation during the peak lunch hour unless it's at 11:30 or before, so plan to wait if you'll get there later. And I've never been able to get in and out in less than an hour, which may be a consideration. Ambience: Granted, there's a limited amount that can be done to enhance the ambience of a restaurant that is in a building's basement. But the overall feel is dated, a bit cramped, and slightly yellow. It's not terrible, just don't expect to be as comfortable as you might be in a restaurant with windows and more recent renovations. read more

I went here for a business lunch, it's a good place to meet and expense their pricey food, but it is way too loud and the servers seem like they are busy even though they are extremely slow. All that said, I really did enjoy the complimentary biscuts and my Ahi Tuna salad was very good. Someone in our group ordered the chicken enchiladas he complained that they were too spicy and that the menu didn't give him any indication to their spiciness, but he's from NY and they gave him a dessert on the house. read more

This place is a sit down escape from the fast food world of the Houston Tunnel System. Table cloths and real napkins waiter service, and nice decor. I went here on the company dime for a celebratory lunch, and I am glad I wasn't paying. This place ain't cheap, especially for lunch. The food is, however, quite tasty. I had the grilled flounder with shrimp tails and a spicy cream sauce and I was not disappointed. The Fresh vegetables were very fresh and tasted great with good texture. What knocks this place down for me, though, is the noise. Yes, I know, it is the tunnel, and it is noisy, but the atmosphere was so nice that the noise really took me by surprise and was constantly pulling me away from my meal. It gets three stars because it's often packed and rushed during its lunch hours (caters to the business clientele, obvy) but that concept turns you off if you have a lot of time to spare and want to enjoy your company. A quick business lunch was in order with a colleague, and given that both of our buildings are connected to the Houston Tunnels, we decided on Post Oak Grill Downtown. Pro-tip: MAP OUT your route before you leave your office - there is no WiFi or 4G in the tunnels and they can be very windy and quite confusing. With a bit of luck, I only took one wrong turn and arrived shortly after noon - my colleague beat me there and had already secured a table for 2 in the cafe seating portion. Seated & greeted, we were immediately served water and drinks were ordered. This being my first time to the POGD, I took a quick survey of the surroundings - clean lines, dark wood, very appropriate for a business lunch. Obviously, the rest of Downtown agrees - they were doing a very brisk business on a Wednesday. The menu was extensive, including a 2 course prix-fixe lunch, and I was happy to see they offered a variety of entree salads. Chopped California Cobb with Grilled Chicken - why yes, I think so. My colleague ordered a variation on the grilled chicken - 86 the cheese and add a crab cake. This elicited a brief puzzled look from our server, "Both chicken AND crab cake?" But soon they resolved the issue and orders were submitted. I was impressed with the attentive staff during such a busy lunch hour: my iced tea was never empty, my silverware proferred at the ideal moment, our salads taking seemingly little time after ordering. Clearly, they have capitalized on the efficiency of the business lunch. As my salad arrived I happily notices the bunch of grapes settled in alongside the generous grilled chicken, boiled eggs and other accouterments of a Cobb salad. Perhaps this is the "California" aspect? Either way, I love grapes in a salad and the whole entree arrived as advertised: chopped thoroughly. NOTE for Restaurateurs: We ladies who lunch do not like to have to chop up the overly large lettuce offerings you seem determined to utilize. PLEASE, for the love, realize that during a business lunch you must take small bites to engage in conversation, making a chopped salad ideal. My own personal soapbox aside, the Chopped California Cobb at POGD was quite good - if maybe a tad bit overly dressed. Next time, I may opt for dressing on the side, but really I should know better. The fruits and vegetables were fresh, crisp and expertly chopped into bite-sized pieces, making this a delicious and appropriate entree for a lunch dominated by political conversation. Reaching the end, our plates were cleared, more iced tea poured and we were allowed to sit, digest and enjoy a bit more Machiavellian scheming.
